Resto, French slang for casual restaurant, opened its doors in April 2007. The concept of a laid back neighborhood gathering place with approachable Belgian food in the style of New York, was created by the owner, Christian Pappanicholas. Resto has become a destination in Gramercy Park/Murray Hill for a delicious dinner, weekend brunch or a late night bite. The knowledgeable and friendly staff is well versed in the extensive Belgian beer list and the thoughtful wine list which focuses on a selection of French, Italian and Spanish wines. The menu is crafted using traditional French technique, with an emphasis on seasonal, mostly local, farm fresh ingredients. Resto prides itself on elements like a revolving seasonal menu as well as large format plates such as Cote De Boeuf, Whole Roasted Pig or Lamb. Resto's dining room can accommodate 75 guests with 12 seats at the bar where we encourage full dining. We also have our baby brother "The Cannibal" next door; a retail beer & butcher shop.

Resto Ratings and Reviews
Great food, spotty service
Went late at night on a Friday. I think we arrived when servers were being reduced. Restaurant was only moderately full. Menu reads great and food was great. The spotty service and slow attention didn't help the evening. That said I'd go back and still recommend just put a bruise on an otherwise nice night.

The food and drinks were very good. However, the service was not great. We ordered a sampler of dipping sauces for the fries which was not served until 30 minutes after we got our fries.

Great Meal @ Resto!
Surprisingly good--great knowledgable service (Jeremiah our waiter was outstanding), excellent, flavorful food (octopus, calamari appetizers, steak for 3, fries), good whiskey to start (like the big single ice cube), Belgian draft beer and wine. Just a great meal for my 2 sons & me.

Very delicious and love the atmosphere. The staff was a bit slow, we had to send a dish back because they brought it out after everyone had already finished their meals, but it didn't ruin the experience.

Great neighborhood place
Wonderful beers. Every dish a delight. Nice ambience and most to tail dining if you wish
Good burger, nice vibe
Went mid-week, midday. The place was not crowded and only moderately buzzy. The burgers and fries were tasty, the service unobtrusive. We stayed 90 minutes and were comfortable throughout. It's a well-run place with a nice feel to it and quality food.
Resto does an amazing job of creating delicious, unique dishes that do not feel forced or overly thought-out. They do all their butchering in-house (which I only recently learned) so take advantage of their carnivorous offerings!
Disappointed after NYT Review
Better than average pub food is what you get at Resto. Chicken was a bit overcooked. Cod starter tasted like fish mashed potatoes. No standouts here. Service is aggressive. Very noisy.

After a hiatus of several years....
We returned to Resto after the recent two star review in the NYTimes. Is it a two star experience? Not really. The service is friendly despite the close quarters and noise. But the food was hit and miss. The "double" burger consisted of two horrendously overcooked patties. I asked for medium rare, and the waiter said they do them medium. Fair enough. But these were beyond well done. Salads were good. The caramel creme brule for dessert: disappointingly over-sweet. This place gets an enthusiastic twenty-something crowd, and they seemed content.
A new chef - all to the good
I'd eaten a while ago at Resto and found it okay, but not a restaurant I'd return to. With its new chef it seems to have improved. I mainly had small plates and starters. The brandade was excellent - especially the grilled oiled bread served with it. Steak tartare was an unusual version, with some textures and flavors not usually encountered. I confess I prefer the classic version, but this one was also good. The chicken liver pate on toast was scrumptious, as was the charred octopus tentacle. The least interesting dish was a side dish of beets. There was nothing wrong with it, but it didn't have a lot of flavor. People at an adjoining table loved their scallops and duck. The caramel rum creme brulee was very good. Service was efficient and helpful, though I have never heard the word 'guys' used so often in an evening. Seating is cramped, but it's a bistro.
Really enjoyed the meal here. Outstanding server who made good recommendations. The duck and Brussels sprout side were delicious
Best burger in the city
I have been going to Resto since they opened with my husband, family, friends for lunch and dinner. I don't have burgers often but their burger is the BEST burger in the city. And you must get the assorted dipping sauces with their magnificent fries. You will have difficulty selecting your favorite. They have a fantastic beer selection but if you're not in the mood for beer, they have a very nice wine selection as well. Everything is tasty here but outside of the star burger, the kale salad is very delicious. I would also recommend them for brunch. The egg dishes are great. I have not yet had a disappointing meal here. I will always go back.

Very disappointing: way too loud + not great food
Our server was nice, but he couldn't do anything about the reverberating noise that literally made it hard to hear a couple of guys talking across a small table, even when leaning in. Larger groups, drinking a lot, booming loud voices, it's that kind of place. The food, which I was looking forward to from Bruni's old review, turned out to be tired and disappointing. The vaunted burger was kind of dry and overall gray, more grease than flavor. The starter salad was nice, but the price tag was way out of line for quality, service, ambience. If you have wealthy vikings in town and want to impress them with a faux-bistro vibe, go for it.
Reliably good food
Resto can be counted on for serving "comfort food" after a busy day at work. The extensive list of European beers is a good place to start. I am partial to the "small plates" - particularly the Deviled Eggs and the Broiled Octopus. The menu is limited but still offers sufficient variety. The service is friendly and helpful.

