Peppercorn Grille Ratings and Reviews
Terrific service, tough steaks
Our waitress was very attentive and friendly, the atmosphere is nice, and the location is prime being right in the center of the village shops. However, we were surprisingly very disappointed. It was a special occasion and we wanted a nice dinner so we chose them because they were rated #1 on Trip Advisor and a friend recommended them. All three of us ordered the rib eye and each of ours was cooked as ordered but were rather thin steaks and very tough to even cut. For $30 each just for the dinner, not including drinks or dessert, we won't go back.
Our experience was wonderful, we plan on returning in the future. The food was EXCELENT! The atmosphere was great!
Nice but just "alright"
Filet mignon was very tender, rib eye, not so tender. Didn't care for the sauces, steaks needed flavor, added table salt (yuck), sautéed veggies were yummy.

Great little place! Only flaw - You have to make reservations, you can't just show up...always busy!!
Very nice meal.
Very nice meal.
My favorite place to dine.
If I was given the choice for my last meal it would be the Peppercorn crusted Flat Iron steak. By far the best piece of beef I have ever tasted, period!! Tender, delicious and perfectly cooked every time. I have had steaks costing 2-3 times as much that can't compare. Service has always been fantastic.
Best Restaurant in Big Bear?
If this is the best restaurant in big bear, we're going with fast food on our next visit. My wife's pizza was not what you'd expect for a brick oven pizza (thick, uncooked dough) and my spaghetti bolognese was a pound of spaghetti with chopped canned tomatoes and a ton of garlic - nothing close to a good bolognese.
Fine Dining in Big Bear
I have dined at some of the best restaurants in the world. I would say this restaurant is about as close to fine dining as you will get in Big Bear. It wouldn't be notable outside of Big Bear. The steak was flavored well, but not a great quality. The food options are interesting but nothing I haven't seen before. Everyone rants about the crab cakes and they were flavorful and refreshing, but not mind blowing.
Went to celebrate birthday . The food was absolutely delicious!!!!!!

Lovely ambience, location and good food. We had a long wait despite having made reservations a week prior.
Esmeralda, our server didn't bother with refills. After serving our plates, she didn't bother looking over our table. I sat for about 15 minutes without a tea until another lady asked if I needed a refill. After my refill was served by someone else, Esmeralda asked if we wanted to see a dessert menu. All the while, the table behind us, with a larger group had a server go over every 5-10 minutes to check on them.
We truly enjoyed our time there staff was great.
We had our 4 year anniversary here I had flowers delivered and the staff had it at our table my wife was so happy. The crew there is great. The food outstanding. The tables are great roomy.

Good food, on the pricey side. Waiter could've been a bit more attentive for the price of the meal.

Great dining experience
Peppercorn Grille is always a "must" when I go to Big Bear. It is a special treat. The service is always excellent. The wine selection is reasonable. The food is amazing. The peppercorn encrusted steak is pretty spicy but delicious.
Good food given the location
When doing to Big Bear it's mostly about the ski resort. Most people would just for simple / cheap food. Peppercorn is a bit up-scale and more expensive, but you do get better food and service. We had the special peppercorn pork chop and the nut crusted halibut. Both on the overcooked side but the sauce was good. Of course their clam chowder is something to die for, it's just very good. Again given the location, I think this is a great place to go.
Worst Service Ever
I came in with my partner for a romantic dinner at our reservation time 5:30 pm. We were then seated at 6 pm. Our server did not come to us to ask us for drinks or anything for about 10 minutes. About 30 minutes after taking our order, we finally got our salads. On the menu it clearly states that we get French bread, we never did. I personally asked my server three times for this bread while we waited for our entrees to come out. After about an hour after we ordered, we finally got our meal, which was just okay. Nothing to rave home about. I honestly believe that because of our age, our server did not take us seriously. I will never come back again.
Service was great ( Mike) good was excellent! 10 time to eat here, an it's still the best restaurant in Big Bear!!! Next trip go on line and make your reservation, you'll be glade you did! User friendly!
Wedding Anniversary Dinner
Pefect night to be out, cold, two feet of snow on the ground, great food, great service. We had a very nice dinner. ☺
Worth the wait
Overall, this is a strong 3 out of 5 stars. Reservations recommended during peak hours/weekends. It's crowded seating. The servers have to dodge each other constantly. Our waitress seemed tired. Lobster Ravioli and clam chowder was great. Capellini Pormodoro and Macadamia Nut Coated Halibut was average. We would definitely go back to give it a second try on a "not-so-busy" weekend. Maybe then we'd give it a definite 4 out of 5 stars.
Review of Peppercorn Grille
We enjoy coming to the Peppercorn Grille when we are in Big Bear and the convenience of making reservations on line. The good food and service make it a very enjoyable experience, and we always look forward to a special dinner at Peppercorn Grille.

