Pete Miller's Seafood and Prime Steak - Evanston Ratings and Reviews
Steaks in Evanston
For a great dining experience at a higher price point go to Pete Miller's. We left just after the music started which would have been too loud for us. However, the food was excellent, the food was excellent, and there was plenty of room between tables. Great for special occasions but given price point not a regular.
Not the same
We visited Pete Miller's exactly one year ago, however, the food was terrible this year, drinks not as good Very disappointing birthday dinner.

A very relaxing venue with wonderful music.
I really enjoyed the food, live music, and service... purposely chose this restaurant because of the menu and live music... My husband's birthday celebration was fantastic!!!!
Great Menu and Wine Selection
Excellent service, great menu and wine list. Steaks are aged beef and very high quality.. Celebrated a friend's birthday. Wonderful evening.
awesome live music
The woman singing during the dinner hour on Thursday, April 14th was WONDERFUL. Beautiful voice and a great selection of tunes. The food was pretty awesome, too.
Great food & live jazz
The food is a dependable, spot-on 10/10. We went to hear the band Paris Swing which my wife and I discovered at Pete Millers a couple of years ago. Always torn between the salad wedge, Caesars salad, and the french onion soup for starters. I LOVE the Delmonico steak and my wife likes the chicken, and we alway cross sample. Dessert of apple tart or the Key Lime pie finishes the evening as the food coma sets in. Love the place, love the food. Happy to recommend to everyone.
We came into town to hear Andy Brown. When we are in the Chicago area we try to hear him and Petra perform. My son is a guitarist and they have become friends. The food and atmosphere are a plus.
Go Somewhere Else
Went on Easter, could not order off the menu- had to do the Easter Brunch Buffet. There were WAY too many people in the small quarters of the buffet. All of the Seafood looked questionable and what I ate tasted even worse. They had no STEAK options so I went to a Steak house for Roast Beef and Turkey? My Water glass was constantly empty. We would have to wave down our waiter to get any attention what so ever.- We didn't even get a simply apology from the waiter due to him being busy. My Brother who was with my suffers from Celiac and we couldn't get any information on any of the Items, We used our best judgement but had no input
Pete Miller's is one of my favorite places to stop in Evanston for a relaxing, well-done meal. The food is excellent, and the waitstaff very attentive. Always a good time :D
The service here is always absolutely amazing!
Food is delicious, server had excellent suggestions and was attentive without hovering. It falls short of being romantic in that it's usually pretty loud in this place.
Broad range of Bar menu offerings
The bar menu offers selections for a choice of lighter dining without compromise of quality
Excellent food from the bread to the dessert!! Server was very attentive. Steaks cooked to perfection. Lamb Chops too were perfect
Scores High in Food but not Always Service
One thing about Pete Miller's is the food and cocktails are always fabulous. Last weekend the food was as good as it always is (steaks cooked to perfection) but the service was subpar. We've found it really differs from wait staff to wait staff. Some are engaging, funny, highly knowledgable about the menu, and some seem to be phoning it in. The other thing that surprised me -- with it being a more high-quality restaurant -- is they have the same typo on the menu that they did over a month ago. For us, that cheapens the place. How can you keep a known typo on the menu for that long?

