Morton's The Steakhouse - Houston - Downtown Ratings and Reviews
Great lunch spot -Administrative Professionals Day
Our group of 7 had a wonderful luncheon to celebrate the Administrative Professionals in our office. Our table was ready on time and the service was very attentive. My staff really felt special, and the food was delicious. This isn't a "gourmet" spot but rather a perfect place for a good piece of meat in a little more fancy surroundings. They do all of the classics really well, and that's fine when you have a very diverse group of people to please. I will come back!
Excellent for Lunch
Good location for downtown business lunch! Prompt service to accommodate the business people. Very good choices for lunch.
Great dining option when downtown
I have been in Houston on a contract for two months, this has become a go to when ready to have a good meal. The wedge salad is amazing, as the onion soup. Enjoyed the steak and lobster special and it was great, not huge portion but a very fair price and combined with soup or salad absolutely the right amount. This Morton's is better than others I have been to. Their happy hour menu is wonderful if looking for a great snack or with friends or coworkers who want to sample the many selections.
Pricey, But Worth It
Fabulous meal. Porterhouse for Two was $117 but a beautiful cut of beef. Paired with Sauteed Brussels Sprouts and Lyonnaise Potatoes as sides was a perfectly sized meal - with the leftovers it fed two people for two more meals as well! Enjoyed the Carrot Cake for dessert, and with a bottle of wine the bill came to over $300 with gratuity. A wonderful place for a romantic celebration as long as your budget can allow it...
Excellent food and service as always.
Super! Service was excellent and the food great. Exceptional all round.
Morton's exceeded expectations
Morton's really tried to make sure that my wife and I were enjoying our night. The service was great and even took pictures for us to capture the night.
I tend to be a service snob rather than a food snob. Of primary importance to me is the place setting being done correctly. "Would you recommend Morton's The Steakhouse - Houston - Downtown to a friend?" I checked yes because the food is indeed good; however, the place setting was not done correctly. Additionally, the waitress was bold enough to change my place setting after I corrected it. This, in turn, reduced my tip to the minimum I give at such locales: 10%.

Service was extremely slow ...2 hours... Steaks were very rare. Other friends said the same thing. They had $200 taken off bill. We had apps and dessert removed. Not a great experience.

A convenient location for an expense account lunch. Waiters need to focus on getting the bill promptly so patrons can leave when pressed for time.
Food, ambience, everything was amazing. I could not fault a thing.

Last time I wen there I left a bit unsatisfied with the service as I thought the server was full of himself and it was not good value for me... I was reluctant to return but tried it again on Friday and was quite pleased. Excellent service, excellent food, easy to book on-line and an excellent environment for good conversation.

Valentine Date Night
Visited for Valentine's dinner. Although it was a busy night, we still were seated within a few minutes of our reservation time. Food was excellent. Not too noisy. Pace between courses was timed perfect. Would definitely dine there again.

steaks were cooked well and tasted good. sides were nothing special. it was a busy holiday weekend so service wasn't superb but our waiter tried his best. did not care for the tiny table top that spun when trying to cut my steak. needless to say while it wasn't the worst experience I've had for the price I paid I would have picked somewhere else if I had to do the night over.
My wife and I left our home in spring cause everyone said the downtown Mortons was the best. They were absolutely wrong !! My steak was under cooked then returned over cooked almost charcol. We saw the manager apologize to a customer about a gift card mixup but not once came and asked how was our meal . Frederico our waited and the dessert were the 2 best things about that night.
Our waiter seemed uninterested the whole time. Steak was ok but I feel like I got a bad cut since it was about 20% fat ($58). I don't think we'll be back.
Usually good, but not this time
I enjoy dining here for lunch. However, it seems that they were not ready for a crowd on the first day of NAPE. Food was ok, service was dismal. Missing items from the order, never saw our server after the order was placed. Late check.
Disappointed in the hash browns
I bragged to my girlfriends how delicious Morton's hash browns are...last night we had a 8:45 p.m. Reservation. When we arrived there were two people dining. We thought for sure everything would be perfect since the restaurant was empty! There were three of us - we each ordered a steak and one side item. I ordered the hash browns since it was the reason we chose Morton'. The hash browns were not crispy - instead they just feel apart when the fork touched them! So disappointed! Had my boy been there he would have sent them back!
My husband and I visited for our anniversary. I made last minute reservations and they had us set up in a very nice corner booth with anniversary menus whenever we arrived! The food was amazing, both the steaks and the Au Gratin potatoes. Our waiter was stupendous and even took a complimentary photo for our special occasion. We ordered the New York cheesecake for dessert, which came with caramelized sugar and was out of this world!! After enjoying every minute, we were informed that the dessert was on the house! I will recommend to anyone wanting an out of this world meal with excellent service!
Extraordinary Food and Service
We have had the pleasure of dining at Morton's many times and working with their staff for intimate dinners and private group dining; and I must say their level of service has always been extraordinarily consistent. They pay attention to every detail for our private dinning experiences. The food is delicious, properly prepared and served with pride. We highly recommend Morton's Downtown Houston.
Another Good Meal
Have been to the Mortons Downtown location numerous times. Although pricey, the food is always consistent and the service is always outstanding. Being a steak guy, I'm pretty hard to please, but they always manage to do so. Table portioned sides are pretty awesome as well. Hate Brussel Sprouts, but I eat them here! Mac & Cheese is something special as well. Finally, although pricey, the wine list is deep enough that you are sure to find something you will enjoy. If not, try the cocktails. Had a Side Car that was pretty darn good.
Service was slow and inattentive. No refills on ice tea.
Reliable client lunch spot
As with other visits, this was a solid dining experience. Large lunch menu which is nice. Homemade chips and dip were delicious! The filet was average- at $42 for a lunch cut with no sides, I find it a bit overpriced.
Evening Dining Downtown
Excellent steaks and side dishes. A little bit pricy for most but the food and service offset that.
Great food, Expensive, Mediocre service
I expected the price to be high, and the food to be excellent which they both were. My wife is pregnant and also we don't drink so when we both said we were fine with water the server made an obvious unhappy face. It also took quite a while for the server to actually take our order and after the meal came he was nowhere to be found for refills on our waters. The food was amazing though.
I have always enjoyed my dining experience's at the many Landry's properties.

