Parkway Grill Ratings and Reviews
Wonderful Friday evening at Parkway
last Friday enjoyed Parkway fixed price menu dinner. As usual both the food and the ambiance were excellent. Prior to the dinner we also enjoyed a livable conversation with our favorite bartender Nass Castillo. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Perfect restaurant for date
I had been to Parkway Grill long time ago. I couldn't remember how the restaurant was, but just remember the food was good. I saw Pasadena Restaurant Week was available, so I locked down my husband to take me out for a date night. We were not disappointed. Food was amazing. The waiter was very familiar with the menu and the specials. We ordered one set menu for $45 with appetizer, entree and dessert and one regular price appetizer and the special entree. The promotional set menu was honestly the best deal, because the special entree costs as much as the set menu. However, the Chilian sea bass which just melts in the mouth is definitely worth the price.
Really enjoyed the meal but especially appreciated the waiter. He was attentive without being annoying. The food was as good as usual and my guest seemed to find the ambiance above average.
The most reliable of all restaurants
The Parkway has never let us down. It's a "neighborhood" restaurant because it's been there for probably 40 years and we've gone there whenever we can get a reservation. The food is wonderful, the drinks are good, the ambience has always been wonderful. The place is so reliable!
We have enjoyed dinners here, nice atmosphere
Great food and service. Enjoy special dinners with friends/family.
Parkway continues to be the best restaurant in the San Gabriel Valley. It has become very, very expensive, however.
Parkway Grill is idling
Understand that Parkway Grill has been for years our go to spot for special occasion fine dining. This evening the service and the staff were up to our usual high expectations. Our seating while beautiful was unfortunately marred by a loud, slightly unruly table with children. (This is highly unusual for this restaurant) We, being parents, were understanding and did not allow this to dampen our enthusiasm. The house Chardonnay, while different from our last visit was very good. The bread as always, a fine inducement to our taste buds. We ignored the usually great appetizers because we had indulged a bit before leaving home and simply started with the Caesar salad. Simple and elegant, but not special. Our entrees were the Duck and Sea Bass. The sides and vegetables were great. The fresh vegetables from their very own garden were crisp and delicious. The black rice, a flavor sensation. However both proteins were ... BLAND...sorry there is no other way to put it. Some parts of the duck were tough and the bass tasteless. Highly unexpected and worrisome. But undeterred, we saved the evening with our usual desert of Creme Brule Napolean and decaf Caps. It is next to impossible to have a bad time at Parkway Grill and we did not, but the Chef needs to take notice and step up his or her game.

Exquisite dining experience
The service was great, the food beautifully presented and the ambiance perfect. It is almost impossible to find such a combination qualities in restaurants these days. Parkway Grill is an absolute treasure.

Went with friends who saw the white fish on the menu. Since he has fond memories of eating this from his childhood, he ordered the entree. Much to his delight, the fish was as good as he had remembered it and also sang the praises to the bartender and his fabulous vesper. Wonderful evening and ambiance after a day at the Pasadena Showcase House of Design.
Fine dining in Pasadena
My wife and I went to the Parkway Grill for dinner after spending the day at the Huntington. The good reviews I read beforehand were accurate. We had delicious cocktails first: a kir royale type and a chocolate martini type drink. My wife had rack of lamb and she said it tasted great with a good sauce. I had the whole ginger fried catfish and it was a unique and tasty dish with the ponzu sauce.
Great restaurant for a special occasion lunch.
This was my second visit for lunch. Both times we had great service and enjoyed the comfortable atmosphere. On this visit we all had salads, which were refreshing and tasty. On both visits everyone enjoyed the delicious bread basket. Also, a nice selection of wine.
Parkway Grill Has It All
A great little bar for a cocktail before dinner with piano bass duet sets the vibe. Mid-century updated dining area with lively, service oriented staff that keeps you well cared for. No rush, it was a fabulous evening out! Interesting menu, ten page wine list. You can't go wrong here ...

our server was great. The food was very good. We were able to enjoy our visit without having the food thrown at us or feeling rushed.
Old Pasadena charm with an up to date menu.
This is the place to relax and enjoy. Great bar, great food & always great service. We drive 45 minutes to dine here several times a year.
Jazz on Fridays
Besides great food, don't miss hearing David Arnay play on Friday evenings. Really fantastic!
Had a last minute get together with friends. Bar staff was outstanding. Very patient with my date who asked many questions. Appetizers were delicious (oysters). Waiter was very attentive to my wine requests. Over all great experience.
The Parkway is a place you can count on every time. The food is always solid; the specials are usually interesting; the service is consistently good without being intrusive. The wine selection is good without being overpriced. The only negative I would mention is that the noise level can get pretty high at lunch.