Hit or miss food items. Had some really mushy (and very expensive) shrimp cocktail. Hamburger was good. Jazz quartet in bar was great!
This restaurant was excellent and the food was outstanding. The service was a bit subpar. I'm not sure if they had enough waiters. The only problem I had was that the piano and singer were way too loud. It was difficult trying to carry on a conversation because the music was a bit too loud.
The steak at Pete Millers is always tasty and well prepared as are the side dishes. The staff is friendly, helpful and appropriately attentive. The best part, for me, is the excellent jazz that is being performed live. This is especially true of Sunday nights when Andy Brown and Petra van Nuiss are the entertainers. I try to go on Sunday night just because then I get great food and great music at the same time. I hope they are booked there forever
Great but usually better
Everyone's food was delicious, the band for the evening was playing wonderfully, but for every time I've been there the service has not been worse, I understand that it is a bit more difficult to tend to a party as large as mine was( we probably should have had 2 servers) but the server that night did not really engage us we had to flag him down more often than not, the reason we were there was because it was my birthday I'm certain the server did not know that, getting drinks was difficult the whole night, so my friends and family weren't really sure why this was my favorite restaurant until they tasted the food! I have been going there for years and I will still be going just maybe not the best choice for a large group
Prime rib special - check it out
Had a wonderful time and great service. The night we went had a jazz singer, which was very nice. Between the special and half price martinis 4:30 to 6:00, it was a great evening.
Great resteurant. If you like jazz you will enjoy it because they have open jazz nights. Bar in the middle, people got a little rowdy. Had reservations in place, got seated quickly but wait for waiter and different foods was very long.
We're back here again!
Food is always good. Waiter forgot to put our escargot order in before main meal came. The manager deducted to appetizer which was nice. Wine list is good and even my wine connoiseur wife was pleased with the selection
Pete Miller's not so good service
I've been to Pete Miller's probably once a year for many years and this last experience was not very good. I'm not sure I can totally blame the server, but the service was very slow. No one asked how our food was after it was delivered to the table. No manager came by to ask us if everything was okay. Server disappeared after bringing us our meal for a good 30 minutes or more. Had to wait at least 20 minutes for coffees and more for the desert. It seemed maybe our server had way too many tables to take care of or the place was severely understaffed.
Very Nice Time
Our server was very nice and attentive which is always nice. The steaks were fantastic as was all addons. Thanks for an enjoyable evening.
A nice place to enjoy a fine meal.
I like that it is outside of downtown Chicago. The same classy dining experience in a more quaint setting.

Valentine's Day with the family. Always an excellent experience at Pete Miller's. Live jazz, fantastic service, gourmand cuisine and the perfect ambiance. Couldn't have been better!
Steak was burnt to a crisp, and very undercooked in the middle, overall just a bad steak unfortunately. I got the bone-in ribeye which i thought would be a hit considering it was in BOLD as the SIGNATURE dish for this place. Boy, that is unfortunate for them.
Generally Good, but not on this night
We like Pete Miller's. This was a bad night for them. They put out a special menu for Valentines Day that was disappointing on a number of fronts. First, many of the favorites were missing. Second, items on the special menu were sold out at 7:00 PM. Third, it felt as if they upped their typical pricing. Beyond the menu, my wife and I both ordered the special bone-in ribeye medium rare. Both steaks came out so rare, that the centers were actually cold to the touch. The server took both steaks back and brought them back medium well. It was a great cut of meat, but if you are going to force me into a special overpriced menu, get it right. Most disappointing is that the manager couldn't be bothered to comer by after 2 botched meals. The offer of 1 free dessert was appreciated by my children, but not enough. The server did his best, but a manager's attention would have been appropriate.

Traveled over 90 mins, 40 miles from western suburbs in the Snow. We were seated in the bar area with folding tables & chair. Could've stayed home and gone to local bar/pub with high-tops. No live music. Sea bass & garlic potatoes were good. Our waiter was very attentive. Unfortunately, was Not at all a romantic dinner. Truly disappointed.
Third time very disappointed
I think this is a great restaurant and I loved it the first and second time even though it is pricey. The last time was bad. The place was crowded, we sat at a table near a very cold entrance way. MUsic was too loud and our steaks were burnt on the outside and raw on the inside or burnt on the outside and very fatty. Not anywhere near the standard I expect . Prices were jacked up considerably that night (Valentine's night)
Good service and food generally good
The only complaint was the French onion soup with undercooked/crunchy onions.
High Expectations not Met
This was our second time at Pete Miller's. The first time was many years ago. This tells you that it is a place for special occasions. The prices on the menu will keep you from making this restaurant your "go to" place. My wife was very pleased with her entree. She had the seared tuna. Of course I tried some and it was quite good. The sauce was also quite good. It had a subtle kick to it that slowly snuck up on you. She also had the butternut squash puree from which she took one bite and that was it. It was though they added sugar - and a lot of it. She finished with the crepe with sauteed banana. The ice cream within the crepe was very light and very good. The crepe itself was just okay. And the bananas in a flambe sauce were unpleasant. I made the mistake of ordering the special - prime rib. It came with a salad, a side, and desert. From the choice of caesar or house, I chose the house. There was nothing special about the greens. The dressing was a creamy vinegarette and rather good. However, after the second bite I couldn't taste a thing - the fist full of red onions overpowered the salad. I hunted through the salad so that I could push the onions to the side. My side was garlic mashed potatoes. They were nicely whipped and just garlicy enough. The prime rib ruined the whole experience for me. If you call yourself a steakhouse and you charge those kind of prices, you had better damned well offer steaks that people can chew. I'm too programmed to be a nice person in a restaurant so I just suffered through - chewing and swallowing whole or chewing and spitting out - when I should have sent it back. For desert I chose the chocolate cheese cake. It was neither chocolaty nor cheesy. It had no flavor at all. Three bites and I pushed it away. It may take many more years before I return to Pete Miller's.