Great food, and the service is always great!
This is an excellent restaurant. Each dish was superb, and some were surprisingly excellent. The artichoke hearts appetizer and the crusted salmon entry were both an experience. Highly recommend.
All time favorite!
We serious ply live Perrecorn Grill in Big Bear, CA. The entrees and specials are delicious and the quality of ingredients and recipes is very high. We plan to go Peppercorn as often as possible! You will not be disappointed!
We had to wait for our table even though we made a reservation as people were staying longer. But it was not problem as the staff was very polite and went ahead and opened our bottle of wine that we brought and we were able to sit at the small table in entrance and enjoy our wine while we waited. The service and food was excellent, as always. It was noisier than usual because there were several large groups being a Friday night.
Lots of Great Reviews because It was Very Good
I've been willing to try there and finally got a reservation at the right time. Make sure you got the reservation to avoid a long wait, even on a weekday evening near its closing time. I like the food for their taste and portion. The service was nice. I'd visit again on my next trip up there.
My boyfriend and I came here while we were up in Big Bear celebrating our three year dating anniversary. It was small and and cozy. Which was perfect because it was snowing outside. The food was really good, the drinks were tasty and different than you'd find anywhere else. They had a great wine list although I did not partake. The service was very friendly and very professional. My only tip is: If you're making a reservation ask for a booth. We did and we had a nice cozy booth, but the tables looked like they wouldn't have been as comfortable.
Eat at Peppercorn
Even though it was Thanksgiving the service was excellent, prompt and courteous. The food was delicious. We had a traditional Thanksgiving dinner and everything was hot, cooked just right and delicious!
Peppercorn Grille is excellent!
We go to the Peppercorn Grille for all of our special occasions. The staff are very professional and friendly. The food is delicious, and the drinks are yummy! The atmosphere is fantastic! It is in the Big Bear Village, so for any visitors, it is close to shopping, very convenient.
Delicious food and great service.
My husband and I were in Big Bear for a weekend getaway. We're from the San Diego area and very particular when it comes to good food and service. Due to the great reviews, we decided to eat at Peppercorn. We were not disappointed! My husband and i had the Surf and Turf, it was absolutely delicious! The lobster was cooked perfectly and the steak melted in your mouth. We finished with the cream burl, which was very tasty as well. The staff was great and our server was very knowledgeable and attentive. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and will eat there again when we are up in the area.
Wednesday night crowd
We had reservations, but still had to wait 20 minutes to be seated on a Wednesday night. This was due to the fact that every table was full and there were several folks waiting. The weekday crowd is an example just how good the food is. Reservations are a must for this place, and you need to make them a few days in advance.
Best restaurant in Big Bear
Excellent food, excellent service at a good price, what more can you ask for? Peppercorn is the best place to eat in Big Bear, very good selection of food (Never had anything that wasn't outstanding) and very friendly service. As you might expect it is very popular, so make reservations, or expect long waits....
The pros were great service, atmosphere, and staff The cons were I had a 35 $ steak that was half grissel and the steak right on top of mash potatoes, so that each bite was steak and mash potato.. I would order something else besides the steak!
Wonderful experience from start to finish. Great location in The Village of Big Bear Lake. Fantastic host and wait staff, delicious food, nice wine list, and lovely ambiance. Worth every penny. Outdoor patio is heated and dog-friendly. Highly recommend reservations, especially on weekends.
Great choice in the mountains
We have eaten here several times and been pleased. The food is very good as is the service. I recommend asking the servers for advice as there are homemade specialties which should certainly be considered. If you like spicy - peppery try the flat iron steak full of flavor!
Second time there.......
And will go back there every October when we do our annual trip to Big Bear. The food and service is awesome. Would recommend this to everyone. By the way, the owner is opening a new restaurant in Big Bear next year.
Best when main Chef is working
We go to the Peppercorn each time we come up to Big Bear. Until now never anything but a great meal. This time the cook ( as chef is not appropriate) was the 3rd string as the main chef and second chef was not there. The food tasted very poor as it was on par with what you would get a Denney's. Next time I make a reservation I will make sure the main chef is working. Without asking they took 25% off and also provided a coupon for 25% off on our next visit, and there will be a next visit as we really like the Peppercorn...Just not so much this time.
A Favorite in Big Bear!
This is by far, the best restaurant in Big Bear! The food quality is consistent, always delicious and the service is outstanding. The Peanut Butter Cheesecake is amazing and although I rarely have dessert, I always splurge on this treat. The restaurant is very popular and always busy, so reservations are recommended.
Unexpected fine dining at Big Bear Lake
It is a small quaint restaurant located in The Village with tablecloths, ambiance, and excellent food. Our server made us feel like valued customers. The one negative comment I wish to make is when I am experiencing such a fine dining experience, I also expect the silverware to be of similar quality. The owner needs to upgrade the silverware to match the dining. The utensils reminded me of Dennys and I am sure that is not the owner's intention. That being said, when back in the Big Bear Lake area, we will eagerly choose to eat one of our dinners at this restaurant.
