Brunch Time

Dined on April 24, 2016

Went here for Sunday brunch. I was a little put off when they said they seat the 2 out of 3 of our party, but they allowed us to sit shortly! The jazz was nice, but not too loud and overwhelming. I really enjoyed the shrimp and grits. My husband was not to happy with the hanger steak for the price. My friend was upset about the mimosas being mixed and not strong. According to both of them they are not that strong. So if you are looking for good shrimp and grits this is the spot for you. There desserts looked good but I did not get to try. Definitely make a reservation.

We have been coming to Post and Beam monthly for the last 3 years. Every time it has been a terrific experience. The menu is constantly changing and the flavor profiles are always right on. The staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating. Can't recommend highly enough.

Post and Beam is a delight!

Our Server was attentive without being overbearing. It was very obvious that the Chef takes great pride in his cuisine. Everything was tasty and made with care and forethought. We drove from Orange County and will definitely return!

Loved the ambiance as well as the music!

Dined on April 3, 2016

I would recommend this place for brunch. The music was very nice. The food was fair. I would like to taste other things to see how I truly feel about the place. I am hoping that dinner had more selections as brunch was limited. I was not a fan of the grits as I was not interested in shrimp grits, just plain, but they came with shrimp butter. So, my boyfriend couldn't taste them as he's allergic. The bad thing is that they didn't specify on the menu, but I asked due to the taste. Other than that, I would try it again!

My Neighborhood Gem

I love going to Post & Beam! Have never had a bad dining experience there and I always look forward to the opportunity to visit. I recommend it all the time to other folks and they love it too. It's a great place to pop in for dinner before heading off to a show or concert. Never feel rushed and always make my event afterwards. I love having it so close to my home!

Another good experience

vip
Dined on March 27, 2016

I had another good experience while dining at Post & Beam for Easter brunch. If I had any negative feedback, it would be that the brunch was overly "structured". I had an 11 am reservation and the restaurant did not allow anyone to enter until approximately 11:15. The brunch was buffet style and had employees serving portions While the food was good, the portions were not very plentiful. Additionally, around 12:30 pm we were politely asked to leave due to another round of customers who were waiting. I would definitely go back to dine, but would like to suggest a better set up for a major holiday such as Easter.

Dined on March 20, 2016

Overall nice location, neighborhood gem, food was fair because the steak was not all that at all and the black eye peas were cold by the time it made it to the table. The wine ppours were very short, the very small martini glasses, not cool. However I really enjoyed the music selection. Absolutely great choices in music!

Good Experience at Post & Beam

Dined on March 6, 2016

We were very pleased with the friendly wait staff, atmosphere, and the excellent food--esp. shrimp and grits. One glitch occurred when we noticed our food sitting in the pick-up window. Staff were talking at the cash register and not paying attention. The cooks should be demanding in ensuring that food goes out as soon as it ready. One dish was not as hot as it should have been. We sent it back, and the staff handled it well.

Pricey But Fun

Dined on February 20, 2016

This was my first visit to Post & Beam. We say on the patio, which was very quaint and we got to experience the live Jazz at noon. The menu was Ala carte, which I wasn't expecting, but the food was delicious. The squash soup was fantastic! The servers were very professional and attentive and they kept the mimosas coming. Though I prefer a buffet, so you can get little tastes of everything, this was very nice and relaxing. I'll visit again on special occasions.

Good vibe

Dined on February 10, 2016

P&B is one of our favorite spots. Food is great, the service is good, waiters are very friendly. I usually get the fried chicken. This time I noticed the pickles it came with - surprisingly and pleasantly spicy - and got black-eyed peas for a side. Both me and my dad loved them. We usually go there when we're about to buy an appliance at Sears :-) but this time it was to entertain out of town family. It's hard to put my finger on it, but the vibe in the place is positive - there's always a few people talking happily one way or another. Walking in the place makes me feel comfortable. Even the security guard made us feel welcome - he opened up a reserved spot when he saw one of my guests needed a cane.

