About Merrick Inn
Built before the Civil War and completely remodeled in 1936 by the Cal Milam family, the Merrick Inn served as the manor house for one of Lexington"s finest horse farms.
It was here at Merrick Place, that Milam and his groom, Mr. Johnson, trained the fabled "Exterminator", Kentucky Derby winner of 1918. Here also, "Tut Tut", Komuraski, Commodore, Brown Wisdom, Miss Joy, Milkmaid, McKee and Dust Flower started on their paths to fame and fortune. None of these, however, gained such widespread fame as Merrick himself. Merrick finished in the money 157 times, winning 62 races.
The Merrick Inn has been owned and operated by the Murray family for nearly 40 years. Offering the finest in traditional southern dining and innovative specials. Times have changed, but we believe the beauty and charm of our inn remain the same.

Food was good but disappointed to be stuck in a back room with several tables and we were the only ones seated in there ...we were a table of 5. You go for the atmosphere and there was none because of that. We saw several empty tables as they took us to this room in the back.
Our favorite restaurant in Lexington
We have been going to the Merrick Inn for nearly 20 years and it has never been a disappointment. The prices are reasonable, the quality is always great, the staff are courteous, professional and quick. The property is well maintained and is a slice of Bluegrass equine history. If you haven't been, you're missing out. Prices are more than fair.

We have been going to MI for over 40 years and this was probably one of the worst meals we have had there. My wife and our SC friends all had the prime rib special and my wife said hers was the worst she had ever eaten any where-tough and very thin. Our friends did not comment so we did not bring this up. I had Hot Brown which was OK but not something I would order again. Salad great as always. Green beans not like Libby fixed all those years-some what al dente not good old southern cooked.
Love the Merrick Inn!
The Merrick Inn is a staple in Lexington. It is a nice place to have an upscale dinner. Often frequented by locals as it is off the regular path! We had a party of 10 that ordered a variety of entrees from soup/salad to fried chicken to filet. Everyone was pleased! I would highly recommend. Patio is also great, but you cannot make a reservation for the patio so go early if you'd like to sit outside.
Merrick Inn is a gem
Merrick Inn is an oldie but goodie - and still good after all these years. Always worth a trip. Lots of food for the money
Great food, service, and atmosphere. CAN'T wait until I return to Lexington.
Outstanding location with great food.
Merrick Inn is very established and romantic and special as well. Service and food were superb. I highly recommend for guests as well as locals. This restaurant makes you feel like you have been to Lexington and felt the atmosphere of the racing and horse lovers. Very professional and menu is varied with a great list of wines and desserts.
Early Saturday Evening
Lovely, charming setting with elegant Southern food. Outstanding service for our party of three. Our waitress and my wife spoke of their experiences as teachers. Three different entrees, all excellent. Wonderful evening and we look forward to returning soon.

Replacement for Jonathans
Looking for a menue with Southern focus to replace our former favorite-Jonathans. The menu truly had a great variety so that anyone could find something. Drinks were super and they had Shrimp and Grits--it was a great find and we will make it our annual during the Horse Races in Lexington
Great food great service!!
Everything was great! Reservation was for 7:45 on a Saturday night we walked I at 7:40 and were seated immediately .
Great Food, Terrific Service and Romantic Ambiance
We attended the restaurant after spending the day at the Keeneland Race Track. We were attended promptly and led into a room with a mood setting lighting. The service began immediately and we ordered pre-dining cocktails. They were perfect. We then began our dining experience and the food matched cocktails. I had a rib eye steak cooked exactly as I ordered and it was as tasty as it looked. My wife had stuffed chicken breast that was mouth watering. All in all a very good evening to an enjoyable day.
Everything about Merrick Inn is fabulous-- from the decor, to the service, to the OUTSTANDING food and drink selection. This is easily one of the best restaurants in Lexington!
After a spectacularly beautiful day at Keeneland, the Merrick Inn was the perfect place for dinner. The bread pudding was amazing as well as the spinach and tomato casserole. I intend on trying to recreate the casserole as soon as possible at home. Only drawbacks were being seated by a very loud, large party and that they were out of corn pudding.
Our second visit in two years. Our group travels to Lexington for horse racing at Keeneland the second week of April. We enjoyed it so much the past year we returned and were not disappointed.

