Mitchell's Fish Market - Tampa Ratings and Reviews
Not my best experience at Mitchell's
I've dined at Mitchell's Fish Market on several occasions and have always had a pleasant experience. However, it was not as pleasant this time. Things started poorly from the moment we arrived. I stood at the hostess area waiting to check-in for my reservation for a long time. We were early and at first I didn't mind waiting, but restaurant staff were walking right past us and no one asked if we had been helped. All someone had to do was say "someone will be right with you" or something like that. No one else was waiting to be seated except my party. Very disappointed. One staff member actually said "excuse me" because I was standing in front of something he needed. Finally after about 10 - 15 minutes, I went to the bar area and asked if there was someone to check us in and seat us for our reservations. By the time someone came to seat us, it was well passed our reservation time. Normally that would not have bothered me too much but when we walked into the dining room, it wasn't crowded. I mean barely any customers seated at tables - maybe 4 tables. I originally thought the long wait to be seated was because they were busy. After that, I just didn't seem to enjoy anything. The food was ok, but it wasn't as good as usual. The service wasn't that good, especially considering the staff to customer ratio. I suppose I can write it off as being a Sunday evening. I had 3 people with me who had never been to the restaurant and I spoke so highly of Mitchell's prior to arriving. I apologized to my guests and told them service isn't normally like this, but I'm not sure they believed me. It will be a long time before I return to Mitchell's and it had been one of my favorite places to dine.

The crab cakes were delicious. The lobster mac and cheese was smoky and creamy, although it could have used more lobster. Key lime pie and Sharkfin pie were on point.

The food here was fabulous! Seabass to die for! We had the Malbec nice dinner wine. Service was great along with all the apps and fixins! Absolutely would go back! Wish we had a Mitchell's in our neighborhood.
Our meal before the game
We had never been to Mitchell's Fish market before. We were greeted warmly at the door and throughout our dining experience by Douglas our waiter. He shared information about choices and offered many excellent suggestions, many of which we followed. We never felt rushed, and enjoyed the whole experience before we went on to see our hockey team, "The Fighting Sioux" win there semifinal game at Amelia arena. The restaurant was close to all the events we needed, with parking very simple. Thank you to all the staff. We will be back.

The service was great all food acceptable except char broil oysters they were over cooked on the burnt side and bitter. They were sent back and we received credit for them on the bill no problem. All in all we had an enjoyable time.
Not too happy
My husbands trout was very thin, and compared to other seafood restaurants, not acceptable. My cod stuffed with shrimp and lobster was every disappointing! I think it was frozen and then heated in a microwave. I could hardly find any lobster and the cod was tough and very lacking in flavor.. W have eaten at Mitchells often and recommended it to friends. The server was the least accommodating we have had at Mitchells. She seemed to want us to hurry up, and kept trying to remove our plates. WE left very unhappy. If I return, we will definitely not choose the same items.

Our server said she was new, and it showed. We experienced poor service the entire meal. We had to repeatedly ask for more drinks. We never received our soup. Two dishes were not even warm. This server needed assistance or more training.

Food was average. Crab legs were good. Lobster was extremely small, as was filet. There was quite a bit of logistical and administrative problems with the Landry's card.

Today was National Crab Meat Day, thus our main purpose for having lunch here today. The crab cakes were delightful! Nice and plump! I even seen the young man hard at work in the Fish Market making them. We had the Tilapia and Shrimp Bianca. I was surpised that the fish was fried, although good and crisp. The artichoke hearts added a great balance to the entrée.
The meal was fine, kind of average. Based on this it was not good value as the prices were high. The staff was pleasant enough but not to the level I would have expected in a place with entrees in the high $20's. We expected more and based on this would not go out of our way to eat at a Mitchell's again, especially with all the competition so close by.

My wife and I enjoyed a late lunch/early dinner. She ordered the ginger crusted salmon. She did not like it, but the manager made it right. She then ordered the salmon plank, which she enjoyed. I ordered the lobster and shrimp stuffed cod.
Had a quiet dinner for 2..Food was awesome..Server made some great recommendations for our Perfect evening out.

The Chilean Sea Bass was outstanding. Most of the other items to include the Lobster Bisque Soup were good but not exceptional. The service was outstanding. Kudos to Douglas.
Delicious. Nice ambiance, great fresh seafood. Nice wine list. Desserts are great as well. Definitely going to come back often

Our server was not really friendly. At one point I said "Hey, I actually made you laugh." All our entrees were great. We all had some kind of seafood, and I think for what they charge they could add one more shrimp to the plate. The redskins tasted like they were from the night before and very stiff, and the broccoli had been barely cooked. Not even close to al dente. The Spinach-Artichoke Dip was the best I have ever had and the chips were delicious. The Crab Cakes were great. Salads didn't come with any of our dinners so that was disappointing.
Service disappointing not up to usual standards. Shrimp Cocktail the best in Florida. Food as usual fantastic . Everyone always pleased. No matter is ordered all were happy with their meals.

