The food was good but one would expect that of a 2 Michelin starred restaurant. What really impressed was the attentive service. The tables are not cramped together. So the room felt very spacious. The Egg Caviar and the lobster bolognaise are their signature dishes and they live up to the hype.

Lobster bolognese is the most delicious pasta dish! Foie gras, prime rib eye, duck and wagyu beef are also excellent.
Great as always
Great food. Always impressed with Chef Citrin's menu. Wish we lived closer so we could come more often.
Great meal on my first visit there. Had the Carte Blanche option and it was one of the best meals I've ever had. Lived up to the expectations, which is sometimes difficult. Service was impeccable, attentive but not overbearing. Wine list was fantastic, great recommendations from sommelier (stay French, long list, went with bottle of Chablis and a bottle from Cote Rotie). A very balanced, exciting meal.
This restaurant well deserves its two star rating and clearly caters to people who enjoy . exquisite food, exquisitely prepared, served by well- informed, but unpretentious staff. Unlike most of LA's restaurants, we were able to enjoy our 4 course dinner without shouting. What a novelty. Thank you for the elegance.
Fantastic food, we were really impressed. Everything was so tasty, specially caviar egg. It was one of the best dishes I ever tried. Surely worth a few Michelin stars.
For Something and /Or Someone Special !
It was a BIG birthday for the Mrs., to be shared only with her Brother and Partner and me- we opted for the 10 Course tasting menu- it was fabulous! What creative foods- and flavors. It was beautifully presented by an excellent and attentive staff- yet never overbearing or intrusive. I have heard otherwise, and some reviews complained about lengthy delays between courses. Perhaps it was a night when the restaurant was full or too many arrived at the same time- or a weekend. For us- we came early on a Wed. night, 3 hours later is was 75% occupied- perfect service all night. Its expensive- but for a big occasion, well worth it !
Bliss at Melisse
Our 20th anniversary dinner at Melisse was all good. The deconstructed grape amuse bouches, amused. The basil brioche was very clever, and the French rolls were á point, with excellent Beurre de Barratte. The Stonington scallops with perigourdine were nicely sweet, and the truffle crust on the asparagus was as agreeable as it was clever. Still, we had to go for a fish course, and the lemon-crusted Dover sole was too hard to resist. What a classic presentation, what a tasty dish. Meuniére was superior, boning was well done, little gnocchi were a nice touch. And then the superb roast chicken, truffle-stuffed and in two services, with the excellent sauce Albufera and the morilles (my favorites) and the potato mousseline. This was already a lot of food, but since Melisse has a proper chariot de fromages, we had to! We finished with a souffle of chocolate, and one of tangerine. We brought a couple of special bottles, but the wine list is quite thoughtfully chosen, and we added some half bottles of Champagne Jose Dhondt and of a very good Savennieres from Baumard, as well as glasses of Quarts de Chaume and Bual. (Corkage is a bit steep at $100 per, but the restaurant kindly forgave the charges.) Kitchen, waitstaff & sommelier were all on their game. Could not have asked for a better celebration! LA is lucky to have a restaurant of the caliber of Melisse.
Service was very marginal, absolutely not close to Michelin star restaurant.

Too expensive. The food was mediocre. Dinner lasted 3 whole hours for no reason.
Amazing Fine Dining Experience
Melisse was a very refreshing experience from the usual LA restaurants. The food was unique, fresh, and very tasty. The wine selection was great and our server was very knowledgeable about the ingredients and had a great recommendations. The desserts were just amazing! I did the vegetarian tasting menu and I was delighted that they had great food that I could feel happy about. My friends did the regular tasting menu and they said it was some of the best foods they have ever had. But is it definitely expensive so something to consider...

