WOW! I'm in LOVE!

Dined on April 23, 2016

After wanting FOREVER to get to Marinitas, my first time did not disappoint. It actually EXCEEDED my expectations! The food was beyond wonderful! My husband had carnitas, and I had the salmon. Both were perfectly prepared and the flavors of each dish were wonderfully balanced and each bite was heaven. Marinitas is my new favorite Latin/Mexican restaurant and I come from Southern California where the bar is held high for this cuisine. The whole look and feel of the restaurant was great. Beautifully appointed, I could not pull my eyes away from all the corners of the room. There was a terrific energy and a very unique decor which was really fun and comfortable. I forgot to ask about the Santas and Jack o' lanterns tucked about here and there!

Lovely as usual

Dined on March 18, 2016

Stopped by on Thursday and they had house margaritas and guacamole on happy hour, yum! We did our usual fish and steak tacos with a marinitas salad. The house Tabasco is amazing on the tacos. Our son did his usual quesadilla but he loves the variety of salsas that come with the chips.

We hadn't been to Marinitas for a couple of years so we thought we'd give it a shot. It is basically unchanged. Same menu...consistently good food....very family oriented so not really a "date night" scene. It would be nice if they had some specials to make it special. We'll probably go back in two years!

Fish Tacos!

Dined on March 5, 2016

I come here frequently and always order the same thing, Fish Tacos, which are just the right size and seasoned not too spicy which is how I like them. The Saturday pork special is great too. Wines by the glass not outrageously priced.

Great for family and adult fun!

Dined on February 13, 2016

Nice layout for people-watching, separate bar with a lively scene overall. Kids more in early hours changing to adult centered later. A bit noisy for conversation sometimes but worth it for the upbeat energy! We had great service and some interesting yet affordable dishes, just delicious!

We were there for lunch on a Tuesday. The Wait staff was professional, courteous & attentive without being overly pushy. Our Waiter was very knowledgable about the History of the former restaurant there, which we found interesting. My vegetarian platter was AMAZING, as was my grapefruit marguerita!

A new Best Mexican

Since the change at Las Camelias in San Rafael we've been searching for a go-to Mexican restaurant in Marin. We found it at Marinitas. The venue is warm and inviting, the food and margaritas were excellent, and the service was spot on.

The food is always good. The hostess was very curt and not personable. Tonight the wait staff was running around unfocused when we needed something and overly eager to clear the table after they serve us making us feel like they needed the table. Not relaxing, not dining. A place to eat.. To bad because the place has the space and the food. Management needs to have a sit down with the staff

What a wonderful spot for unique Mexican cooking. Homemade tortillas, chips and salsa. Even hot sauces from scratch! One of my favorite restaurants in Marin.

Chicken and potato tacos were superb. This is not your run of the mill mexican restaurant. A thoughtful menu - demonstrating that quality not quantity is what counts at Marinitas. I'm going back.

Continually Outstanding!

Dined on October 24, 2015

Marinitas remains one of our favorite restaurants in Marin. The food is outstanding, the service is amazing, and the drinks are great. We continue to love it every time we go there -- whether for dinner for the two of us or with out-of-town guests, for lunch or an early dinner with our kids, or for take-out. We remain loyal patrons. Thanks for such consistently amazing food and great service, Marinitas!

Amazing Food and Wonderful Service!

Dined on October 11, 2015

The food at Marinitas was out of this world! The flavors were vibrant and exciting, the textures delightful, and I just had the feeling I was sharing a meal made by someone who cared about me, and who was introducing me to a cuisine they truly loved. The service, as well, was the best I have ever had. Our waitress seemed to actually enjoy us, it felt like she was glad that we were there, and yet the whole experience was so casual, I was comfortable in my own skin. I have eaten a lot of good food in my time, but I don't know if I've ever had a more enjoyable meal. We left the restaurant buzzy with a sense of well-being and joy. And we didn't try the tequila menu, so it wasn't from that! The prices were completely reasonable and the serving sizes were filling. It's noisy, but our table felt intimate. Five star recommend!

Another Lunchtime Win

Dined on September 1, 2015

As usual, the food and service were both a delight. We ordered Guacamole, the Tamales de Pollo, and the Tacos Dorados de Pollo. All good. The tamales were presented beautifully, an unusual presentation -- but it works. Helpful and relaxed service. My companion enjoyed a n always tasty house margarita. We passed on dessert today, but hope to catch up on that another day.

My GF and I were looking for Mexican food near Ross so I used my handy OpenTable app to find this place. I had no clue it was so near and was quite surprised that not only was the food delicious but the service was outstanding to match. The staff was very friendly and accommodating to us. Try it when you're in the area, you own't be disappointed!

Love the carnitas

Dined on July 13, 2015

They don't have a huge menu, but what they have is very good. I always order the carnitas - served over a bed of beans and salsa (Pico de gallo?) My wife loves the chile relleno - gives it 5 stars. The house margaritas are very good, as is their guacamole.

marinitas

Dined on June 19, 2015

Nice evening overall which was a very special occasion for our guests. We arrived about 15 minutes early at 7:15 and watched our reserved table set and open until our reservation time of 7:30. It bothered our guests and there wasn't an area to sit. Our guests politely requested two separate checks which was nicely agreed to by our server, however the final check was combined and then all that was offered was a split. The split on each check also displayed a gratuity suggestion based on the total amount of both checks which confused our guests and can easily be misinterrupted and overpaid. The food and service were other wise very good. Noise level is high.

Not 'traditional' Mexican food

Dined on June 16, 2015

I guess we like more 'traditional" Mexican food. I love chile rellenos but this was stuffed with diced sweet potato and was o.k. but not like the cheese stuffed peppers that I love. They did add some sliced komquot which was nice however. My friend had duck tacos and said it was good, but my husband didn't like the beef enchiladas at all. The margaritas tasted like lemonade, but their salsa and chips were very good.

Service mediocre.

Dined on May 7, 2015

The service was slow and not attentive. We had to ask the server for more water. The backserver took away our utensil after the starter and did not replace them. When the server ask we wanted more chips we replied yes and he forgot about it. When the mains arrived and server did not notice we had run out of salsa and we had to flag someone down to ask for more salsa. etc.

Over the top Mexican

vip
Dined on May 6, 2015

This is a find. Fresh, tasty, creative (and healthy!) takes on Mexican favorites. Mexican salad was fresh, generous and we still wanted more. The fish tacos were not greasy - perfectly cooked and seasoned on a sumptuous corn tortilla. The sangria was tasty and strong. If that hadn't worked - there's a full bar! Not one complaint. Will be back, and soon!

Not your typical South of the Border restaurant

Dined on April 1, 2015

Marinitas savors the unusual......a chilli rellaño with kumquats to give a sharp sweet/sour burst.....guasacaca (sp?) and steak...haven't had that since living in Venezuela...or in my own home. The place is exciting, lighting fantastic, and one never tires of exploring the decor, the niches and mirrored images that provide a visual feast to complement the exquisite dining.

Lunch Perfection

Dined on March 26, 2015

House-made warm tortilla chips, chile relleno -- not batter-fried and stuffed with butternut squash, plato vegetariano, and an order of carnitas -- what more could 3 people who get together once a year want from a lunch -- except perhaps a pitcher of house margaritas! With a sweet waiter and friendly staff. Can't go wrong. What a gem.