Your bartender does NOT know how to make a Moscow Mule! He/She completely fouled up a very simple and delicious cocktail!
After the races
This was our 45th visit to Merrick Inn. It is our favorite restaurant after a day at Keeneland. We have been coming since 1971. We love the food and the atmosphere. Entrees are prepared perfectly; my salmon was cooked to order: medium rare! A favorite year-in, year-out is the Walleye Pike.

All the food was excellent but do your party a favor by ordering at least one grouper finger appetizer for each person.....scrumptious
Over the years Merrick Inn has consistently provided an excellent traditional dining experience. Our favorite entree is the walleye pike. Our recent dinner was not a disappointment. Merrick Inn still delivers. Great service and excellently prepared food.

I have been to the restaurant twice now and it has been excellent. I will go every time I'm in Lexington. The food is fresh and delicious. Service is great and atmosphere is quaint and relaxing. One of my favorite restaurants ever. Price is very fair for what you get.
We have been visiting the Merrick Inn for the past 9 years during Keeneland and Derby weekend. It's one of our two favorite restaurants in the Lexington area, and it never disappoints! The food is always excellent, and the service as well. Will be returning in May during Derby weekend!

Everything was excellent, but the prices are ridiculously high. I'd love to eat there more often, but the prices keep me away unless there's a very special occasion and I have a gift card to apply toward the total. Please make it more affordable for more people to come more often.
Merrick inn is a classic not to miss!
Great Food and great service whether you sit inside in the Resturant, at the bar or outside on the patio! So many good things on the menu...you can go often and not get tired of eating here!
30+ years of personal dining. Always top notch!!
I always plan special occasions at Merrick Inn. I have never had a negative experience nor a ho-hum meal. You have a customer for life!
Very good food and fabulous customer service!
I got together with a friend I hadn't seen in 13 years and never once were we rushed and long after the bill was payed the server continued to serve us coffee and water throughout the evening. Impressive! Excellent customer service!
Best of Lexington
Merrick Inn was truly one of the best dinning experiences we've had in Lexington. The food was outstanding and the atmosphere was superb. My favorite is the ever-changing bread pudding!
I came for Easter dinner with friends and had a wonderful experience. Food was delicious, service was awesome!

We always have a great experience here. Great food. Exceptional service. Outstanding atmosphere.
This was my first visit to the Merrick Inn and I loved it . Its a delightful old house and a very relaxing atmosphere. Some very good appetizers such as green tomatoes with ham salad. I loved it. I had pecan crusted chicken and the sauce on the plate was great. Took home my chocolate bread pudding and enjoyed it later that evening. I will certainly return to this wonderful restaurant.

Not our style
Have lived near Lexington almost 5 years and have heard Merrick Inn was the place to go. Finally we arrived for a 7:45 Saturday night reservation. Seated at 8:10, not too bad. Enjoyed drinks while we waited. Main dining room is really loud. Several full tables all trying to talk over each other. We could not hear ourselves in our "inside" voices so our conversations were literally one sided. We ordered the beer cheese and the artichoke dip. While both good, the artichoke dip was just warm. That would set the tone for the rest of the meal. Just warm. Each dish (5 total) arrived literally just warm. Fried chicken was room temp. Our son said it was good, just not hot. Prime rib good, again room temp. Salmon was over cooked. Shrimp and grits were dry and shrimp over cooked. The grouper special looked amazing and the grouper was, but it was smothered in a lobster/shrimp soufflé that really was bad. Just bad. The asparagus was cold (all 3 orders) and the corn pudding was again, room temp. The building is cool and the server was great but the food was really just not what we were looking for. I imagine if you are looking for prime rib this would be the place, but that's about all we can recommend.
Dinner with student
Excellent restaurant. We go to the Merrick Inn every time we are in Lexington. There is no better restauarant.
It was my 5th times dinner at the MERRICK inn during a year. Every time was good.

Fabulous first rate experience. Alex at front is an incredible personality and took great care of us
This was our first visit here. Beautiful location, valet was an added bonus. Our server was very informed & provided excellent service throughout our meal. I had the special which was prime rib, cooked a perfect medium rare. Without a doubt one of the best prime rib meals I've ever had. My fiancé had the famous fried chicken which was absolutely amazing. Our sides included delicious southern green beans, mixed greens & her favorite the glazed carrots. The noise level was higher than I had hoped for, but it was a busy Saturday night. We cannot wait to return for another meal. A true gem in Lexington!
Great Finish !!
Our dinner at Merrick Inn was a great finish to a great day in Lexington. First UK won their men's basketball game and the perfect dinner sealed the deal. Food was great and our server Tina was the best.