Went to celebrate a colleague's birthday. Excellent meal, great service and wonderful wine selection The valet parking is a bit costly for Evanston Overall great evening and would recommend to my friends and family
Great live music in Evanston
Pete Miller's is a great standard with live music and good food. We enjoyed a lively jazz band with a fabulous vocalist last Saturday. The service was solid as was the food. We had the calamari and a caeser salad as starter, both of which were very good. We had lamb chops and pork chops for our mains, which were nicely prepared and flavorful. The wine list has many options from good, reasonably priced reds and whites to very pricey vintages, if you so chose. If you want a fun night out apart from the usual fare, Pete's is the place.

I was disappointed this time. Check in slow, table service unprofessional, and steaks just ok. I think the restaurant is sacrificing their quality of food to support the live music. Recommend they return to their roots.
Killian was great- attentive and explained everything great even though you could tell he was really busy.
James Sanders was great on the violin!
James Sanders was great on the violin! I understand that he plays with the symphony as well as Latin bands.

We had a very good server, she was knowledgeable and helpful. The food was outstanding. A great steak house. It was a special night for the two, my attention was mostly focused on my date and everyone at Pete Miller's seemed to facilitate that. She had a great time and a great meal.
Jazz and Food - hard to beat
The steak was tender, juicy and well prepared. The waitress was helpful and friendly without being overly solicitous. But the thing that made the evening special was the wonderful music. Petra Van Nius and Andy Brown provided outstanding entertainment to enhance the dining. It would have been special even if the food had not been very good. As it happened, everything was perfect. We shall return to hear them again.
Outstanding Service; Food Not Up to Par
As usual our service was outstanding. Our waiter, Cory, was knowledgable about the wine list, the menu, the specials, and he was funny and provided great service. The medallion trio, which I order most of the time when we dine at PM's was very average. It was cooked well, medium rare as requested, but the flavored crusts/toppings that came on it seemed drenched in butter. I ended up scraping a lot of it off only to find cuts themselves were a lot thinner than usual. I was disappointed in the meal, which is a first at PM's. Hopefully, it was a one-night thing because we will definitely go back.
Not a very Happy New Year's Eve
Please note: my review might be very different for a usual evening. We went for New Year's Eve dinner and music. Of course the place was crowded and very noisy, but that's what you should expect on NYE. However, they seemed to be woefully unprepared for the occasion. Our waiter took our order promptly, but after that it was a chore to get service. At times he seemed to actually avoid us. I had to flag him down for everything: when we wanted some olive oil, another drink, the dessert menu, the check. He never once came by to check on us. The food was moderately priced ($30 for ala carte tuna steak, $9 for house salad) but even at reasonable prices it was a poor value. Tuna steak was OK but had so mush piquant sauce it was hard to taste how good or bad the fish itself was. Appetizer crab cake was oily and didn't have mush actual crab - mostly filler. Salad was mushy as if it had sat in the kitchen too long and had too much dressing. All told we had one appetizer, one main course, one salad, 2 glasses of wine and one beer. Bill before tax and tip was $95. Again, not at all unreasonable, but for the quality of the experience, it was too much to pay. We have been here before and split a big hamburger. That was much better.
