Cold Salmon

Dined on April 18, 2016

I got the salmon salad. It was cold salmon, clammy and tasteless all for $16. I go to la Serena grill all the time. The serve their salmon, hot and spicy with avocado, onion crisps and an unbelievable avocado dressing for half the price, and there is an ocean view.

Very good but a bit pricey.

Dined on April 14, 2016

Very good dining experience last week. Guest had special smoked salmon. I had cheeseburger with fries. Very satisfied with both. And service was, as usual, very friendly and efficient. My only dissatisfaction is the pricing. I think that a restaurant on a Univ campus should be more moderately priced. Somehow comparable meals off campus are several dollars less per entree. Maybe this restaurant needs more help from central administration as a courtesy to Univ folks who ear there.

Best nice lunch at USC

Dined on April 12, 2016

Best option for a grown up meal at USC. Sonoma Salad was wonderful. Service was friendly and great, although the wait for the salads was a little long. BLT ordered by my friend was amazing. We saw a burger going by and it looked incredible. I'll be back.

Moreton Fig Only Nice Place at USC

Dined on April 9, 2016

This is the best (and only real restaurant) on USC campus (other place is University club but you have to be a member). The food is very good, the cocktails are excellent, and the wine list is also very good. Service is efficient and attentive. The outdoor patio is swell for drinks - I don't understand why they won't allow food out there, but I *think* it has to do with squirrels who beg .... I eat there often (for work reasons) so I wish the menu would revolve and change a bit more, but - the food is still very high quality. My one complaint is the lighting at Moreton Fig. The CFL lightbulbs are just awful - they bathe everything (Food and people) in a green/grey light that is totally unattractive and unappetizing. Given that the decor is quasi "man Cave" (dark wood tables, dark brown leather chairs) if the light were warm, it would be inviting. I have never understood why managers ignore lighting and music in the overall experience. If they would address this, I think more people would be attracted to come in. That said, if you have a reason to be on campus and want to "dine" beforehand, you should not try to go anywhere else - thus I am very glad that Moreton Fig is on campus and plan to return often.

Good place for business

Dined on April 8, 2016

A nice place for business. Good food options, not complicated, high quality and interest. Good service. I prefer, when warm enough, to eat in the outdoor area, under the huge Moreton Fig trees. This area is good for 2-12 people. Quiet. Inside is a bit more active but not too loud. There is a side room for the private meeting lunch/dinner. All in all a good place on USC's campus for a professional meal.

Excellent restaurant on USC campus

Dined on March 30, 2016

This is a good place on campus. Food is good. Wine list more than adequate. I think the only place that serves cocktails on Campus except University Club, which you need to be a member of. Bar scene is active.

Dined on March 2, 2016

Excellent dining option for lunch. Professional, friendly staff, creative and well executed menu, great energy with customers and servers, super hostess, fun atmosphere, but also good for important meetings. Indoor or outdoor seating options - each is wonderful choice, but Inprefer outdoor under the giant tree.

MY Moreton Fig

Dined on February 22, 2016

I consider Moreton Fig MY lunch time dining spot. It's my favorite place to invite people to when they visit me on campus. I now have friends and acquaintances that dine here whom have no other reason to be on campus but simply to come eat. Although the menu does continue to change to keep a "Spark" going in our relationship (lol) I always find an entree to keep me coming back.

Dined on December 9, 2015

Great for the outdoor setting under the giant Moreton Fig trees (like banyans). Great food. Good for conversations. Service can be spotty but OK. Good for people watching. Mix of faculty, students, university leaders and visiting academics. Much preferred to the University Club (aka faculty club).

Nice upscale restuarant on USC Campus

Dined on November 20, 2015

Well prepared food, nice choices but the menu is rather limited. However, everything we had was excellent and the service was great. Absolutely love their creamed spinach. Wish they still had butterscotch pudding. That dessert was amazing.

Given there is a relative dearth of quality restaurants in the neighborhood around USC, this is a perfectly fine (if somewhat overpriced) option for a business lunch.

