Restaurant piccolo is like a fine wine in the heart of Georgetown. It's authentic it has great ambience and the food is always terrific. The veal chop is outstanding.
Tasty Italian dinner
Dinner was excellent as always, especially for vegetarians. Great wine to pair with our food. For a wed. night, we thought they were super busy (perhaps that's their norm), service was a bit slow at times. We will still go back, as the food is good, and service is good too (we saw our waiter waiting on a larger group and was super busy too).

I had three non-drinking age college girls with me for dinner and the only thing the waiter could think of was how to get us in and out as quickly as possible. They even brought the entrees while we were still eating our appetizers. Very rude. Food was decent but who had time to enjoy it?
Decent Italian in lively GTown
We dined here on a busy Friday evening at 8:30 after making reservations 2 weeks in advance. The maitre'D was extremely accommodating seating us 15 minutes early. Two different veal dishes were very nicely prepared. A stuffed portobello mushroom appetizer was tasty and large enough to be split. The menu was nice and varied. The atmosphere was quite lively and pleasant. Overall, Ristorante Piccolo is a solid restaurant with very attentive service.
Great restaurant in a great area!
I found this restaurant online when looking for a great place to go with friends while visiting DC. I was impressed, the ambiance was great, and the food was fantastic without being over-priced. I will definitely go back.
Absolutely loved the dinner my date and I had at Ristorante Piccolo! The service was fantastic (not too much oversight by the waiter, just enough to keep our glasses full and plates cleared when need-be) and food was really delicious. The staff was accommodating to us moving upstairs rather than be in the nosier downstairs and it is well worth it. Would have loved to have sat on the deck, but it was a little chilly for that. So we'll have to come back to do it again!

Shared a nice evening with some good food!
Great food, nice but small space, so can be LOUD
The food was great. The service was good, too. The biggest downside was the large family group with kids right next to us. The restaurant is a small space, so you can't help but be close to other tables. And this group of a dozen or so at the tables next to us clearly had gotten an early start (some had small kids) on drinking and dinner, especially the drinking. They were very LOUD. The restaurant was still not very busy, so I'm not sure why the four of us were seated right next to them as opposed to elsewhere in the restaurant. However, most of this was not the restaurant's fault, but the group's; people need to realize there are other people around, and need to control their VOLUME. It was out of control. At one point, all the other tables just stopped, and everyone turned around and stared at the group. Thank goodness ours was just a dinner for four with friends. If it had been a date or romantic occasion, it would have been ruined. That being said, the food was excellent, outstanding, and the service was very good, too.
Great italian in georgetown
Was able to get reservations on short notice and food was great. I had the pasta amaciatrana which had just the right amount of spice, pancetta and cheese. Could have used slightly less sauce, but maybe that is just a peccadillo of mine. It seems to me like most American italian restaurants use too much sauce. Anyway it was delicious. My daughter had the ravioli that they are famous for. She said it was delicious and it must have been; there was none to share!

The service was good at the door, but the waiter was a little rude, and I was shepherded into a corner. I hoped for good food, but it was extremely mid tier, and again, service did not improve. Would not go back. Thoroughly disappointed.
A gem we overlooked
We've been in Washington for over thirty years and yet never managed to find Piccolo before now! It is a charming Italian place in Georgetown that makes you feel welcome immediately and feeds you well also! We were there for a birthday dinner for my husband and it was so enjoyable. I loved my bruschetta appetizer and he enjoyed the calamari. Entrees were traditional but well prepared and the right amount of food. Service was attentive but most of all we enjoyed the ambiance of good humor, a diverse clientele and charming space. Will definitely return again.
Big Piccolo didn't disappoint for Easter in GT!
Piccolo mean small in Italiano so the restaurant is on the small side but everything else there is BIG. Great service, food, wines, dessert, etc. Enjoy when in DC. We did for our cozy Easter dinner. Buon Appetito! We will be back on our next trip to Georgetown.
I enjoyed the restaurant overall. I thought it could have been a little bit cleaner- our place mats did not look like they were washed as we could see small stains and crumbs on them. The staff was pretty good and responsive and I enjoyed the food. It was a nice atmosphere.

Mediocre food. Bland marinara sauce. Could have used a spice or two. Like a majority of Georgetown establishments, they seem to rely on style over substance. The formula probably works when serving tourist. As a local, we have many options. Won't be back.

Very small appetizers, but full price. Good food that is generally overpriced. Lends the impression of a quiet and intimate restaurant, but you may be seated so close to your neighbors that your elbows will (literally) touch. Not for special or intimate occasions.
place was very crowded and service was sketchy- layout of tables (too many tables in small space) was too tight to enjoy the good food/dining experience
Have dined at Picolo many times over several years - always great service - ambiance - great value - wonderful host David - our most favored server Shafik - never disappoints good for any occasion
Great G'town spot
We went there for my birthday because I wanted to go to Mr. Smith's Piano bar afterward and it was close by and could take a group of 9 at 7:00. It is the cutest little row house with a neat balcony that fits tables for two. The upstairs and front are perfect for groups of 2-4. The sit the larger tables in the back which is fine... more noisy back there but that was ok. We made most of the noise I think. The menu is typical Italian and everyone had a great meal. Pasta is home made and it makes all the difference. I had the cannelloni special. Friend had the fish and loved it. Prices were moderate for G'town. I'd go back there for sure. Great date place I think-- lots of nooks for a feeling of intimacy. Wait staff was very nice. It took us a while to get our drinks, that was my only real criticism. The roving violinist was a great touch. He came over to our table and performed. Very cool.

