Birthday Celebration!

Dined on April 23, 2016

I booked a very special spa weekend at Oban Inn for a special treat for my daughter last February! I reserved our table four days before arriving for our weekend (April 23/24) requesting a table by the window & menu restrictions due to my daughter's celiac condition . When we arrived at 7:30pm, the hostess was about to seat us at a table in the corner by the window which we had asked for. The manager of the restaurant abruptly interrupted us & said that table was already spoken for. I replied that I had a reservation asking for a window table to which he replied, 'Here is another table by the window'. It was very close to other tables & clearly not our first choice. He then proceeded to ask us if we had a nice walk & that he noticed me getting my coat from my car. It was very unsettling as if he was watching us even before we went to the restaurant. My daughter (who was celebrating her 35th birthday) & I thought he was extremely rude by denying the table of our choice even though the hostess was already directing us to that table & his comments about watching our comings & goings prior to coming into the restaurant were totally inappropriate! Our waitress was very good & our food was delicious! But we were left to feel like second class customers because of the rude behaviour of the manager! He even tried to chat us up at breakfast the next morning as if he was trying to make up for his rudeness & inappropriate comments the previous evening!

We very much enjoyed the staff, food and extra touches. There was great use of truffles (Gnocchi) which we like and the portions were filling. We have been before and will go again at the next opportunity.

Very cute and quaint restaurant. We ate here for dinner on our first night since we stayed in the Oban inn for our anniversary. From check in to check-out it was flawless. And Allison at the front desk was such a sweetheart and super accommodating. Even though we arrived to the hotel at 8:30pm and our dinner reservations were at 8pm, everything was just fine and they accommodated us. For dinner i prdered the steak 6oz and frittes and my hubby ordered the duck confit. Both were deliciously presented and tasty. I would come back again.

Our favourite restaurant in NOTL.

Dined on March 19, 2016

We love this restaurant so much that we're constantly bringing visitors to dine there with us. But now we've run into a problem: the menu isn't changing often enough for us to avoid having the same meals over and over again. Perhaps this is because we haven't gotten into the busy season yet, and we'll see some changes in April/May. But when there are no daily specials, and fewer than 10 entrees to choose from, it doesn't take long before you've had them all...especially if you don't eat seafood. You're down to a couple of steaks, one chicken dish, a delicious duck confit and a vegetarian dish. Let the chef treat us to more of his wonderful creations! He's very clever and I'm sure he'll come up with some terrific ideas. (BTW, if you can't have gluten, they're terrific with options. I'd be thrilled if they added at least one more GF dessert.)

A delicious gem!

Dined on March 17, 2016

This was our first visit to the Oban Inn Restaurant and it will definitely not be the last! Our meal was delicious, the ambiance relaxing and peaceful, service was sensitively paced. The wine list was extensive, the dinner menu varied enough to suit all palettes and tastes. Generously portioned entrees - regretfully no room for dessert!

Oban Inn Restaurant

Dined on March 13, 2016

We look forward to having dinner at the Oban every 1 or 2 months. It's normally a 4 star experience that we look forward to. On this occasion, the service was unfocused and disappointing. Hopefully the next time it won't be like this, or it will be our last time.....

Oban Inn a great place for dining

Dined on February 28, 2016

My wife and I went here during the Fabulicious 2016 festival, and we had a great time. The food was very good, and the service (Alexa) was fantastic. The festival price ($39 for 3 course dinner) was a steal. We'll be back.

We went there for valentine's day 2016. The food was great and portion sizes generous. However, the staff was inattentive. It seemed some of their friends were dining there that evening and they appeared to be socializing quite frequently. I would guess that would be a one off.

it is a lovely Inn, and the people want it to be first rate, but the food is not good enough... it is overly fancy but odd, and trying to order just a very plain green salad, was impossible!

