Postino Ratings and Reviews

It was my first time there. I love the decor. It made me feel like I was in Europe. Quaint and elegant. The menu was different which I enjoy. Rabbit was on the menu and my husband who will never ordered that before, was in the mood to try something different and tried it and loved it. I had duck which was also very tasty. Our waiter was charming. Will return for sure.
Not a good night for Postino
It started off bad when I had to return my cocktail for the first time in my life! The lemon drop tasted awful with NO sweet-tarte taste to it at all. Our waitress was very nice, but kept blaming her forgetfulness with the restaurant being so busy (although tables were empty all around us!). Our very nice bottle of red wine appeared after we were almost half-way done with our dinner entrees. (It was the 2nd bottle we ordered right after we finished our Rombauer Chardonnay.) Forgot to bring salt, pepper, and parmesan cheese for the pasta that was ordered...finally flagged down someone else to help us. Never got refills on our water when we desperately wanted and needed it! The service lacked everything that should have been expected when dining at Postino. I'm a 15-year resident of Lamorinda and would not go back, unfortunately. I spent a lot of money on this celebration dinner for 5 people and I left terribly disappointed and remorseful for spending several hundreds of dollars.
Nice space, inconsiderate and mindless service.
Someone build/remodeled a really nice space here, but the management and staff are struggling to fill it with the service of equal quality. A special occasion was never acknowledged in any way and the reservation request was not carried through. Food is ok: not bad, not especially good either. Waiters are of a weird kind, as if on high, or unbalanced: almost rudely interrupting a conversation, making sharp noises and moves, not being able to set up all the dishes on the table - something one would not expect from a $$$ establishment. Overall service from all the staff feels as inconsiderate and mindless. For the money one pays, one doesn't get the desired experience.
Great food, service, & atmosphere.
I love this restaurant for several reasons. Great food, excellent service, and lovely atmosphere. A unique point about this restaurant is that you can actually hear and speak to one another with no difficulty. So many restaurants think it's fashionable to be noisy. I'm not a fan. Postino has delicious food, albeit a bit pricey. Because of this, I consider this a "special occasion" spot rather than an "any night" spot. I wouldn't hesitate to return.

Great food great service great restaurant
First Time at Postino
Any thing duck is delicious. The Foie Gras was prepared rare. Pairing it with a Sauterne as recommended was delicious and unexpected. The roasted duck breast had an intriguing fresh berry sauce (Huckleberry?). Skin was crisp. Served over ourzo. This dish reminded me of Peiking Duck somewhat. If I could Sub out the ourzo for steamed buns that would be an interesting twist.
What a Great Experience!!
From the moment we arrived until the time we left we were attended to with smiles and friendly service. The dishes we were served were magnificent, the wine selection superb, the the ambiance marvelous.
Underwhelming service = disappointing evening
You know when you use Opentable and let the restaurant know that you're going for dinner and its your 21st wedding anniversary? Not for any reason other than it may give the staff a talking point and a connection to us and our evening. Well none of that happened. We went in with high hopes (my firm has an offsite event here every year so I was really looking forward to the dinner here with my family for my 21st wedding anniversary) which were rapidly dashed as the lady at reception wouldn't even look at us as she assigned our table - way in the corner in the dark. After that the server was functional at best with no attempt made at conversation or pretty much anything at all. We were given our menus without being asked for drinks and then the whole process seemed to be a little hurry-up-and-slow-down. Just felt off and unnatural, like we weren't wanted. However, the food was good and hot and we enjoyed our evening despite the lack of hospitality. I'll go into this year's company offsite with a different perspective.
This dining experience was average. I had the short ribs, which were fine. My wife and son had the chicken breast. The chicken was tough, apparently over cooked. A relatively rookie mistake for a restaurant like this. Also, we asked that an outdoor speaker that was playing music literally at our feet be turned off. The request was totally ignored with a relatively snide remark by the server. All in all, pretty unimpressive experience.
Wonderful historic, ambience and not too noisy.
Higher cost dictates that one would choose Postino's for a special occasion. With that in mind, it is worth it. The menu items are imaginative; especially delicious was the French pasta with rabbit.
One of the very best in the SF East Bay
Exceptional cuisine, service, and atmosphere is my experience each time I come here. Very creative and tasty specials compliment a wonderful menu. The food is excellent and artfully presented. Postino's has wonderful valet parking staff. The restaurant has charming architecture, set in a lovely garden with intimate dining areas inside and on the terrace next to the garden. If you can reserve one of Caroline's tables you will be beyond pleased with the experience.
I enjoy Postino for the ambiance. I've been there twice recently for lunch & been underwhelmed with my meal unfortunately. (Arugula Salad + Salmon). The Salmon was uninspired & the salad consisted of that + a pile of Arugula with a tiny (2 inch in diameter) mound of goat cheese with maybe 3 pine nuts. I wouldn't have minded paying 17-$18 . (the Salmon piece was relatively small). I didn't find the meal to be a $22 entrée. The Tiramusu was tasty however.
Enough, I'm through with this place.
The food has been mediocre for a while, but generally you feel welcomed, so it is ok. Tonight, service was awful. Our waiter walked by us again and again on the way to another group without a pause. I had to flag someone else down to get a glass of wine. In the past, we often ate at the bar, so perhaps I have been spared this ridiculous treatment. I will not be back, there is absolutely no reason to eat there. Too bad.