Amazing fare. Knowledgeable staff. Only comments: tempo of service was off. Too fast then delays. Then, wine should not be removed when the bottle is not quite finished! Great experience overall.
Incredible restaurant, best food I have ever eaten
I've eaten at some high-end restaurants, plenty of one and two star Michelin restaurants and Melisse has the best food I’ve ever tasted. My fiancé and I opted for the four course tasting menu and brought our own bottle of wine (they’ll waive the corkage fee if you buy a half bottle from their restaurant). The service and our waiter were also incredible and had great suggestions and descriptions of the food. The food plus the incredible service made this one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had, if you don’t mind spending some coin (our bill was still $450 before tip), this is a must-do for your list.
Very good but not excellent
Our first courses were excellent. Our second commercials were only average. Our entrées were excellent. The champagne selection was excellent. Service was superb
This is the place to go if you wish to ruin every other dining experience you ever had. Outstanding food beat only by the service. If it is not the best restaurant in LA, I don's know what is. The only downer will come when the check arrives but you will still leave feeling really great about the experience.
An exquisite dining experience
From the moment we walked through the front door, we felt pampered and special. The service was impeccable, with teams of waitstaff delivering interesting, delicious food. The dishes were creative takes on classics, and were absolutely divine. I highly recommend this restaurant for special occasions and to treat oneself. Be prepared ahead of time to spend a lot of money, so you can forget about the cost for a couple of hours and just order what you want. It was the most expensive meal I had ever had, but the experience was worth it! The cheese plate was a fun experience in itself.
PRICEY BUT PHENOMENAL
It was without doubt the most amazing food and wine and experience. Josiah Citrin menu and Ken Takayama are great chefs and culinary artists. Fresh Ingredients and exquisite presentation. I look forward to taking the love of my life soon to a great culinary adventure. It was too expensive unfortunately but it was really worth every penny. Save up on a night to remember.
I was hesitant at first to make a reservation due to the notable costs associated with the meal, but when thinking of this meal as a dining experience as opposed to just another date night it definitely was worth the cost. Having been lucky enough to have eaten at Momofuku Ko and Per Se I was impressed with how well balanced each course turned out as well as how the meal read like a NYT bestseller. By the end of the night you are not overly full and your experience definitely should prepare you for a quiet trip home to reminisce about the wonderful dinner.

A very special diner
I went here with my husband for a special night out. The service was outstanding. We did the wine pairing with the food and it was definitely a highlight. The food was very good. We had a great time and very much enjoyed our dinner here. We was definitely pricey but we were expecting it to be based on previous research.
OMG -- You must go there!
Absolutely wonderful!! If you have that special occasion you want to be memorable, bring your loved one(s) here. Though there may be set menus, Chef de Cuisine, Ken Takayama is open to and up to the challenge of any dietary restrictions.
Two Michelin stars earned
Melisse is a longtime French restaurant in Los Angeles with a reputation for upscale French dining a la Paris. All aspects of my experience lived up to its sterling reputation. Beautiful, romantic venue, great team service, exceptionally tasty dishes and extras. As most Michelin starred restaurants it is VERY expensive. Recommended for very special occasions unless your budget can afford multi-hundred dollar dinners.

We really like the old Melisse before the remodel. New interior was too dark and tables are too close together and noisy. New menu was limited.
Predictable not creative
The food was quite enjoyable as it was well executed and cooked perfectly. However, I did hope for more creative and unique choices. Further, some of the dishes did not have full flavors but instead left me wanting more intense flavor. This was especially true for the lamb entre that had accompanying beans on the dish without any flavor or enhancement of the dish. The food was well done, but the dessert was quite typical rather than any unique flavors or textures or particular decadence. Also, we did have to request water and bread on more than one occasion. Because of these reasons, I would not return based on the value of the experience, as it is a high end and expensive meal, I would want to feel that it was a perfect experience.
food is just soso and the environment is great . Had a great time there with my friend, worth trying

We got seated right away even if we were 15 minutes early for our reservation. Attentive staff, awesome food and service!
The staff there were very friendly and enjoyable. Every crumb was quickly swiped away and every morsel of food was explained with such beauty and excitement. The food was beautiful and the taste was even better. I enjoyed the ambiance and the aesthetics of the area from the food down to the plates themselves. Truly more than just eating a meal but also an experience that one must partake in life.
The ten multi course dinner was delicious but pricey. Perfect for a very special occasion. Was surprised that the delicious looking bread wasn't served war. Like they do at capo, tavern, etc.....
food is superb. Prices are high, wine bottles start well over $100. very goiod choice if you have the money

