The service was excellent here. The manager came by to check on us. The valet went and got my car before he saw my valet ticket. His great memory is amazing. The food was not as good as expected, we are used to smaller portions. However, I loved their foie gras appetizer!

It was very noisy due to 2 large groups that we could barely hear each other speak. Parma pasta was VERY salty. Veggie lasagna was excellent as was the wine and service.
Ranked one of the top 10 restaurants in LA
We had high expectations for Michael's and it certainly lived up to it! Very creative and subtle combinations of flavors and farm to table ingredients made for some exquisite dishes. Fair, but not extensive wine list. Good solid choices for vegetarians as well. Price not that unreasonable for a place rated above Spago and Patina in the LA area.
I'm not a wine drinker but this place has a long enough list to fit anyone's taste. Food is incredibly fresh. Duck was great, cooked correctly and house made lasagna was epic but also light as a feather. I plan on returning soon.
One of America's finest
It is a pleasure to dine when the staff from the sommelier to the runners know the food, how it is prepared and proudly take the time to answer all of your questions. The wait staff is well versed in the wine list and you are well served to follow their suggestions. The ingredients are all locally sourced and creatively prepared. Don't skip the gelato; it's made inhouse
Service is over the top!
We enjoyed our 29th Anniversary at Michael's last week. More than anything else, Michael's has service down like no place we've ever seen! In most places, you have to dance a jig in order to get the attention of your server. Not here. These guys were great! Someone came by and offered a complimentary appetizer. Another guy was very fluent in Italian wines. The manager came by to introduce himself and converse 3 different times. Then we were offered free desserts (fab!!!). What a lovely experience. Tthere is no question that we will continue going to Michael's as well as recommending it to friends. Better yet, we'll take them there ourselves. ;-) (BTW, this took place on Monday evening when most other places in town are closed.)
Once and a while I end up in Long Beach for business, but it has been some time. Last time I was there I ate here and it was very good so I went back. The first time it was a distracting group and didn't get to enjoy as much as I should have. This time I was with a group that appreciated food and wine and we LOVED it. The food was amazing and the wine was just as good. Great list of wine, but instead we gave a price range and sommelier took perfect care of the selections. We had a group of 6. Loved it soooo much that went back the next night with a group of 10 different people and had the same type of experience. Not a lot of options in the area...this stands out as the best option. This would stand out as a best option in any city regardless of the restaurants in the area.
Hi ! We have been long time costemers of Michaels but after the other night I don't think I'll be returning. We brought our friends who both do not drink and one of them is a pescatarian (eats fish, but not meat) she ordered the scallops , the waitress informed her she could ask for no pancetta , so she did. Our food came and she took one night of the scallop with the risotto to find out she had meat in it! When she told the waitress they took forever to return her plate , just to see the scallop with a bite out of it. How disappointing ! Who does that? Then finally after we were all done eating her plate the right way came. We ordered dessert and by that time michael got wind of what happens and offered us a drink on him. When we said no thank you because our friends do not drink . We got the bill with her scallops still on and nothing comped. I think that is bad costumer service if you ask me.
First time visiting and it was great! Fabulous flavors in the duck and steak. Fritters and donuts for dessert were light as air. We'll be back

The food at Michael's is phenomenal, and the staff go above and beyond to make the meal special.
A milestone birthday to remember
I took my wife here for her birthday. We hadn't been in years. The food and service and atmosphere was as outstanding as we had recalled. It helped that it was a bit of a slow night. Quiet just like we like it. We had the scallops and they were just wonderful. So were the appetizers and salads. The lemon fritters for dessert were a great touch too. Not to sweet.