Gold's 101 List Does not Dissapoint

Dined on February 10, 2016

Post & Beam exceeded my expectations with its gourmet riff on soul food. The rough hewn wood exterior is a preview of the wood-driven decor inside. Great patio! Great staff! The food was excellent - a solid 4 stars (the service is the reason for the bump - very impressive). We had: Pimento Cheese Bruschetta ($14): two generous slices of very fresh and crunchy French bread are toasted and smeared with pimento cheese and topped with house cured Tasso ham, a collard green chutney and sliced banana peppers. The result is a salty creamy delight with a little zing. This is a perfect starter for two. My friend ordered the Cornmeal Crusted Catfish in a Chile-Coconut Glaze with a side of Brussels sprouts ($23). The fish was very good - moist, with an excellent crust. I would have preferred a spicy-remoulade to the almost syrupy sweet glaze, but the sauce was good. I ordered the Faro-Edamame-Okra Side ($5) and the Brussels sprouts side ($5). The faro side was a little disappointing - a cast iron dish was filled with faro that was tossed with edamame and a few slices of okra and a few onions. It was generally underseasoned and lacking okra (I love okra, and I was really looking for a lot of it). The Brussels sprouts, on the other hand, were OUT OF THIS WORLD! Halved Brussels sprouts were roasted and tossed with bits of bacon and topped with bread crumbs. Their natural sweetness shone in this preparation. For dessert, we split a piece of the pecan crusted sweet potato pie with praline sauce and cinnamon whipped cream ($8). First, a note on the presentation - sloppy. Second, it was a pretty meager piece for $8. With these two dings, it was a really tasty piece of pie. The crust was flakey, the sweet potato filling was smooth, the pecans were plentiful and the praline sauce was burnt sugar-butter deliciousness. I highly recommend Post & Beam. Fantastic service, beautiful restaurant and very good food.

Dined on January 31, 2016

Had a great experience Brad (the owner) is there often and so is Denzel Washington (a regular patron). We ended up sitting next to him and he and the owner paid for our brunch which was delicious and a solid portion. Mimosas were not watery and held solid strength. I will definitely back at Post and Beam!

Down Home and Yummy

Dined on January 21, 2016

Tried the DineLA menu for my first experience at this lovely place, which I've been meaning to try since I first heard of it. The Dine LA menu is a definite value and gives you a chance to sample a number of different dishes. I enjoyed the bruschetta, the trout with black pea hummus and the chess pie -- outrageously delicious. My dining partner tried the gumbo, the short rib (which I should've asked for! it was awesome, but the trout was good too) and we EACH got a slice of that chess pie.

I read an article about Post & Beam on Black Enterprise and had been wanting to check it out. This place did not disappoint whatsoever! The service was excellent and the food was even better. The menu choices are good, but the shrimp and grits is a must order. I will definitely be making Post & Beam a staple on my next visit to LA.

aMAzing!

Dined on January 17, 2016

We loved Post & Beam! I was looking for a place close to the Natural History Museum and this was about 15 minutes away. The mussels and clams appetizer was very delicious. We just need more bread to sop up all that wonderful broth (or maybe a straw!). The cocktails and craft beer were a great compliment to dinner. Hubby had the salmon which was cooked perfectly. He chose the black eyed peas for his side and while tasty. he found them to be on the mushy side. I opted for the cast iron chicken and the "substitute" side -- farro with edamame and okra (the winter succotash was no longer in season). Well the farro was so good I ordered an entire side to take home to eat with my leftover chicken -- which was equally good. Dessert was a perfect apple crisp and ice cream. It was not too sweet and that's just how I like it. Can't wait to go back!

New Year's Day Winner

Dined on January 2, 2016

We went here on New Year's Day for black-eyed peas for good luck and their flatbread pizza. Both were absolutely delicious! We even took an order of black-eyed peas home, they were so good! And the service was outstanding. Pleasant atmosphere where you can easily hear your dinner companion. It was a fantastic way to start out the new year. I highly recommend.

Excellent choice post BLM rally

vip
Dined on November 26, 2015

After attending a Black Lives Matter solidarity rally in Leimert Park, four Los Angeles for Bernie supporters had an amazing dinner at Post and Beam. The corn bread was fantastic. The blackeyed peas and rice was savory. And the mac and cheese was the best I have ever had. Apparently they use a couple different cheeses. The hand crafted cocktail was very tasty. And the service was sublime. The waiter kept checking to make sure everything was OK. He gave excellent advice about wine, was attentive to my aversion to pepper and didn't gripe about splitting the check four ways. All in all, an excellent post rally dinner. I would defintely eat there the next time I am in that neighborhood.

It's so refreshing to find a high-end, classy restaurant in South LA. The staff is fun & friendly. The food is amazing. Pricey. But well worth it. Love the live jazz they have playing from time to time. One of my favorite places to go on date night, or even family night with my 2 young boys. Also love how the owner Brad is always there to greet everyone & very hands-on in his restaurant!

Outstanding brunch meal

Dined on October 18, 2015

I went here for a Sunday brunch with a friend. I had the Southern eggs with biscuit on the side and I swear, it was one of the yummiest brunch meals I've ever had. And I've had a LOT of brunch meals. It was a simple, hearty dish, but it was so full of flavor and so beautifully prepared. The ambiance here is lovely, you can sit out on the patio or enjoy the AC on the inside, as we did. Will definitely be back.