The Oban Inn never disappoints us, from the welcome from Perry, the excellent service of Dawn and the food par excellence. The salmon with the ham hock mashed potatoes was a masterful blend of flavours. The chicken and the tuna dishes were equally as good. Presentation was great. A real treat this time were the innovative desserts. Please do try the Berry Blast a great combination of creamy, tangy and crispy textures.

Poor value for amount of food received

Dined on December 26, 2015

Boyfriend and I visited Oban Inn for Christmas Day dinner. Three-course prix fixe menu. Salad was good but the turkey plate left wanting. One thick slice of turkey and 3 brussel sprout halves on the plate ....that's 1.5 brussel sprouts!! A small scoop of stuffing and mashed potatoes. Sorbet dessert was good but to have paid $55/plate? The brussel sprouts really got me. Overpriced and limited wine selection.

Some things to improve on

Dined on December 25, 2015

We really appreciated having a dining option at the Inn. Overall, we had a very nice evening, but felt there were a few things missing from our experience. The prix fixe menu could be good value, but it really depends on your choices. We understand there is a new chef and restaurant manager so hopefully they will continue to improve on things as it is a lovely destination.

Special Christmas lunch

Dined on December 25, 2015

"We enjoyed the relaxed feel of this place – like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. We definitely will return to try more dishes. The Christmas menu was amazing; mussels, steak, and turkey and stuffing, creamy mashed potatoes was delicious and dessert was yummy. Our service was well-timed and friendly, wines were affordable."

Awesome Restaurant

Dined on December 13, 2015

We attended the Oban Inn to celebrate our 21st Wedding Anniversary. We made reservations in the restaurant and upon looking at the menu had decided to have the Chef's Dinner Sampler paired with wines for each course. The food was outstanding and the pairing of the wines for each course was bang on! We would definitely go back for both dinner and overnight accommodations!

Dined on October 11, 2015

We really enjoyed our meal at the Oban Inn and Spa. My husband's chicken in a hazelnut sauce with wild mushrooms was amazing. I wasn't feeling well but still enjoyed the butternut squash, ginger and apple soup along with a caesar salad. The wine and cocktails were also excellent.

Service

Dined on October 9, 2015

Server did not offer Thanksgiving dinner menu. It was offered by the other server to other diners and we noticed at the end that there was such a menu. Server did not accommodate request for a 2 oz. wine amount in a glass even though we would pay the regular glass rate. . Regular glass serving was given instead to my wife. We paid on way out as server never came to take our credit card.

This is the first time I didn't enjoy my meal at the Oban Inn. I had mussels which were tiny and 1/3 were unopened. The waitress brought me a small plate more but half of them were unopened again. I did not like the sauce. I would have preferred the traditional wine broth. I had to ask for bread to accompany them. I took my husband to the Oban Inn for his birthday dinner.

Dinner with an English cousin

Dined on September 13, 2015

My wife & I had dinner at the Oban Inn with my cousin & his wife from England; their first trip to Canada. The dining room was beautiful, we were greeted warmly and seated by a window overlooking the garden. The service was quite professional & friendly. Now to the food. Our salad was excellent, not overdressed. The only problem was the dinner. My wife ordered grilled Pickeral, and the fish was good but it came on a mayo-based cole slaw accompanied by salty french fries, not what I would expect to accompany grilled fish. My cousin had the Steak frites. The steak was excellent, properly done, but his french fries were so salty he had to send them back & get less salty ones. The Oban staff gladly did the exchange but we thought that a restaurant such as the Oban Inn would have accompanied the fish with more suitable sides and omitted the very salty french fries. Otherwise it was a good meal.

Beautiful space and attentive service but the Steak Fritte was so tough and full of gristle as to be inedible. They graciously took it off the bill and offered alternatives (no time, theatre tickets) but that quality of need should never have left the kitchen. In my experience, they used the wrong cut - a thick chunk (2" cube) of sirloin instead of a thin, flat beefsteak with some marveling. French fries were out of this world good - try them with a burger.
