Palm Restaurant - Los Angeles - Downtown Ratings and Reviews

The Palm delivers a consistent experience across the country - though some venues feel more intimate than others. The Los Angeles Palm is not so intimate, but service is excellent. As always, the food is well prepared and the portions are immense. A great place to split an entrée! I forgot that detail and we ended up only being able to eat a third of our meal.
the palm is always a sure thing for amazing food and service and this location was no exception!

First time at Palm, and also our last time. Too pricey for just ok food. Didn't even acknowledge the special birthday we were celebrating. Steaks and salmon were average; crab cakes were inedible. I don't understand all the good reviews.
Good food, but waaay overpriced
I ordered a bone-in filet, which cost almost $60.00. It came with NOTHING except bread for the table, and a glass of water. I understand this is an historic dining establishment, and it's very close to the Microsoft Theater/Staples....but still...$60.00 should bring me a little something of a side - veggies? a potato? I did order a side salad ($10) and a desert ($11) and two drinks ($25 total) so I did not go away hungry. Just disappointed with the dollar to food value. With tax and tip, my dinner came to a total of approximately $130. (yes...just for me, one little teeny me). To be fair, I did look at the menu ahead of time and knew it would be pricey. But I thought the steak would come with something...
We came to the Palm for a birthday celebration before seeing a show at the Microsoft Theater. The service was superb. We had a reservation and were seated immediately upon arrival. Our server was fantastic - just the right amount of playful banter for our group. We had a wide variety of food choices but those who ordered steak agreed it was some of the best they had ever had. Overall, a great way to spend a birthday!
I had heard quite a few good things about the palm and knew it was a historic LA steakhouse. Sadly, the steak disappointed. Out of a group of 7, 5 of us got steaks that were ordered medium but came medium well. The drinks were well made but that was it. Our server also got two orders wrong.

Service was the worst it took 25min to get our drinks. We order our food and they brought our appetizers and salad at the same the same. Steak was very tough. I was very disappointed.
Always a great experience
Took a big group here before Kobe Bryant's last game. Food, service and overall energy was great. Just a fantastic night of food, fun, and friendship. Great service too.

Shared the large steak for 2 and a 5 lb lobster with a friend. It ranked for both of us as one of the best meals we've ever had. Everything from the appetizer (mozzarella and tomato) to the side dishes (au grautin potatoes and asparagus) to the main course was simply delicious!!! It's expensive but well worth it for a special occasion.

GREAT for Staples Center events
6pm reservations for a 7:30pm event at Staples and we were EARLY ! Make sure to let your waiter know but they have a very efficient manner of serving OUTSTANDING steaks and lobster and Caesar salad!
Non-descript, over-priced food. I ate at Smeraldi's at the Biltmore the next day for lunch, and they had better sea bass on their BUFFET than we paid $40 for at Palm. Palm's Spinach and potatoes were nothing special and missing any discernable flavor. SO disappointed with the pricey experience.
I would highly recommend this restaurant for dinner before a show or event at the Staples Center. Very convenient and easy to park. Food is always fantastic and service is great~
Service was a little spotty - for the prices they charge, it should be flawless. The fries were a bit cold and the brussel sprouts were just ok. But I will say the double lamb chops were perfectly cooked and a nice portion!

We sat in the bar and had appetizers and drinks before a show. The food we had (Caprese salad and shrimp cocktail) were very good, although they could have given us more than 4 shrimp for $22. Cocktails very tasty. Server, Daniel, was excellent!
Great restaurant before a Staples Center game.
Good fun. Fun atmosphere. Kind of heavy before sitting at a sporting event. I loved the caricatures throughout.
Perfect location for LA Live event
The Palm Downtown LA is located directly across the street from the LA Live venues. The restaurant valet will allow you to park for any event as long as you return by 10:30pm. The Palm was slammed on Saturday night because of two large capacity events at LA Live. Service was excellent, understandably the kitchen was a little slow, but not that big of a deal. Cocktails were excellent, no short pours, shrimp cocktail was excellent (you may order extra shrimps beyond the 4 per order. We split one order of 6). The prime ribeye was cooked perfectly and one bone-in was easy to split. The potatoes au'grautin were excellent, I've not had them here before and you have the option of a smaller portion which is easy to split. The only thing that separates The Palm (steaks) from Fleming's across the street is the seasoning. The Palm steak is just a tad bland and that rests on the shoulder of the kitchen. Therefore I prefer Fleming's ONLY because of their seasoning. Regardless, The Palm Downtown LA slings great food and is a great pre/post event dining option.