The tables are way to close together they sat us at a table and you could not even pull out the chairs we asked to be moved and all they had was the oyster bar. It was very loud in the resturant. We were celebrating valentine's day a week late and went to our favorite resturant after this visit no longer our favorite.

Can I get a drink?
My girlfriend who lives in D.C. lovesthe crab legs at Mitchells. For the second year in a row we dined at Mitchells on Valentines Day. This time I booked our 8:45 reservation for Valentines dinner on Wednesday, Feb 10th. We arrived at 8:10 and asked to be sat earlier if possible. We weren't offered a table until 8:50 despite witnessing other parties without reservations being sat before us. While waiting at the bar, the bar tender ignored my empty glass for over 30 minutes. We had to leave the bar because we felt so unwelcome. This is when we noticed a second party being sat without a reservation. When the hostess finally escorted us, I asked if we could have one of the five open booths instead of a table. She told me that they were reserved. We sat in one of the booths while she checked to see if there was availability. Fortunately, she came back and said that we could stay where we were. The waitress then brought me the wrong draft beer, overcharged me for it and did not know all the ingredients of the Sharkfin. On a brighter note, the grouper, crablegs, lobster bites, jambalaya rice and corn was spectacular. I doubt if we will return next Valentines...

I would pass on this venue. They seem to be going through the motions. Not really into the guest experience. Never had my water refilled or even asked if I wanted more to drink. When I asked for a decanter for the wine we brought, I was told they didn't have one, then maybe they have one, then they actually brought us one that had just been rinsed and had water inside it and on the outside. One of the steaks was way over cooked, we asked if we could have another one cooked medium and it was rare. They took it back and it came back burnt on the outside and still rare. Salmon was over cooked and the veggies were under cooked. They weren't that busy, which should have been the signal for 8:15pm on Valentine's Day. The bill was still $200. Felt like a chain restaurant with very poor leadership.
Good food great value
Service was fantastic, but the food was even better. For two people our bill was only $122. That included two entrees, an appetizer, three drinks and shared dessert plus coffee. This is our new "go to" place. Very impressed.

Overcooked fish, poor service
We made reservations and were placed in the middle of the room with very little people there. By the time we left, it was packed and loud. Our drinks were not taken when we sat down... we were there about 10 minutes before someone actually asked if we'd been served. We were then asked for our drink orders. We both choose water and an alchoholic beverage and ordered two appetizers. Menu's stayed on the table when the appetizers were served (Nothing else was asked -- meals, etc.)... I ordered GF ahi tuna (allergy). They served it with soy sauce (wheat) on it. After I had already eaten 1/5 and as had my husband (soy allergy) they realized and took it back. He was affected (of course at the beginning of the meal), luckily I was Ok. They brought back a GF / Soy free one. That was good. Then after apps they finally took our order and the menu went away... salads came. Those were nice. Then our meals. I had cod with shrimp scampi. The cod was rubber and very overcooked (the very middle was good... so I had two nice bites). My husband had the stuffed cod with lobster and shrimp. Everything was overcooked and the shrimp and lobster turned to rubber. The veggies and mashed potatoes were good. It took two hours to eat (just two people). It was an expensive meal with horribly overcooked entree's and terrible service. I don't want to go back any time soon.
Need real baked potatoes in real oven, not mashed. Lobster excellent.
It's always a nice experience to dine at Mitchell's and it's nice that they've added some new items to the menu.
Food was COLD, Room was cold
Both dinners arrived cold to the touch. Temperature in the dining area was below 70 on a chilly rainy night. Below par. Surprised anyone goes back twice. Mgr. came over for two seconds when waiter told him about the cold food. We are not complainy people but food was below room temperature
Very nice dinner
We enjoyed Mitchell's very much . It was a little rushed because we had a theater show and so we asked our waitress to speed up the process and were pleasantly surprised that she did exactly as we asked and were able to make our show with ample time.

Great service! And great food.
Came here for our 31st wedding anniversary. My wife had the grouper which she loved; and I had a perfectly grilled filet with a warm pink center. They seated a large group of people adjacent to us, but it was like they weren't even there. Our night was perfect.
A nice place to meet your friends
What a good variety of fish and preparations. There were six of us and we all ordered something different. The portion sizes were quite generous. The sides were fresh and balanced the meals well. Our table had fish and chips, tilapia and pasta, salmon, and mussels. Several of us shared salads. Every dish was delicious.
