Rod's Steak and Seafood Grille Ratings and Reviews
Stylish for a business meeting
What a great place for a business meeting! Reserving a spot in the dining car made for a very effective setting to impress as well as providing a suitable atmosphere for getting work done as well. Highly recommend this spot.

Another Great Dinnet
Had to have dinner to interview a candidate for a position in our organization. Asked for a quiet table and got one. As usual the food was excellent. I partularly enjoyed the sliced sirloin dinner. It was cooked rare as I requested and was very tender.
At a moment's notice
Rod's is always on point! They were able to accommodate a last minute request for my husband's birthday.
Great Surf and turf
Perfectly cooked filet with shrimp! Enjoyed the asparagus and crab bisque! Cool atmosphere, quiet dining. Bar area was very interesting and looked to be a fun hangout. I will try again!
It had been many years since my wife and I went to Rods for their Sunday brunch. I remember it being very good with a variety of choice dishes. We went there last Sunday, April 9th and were disappointed with the food. It seams the number of dishes has decreased, and many of the hot dishes were cold or just warm. With the price that they charge, they do not even offer a complimentary brunch drink like a mimosa. While we like going to Rods for dinner, we will not go back for their Sunday brunch, opting instead to go to other restaurants that are less expensive.

Best part of a star in Morristown
Our stay at The Madison Hotel was a midway stopover on a trip up to New England. Although the hotel was clean and our room was nicely sized and comfortable, it was no different from any other mid-priced hotel we have stayed at previously. The marked difference was the dining experience at Rod's Steak and Seafood Grille. The food was exceptional and service was extraordinary. My husband ordered an Irish Coffee which was prepared before us with the whiskey flambe and the cream poured slowly into the coffee to rise to a frothy texture making for a very delicious drink and a pleasant surprise performance. I would highly recommend a dinner at Rod's for anyone traveling in the area who appreciates fine dining and great service.

Our group meets here every six months for a ladies brunch and we always have a wonderful time. The assortment of food is very nice and I love the cold seafood and antipasto spread. Also the carving board selections were very nice. We will be back!
Ok at best
Went to Rods for lunch after an event and although the atmosphere was very nice the food was not very good. Burgers were dry, tuna was unpleasant and our servers barely spoke English. Probably would not have wrote a review but with Rods prices I expected much better food and service.

Good food and service
Rod's has consistently good food and an experienced, more than capable waitstaff. The steaks are amazing, although a meal can be a bit pricey, as it is ala carte.

First time at Rod's
It was our first visit to Rod's after passing by many times over the years. My husband and I took my parents for Sunday Brunch. Reminds me of the kinds of restaurants my grandmother liked - I knew that going in, so it wasn't a shock that it wasn't quite my style. Went for brunch. It was overall okay. I can't see myself going back though. Buffet looked great, but actually I didn't care for some of the selections I made in the end. Coffee wasn't hot and didn't taste good, OJ was too sweet. Just ...meh.
Place has a very dated decor however they had a great band playing that evening. The food was just eh....but the service here was very poor.
Rod's on a weeknight
I must say , this was not my first time dining at Rod's, and still each time I'm there , it continues to feel like a special occasion. I met a few colleagues for dinner on a weeknight , and between the staff, the food and the overall ambience it was another wonderful evening ! This was the first time I didn't order one of Rod's terrific steaks , I had the pork chops , and yet again it was a true steak house experience. I cant wait to my next chance to go again !

Delicious expensive steaks. Main room a bit dated. Hold on to your plate if you're not done. Busboys are quick!
The rail car motif is great, the folks who took care of us were there when we wanted something but not in our way for nice dinner. The steak was fantastic. But the lobster, I had a tail and my wife had a hole, were over cooked taking much of the flavor away. The wine list was great. Desert was nice. This is a place we will come back too, but may not order the lobster.
our server was Lewis he was awesome as was the food as usual

This place is for NJers who have no idea what good food should taste like. Steak was smothered in sauce, and overcooked, soup was cold etc.
Steak was great and my girlfriend loved the salmon. Seafood for an appetizer was great as well. Definitely will be back eventually for a nice romantic night out
Valentine’s Day at Rod’s Steakhouse
We have never been disappointed at Rod’s. The quality of the food is excellent. The ambiance of the parlor cars is romantic. The menu was special and limited for the day; we asked for an extra course, was told it could be done, and it was ultimately forgotten. Otherwise a perfect dinner. We will return.
Great as always
This was my first brunch but 3rd time there. Each time has been better than the first perfect time. Amazing really. Price the Sam as any high end restraunt. This really is a gem.
Gotta love Rods
I can remember going to Rod's on very special occasions when I was a child and I'm going to guess it was 45-50 years ago. Now, my wife and I go to Rods for dinner. We decided to go to brunch on Valentine's Day which was a first for us. So many things to choose from, so little room in our stomachs to enjoy it all. As usual, we were not disappointed.