Restaurant did not show we had a reservation thru Open Table. We were 1 of 3 reservations as of 5:30p that night where Open Table had not communicated with The Palms. Restaurant was very helpful and was able to accommodate us.
not the Palm's best night
our group has eaten here many times. the reason we keep coming back is that the food is consistently good. well, this was a bad night in the kitchen. there were five of us. Two steaks were overcooked, and one steak for two people was way undercooked. Needless to say it put a damper on the mood of the evening. we will be looking for another downtown dinners spot.

We have been to The Palm a few times since it has opened in Los Angeles. It had become out go to place for family birthdays. Our last visit on Friday March 5, 2016 was the worst and possibly our last visit there. Our waiter Ryan R 866 was not attentive. We were never offered bread, when our food came out it was dropped off and he walked away and never returned. He was short and not friendly at all. The restaurant was not crowded and there was no reason for him to be that rude.
Dinner before Kings game
Went to the Palms for dinner before a LA Kings Game. Great location, just across the street from the Staples Center, a 5 minute walk. Food was great, the service was even better. Fast friendly service from our waitress. Would go there again before a game or just for dinner.
old school steak house
good steak and good service; service was good, but waitress tried up selling everything
Always a great experience
You always know what to expect, the décor is great, the service is top notch and the food is always delicious. We informed our waiter that we were in no rush, we had a babysitter, wanted to make the most of our evening and he obliged. He didn't rush us, took our drink order, waited for our appetizer choices, we ordered our mains after we finished our appetizers. It was a great evening overall and a lot had to do with the experience our waiter created. Thank you Oscar!
Much improved! Try The Palm again.
We began dining at The Palm decades ago and it was wonderful. Several years ago, the quality seemed to drop off - both in service and food quality and taste. We tried it again last Friday, and it was like a new place. Each food item was delicious, prepared perfectly and beautiful. Service was impeccable. We will return more often now. If you haven't been recently, you need to give The Palm another shot - they've done a 180 degree turn-around.
Outstanding Sea Bass
We had a lovely dinner the other night while in LA on business. My wife and I both had sea bass, and it was simply delicious. The service was attentive and got everything accurate. We could not have been happier.
Dining at the Palms Los Angeles
We were a table of 4 and thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience. The waitress was very knowledgeable about the restaurant's history and other location. This conveyed a dedication to her job. The food was excellent. Chilean Sea Bass was delicious as were the steaks. Raves to the au gratin potatoes!
My son and I went to the Palm Restaurant for a nice mother/son get together...we were not impressed. The calamari was overdone, the oysters were suspect (we returned them and they did not charge us) and the service was very slow although they did not seem terribly busy. The waiter (bless his heart) was trying, he knocked over our Pelligrino bottle and brought us another one...but charged us for it. I was expecting amazing cuisine and ambiance and was disappointed in the quality of the food preparation.
Birthday Celebration for Daughter
We came at 11:30 am to celebrate my daughter's birthday. Perfect time to come; it was quiet, not many people and the service was great.
Just ok.. Service not great
Our waiter was absolutely awful. Never refilled drinks, greatly undercooked our steak and when it was returned it was charred on the outside and he never made his way back to ask how it was or if it was up to par. Waited ages for our check. Food was just OK, Flemings is 10x better and you're paying the same amount.
The Palm-Always a Pleasure
A classic situated just across the street from Staples Center. As always, fast and efficient service by knowledgeable waiters, solid drinks and great veal. The Palm never changes and hopefully, never will.

The lobster is always the way to go, but this time I was here for the tomahawk ribeye...it was tasty but not as tender as I was expecting. We also had the crab cakes which I think are my favorite.

Calimari was very disappointing. A medium filet came out well done. We had notified our waiter that we were in a hurry to get to clipper game but we had to wait way too long to tell him to get us another filet. Overall experience was sub-standard for The Palm.

Had lunch with clients today at this restaurant. Have been to this location many times for drinks, lunch or dinner and have always found it to be a reliable option for entertaining in downtown. Apparently that is no longer the case. Steak was overdone, service was slow and for the most non existent. Waiter never returned to ask if we would like desert or coffee following the meal and we had to flag him down after waiting 20 minutes for the check. Based upon the number of empty tables today my experience was not unique. Time to find a new standby as the Palm is no longer up to the task.