Looking for a great dining experience on campus? Look no more....Morton Fig ranks right up there with great LA restaurants. Convenient for taking a student to dinner or for those times you are going to an on-campus event. A bit pricy, but worth every penny. Seating available outside. You won't be disappointed.

Nice dining experience on USC campus.

Dined on October 23, 2015

This is a nice place to dine on campus - upscale with a relaxed atmosphere. Not great but good enough to recommend and go to again - just manage your expectations. Can't beat the location if you want to be on or near the campus. A short but decent wine list with reasonable pricing. Enough entrée options to please everyone. The prosciutto and cheese appetizer was nice and light. The berry salad, even with a protein added, was just OK. Filet was nicely seasoned and, although a bit underdone, a meal highlight. The short ribs were delicious - The only complaint is that the portion was very small – more like an appetizer. Far too expensive for an appetizer portion. Good service.

Hostess- not friendly/Waiter Christian-the best!

vip
Dined on October 20, 2015

The hostess wasn't very accommodating nor very friendly. We frequent this place several times a month and she's been there almost every time. She has been more unwelcoming than welcoming overall. It is a bit disappointing. She indicated our favorite server was unavailable and the proceeded to sit us at a table in the sun. The place was not full at the time and she said all the other tables out of the sun (there were several empty) were all reserved.

Mediocre and over-priced Cobb salad

Dined on August 25, 2015

Service very good as always. But yesterday's Cobb salad at 17.50 was a great disappointment. The problem probably lay with the dressing -- basically tasteless. Your prices are also too high. There is no reason you should be more expensive than off-campus restaurants of equal quality. You are charging USC people for convenience. That is not right. Note: Sometimes you food is excellent. Variability, however, is not a good thing in food service.

Excellent Kobe burger

Dined on June 16, 2015

Had a first-rate Kobe beef burger with carmelized onion, bacon, and cheddar cheese on a fresh and tasty bun. With a small salad on the side. Altogether perfectly prepared (I ordered it medium rare because of the quality of the beef). I've had some forgettable meals at this USC campus eatery but this one was a winner. As usual the service was very friendly and efficient.

A Great USC Restaurant

Dined on April 23, 2015

If you're coming to USC and want a place for lunch or early dinner that isn't off campus, this is the best choice. The service is great, the food very tasty -- I haven't had a bad meal ever -- and it also has a quiet bar. The outdoor is pretty, though it's not my favorite seating area. The view is pretty good for a college campus.

In Need of New Management

Dined on April 12, 2015

Very surprised that this place remains open on the USC campus. It's an embarrassment to the school. Made an online reservation (thru Open Table) for a Sat. night (4/11) only to arrive to be told the place was closed for a private party! Why couldn't they have notified me of this earlier? Have visited numerous times and although the food is good the service isn't. They're always disorganized, you wait for your table even with a reservation and no one seems to care or take criticism seriously. I'd suggest the University President show up there unannounced and see what's going on. Supposedly USC hospitality students are working there but if they're serious about future jobs in this industry this place doesn't cut it and I certainly wouldn't want working there listed on my resume!

Nice restaurant at USC

Dined on April 3, 2015

Moreton Fig is definitely a great place if you want to have a quiet restaurant to talk to your friends and guests. It has indoors and outdoors dining areas and very friendly service. Food is pricey but still reasonable for the ambiance. No need to be a faculty in order to get in like University Club.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN I CAN'T EAT UNDER THE TREE?

Dined on April 2, 2015

I love Moreton Fig, fine dining with seasonal menus that feature vegetables and fish especially in beautiful preparations. A couple of fantastic cocktails to match. The indoor dining room is lovely and the service was fantastic. But... this restaurant is called Moreton Fig because a big gorgeous example of such tree sits right in the patio with no food service! A travesty! Why have the gorgeous patio you have at this lovely outdoor time of the season and not have food service under the tree? Instead I look out to see USC students drinking it up instead of enjoying the pleasure of what this restaurant does best. Still, delicious food with good service and lovely atmosphere.
