Porkchop is restaurant and bar that dishes out an urban interpretation of a Southern backwoods experience. It is an unapologetically unpretentious neighborhood party spot serving gourmet Southern comfort food and BBQ, and featuring an innovative ‘lowbrow’ bar program with some of the world’s top whiskeys. Porkchop serves brunch, lunch, dinner and late night on Randolph Street, and will provide service for all three-meal periods and late into the evening at its Hyde Park location. The music is edgy and eclectic; live music will be a steady feature in Hyde Park

Porkchop Ratings and Reviews
Must have a list their chef!
Our waitress was very good, but that was the only plus all night. The food was awful! I had the BBQ beef. Very dry! Must have been sitting around for a long time. Asked someone (not our waitress)if I could have some BBQ sauce. He brought over an unmarked container of mayo which I squeezed on my beef. Not a plesent experience!
I've been to Porkchop several times. Each time I've ordered the pork chop (why else would you go to a restaurant named Porkchop?) This time, the chop seemed a little thinner than before. It was still delicious and I enjoyed it. The potato side they used to have has been replaced by a redskin garlic mashed. It was good, but not like the old one. And they used to have green beans as a side, and don't even offer it anymore. One of my dining companions had to order a beer three separate times because they were out of the first two. Overall, I think I'll go back, and hope that this experience was abnormal. I really hope that they're not slipping, because I think it's one of the best options on Randolph.
Food was ok nothing special.

West loop let down
I've always been very impressed with meals in the west loop. Until we went to pork chop. Food was average, service was awful. It was really a let down because we had brought our out of town guest (out of the country too) here and feel like we let her down with our dining choice.

This was my second time at Porkchop in the West Loop, and unfortunately the second disappointing visit. The pork ribs that I ordered were dried out to just a sad degree. Food is necessary for life, so I slathered with sauce until it could be eaten. I would love to have a BBQ restaurant that you can get a full meal at for a reasonable price nearby, and Porkchop would be a good value. But such a poor preparation of the staple of the genre can't be overlooked.

The restaurant was freezing cold and waiter did not apologize or offer explanation. Ribs were good, but nothing special. Dessert was overly sweet and greasy donut.
They added a 20%tip to our bill of two people...I made reservations for 6 and we was sitting at 3 tables with 3 separate checks...and all 3 checks had the 20% gratuity added...
Nice People. Food Not So Much
Great concept and very nice service and menu but food was only average. I wouldn't go back because of the food but if real improvements were made on food execution I might change my mind.
Let's start with the food. I got the BBQ platter. The chicken was great. Everything else was meh. Fried chicken, the same way. The service, however, was really bad. We sat for 5 minutes without a greet. The server didn't introduce herself, asked for a drink order, and we ordered everything. 20 minutes for the meal to arrive, and she checked in once and then dropped the check. The place was 1/2 full on a Friday night before a Hawks game. I can see why.
Great last minute find
Our family chose Porkchop for New Years, it was great! Great service, great food, great music, great place!

Great experience dining here. We had a nice lunch and the atmosphere was very warm and inviting. i highly recommend eating at the fried ribs as a starter and the cornbread with honey butter which was amazing. Not too bad on prices and the salmon salad is great!
Great as always
The food was very good and the service was great. The ribs were tender and very meaty. We will return.

Great food every time I've been there. The cornbread and honey butter sauce was amazing and loved the pulled pork. Last time I had the chicken and waffles and it was delicious!
Not worth it.
Not the best service. Seemed understaffed, but I've read reviews that poor service here is common. The table next to us was waiting 20 min for someone to come by their table. We ordered appetizers and the mac and cheese was disappointing. The bacon wrapped shrimp was ok, the fried pickles just fell apart and I didn't care for the cornmeal breading. We were going to stay for dinner, but decided to leave and eat elsewhere. Oh well.