Love this place
We don't eat here often but every time we do we are reminded about why this is such a great place -- great service, great food, wonderful atmosphere. On a nice day ask to be seated outside (they have ample heaters should it start to cool off too much in the evening). I especially enjoyed the Norwegian cod and the desserts were great.

Love Postino. Every time I dine here I request a vegan meal and the chef makes this beautiful 4 compartment dish with something different in each section. It's always delicious!
We love Postino!

We gave the ambience five stars. With the carpeting, wood beams and heavy draperies between dining room and bar the environment is not only cozy but much quieter than today's other upscale restaurants. We appreciate having conversations where we don't have to elevate our voices.

Roasted carrot salad amazing! COD with golden rice fantastic but the short ribs are perfection. Large portions. Great service!
I always enjoy dining at Postino. I was actually there for lunch as well as dinner on March 18th. It's one of my favorite restaurants & I eat out often in San Francisco.
Charming restaurant with character
My boyfriend & I decided to try this restaurant after reading reviews. Very cozy & romantic, especially if you can get seating by the fireplace. My boyfriend ordered the game hen & I ordered pasta with rabbit & mushrooms. We were in heaven! We traded dishes & loved every bite of each other's dish. Service was excellent, but expected for the price you pay. We will definitely come back!
Went for lunch. Reduce # of sandwich selections.
Service good, food good. A little expensive for the types of entrees offered.
Great place and good food.
Wonderfull restaurant in Lafayette. Beautiful setting and good is just getting better and better all the time. Great value in the wine list as well.

Service was very good even on a very busy evening and an inexperienced waiter. The duck was great as usual. Duck was over cooked on the first try but it was quickly taken care of. Will be going back very soon, we love Postino, it remains on our top 20 list.

I have wanted to try Postino for several years but just never made it there. Finally did make and was not disappointed. Nice ambiance- an old post office. Great food and service.👍👍👍
Group of 10 professionals for lunch
I had a group of 10 health care professionals - including a - MD of Italian descent - she loved it! The back table was perfect for conversation.
Have been a steady customer of Postino from the day they opened. One of the best overall restaurants in the Bay Area. Food, service, ambiance both inside and out dining - one can not ask for a finer dining or bar experience. Have also attended special occasion brunches, group dinners and lunches, as well as birthday parties - again, wonderful, satisfying experiences. Perry, Marcus, Paul, Joy, Jason, Noelle, Richard and the rest of the Postino team all make Postino a keeper.

I recommend the duck dish! Excellent! The bread pudding not as good as the apple crisp
One of the best restaurants in the bar area!
If you haven't been to Postino, you're missing out! One of the best food experiences in the East Bay!
Worst restuarnt ever!!!
Celebrated my husband's 60th birthday here. The waitress was the pushiest I have ever seen. She rushed us from the beginning. Was asking for appetizer orders before we had a minute to even look at the menu. Food was horrible, we had hen, duck, steak and pasta. The Bolognese pasta with homemade noodles had to have been the worst thing I have ever eaten in my life. Just some ground beef, noodles and liguid. No flavor whatsoever. We had actually considered Postino for a Rehersal Dinner and are so thankful we didn't. Would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Great Neighborhood Spot!
Always delicious and delightful with good service.
A great dinner celebrating our anniversary.
We started with a yummy caesar salad & a delicious seared foie gras. Then onto yellow fin tuna perfectly seared and a perfectly cooked rib eye, albeit on the thin side. Brian took very good care of us & was a great server. Please send him our thanks. Can't wait to go back for more of the same or try some of the other great sounding items on the menu.
Very good experience in all respects. Only suggestion is to include more pasta choices on lunch menu.
It's our favorite 'go to' place. We've been there for an intimate dinner, dinner with friends and special, occasions like New Years eve. Everyone at Postino is professional, friendly and makes it a joy to dine there. I very highly recommend Postino.
It was a wonderful V-Day evening. Server amazing, food amazing, ambiance amazing. The only issue we had was although we were seated in a very smaller "romantic" room at the time our dinner was served a large loud group came in. We rushed through dinner and had to move to be able to eat our dessert in quiet. We sat at the bar and had to give up a otherwise wonderful, window table. Too bad. I think the room should have been saved for couples and not one large group table added, which in a loud kackling woman who obviously was used to screaming over her children's voice. How rude she was.
A Great Evening
It's been a few years since my husband and I have dined at Postino's and it never disappoints. The menu has a nice and varied selection of dishes and everything we ordered was delicious. The service was excellent and the wine was even better. Next time we won't take so long to return to the restaurant as it definitely stands apart from it's peers.
Always a great meal!
Always a great meal!
Great ambience. Great food. This was my first time at Postino's. Ordered the calamari as an appetizer and the ribeye as the main course. Both were cooked to darn near perfection. Absolutely delicious. Also had the chocolate dessert which was another delightful plate. It was pretty noisy inside but that wasn't a problem for me.
A nice dinner
The game hen was delicious, zucchini and kale sides were fresh. My wifes cod dish was mild/light. Portions were fairly healthy. Our servers were friendly and the food arrived quickly. Our room was a little cramped and noisy at times. My wife complained that the menu was limited - she tends to complain and be moody, something to consider. Place can be difficult to find at night from the car.
