Lobster pot pie was wonderful. My big disappointment was my gin and tonic(s). A place known for martinis should have better cocktails. It was no better than a corner bar.
Relatives from out of town
We heard about Melvyns from a local and couldn't wait to try it out. Absolutely no disappointment! We had relatives visiting from out of town so took that as an opportunity to show them a fabulous eating experience in Palm Springs. We will go back and we won't wait for out of towners next time!

The service was very, very good. The atmosphere (while dated) was very nice (old school). I loved the meals that were prepared table side. The portions were not large and could have been slightly better but overall, this was a wonderful meal and a nice place to go. Lots of history there.
After dinner we made our way back to the bar and the piano player there is just incredible he was playing oldies and the crowd is mostly ion their fifties thru seventies. It kind of reminded me of the Beverly Hills Mastro's before it became a chain.
Special in every way!
We were married at the attached Ingleside Inn and had our wedding reception at Melvyn's. It's a special place to visit and we always enjoy the staff that we met back in 2001. We brought a friend to share our always lovely experience and she loved it! No surprise. We all enjoyed our delicious cocktails and dinner. We will always return for more! Our only disappointment was the Vegas style pool party for the Coachella Festival attendees across the driveway. We couldn't hear the music once we were inside, but getting to the valet stand was an unfortunate chore. The party goers appeared to be very intoxicated and barely able to walk on their own to get out of the way of folks driving in to dinner.
Great Lunch Menu, Large Portions
Some old favorite sandwiches, done very well. Had to wait for about 20 minutes after our reservation time to be seated, but could have had a drink in their very nice bar area. Very nice and seasoned staff, prompt service and food was done just right. We've been here before and find that Melvyn's doesn't disappoint.

Old world Palm Springs/Hollywood
A Palm Springs classic. Frank Sinatra used to sit at the bar. It is a charming and perfect for a family together. The food was excellent and the entrees include a salad or soup. I find that to be good value! One of my favorite places in the desert and I am a local!

Great spot for Easter brunch. Service was almost impeccable falling short only with the wrong entree served for one of the dining party. Food was good but fell short; perhaps due to the pre-set EASTER menu and high volume of servings. We want to return on a non-holiday to get a better idea of the kitchen's skills. Nevertheless we all had a wonderful experience.

This is one of our favorite restaurants! We have been there many times and enjoy the food and the ambiance. This time however, the service we received was not very good at all. The waiter was very forgetful, slow and ruined our dining experience. Not sure what the problem was but we have never had bad service there so it was very surprising.

Our family of 10 enjoyed Easter Brunch. We were treated royally even with 4 children under age 4!
Outdated and overpriced
Went for Easter Brunch, opening fruit plate the melon was hard and unripened . Osso buco was tough and chewy and the veggie and potato sides were cold...and all this For 39.95...very disappointed
Very nice, old-fashioned, elegant restaurant. Food was good although my chicken marsala could have been more tender. Great service; one waiter noticed I was using my phone flashlight to read and lent me a penlight to use instead. I felt very well treated.

Old fashioned ambiance
Melvyn's has the old fashioned movie style charm of the 50's and 60's. Accompanying that is fantastic service and wonderfully prepared food. We have been there a few times on special occasions. This time it was my spouse's birthday. It was, as usual, a wonderful experience, and we will definitely be back.

Veal Oscar and salmon entrees, as well as the "premium" $13 glass of cab (only two choices of wineries) were bland at best, an overall disappointment. We enjoyed the dining room ambiance, a throwback to the 50's. Wait staff were attentive.
Ok but not great
I had the sole, it was good, not fantastic as the bartender said it would be. My husband had the lobster pie, the lobster was tough and stringy.

last time I waited, for over an hour, which was much too long! Have been there many ties, and this is the first time I have waited at all. Great place! Fabulous atmosphere, food and service! Thank you
Made a 7:00 reservation weeks ahead for me and out of town guests. We were ushered into the back room somewhat bruskly to wait for our table. Waited unti 7:45 with still no indication of when we would be seated so we left. I did receive a follow up apology the next day but should have been offered some compensation to entice coming back.
Not up to snuff
We got there at 6:45pm for a 7pm reservation...long wait, obnoxious maitre'd, over booked between the online reservations and call ins to the point Melvyn came in and left almost immediately leaving his wait staff to deal with LOTS of disgruntled patrons. We were finally seated after an 1 1/2 hour wait...service was slow, maitre'd was rude, food was not very good...should have known when we made the reservation on Weds. and there were available tables before and after that that was a BAD sign....place was packed and it seemed EVERYONE was waiting...it even took 10+ minutes for us to get our check after we asked for it...leaving my husband asked the maitre'd if we wanted to be seated at 7PM what time we needed to make reservations he said 6:15pm and to get there at 6PM when they opened...Bar was lively but we were not there for the bar...

Trades heavily on its former glory as a celebrity hot spot, but Melvyn's better days are sadly behind it.
We had a lovely evening here. the food , service and ambiance were excellent. Melvyn's provides a great place to relax and enjoy the company of my better half!

I was a bit underwhelmed. Great entrance and valet but after a warm welcome our experience changed. Our waiters have been doing there job way to long. The reason we came was to be served at the table and when we requested the wilted salad we were told to have the salad that comes with your entree ? This could be so much better with more engaging waiters. The food was OK :/
Good ambiance; OK food
The place was packed when we finished dinner on a Friday night, so obviously this restaurant is liked by many. My veal chop was tender and tasty, but my companion's almandine fish was boring. We had the soufflé for desert. It stayed up nicely, since it was a very solid baked merengue, but the GM sauce was rather thin. Would not recommend.
Loved This Restaurant
Made reservations Inadvance, when we arrived was greeted with a very friendly valet. We were a little early and ordered cocktails in the bar. The waitress was very polite and that started a evening that we won't soon forget. Everything was outstanding and we are still talking about Melvyn's. When in Palm Springs please put this on your buck list.

Service was fantastic. I had the Steak Poivre and it was great. Finished tableside with cream and cognac. Girlfriend had pork tenderloin with shrimp and she loved it. Melvyn's knows how to serve the customer and make you feel really special. We did.
Everything was perfect from valet...to seating...to food...to service...spot on! We love being spoiled at Melvyn's! Thank you!
As always, Melvyns delivered! I have been going to Melvyns since 1987when my parents took me for the first time. They were Snowbirds from Canada and wintered in Palm Springs. Now I winter in Palm Springs and go to Melvyns every year for Sunday Brunch bringing along new people along the way! The Eggs Benedict are delicious! And my party are always very satisfied with what they order. Atmosphere is unique and outstanding service.

We came on time they would not seat us because our entire party was not there , I asked to be seated anyway they seemed unhappy at the reuest
We sat in the garden room for lunch at it was a delightful setting. The French onion soup and vichyssoise were delicious starters. The sole picatta and chicken picatta dishes were lightly breaded, and I found that strange (usually picatta dishes are sauteed). The sides served with the sole and chicken were delicious. All desserts are delicious!
Excellent service and classic fine dinning
Great value. The level of service far surpasses other restaurants in the price range. A touch of old glamour and romance!
Wonderful old Palm Springs feel. Reservations made for 730, our table available one hour late. Service and atmosphere was legendary. Would not hesitate to go back again!
