Morimoto Waikiki Ratings and Reviews
Well worth the experience
What can I say about Morimoto? It is more than just a meal, it is a dining experience. No wonder the first question the host asked on our way to our table was "Are you celebrating a special event tonight?". My wife and I had a few appetizers, some sushi and we split an entree before sharing a desert. Everything was delicious including the creative cocktails. "Foam" seemed to be a theme of our meal. There was a bacon cream foam on the pork gyoza which was amazing. The meal was tasty and artistic. It's a little pricey, of course, but worth it for the experience on a special occasion. It also didn't hurt that we were there during the Friday fireworks at the Hilton Hawaiian Village.
One of the best in Waikiki
Morimoto's is an excellent spot, whether it's just the two of us or whether we are entertaining guests. The setting with a view of the yacht harbor and the Waikiki lights makes for a special Honolulu experience. There's a choice of inside and outside seating but in good weather, outside is the place to be. The restaurant is sophisticated and modern. The menu is innovative and the food is consistently great. There are great cocktails and a good wine list. Waiters are knowledgeable and friendly. Our waiter wasn't the most attentive we have had ---but some of the waiters we've had previously just set a high bar because they were excellent. Highly recommend for a great night in Waikiki.

Always wanted to try because it's Morimoto's restaurant. The food was unimaginable and very satisfying. The host was very polite and made sure we were updated on our wait time (which wasn't long). Our waiter was extremely nice and made great recommendations. Although he forgot our wine, he was quick to explain (short handed). He was handling the evening very well. Our first visit memorable one with fantastic food and great service.
Was nice to sit outside and eat. Shall recommend this place to others
The spicy miso seafood dish was indeed spicy...but very delicious and contained a lot of different seafood. The staff was attentive and courteous.
The degustation menu is outstanding.
If you get an opportunity to visit Morimoto Waikiki, do yourself a favour and choose the degustation menu. Albeit a little pricey, the dishes that were presented were well worth it. Unraveling the depth of flavours was a delight and the ingredients used were fresh and of exception quality. The intervals of which dishes were brought to the table was timed perfectly and if there was a slight disappointment, it would be the lack of a nice Shiraz to pair with the prawn, waygu and pork dish.
Very good, but lacking innovation.
Service was exceptional. We had the omakase as we felt that should provide a good representation of the overall menu. Most of the dishes were tasty, but lacked innovation. The entree was a bit of a disappointment. Kind of "meh". Drinks were quite good and inventive.
we had a fun and good night here.
It was all very good the only comment i would make is that the pineapple in the pineapple tempura was so acidic and tart that it ruined the overall experience
Front staff service was good, but the waiter was excellent!! He was extremely helpful and very attentive!

The restaurant staff were amazing! They were very polite and were there whenever you needed anything without being over bearing. They were very helpful in explaining some of the dishes we had never tried. We loved the menu some twists on some of the old favorites and some new dishes we had never seen before. We had the Demon Slayer sake based on the bar tenders recommendation and it did not disappoint. The only negative we found was the noise level but there was a very large group siting on the patio with us so that was most of it. The desert was amazing!
Morimoto - Too Quiet and ??Msg
We enjoyed our Omikase meals at Morimoto. We were only one of two tables occupied in the enormous Dining Room. There were 4 or 5 outdoors as well. The restaurant was WAY under utilized. Why are people not going there? Every course was beautiful and tasty. The service was OK except that some of the folks delivering plates spoke too quietly or had trouble with enunciation, so we did not get clear explanations of what was being served. Care attention was paid to one customers allergy. During the meal we drank many many glasses of water. I think, perhaps, that MSG drove this need.
Wonderful night at Morimotos
As you would expect from a Morimoto restaurant the food was incredible. We did the 8 course meal and it was incredible. A good variation of food, although it was more oriented towards seafood. Our waitress was very professional yet friendly and helpful at the same time. The remainder of the wait staff was equally friendly and professional and were knowledgeable about the food that was being served.
Everything we anticipated
Let me start by saying; this was more than we ever spend on dinner, but was worth every penny. The wait staff was perfect for us , but may not be up to par for stuck up snob's. Sat outside at dinner and couldn't avoid the hot sun. Waitress brought a champagne ice bucket for my beer to stay cold. It all payed off with a beautiful sunset. Wagyu ribeye was a blessing from God. Wife loved here chicken ramen and wanted to go back the next evening again. Pinapple tempura appetizer and haupia dessert are works of art. Dessert with French press kona coffee, yes please. We will definitely be back next time we are in Hawaii. Thanks chef Morimoto for providing us with this wonderful restaurant and the staff for the great experience. And don't be stingy, the automatic %18 gratuity is not enough.
great food and views
The food and views were amazing. High priced but great quality and presentation . Easy to make reservations a little hard to find the restaurant. Did not like that the gratuity was added to my bill. The waiter was not very good was in a rush to get our order in due to the kitchen closing but then spent 25mins. talking to another table that was done with their meal before putting our order in. Then the only other time we saw him was to give us the bill. All other staff were really nice and helpful. Felt that I would have rather given the gratuity to the other staff members other than the horrible waiter. Overall was great food and great views and nice and quite. Will go back as long as different waiter.

Loved the omakase, the only thing that didn't seem to measure up in quality to the rest of the menu was the nigiri sushi. The fish freshness was okay (rather than superb) and the rice a little larger than we are used to at better sushi places. It felt like getting customers to fill up on rice. When reservation were confirmed the person knew it was for a birthday. Expected something to recognize special occasion evening, but nothing proffered. Server was helpful with information about the restaurant adapting the omakase each time return customers order so customers never have the same omakase repeated. With that in mind we would like to return.
still too noisy
I guess the younger crowd don't mind the loud noise. Especially when there's a large party. I haven't sat outside, maybe it's quieter out there.