A great dining place for couples enjoy the delish Italian food and romantic time in the late night.
Many pricey tastes
Although there were many well refined tastes, each serving was small though elegantly plated. If one prefers such an array of different tasty bites, this would be a good choice. The breads were a highlight. Service immaculate. Very pricey however

My wife and I celebrated our one year wedding anniversary at Melisse and everything was perfect. When we first walked in my wife mentioned it felt like a spa, and it was a welcoming, relaxing atmosphere with impeccable staff and absolutely no pretense at all. The food was superb with precise wine pairings that spanned the globe indicating a lot of care and thought, while the pours were perfect. It exceeds the French Laundry in our opinion. We left wanting for nothing (except for another dinner at Melisse).
Amazing restaurant for a special occasion
The food was amazing. We did the Ten and each course was filled with texture and flavors that were absolutely delightful. It was pricy but we sat near the fireplace and had the room to ourselves for over an hour. The staff was attentive and informed. The wine they suggested was perfect.
Take your whole bonus check!
Excellent food, service, and ambiance. Great for a special occasion if you're ready to spend a LOT of money.
Refined yet easy
By far the best meal I have had in Los Angeles. We went several years ago to function with a set menu and loved it then promising to return to sample the items on the menu. What can I say, outstanding in all aspects. Food, service and decor were excellent and we loved the fact that you could actually converse with your diner partner without having to shout. Highly recommend a visit. It is not inexpensive, yet fully worth the tab. Bravo!
My boyfriend and I came here for our anniversary and I must say, we made a great choice! First off, valet is $8.50. We arrived at 6:15, the early the better unless you are a late eater. We were greeted with 2 small boxes of chocolate truffles. Our waiter was J Francios, he was amazing! He did a great job explaining every dish (he could tell it was our first time). We ended up getting the 10... it is about a 3-hour meal, people aren't joking, but it sure didn't seem like it, which I loved! They really think about the timing of each meal. You may think you will be hungry after seeing the portion sizes, but I can tell you my boyfriend and I definitely were not. The food served can be light but used with quite rich ingredients. If you are a fan of wanting to try a bit of everything this is the place to be! One of my favorite dishes was the Truffle Risotto; it was not as heavy or rich as expected (it's a good thing). Another favorite was the Egg, Caviar and Creme Fraiche... perfection of all three combined! To end the night we were surprised by a dish of small sweets, the macaroon was the most amazing thing I have ever had. I have had my fair share of macaroons and this by far is the best! Overall, fantastic service, food and experience; one for the books.
The overall experience was excellent.
The overall experience was excelleng. The food was 8 out of 10. The service was extremely attentive, all the courses served was thoroughly explained in great detail. One thing that I was dissappointed about was 1 of the dessert course that had a slice of tangerine in it, first bite I took had a pit in it. Not what I expected from a 2 Michelin star rated restaurant. Not a big deal for me but it might be for others.
Melisse missed the mark on NYE
NYE was my second dining experience at Melisse; however, unlike my first visit, the courses weren't memorable, some of the food tasted under seasoned and even stale, and entrees like lobster were tough and over cooked. Further, our party of 4 was at the first of two seatings and the service seemed clunky (two courses served without an explanation of what we were eating), and when we didn't exit immediately following dessert, all wait staff eyes were on us to a point where we felt rushed and uncomfortable. Next time I want to drop $1,500 on a meal, I'll get a reservation at Providence.

The dinner was superb, with many interesting and succulent courses. While we are not necessarily dessert people, our dessert was extraordinary. Strong service, great dining experience.
We celebrated our birthdays at Melisse and were pleased by 5 course prix fix and wine paring. The fois gras was to die for!