Nice brunch spot, great service
Although we were a bit older than most of the diners here, we had a very pleasant weekend meal and were glad we tried Resto. They have a "boozy brunch" drinks specials that we did not take advantage of, but the pomegranate Bellini I did have was delicious. Menu for brunch is not large but we all found things we liked. Desserts also were quite nice. Wait staff could not have been more pleasant or more helpful, overall a very enjoyable meal.

Fun spot! Happy hour at the bar 5-7 is perfect to catch up with an old friend. It's not going to be busy at 5 & you aren't going to find someone to meet but makes for a civil conversation at a reasonable level. Food was delicious. Service was great.
Reliably good food
There is along and varied list of Euopean beers. The menu is somewhat limited but offers suffice to choice. I keep returning for tasty food and excellent beer.
Great Food, Strange Service
The grilled octopus starter and the duck were very good. Service was courteous, but a bit slow on the drink orders and got stranger. After clearing our starters, one server asked if we'd like to see the dessert menu. We said we'd rather see our entrees first. Then, after clearing the entrees, a different server came to tell us that our creme brulee would be another few minutes. We told her we didn't order creme brulee and she hovered a bit with dessert menus in her hand without saying anything. A few minutes later, the first server arrived with a creme brulee saying sorry about his mistake earlier and he ordered us something sweet on the house "because something sweet makes everything better!" We were never shown a dessert menu, but we're not really dessert people. At least they forgot to charge me for a $14 glass of wine that was a kind of short pour.
The restaurant itself is very nice and the staff sat us on time. However, it was very loud in there and they had music playing at very loud levels on top of that. I literally could not hear my wife from across the table. Our food was ok but nothing to write home about. The draft lines were down so I could not order the beer I wanted and they ran out of the dessert we tried to order. Our server was very nice but she had numerous tables so our orders were a little slow in getting to us. Overall, it wasn't a horrible experience but I would no go back or recommend to others.
Great Music! Great staff!
As a Brooklynite, conceding to brunch in Manhattan for my out of town friends should have been a tragedy. Resto was not. I loved the bellinis and my food was delicious. The staff was incredibly accommodating and allowed us to linger because the 80's music took us all back to our childhoods. So much so that we demanded the playlist and waited for the manager to enlighten us. I would go back with or without the out of town friends' excuse. My hangover pasta was the perfect excuse to eat carbs!
I had a good time at Resto. The server was very nice, attentive and knowledgeable. I never had to wait very long for anything. I liked my Moules Frites also. The French fries and Bernaise sauce were also exceptional. I plan to come back.
We had a great time at Resto. The service was great and the food absolutely delicious. I would definitely recommend it to a friend (especially the younger set) @ 69 & 70 we were without a doubt the oldest in the restaurant but we did feel very much at home.
Lunch with the husband
Resto was a great place to meet for lunch. Delicious food, not loud, not overwhelmingly large portions. Quick and friendly service. Try the grilled cheese with bacon!
One star for food says it all. But have to give two stars for the niceness of the server even though service was sloooooww. Took too long serve food including the appetizers which were totally unappetizing.
Reliable comfort food
The deviled eggs are always a treat. The main course and daily specials never disappoint. The beer list is massive but the servers offer informed and friendly advice.
solid drink and brunch menu
While Resto is well known for an expansive beer menu, the service has been faltering since last year. Upon my most recent visit, the food order took way longer than expected. The staff brought the check to us prior to being served, which was quite odd. Another server accidentally spilled water on the check while serving coffee refills. The check was taken away, BUT a completely incorrect check was brought to our table upon actually asking for it. This past weekend offered a very strange dining experience. It ultimately took 20 minutes for them to relocate the correct check.
Great dinner in Murray Hill
I really enjoyed my dinner at Resto. The food and drinks were fantastic.
Best burger in New York
I've been going to Resto since it opened. I've had dinner brunch and lunch there and it has consistently been good. They make the best burger and the best fries. I've tasted their egg dishes for brunch which were very good and also their kale salad is delicious. Great place with polite service and their beer selection is formidable.
I used to love Resto a few years ago. I'd get their eggs benedict served on mini Belgian waffles. I mean, c'mon, that's pretty awesome! Now they don't offer that dish and their menu seems pretty boring. They still offer eggs benedict, of course, which I ordered with ham, but it was brought to me with prosciutto. I have nothing against prosciutto, but I'm not a fan of it with my eggs. The menu should have been more specific. What was more upsetting was that the dish was swimming in hollandaise and came with two of the tiniest and most pathetic poached eggs I've ever had. Quite a lackluster performance. It seems each time I go back to Resto the quality of the food continues to decline, which makes me sad because it used to be one of my favorite places for brunch off Park Ave. Hopefully they'll make some much-needed improvements.

First time with French food
Food was very well prepared, but service could have been better. And no one told us that sparkling water was $7 extra! But either way, overall great experience.