Best meal I have had in a long time. Easily one of the top 3 restaurants in Long Beach. We dined there during long beach restaurant week. Duck sausage ravioli was amazing! I cannot wait to go back.
Hit Michael's on Sunday night after flying into Long Beach. It was a quiet evening, perhaps because the Oscars were on TV. I mention this as sometimes it seems restaurants don't "function" as well when the pace is too slow. Not an issue here...staff was well trained and attentive and the food hit all the marks. Overall, a fine dining experience. Would not think twice about returning.
A Long Beach Must!
We love to dine at Michael's. Always an outstanding meal, service is top notch and the ambiance makes the evening special. It's a home run!
On my second visit to this restaurant it seemed to take a deep dive. We were seated in the bar, with a tile floor, making the noise level excessive. One of the orders wasn't available (after the orders went to the kitchen) and the service went from lax (15+ minute waits) to dismissive. By the end it felt more like a chain restaurant than a top 25. There are too many better places for the money to go back.
Reserves table on 2nd floor for business dinner. It was a clear full moon night so good choice with open roof top. This was our 2nd trip to Michael's and the food was very well done, but was missing that extra sparkle and quality. Our server recommended an Italian Red Wine with a spectator score of 100 - no idea how it got this score!!! Our food was good, and we will return, just seem to be missing that little something extra this time.
Great good, excellent service.
Great good, excellent service.
GREAT PLACE FOR SPECIAL EVENT
MICHAEL'S IS A PLACE I WAS REALLY WAITING TO DINE AT. EXPENSIVE. WE ORDERED TOO MUCH FOOD. PRIMI PASTA DISHES ARE BIGGER THAN SERVER TOLD US.
Excellent experience with one exception
I went to Michael's with my boyfriend on Valentines' Day. The prix-fixe menu was amazing, and the added wine pairings made the meal perfect. The only bad note I have is that we waited for 40 minutes before we sat down - even though we had reservations! To me, that is very rude, and I hope that it's not like that every day.

The Valentine's Day set menu was good overall but we felt that they went cheap on the main course as the steak was 1/2 an inch thin and couldn't be prepared properly. We asked for medium rare and got well done. Also we had to wait for about an hour even though we had a reservation. The wait is understandable given the busy day but the cheap steak was a slap in the face.
Dont go here on special occasions
Long wait even with reservations. Do not recommend this place. Wish we went somewhere else.
Long Long Wait
Had a 7:30 reservation along with many other parties and they were extremely behind. I don't mind waiting however when you are spending as much as we were just for the meal only, not including the drinks, you should be on time, there is a reason for reservations. Once seated we then waited an additional 15-20 minutes before a server even came to our table. This is not acceptable.
Skip the Pre Fixe
I've been to Michaels twice and the first time was amazing. The second trip was for Valentine's Day and the only option was their pre fixe menu and was a huge disappointment. The service was slow (and poor) and the food was mediocre (that's generous). The wine pairing was great and there were a few shining courses, but nothing anywhere near our first experience. After coffee, tax and tip, dinner for two rolled in at just under $400 - we should have left blown away. I'm giving Michael's one more chance (based on our first experience) before writing them off for good.
Disappointing-- but still special
We go to Michael's-on-Naples because it is our favorite restaurant-- but on this occasion, Valentine's Day, we were disappointed. The dinner was well-hosted, the waitstaff impeccably attentive, and the atmosphere welcoming. But the service was slow, the food uneven in both preparation and presentation, and the main course not up to Michael's usual standards. (The steak could have been served by Norm's and the halibut was both under-cooked and bland.) In spite of the graciousness of the people, this meal was overly expensive given its quality and the pace of the service detracted from the specialness of the occasion. We'll go back when they are not trying so hard and are their usual, excellent selves.
Great food but spotty service.
Seemed to be a bit discriminting just because we weren't dressed as fancy as others. Tried to seat is literally next to the kitchen until we didn't accept to sit there. And food took a very long time to come out. Good was great but other than that nothing else was.
Meeting of Friends
Group of seven. From the valet to the check, everything was well orchestrated. Smiles. Wine. Great food. Pasta was wonderful, consistent from previous memories. Steak, Mushrooms, Duck, Meatballs, Pork... all smiles. Memory made.
Great spot with local and sustainable menus and an extensive wine list. Tried the chefs menu (5 courses with paired wine) and it was amazing!

We absolutely loved the Pesce Zuppa and the lobster spaghetti. Bread was cold and not special. Would prefer a warm crusty bread. Would definitely go back and recommend it to anyone going to Long Beach.

