Well kept secret

vip
Dined 6 days ago

This restaurant is not well known up and down the beaches, but it's a gem. Fairly priced fine dining with ample portions, creatively prepared with very fresh ingredients. Server (Jason) was very knowledgeable about the details of each dish and we went with his recommendations for two seafood dishes. They exceeded expectations.

Disappointing this time around

Dined on April 23, 2016

I normally like Ocean 60 and frequent the restaurant or bar every couple of months. This time was fairly disappointing however. They have a lovely outdoor area for dining and I had requested it on our reservation. When we got to the restaurant we were told there was a private party in the dining room (and accompanying outside area) and were directed to sit outside the front door next to the foot traffic of the busy area. Not at all what we expected, but we rolled with it. We ordered the escargot bruschetta and was presented with a soupy pile of mushrooms and escargot with ONE toasted crostini. While delicious, again not what was expected. The main meals were presented beautifully and the beef and fish were perfect. The vegetables on the side were over salted (as was stated in my last review). I put salt on everything and they were still too salty to eat. The final takeaway is that it was fine for the evening, but not what was expected. I would have liked the heads up on the seating situation. I don't think I would feel comfortable ensuring them with a special occasion meal, but for the occasional night out on the way to someplace else it would do.

This was our first experience with Ocean 60.

Dined on April 23, 2016

The food was very good. The Calamari was the best I have ever had. BUT it was very noisy! Then there was a live band. We could not hear the person next to us talk. It was AWFUL! Ruined the evening! We were with friends that we had not seen a several months and wanted to catch up on each other's lives, but we were unable to do so! Why do restaurants allow bands to play so loud? I did not want to go to a concert that night. I chose to eat dinner with some friends and have good conversation. Instead I was forced to endure the music and we finally gave up and left the restaurant. Unfortunately, no matter how good the food was, we will not go back. The restaurant needs to remember that they serve food first and foremost and should provide an atmosphere for dining pleasure.

I love everything but the noise level

Dined on April 10, 2016

Ocean 60 is genuinely one of my favorite restaurants when it comes to food and service, but the volume is so loud that I don't go as often as I'd like to. Seriously loud - my ears were ringing for 30 minutes afterwards. But, the house salad is one of my all-time favorites with fresh greens, shaved Parmesan, raisins, crispy noodles and a light citrus vinaigrette. My husband's chopping was outstanding, as was my Latin-style loin of pork with plantain-potato hash, a Demi glaze and chimmichuri sauce. There's a fun selection of martinis and seasonal cocktails, beers from Engine Company 15 on tap, and a really nice wine list.

Where's the Sea Bass?

vip
Dined on April 4, 2016

Something is missing compared to the Ocean 60 of the past, but it is hard to identify. The menu no longer includes sea bass and the remaining choices aren't as diverse as previously. Service and food were certainly adequate, but everything seemed just a notch below the levels of the past. I would still recommend the place and the food. I heartily commend this establishment for including the Happy Hour offerings and prices at the dining tables as well as at the bar.

Excellent as usual

Dined on March 20, 2016

The menu has staples and new things to try....whatever the fish special is (unless salmon personally) is a must. The servers are always attentive and friendly. My table was ready at reservation time, no waiting even though it was a busy Sat night. The noise from the bar side was a bit overwhelming...I wish they would close the windows between the dining and bar sides just to dampen it a bit - you can still clearly hear the music and bar din, but might have an easier time talking. Scallop app, shrimp and goat cheese dip app, flounder special, hang ten martini x 2. My husband and MIL enjoyed their entrees and drinks as well.

Dined on March 3, 2016

I was there for Christmas Eve and had a great experience, so I wanted to check it our on a "regular" night. Fantastic! Great choices, great server, Dana, who was friendly and accommodating. We've decided to add this restaurant as one of our "go to" dining locations when visitors come to town. Thanks, and see you again, soon!

Wonderful dinners. The lobster bisque was perfect on a cool evening. The Beach Bake which consisted of scallops, shrimp, crab and lobster was superb. Of course, having $5.00 cosmos for happy hour was the best!

A great neighborhood choice for food and drinks

Dined on February 17, 2016

We are part time (working toward full time) Atl Bch residents and have hit all the restaurants and taverns over the last 10 years, except Ocean 60. For some reason I suddenly can't recall, we always pictured it as being a bit too upscale for the AB/NB corner. We finally tried it this past weekend and it was great. The food was excellent, the martinis are at least as good as everyone says. Scott, our Server, was great which made it a totally enjoyable experience.

Dined on February 7, 2016

The food was outstanding! I had the 60s Beach Bake, which was baked cod with a lobster topping, veggies, & potatoes. My wife had the pan seared salmon, with mashed potatoes. Or server, Kelsey, was great! She was very attentive to our needs. We both had the flourless chocolate cake for dessert, which was awesome! The only criticism I have is that it was very loud in the restaurant. It was very difficult at times to hear each other talking. It doesn't make it ideal for a romantic dinner. We would definitely eat here again, though, based on the food & service we received.