Parkway on Easter
Easter brunch was very good and the ambiance was so nice. The menu was limited though and would have preferred a specialty drink for the occasion.
It's sad that the Parkway Grill has gone downhill
Having been to the Parkway Grill a number of times since moving to Pasadena seven years ago and with great experiences during each visit, I was excited to see that they were serving Easter brunch so that I could share it with friend visiting from Boston. This trip really let me down. To start, the hostess who greated us needs to take some lessons in hospitality. She was downright rude. Second, it was obvious the servers were rushing us out. This is not the type of restaurant where you should be in and or in less than 1 hour. Finally, the food was not well cooked-- eggs I the Benedict were overlooked and the Huevos Rancheros were bland. My guess is that Parkway should not serve brunch, since it was clear that none of the staff wanted to be there. I've seen so much better from the Parkway Grill and this experience will likely be my last visit there. It's way too expensive to not be good. (By the way, the owners are the same as the Arroyo Chop House next door; go there for a much better experience, at least as of my last visit in January.)
Family Get together!
Perfect setting for a family get together and celebration, with excellent cuisine and ambiance adding to the icing on the cake. A word of thanks to your professional and friendly staff who also highly contributed to our lovely evening at Parkway Grill.

Has been a long time special occasion restaurant. However, with our most recent visit we were very put off. The value just isn't there. Overpriced for the quality, food undercooked, just not worth it. So many other excellent choices--don't know when we'd ever go back,

Delightful and educational
Since this is one of our favorite Pasadena restaurants, it wasn't unusual I there a few nights ago. My wife and I were coming from different directions, and I was early, by half an hour, thinking I'd rather be enjoying a glass of wine at Parkway than doing anything else. Having recently seen the movie The Somm, I asked the server to send over the sommelier. Rob appeared shortly looking every bit the part, smartly dressed in suit and tie. I explained I was interested in knowing more about tasting wine and would appreciate anything he could share with me. He seemed delighted to help, and after chatting a bit, he suggested we do a blind tasting of either a red or a white. I chose red since I knew we were going to be splitting the petite filet. The server soon brought a glass of red and said she had been told to say nothing about the wine. I looked at the wine. It looked like red wine, maybe a little redder than grape juice, but definitely purple. I smelled the wine. It smelled like wine, and maybe a little bit like some sort of fruit jam. I tasted the wine. It tasted like wine, a nice wine, not too sweet, not too dry, not too heavy, not too light, fruit jam at first and then kind of a drying out taste. Rob came by and checked on my progress, telling me I was definitely on the right track. He carefully went over each of my observations, showing me how best to see the color, swirling the glass and showing me the legs, of which there were two sets separated by several seconds, and guiding me through the actual tasting. So what did I think it was, given all of the above? It tasted kind of like a merlot and kind of like a cab. I guessed a cab from California based on the fruit flavor. My wife arrived, took one sip, and said it wasn't a cab; it was a merlot. "Well," said Rob, "I didn't want to make it too easy for you. It's a bordeaux blend from Napa, 43% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Petit Verdot, 7% Malbec, 5% Cabernet Franc." Great fun!
Parkway grill has been a local gem for years and never fails. The service is great, the restaurant is old style lovely and the food is fresh and tasty. A great place to spend a birthday or to just treat yourself.

Our waiter was short with us from the moment we sat down. Our seats were practically on top of the couple next to us. If it hadn't been for our sense of humor, the night could have easily killed our date night vibe.
Good experience at Parkway Grill
Our party enjoyed the appetizers (tuna tartare and stuffed dates) and the desserts (cheesecake and chocolate hazelnut 'cake'). The meat main courses (chicken and short rib), while basically tasty and well-prepared, were quite heavy with a large amount of sauce--not much elegance here. The fish entrees (whitefish) were somewhat simpler and more effective, although the risotto was again heavier than it would have needed to have been. This restaurant is, perhaps, a reflection of an older style of composition and presentation.
A Reliable Friend
Been here many times over 30 years. Never a bad experience. Food. Service. Ambience. Exquisite!
A little pricey but worth it
Wonderful ambiance and generally quiet dining as well as very good food make the Parkway Grill an outstanding special occasion restaurant. The touch of tips only valet parking completes the general atmosphere of a rare gracious place to dine, rather than just eat.
Wonderful spot for a special luncheon
This was perfect for my lady friends. Great Cosmos and excellent food. We were able to have a quiet table where we could easily converse. Atmosphere was perfect, plus the food and service are consistently excellent.
Excellent food & beautiful restaurant
We would patronize this restaurant more often if we didn't live in NJ. This was our second visit and we were very pleased. I had a cup of black bean soup and my husband had the night's special soup, roasted tomato, to start. Each one was very flavorful. Well seasoned. He had lamb chops which were accompanied by mashed roasted potatoes and some green vegetables. I had a filet cooked to med-rare perfection , with a veal reduction & mushrooms on top. Delicious. Can't wait until our next trip to go back.
This was our second time dining at this restaurant and the flavor did not disappoint anyone that night. We will have lunch or dinner again.

For the menu items available I found the restaurant to be a bit pricey as compared to other similar locations. Also around 8:00 in the evening the restaurant was very loud to me. Not some place you want to go for a semi quiet dinner.
We celbrated Margaret's Birthday at the Parkway Grill. The food was fantastic as was the service. To top it off they gave Margaret a scrumptious cupcake and some flowers too! Love the Parkway Grill's reasonable prices, great service, and nice ambiance.
It's back again - had ups and downs over the years, but now the items on the menu are better prepared and service is smoother.
Great, quiet spot for a business lunch with excellent food and service. Can't say enough good things about Parkway Grill except that I wish it was closer to my home.
A wonderful first experience
This restaurant was everything I was looking for in the neighborhood. Upscale, delicious food, great variety from which to choose, outstanding service, quiet, cool and comfortable. A 10! I look forward to dining here again.