Started the New Year with Morton's with my wife. Service was excellent , food was outstanding, and romantic. Will definite be back again. Thank you Morton's
My wife's birthday is on New Year's Eve and our celebration was so special. We celebrated there last year and will be back next year.
First off, I have dined at all the Prime Steakhouses in Houston and am accustomed to a quality piece of beef cooked right. This was my first experience with Morton's. The steak ordered was a lunch ribeye cooked MR. Steak came out Rare with no evidence of grill marks. Landry's owns Morton's as well as Saltgrass. The chefs should take a lesson from the head griller at Salt Grass. Saltgrass has a fantastic lunch ribeye. The remainder of the order was incorrect as well as the salad being delivered when the steaks arrived. Server was very nice, but not on top of her orders. We were only one of four tables in the restaurant at the time. Morton's needs to reexamine their approach.
First-class all the way! Fit for King and Queen
...and all of our subjects! Wanted a special fine dining experience for my family's Christmas dinner and Morton's exceeded my refined expectations. I travel about 300K miles annually, dine frequently in fine establishments around the country, including every top steakhouse in Houston, and had my expectations set accordingly for this "chain" establishment, comparing it to their sister property in the Galleria which is fine, but not mind-blowing. Boy was I unprepared for this experience! The service was exquisite, the ambience was modern and transformative, and the food was over the top in preparation, presentation, and flavour. Perfectly executed dining experience by a team of professionals. This was old school Chicago Morton's at it's finest..on par with Vic & Anthony's. One of my most memorable lifetime meals ever!
We had a wonderful time. The food was amazing, the service was great and the restaurant is beautiful. We will definitely be back.
Must have been a bad night...
Generally a good steakhouse for a special occasion, but I think I caught them on a bad night. I've eaten at other Mortons locations, and the food was just not quite up to the standard I have seen previously. Quality was there, but items were cold, and the steak was slightly overcooked.

Horrible service. The waitress came by no more than four times including taking our order, bringing our food, and bringing the check. The food came out over an hour late while other tables were being served in a timely fashion. My clients got up and left during the meal becuase it took so long. Nobody came by to even apologize for the horrible service.
This was my first visit to this restaurant, Morton Steak House in Downtown Houston. I took one of my team members out for her year long support with our numerous projects this year. She loved, I loved it and we'll be back. The whole experience was exceptional!
Slow and Boring
First time to Morton's... Service was very slow. Spent 2 hours and 45 min dining for two, seating was VERY uncomfortable and food was boring. I expect much more from high-end restaurants...Last time to Morton's.

It was a very special occasion celebrating birthdays. It was a disaster! The waiter, Jorge, gave very poor service. We had to flag him down for everything; drink orders, silverware, butter plates, to order, refills, etc. you expect more from a steakhouse such as Mortons. The food was mediocre and it took 2 1/2 hours. We will never go back to this location.
Great food, great service, a bit cold.
I visited Morton's on a Friday at lunch. For lunch, it was a bit slower than I would prefer, so expect to spend some time there (45-60 minutes), but this is probably standard for this quality of food, which was excellent, though priced accordingly. Also, leading into the holiday season on a Friday, I expect they were a bit more crowded than normal, which may have slowed operations down. The only real complaint was that I was under an air conditioning vent, so it was pretty chilly.
mediocre steak spot
For a downtown steak lunch it suffices, but I would not come here for anything besides a work lunch for clients or group lunch for team building. For steaks in Houston this doesn't come close to the top 10 and for the price point it needs to up its game. Cocktails were fine, but nothing remarkable. The lobster bisque, usually pretty good, was so spicy it was almost inedible. Service was great, hence the higher score.
The service was sub par and the food was cold. Will not be back.
Great place to impress a friend or client
This visit I brought a co-worker/friend for lunch at Mortons and she loved the view, the atmosphere, the decor, the friendly wait staff, watching the chefs prepare dishes, everything about Mortons. She suggested we come on evening when we get off work for a cocktail and to see how it is at night. Great suggestion! Can't wait!