One of the highest quality, and best value lunches we have had on our trip in Hawaii. We may just do lunch here daily from here on out after having such an amazing meal
Spring for the omakase - it's worth it.

It was surprisingly empty on a Saturday night which gave way to an excellent experience, save for a crying baby who was probably upset it had to drink formula instead of eat sashimi. The server, Mark, was one of the best I've ever had due to his knowledge, sense of humor, and kindness. The food was amazing...from the wagyu carpaccio and oyster foie grois to the surf & turf and kinmedai sashimi. On top of that we ordered two desserts, the peanut butter bomb which is basically reeses on steroids and haupia. Overall the food was excellent and I'll be back to try other menu items, the ambience was nice as the weather was pleasantly cool and clear. And again, our waiter Mark was the man. Keep in mind with two apps, two entrees, two pieces of sashimi, two desserts and 4 glasses of wine this dinner with tip came out to $300.
The food was spectacular. We had been two years before and didn't enjoy it however we are so happy that we gave it another go. Everything was perfect. Would go again in a heartbeat. Great ambiance. Loved it and can't wait to go again p

A very elegant dining hall. You have a great feeling of a strong Japanese modern touch. The food dishes are pretty unique and has a connection to his iron chef stardom.
Morimoto was recommended by a friend. We decided to go early to catch the sunset. The ambiance was awesome. We decided to try different hot and cold appetizers and shared a main course. The service was quick and the server informed us properly of the restaurant's recommendation. I would go again when I return to Honolulu.
Incredible Service and Food
Just another 5 star hit, freshest Toro around for sure. Josh was our server and he is amazing as well. Can't go wrong here.
Superb. Significantly better than the other Japanese notable nearby.
We were not impressed with the the food
The service was slow the food was just ok and the presentAtion wAs poor. We would not come back
Just add this to the others
Review #100+??? Lamb Carpaccio, Lobster entree 1st time, and the others to be found in my past reviews. Josh was our waiter. 3rd time since Mimi was off. His is equally amazing. Go and put your wishes in the hands of an amazing staff.

Very good drinks. Food was mostly exceptional with a few that lacked a little in taste from the entrees. Overall good dining. Outside area a little downscale for the upscale atmosphere they are trying to maintain. Great place, to eat and drink, would definitely visit again despite minor flaws.

There are a couple of outstanding dishes that make us return again and again ... the oyster / uni / foie gras appetizer, seafood tobanyaki and the black cod entree. The food is always outstanding and the service is as well... highly recommended.

Underwhelmed by service (distracted) and food. I understand the concept of food as art but it should extend to the flavors and while the presentation was impressive the food was bland or sauced beyond the flavor of the item if that makes sense. Note to guests; 18% gratuity is automatically added saving the server from a nick or two from my standard for solid service. For less money recommend some solid off the strip places like Town. Five nights in Waikiki and by far everyone's favorite.

Fantastic Japanese food in Honolulu
Went for lunch for the great value lunch sets. Food was tasty and generous and service very good. Even surprised by the restaurant when they provided some dessert for our anniversary.
Best meal in Hawaii
This was definitely the best meal I had in hawaii. The wine paring was spot on and the ingredients were very fresh. Loved every moment of it
celebrating birthday in Waikiki
Morimoto's of Waikiki delivers every time and didn't disappoint during a recent celebration of a birthday. The weather was delightful and our seat at center of the edge of the outdoor dining area was perfect to catch a wonderful sunset over the harbor after a wonderful meal. Sushi was outstanding and fresh, cocktails were innovative and refreshing, entrees were served with care and refinement they deserved. Service, as always, was on point. Definitely can't wait to come back and dine again!
Not enogh variety
For non seafood lovers not the place to go. Very limited selections and not great. Deserts are great though.
Waikiki vs Maui
We had eaten in Mori Moto in Maui and enjoyed it so much that we tried the Waikiki location. It was not as good as Maui. We were disappointed with the food. We thought Maui was beyond excellent and Waikiki was OK. For the price and our expectation we were disappointed.
Great sushi/Tired decor
This was our second Morimoto restaurant we have tried, and the food was superb. We brought our friends who are big foodies, and they really enjoyed the meal, and frequent Honolulu and said they would be going back for certain. They came with a very discriminating palate, and were pleasantly surprised. Although, the decor is very tired, the furniture was noticeably worn and that was my biggest surprise. The place needs to be updated. If I go back to Honolulu, I will definitely be dining there again.
One dish was not as good as we expected
Of the 4 dishes we ordered 3 were incredible and 1 was just mediocre. It arrived warm and was chewy and bland. The other three were delicious and flavorful. With an average Entrée price of $45 I'd expect them to all be consistently good, if not spectacular. UPDATE: I left similar feedback in the comment card as I paid. The manager has already replied to me which is consistent with the other part of our experience: the staff were all top notch. Our server Sara and all of the other waiters and staff were observant but subtle. Our glasses were filled before we needed to ask but it didn't feel in-your-face. The table was nicely cleaned of spots in between courses but the bussers were incredibly subtle with their wash-clothes and we didn't notice they had wiped anything away until later. Overall this was a good experience and I'm interested in returning now that the manager has personally contacted me to tell me they're going to take a closer look at the quality of the dish we had a bad experience with.