Food and service were very good! It was a slow night for them so we got lots of attention and it was very quite which was nice. Would recommend to all and will go back!
Decent food, bad service
I've been to Porkchop twice now and both times the service was not good. The first time I waited 30 min at the bar and never had my order taken, but since it was busy from the Randolph fest I let it go and decided to come back. This time, we had a reso and it wasn't busy and yet the service still left a lot to be desired. The food was good, the sauce was great, but probably wouldn't go back because of the service. There are just too many places that have great BBQ and good service that I recommend skipping this one.
started out with the fried pickles and deep fried ribs. Pickles were ok, ribs were tasty - new twist for me, odd but pretty good. Followed with the brisket plate with fries and slaw and a side of mac and cheese. Mac and cheese was a bland as could get and slaw was terrible. Fries were good and brisket was cooked well - didn't have a great deal of smokey flavor but was tender and good. decent selection of sauces. Atmosphere was okay. Dark and a little warm as they had the air off and it was a humid day. Not likely to give it another chance considering the competition.
I was hoping that this restaurant would have great BBQ but it did not. Extremely disappointed because I live in the neighborhood. The ribs were charred! The tea drink with spiced rum tasted like water. The server did not bring out any wet wipes after our meal. I had to ask on the way out. The 2nd order was incorrect. Terrible. The bad part about it is that the restaurant was relatively empty so no excuse. It is also too dark in the restaurant. Will be the last visit unless they make some drastic changes.
very disappointing food
I had the bbq chicken. Totally dried out and basically inedible.
Great BBQ at a great price!
If you have never been, get the platter and enjoy all the things they have to offer. (Big enough to share with 2 people). The wings are also amazing!
Good BBQ on West Randolph
All BBQ dishes we ordered were very good, as was the fried chicken. Very good beer choices and a nice casual environment. Excellent attentive service makes this a great choice for BBQ on the West Loop.
Bachelor Party Dinner
Porkchop was amazing. We had 15 guys there Saturday night for dinner & everything went great. Service staff was very helpful and friendly, and put up with us well :) Great drink specials, quick service, and the prices for the quality you get are outstanding. I had the deep fried porkchop and it was life-changing. Friends around the table had burgers, steak, all kinds of the selections and every guy left full and happy. Definitely awesome, definitely going to be coming back.
come hungry, leave stuffed
great BBQ is hard to beat and PorkChop does it right. we had ribs, chicken, gumbo, fried pickles, and bacon shrimp. One thing tasted better then the next. Drinks also fun and inventive...some terrific mashups with burbon. service was attentive and present when needed but not pushing us out. very hospitable for sure! place was loud and lively on a saturday night. would absolutely go back and enjoy more southern hospitality.

Not a huge BBQ fan but I'd say Porkchop was descent for Chicago. We went there for my husband’s birthday and brought his 60+ year old parents. While my husband and I had a great meal my in-laws quickly found things to complain about including: not having enough lighting to see the menu, it being too loud, and too cold. Besides the in-laws complaining we had a great meal. And the poor server tried desperately to please everyone at my table. We would definitely come back without the in-laws next time.
Porkchop has awesome BBQ food! I had the half roasted BBQ chicken and it was so juicy and the perfect amount of char, smokiness and sauce. The rest of our group had various other items - brisket, chicken and waffles, pulled chicken sandwich and the fried chicken and it all looked, smelled and tasted amazing. The sides were great too! The ambiance in the restaurant was very energetic and when it was full it was very noisy. Once a couple of the big groups left it quieted down and was easier to have conversations at our table. Overall, a great experience and a great BBQ place in the west loop!
I have been to Porkchop before and I had a very different experience. This time the waitress was very rude, sum of the food was served cold. The wings were tasty and the drinks are pricey and in very small glass! WHO DOES THAT?? Overall nothing special and I will continue to remember the great first experience I had at Porkchop.

It was dark and quite chilly, otherwise we had a great time!
I went to Pork Chop for my birthday and was pleasantly surprised. We got the wings for our appetizer and the ribs and catfish for dinner, Along with the macaroni and cheese and collards greens. I had enough food to take home with me. I will definitely be back.
Good food great price ribs were ready to go back
Food atmosphere were great Ribs were very good wife's chicken and pulled pork was very good also as well as the soup
We went here for an anti-Valentine's Day dinner and to our surprise Restaurant week was extended. The service and food was excellent! It was also a great deal! I'm not a huge fan of the communal type dining set up, but it was worth it for the food. The chef sent out some complementary food samples as well. We were pleasantly surprised with how great the food was and would highly recommend it for any occasion!
we didn't get very good service we were
They ran a special that was for $33 dollars we asked the waiter was this the price per person and she said no together we got our food meat were dry Cole slaw was the absolute worst bake beans was not good at all we got water but no straw food but we had to ask for utensils and napkins and waiter acted like she was mad every time we asked for anything ie spoon straw etc
Dark environment, bland food
It was really hard to see the dark (brown paper bag colored) menus in this dimly lit venue and the food looked really good, but was kind of bland.
Uniquely decorated, and fried ribs.
Everything was amazing. Honestly, we couldn't really wrap our heads around the idea of fried ribs, but you need to try them.
THis was my first time dining at pork chop but the food was very good. I ordered the fish and a friend ordered the pork chop. Great choices and the drinks were also good. There are no bad choices on the menu.