A really quaint, authentic Italian spot off of busy M St in Georgetown. The Lobster ravioli was amazing, while my wife's veal scallopini could be cut with a fork. Prices were very reasonable in DC standards. Look for it on 31st!

Authentic and genuine across all elements. We had a great family dinner there and the service was excellent. Big menu where anyone can find something to fit their tastes.
Another memorable evening
We attended a special wine tasting dinner and the entire evening was perfect. The food was excellent along with the impeccable service. The wine was very good and the presentation was informative but not too lengthy. This is our favorite place to go for good fine and excellent food. The staff is very personal and attentive, particularly David the general manager. We will be back soon.

Love facade of this restaurant and the intimacy of it. Food is outstanding.
Both the restaurant and the menu could use a major renovation, and the high prices should be reflective of a fine dining experience, which it certainly was not.
I live in North Carolina and I booked the reservation on line. I had never heard or have been to this restaurant. Everything about the experience was great! From the host, to the waiter that served us, the ambiance, along with the wine list and food, everything was five stars! I would absolutely go back the next time I'm in DC.

wines are a bit pricey but decent selection; food is tasty with nice options & specials available; area in Georgetown is a pedestrian location near the C & O canal.
Uninspiring Italian Food
Wedged into what looked like the Little Italy of Georgetown, Piccolo is suffice to say very uninspiring when it comes to the experience. The food was neither terrible nor awe inspiring and certainly not worth the prices they charge for it. Appetizers were quite small in portion and the meal itself caused me to question whether or not I should have just bought the ingrediants at the store and made it myself. Beyond that the staff were relatively friendly and the service was prompt. My guess is the prices are purely based on location which is to be expected.

The food was very good, however the service was very slow and the wait staff was inattentive. We had reservations for 7:00 and didn't get out until after 9:00 and that was only because we had to ask each time we were ready for the next phase of our meal. Even though the food was good, I would not go back to this restaurant.

On a Tuesday probably not one of their better nights. Our favorite server shafik wasn't there so the server we had didn't compare. Next time I will request shafik as our server. The food is great but it's the service that makes for a great night here.

Reasonably Priced Italian in Georgetown
Ristorante Piccolo was a pleasant surprise in Georgetown. Well-priced items on the menu complemented a well-curated and extensive wine list. The atmosphere was smart formal, but not over the top or stuffy. A nice find for a couples dinner or family get together. The most reasonable of many of the Italian restaurants we've found in Georgetown.

We always seem to be sat at the same table, upstairs on the non-stop vibrating floor with people constantly walking past. We thought it was a funny coincidence but it feels like that is where they stow the unwanted dining couples. The food was dry and without flavor, the portion size shrunk and we felt rushed from the moment that we sat down at "our table".

Very cozy atmosphere. Fireplaces on both levels. The service was outstanding and the staff very friendly. The prices are reasonable compared to other Italian restaurants close by.
Good for business lunch
my office is near this restaurant. I was there with two business colleagues. I ordered the express lunch. The opening salad was very good and the spaghetti was also very tasty. The bread was very soft and warm. Hard to stop eating it! The service was also very friendly and competent.

Did not have the regular menu . Had a menu that we didn't like and table I requested wasn't provided . I made reservation for valentine day early in January figuring I would be satisfied but wasn't I am truly dissatisfied with the ristorante piccolo
Wonderful Valentine's Day
We had a lovely time, our lady server was very charming and attentive, her wine recommendations good taste and value, the food delicious. Although the restaurant was almost booked out - even at the early hour at 05.15 p.m. - it was not noisy at all. We'll definitely come again!!
Don't go when it first opens
We went for Valentines brunch. Our reservation was for 11am. We got there at 1050 and they weren't ready for customers. So we had a slow start. They were still decorating for valentines day. I thought that should have been done the night before because it was distracting to our meal. But speaking of the meal, it was excellent. We really enjoyed the food. It was our first time at this restaurant, we would like to go again to try their dinner menu. But we will never go as soon as they open.
High dollar for very small portions. Needless to say, we woke up on the middle of the night starving. Crowded, servers have to slide between tables. liked the guy playing an instrument; that was nice. Don't go hungry and you'll be ok.
Very good Italian in Georgetown
We were a party of 8 on a Saturday night. With the size of our party it's difficult to go into detail about specific dishes, but everyone was very happy with their appetizers/salads and their main course. Most of the party had a pasta dish of some sort and no one was disappointed. I had the veal chop which was excellent. This is a bustling, noisy restaurant with lots of energy. Service was very good - attentive but not overwhelming and did not try to rush us through dinner. The roving violin player is an interesting touch, and although this one was a bit quirky, he was nice enough. We enjoy this restaurant when visiting our daughter who's at Georgetown. We'll definitely be back.
Romantic but tight
We loved the service and food here. The dishes reminded us of our recent trip to Italy (which we were hoping for!) The ambience is nice and romantic, but the seating was very tight.