The drinks were fantastic and the food was fresh and delicious. We will be back soon. Thanks, Steve Tucker Jacksonville, Florida

First visit. I expressed concern upon arriving that the happy hour times had changed, but their website had not. The hostess relayed this info to the manager and he immediately came to our table to address it and honored the time frame. We really appreciated them addressing our concern right away. It turned a negative in to a positive right away. Service and food was very good.

Always a Favorite

Dined on January 21, 2016

Our only complaint about Ocean 60 is that it's not a bit closer to home. The menu is so varied that it's tough to choose. We usually end up sharing small plates so that we can sample several things. The happy hour specials, combined with the bar bites result in a value that's tough to beat.

Like CHEERS but with Great Food!

Dined on January 11, 2016

Ocean 60 is a GREAT bar with fantastic food excellent service and 0n certain nights, live music. There is a separate dining room but eat in the bar...there's way more ambiance and it's more fun. Lots of drink and Martini specials before dinner too! Did I mention the food? Think you don't like Meatloaf? Try theirs... wonderful! (Your Mom should have had their recipe). Local flounder and shrimp over parmesan risotto ... Mouthwatering. We come as often as we get to Atlantic Beach and have never had a bad meal or bad experience. Make a reservation.... there's a reason this place gets crowded!

Everything is perfect, except the acoustics

Dined on January 3, 2016

The food, the service, the cocktails, the wine - you simply can't go wrong with any choice at Ocean 60. It's single flaw, in my opinion, is the absolutely awful acoustics, especially in the dining room with the smaller bar. The tables closest to the windows are the worst place to sit - all the sound in the room us focused there, and your ears will ring for days. But, in spite of that very serious drawback, the food is so consistently delightful, and the service perfectly spot on, that I return again and again.

New Year's Eve @ Ocean 60 was Fabulous!

Dined on January 1, 2016

Our family of 4 adults celebrated New Year's Eve at Ocean 60. Being from out of state, we were not familiar with restaurants in the area, so we depended on Trip Advisor to help make our decision. We were not disappointed. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The Hostess kept us informed of when our table would be ready and even though we had reservations, it was New Years's Eve which we understood that sometimes patrons do not want to eat in a hurry on special occasions. Even so, the staff ensured our needs were met and our wait was very short. Our waitstaff was exceptional and very professional. She was very attentive. Management checked on our table to ensure we were pleased and was very genuine Since it was New Year's Eve, Ocean 60 had a special menu for the occasion with a set price which is very common and expected. The Chef 's meal was divine! The Velvety Corn & Crab Bisque was smooth & very tasty. Two of us selected the Petite Filet Al Forno which melted in our mouths and the others selected the Fresh Catch & Lobster Mornoy which they described as one of the best they had ever tasted. For dessert, you cannot go wrong with the Tiramisu. The mixed drinks from the bar were wonderful and the Bartender was very pleasant. Since it was New Year's Eve it was very crowded and busy which is what we expected. Ocean 60 had live music, free champagne & a sample appetizer, hats and such to celebrate the bringing in of the New Year. We enjoyed the ambience of the restaurant and would definitely go back for an evening meal. Parking could be a problem on weekends or holidays, so if you have reservations leave early. They do not have valet parking, but there is valet parking for $15.00 in the area. Suggest you call the restaurant for valet info and directions. Ocean 60 is definitely a gem and a place to go if you want to enjoy your meal and time with others. We certainly did!

Ocean 60 lives up to its rep

Dined on December 30, 2015

Dined last night at Ocean 60 for the first time and have now found two Jacksonville area restaurants we would go back to any day. I started with a German warm spinach salad, Fresh wilted spinach with diced potatoes, hard boiled eggs & crispy bacon tossed with a warm bacon vinaigrette and smoked gouda...quite tasty. My entre was the fresh cpbia with a jasmine rice. My wife had the New England Bake, Atlantic cod topped with a lobster, crab & bay scallop gratin served over crushed new potatoes with sweet corn coulis and seasonal vegetables..surprisingly rich and flavorful. Topped it all off with warm bread pudding in a delectable berry sauce. Service was excellent, waiter was always timely as were the meals. The noise level rose to a moderate to high level when tables were all filled, but that just indicated how much people enjoy this Atlantic Beach neighborhood gem.

I was looking for a fine dining restaurant. The menu looked like fine dining food and the prices were up there with this type of restaurant. The web site made it look upscale. However, upon arrival I found it to be another beach restaurant with diners in shorts and casual attire. the food was excellent. However, it was not what I was expecting or looking for that evening.