Only had a short wait to be seated even though we had reservations., didn't mind. Comfortable seating table with moderate noise level and nice ambience Ordered a fish entre, sea bass, that was very tasting. Enjoyed the wine from the Pulgia region and great service from server who offered his recommendations for the entrees. Would recommend Michael's to friends.
The homemade pasta is incredible! Every bite of the lasagna and mushroom ravioli is fresh and delicious!
Great Place to take your girl on a date. Great food, and the services was outstanding!
Overpriced & Overrated
Just new to town so had to try what a number of locals had suggested we try. What a massive disappointment. Service was glacially slow (albeit the table next to us was fawned over by the owner and his family), drinks took forever i.e. on one course our food came out well before the wine pairing, food was shockingly basic, flavourless & poorly prepared for this price point...I could go on. Needless to say, this is perhaps one of those local institions that exists only by thread of its past reputation. As I said, highly overrated and overpriced. There will not be a second visit. I suggest you simply give this place a pass. More culinary & customer satisfaction could be gleaned from the Jack In The Box down the street.
We came here for dinela. The food was pretty good, not great or remarkable, just about expected. The service was terrible. Our server never asked us how our food was. We waited over 20 min to have our plates cleared after our entrees. We had to ask the busser for coffee, it was never offered to us. By the time we got dessert, we were just ready to leave. Oh, and our order was never placed in front of the correct person when delivered. This also happened to several tables around us. Overall, we were not impressed and will not be returning, which is sad as we are locals who like to eat out. The service really ruined an otherwise ok meal.
AMAZING, as always!
Once again Michael's delivers! The food, service and ambiance were wonderful and the Dine LA menu was superb.

Great food, bartender was very helpful when at the bar. Wine pairing with the dineLA menu was hit n miss, but the whiskey and digestif suggestions were spot on. A bit of an "old white guy" place, but still worth a visit now and again.
We love Michaels!
The food is amazing, ambiance spectacular and you are personally greeted by Michael himself or Massimo the general manager. They are keeping the tradition of wonderful service and food alive and really know how to wine and dine. It is by far one of our favorite restaurants - from hosting our engagement party to our top pick for a date night.
Have been dining here for over five years. Consistently enjoyable experience. Flat bread (pizzette) is always hot, flavorful, crisp, and delicious. Octopus soup was absolutely fantastic - layers of flavor nuances in the broth, well marinated octopus, al-dente cooked beans, just hot enough (temperature-wise); however, when towards the end of the meal we ordered another octopus soup, it had completely different broth flavor profile - it's as though some other stock, possibly ZUPPA DI PESCE, was added, maybe by mistake. The result was dismaying; the server was alerted to the fact, but he simply shrugged it off. Foie gras - tasy, nicely seared, with sweet fruit sauce, but exceptionally tiny portions. Both of our salad choices failed to impress - plain, cold, flavorless, and completely underwhelming, save for marginally attractive presentation (NSALATA DI CAVOLO RICCIO and BARBABIETOLE). RAVIOLI DI FUNGHI - excellent, as always. BRANZINO was as good as ever (if a bit on a dry, plain side).
A great romantic atmosphere
Michael's is the perfect place to enjoy a romantic dinner with that special someone. The food was great but the service and atmosphere can't be beat. I requested a quite area in my reservation and was placed in a room where they store wine outside of the main area. The server was respectful and attentive to all our needs.
Maybe because we were not a "regular" or sit & drink wine all night people or maybe we had high expectations for the price point I gave this place fair rating. Went on a Friday night for Dine LA. The restaurant was not full but all the staff looked really busy. Had reservation, seated right away and then left alone. We had to wave someone down for water & server. That was the theme for the night. Waving someone down. We weren't offered coffee or after dinner drinks with our dessert. The food is good. Loved the main dishes: the duck, pork chop can use a sauce, fish was excellent. Extensive wine list, perfect for wine lovers. Overall, for the price point, the wait staff needs to be more attentive; shorter wait time between the courses.

It was very busy for a Sunday night and it was obviously impacting our waitress. She was stretched thin but the Manager checked in with us and dos an excellent job of assisting his staff.