This is a very good place for Sunday brunch. Outstanding selections. - The only negative was the fact that despite an explicit request not to be seated in a side room, the staff wasted no time trying to seat us in what was at the time a room without guests. - This they did not handle well at all, but after our insistence, they did seat us in the main restaurant.

Very disappointed in the meal for the expense. The asparagus was sent back as it was under cooked. The manager did remove it from the bill. The steak was nothing special and for the price I had expected something better. I hate to say this but I had a better, more flavorable, steak at longhorns a few weeks back. The building is beautiful but the value just wasn't there and sadly we won't be returning
Good food, service just OK
I have been to Rod's three times and each time has been consistent with food quality, which has been good. Unfortunately, the other consistent occurrence at Rod's is the lackluster service. This particular time we were the very first people seated for lunch and the server (Carlos, who apparently was new) was no where to be found for over five minutes until I had to ask another server for assistance. While the water refills were plentiful, the beverage of choice refills were virtually non-existent. Not what this establishment should accept as the norm but perhaps it actually is so. The best part of the lunch was the crab bisque. I ordered the Turkey open face and the turkey was cut so thin it lost its taste and presentation. I asked for gravy for the mashed potatoes but it never came. We asked for additional bread and butter, never came. There are far too many alternatives in the area, either Madison or Morristown, to settle for Rod's. It may be good at night for dinner but lunch left me wishing for more, again.

I surprised my husband with a 30th birthday dinner at Rods, and it was perfect!! From the food selection, to the romantic setting, to the complimentary birthday cake at the end; everything was nothing short of fabulous! I would highly recommend this restaurant to friends and family! I just wish we figured out what a great place Rod's was sooner!!! We will absolutely be back.
I LOVE THIS PLACE
The food was very good - thick cut juicy steak, mashed potatoes, cream of spinach, sauteed mushrooms, walnut date bread (for which I learned they are known). We enjoyed a lovely Rioja with our meal. The service was extremely attentive and the staff very nice. The star of the night though was the restaurant itself. I would go back just for the setting. We dined in a private railroad car. It was fun and pretty, and I think I would've enjoyed also sitting in one of the larger cars. I will come back with my children. I want to host a party there. Absolutely LOVE this place and seriously have not stopped thinking about it since we had dinner there Saturday night. I hear they have a fabulous brunch, too.
Great Food...if only service was as good
The steaks were outstanding. Great taste and cooked to perfection. BLT Salad what could be better, never have had nearly as good. Service was adequate, but really not what is expected at this price point.
It's ok, but could use a facellift
We asked to be seated in the old train car because that is the unique feature. It is charming, but was a bit musty smelling and could use a refurbish. The bar area is really lovely, although we didn't spend any time in there, and it could be that the other restaurant and pub areas are more updated, but we did not eat in there. The food was good - not great, but good, and the service was pleasant and attentive. The martini was excellent! I had not been to Rod's in many years, so gave it a try because I had out of town customers in wanted to take them somewhere in NJ that was a bit out of the ordinary. Not sure I would go back.
You will NOT be disappointed. What a GEM!!
Found the restaurant on OpenTable and decided to go there for a special occasion, a retirement celebration. It was perfect. The ambiance, the food, our server, everything was just right. We'll definitely be going back soon.
Ambiance, Ambiance, Ambiance
Hadn't been to Rod's in few years, but was not disappointed. Walking into the dining area reminded me of one of the reasons I love this place. AMBIANCE. The retro turn of the century feel, the piano gently rolling out tunes & the welcoming staff made this night perfect. Oh & by the way, my steak was great!
NICE AMBIANCE AND EXTENSIVE WINE LIST
Food was fresh and tasty (we had tomato and mozzarella and French onion soup) which were both good. We both had the filet minon which was decent but the outside was too well done for our tastes (our only complaint really) that gives the restaurant a good from very good. Will try again and probably a different steak or entrée. The lobster mac and cheese was Yummy!!
