About Maison - Lancaster
An intimate, farm driven, urban cookery.
In its most simple form, we are in the business of feeding people. A business that we love and take a great deal of pride in and an act at the core of what it is to be human. To us, there is nothing more satisfying that inviting you: our friends, family, farmers and neighbors into our home, nourishing you with soul satisfying food and allowing you to escape the rigors of daily life…if just for a short time.
To us passion, hard work and love all fall into the same category. We have taken the dichotomy of "work life' and 'real life' and distilled them into one—we live above the restaurant. The people we know and love are all around us, we share our home with them and couldn't be happier about it.

Maison - Lancaster Ratings and Reviews
Our 2nd time dining at Maison, once in December 2015 and again in April 2016. Both times the food and service were wonderful. The room is a bit crowded, but manageable. Note that it is BYOB, but the corkage fee is only $5, so if you like wine bring a wine you like! The menu can vary it appears, since it's only on a chalkboard on the wall. Our table was in the corner so we took phone pictures to review at our table. Every dish and dessert we've had has been great, so once you're over the menu hurdle and ordered all is well. highly recommend if you are in the Lancaster area.
Disappointed based off raving reviews by most
I was disappointed with the food at Maison. I ordered the gnocchi. It came with an over easy egg on top. In my opinion the flavor of the egg overwhelmed my palate. I could barely taste the gnocchi. When I could get a tasting of the gnocchi with the sauce and mushrooms without the egg, or runny yolk it was good. My husband ordered the halibut and was not overly impressed. Based on the prices of this restaurant I definitely expected more from the food.

Outstanding dining experience food was amazing! I would highly recommend the dessert !
Love this place.
Its perfect for a date night for couples who love food. Very fresh, perfectly seasoned and cooked. Wide variety to choose from.
We always enjoy our time here.
The ever changing menu is always great. The food always comes out fresh. The serving staff did a great job again, as always.
Delightful dining experience
Top notch service and the food was exceptional. Will definitely recommend and will be back.
Chose this restaurant prior to a show at the Ware based on reviews we had read..... Sadly our experience was a huge disappointment...we found it pretentious and loud....and the food just not good!!
Best food I've had in a long time
This little byob restaurant is the place to visit for great food. Our dishes were perfectly seasoned and the service was attentive but not overbearing. We decided to check this restaurant out again after Alton Brown tweeted about their mushroom gnocchi and he was right! The dish was perfectly seasoned and really delicious! The chocolate hazelnut dessert we also had was also really good as well as the veal entree. I would highly recommend this restaurant!
Truly special Lancaster dining experience
You can taste the care and love the Mason's deliver on your plate at what has quickly become, one of my favorite places to eat. The small menu is carefully crafted to deliver an experience, fuelled by truly local ingredients. Each course is a carriage of savory deliciousness with local flair, and a cacophony of flavor. Central PA is lucky to have such a place that delivers above and beyond this area's rather modest culinary expectations.
Best food in Lancaster
No place in Lancaster has better food. The ever changing menu always pleases.

We always love our visits here. Nothing like since my exactly the way you like to be treated!
Not that great!
We had dinner last week and were very disappointed. First of all, I checked the menu online. When we got there it was completely different and very few selections. They ran out of an item. This seems to happen each time we eat there. For what we got for dinner I was really surprised how high the bill was. Especially when it's BYOB! Many complained that their clothing smelled greasy when they got home. Frankly we were all disappointed! Lots of restaurants in that price range in Lancaster. Not sure I'll choose Maison again.
Everyone at our table enjoyed their appetizers and entrees. We also liked that the menu items were not the same thing you see everywhere else these days. The food is fresh, delicious and different without being odd. The service was attentive and friendly. Our only suggestion would be a better exhaust system, we smelled a little like the fryer when we left. We highly recommend this gem.

I really enjoyed my dining experience at Maison. The inside was small and intimate, which I liked, and not too noisy. I love BYOBs, so that was the icing on the cake for this place. We ordered the mushroom gnocchi and the swordfish for our entrees- both work cooked perfectly and full of flavor. For dessert, we ordered the butter cake which was my favorite part of the meal. So yummy! I highly recommend this neighborhood gem.
Best Dinner in Lancaster
We visited Maison for a special occasion dinner. We have been several times before and it is one of our go-to restaurants for this type of event. The food is absolutely incredible. We were a party of three and shared three small plates and could not decide which one was the best. Our entrees were incredibly flavorful--we agreed that my daughter's veal lasagnetta was the best. We have lived abroad in Italy and every time we go to Maison we feel that the food captures the spirit of rustic Tuscan cooking with fresh ingredients and flavors that we love. The smallness of the restaurant only makes it more special.
We were able to book a last minute early reservation for Valentines weekend because our babysitter changed plans. There seemed to be some sort of mix up with reservations for our seating time. We showed up at the same time as 4 other couples. We were told that a table was ours. There was some confusion with with staff, a customer left, and we were forgotten about for about 15 minutes as we watched the other couples receive service. When we finally were greeted there wasn't even a 'hello' or 'Welcome to Maison, ' just a quick question on our preference of water type. When the waitress came back with the water it was a quick, 'did you choose your options yet?' Service seemed pick up once greeted. We were not aware of the fact that it was a prefix menu before making reservations. It makes sense on Valentines weekend. The food was delicious and was obviously skillfully prepared. No coffee was even offered with dessert. $170 plus tax and out the door in a little over an hour or so for four courses even with the 15 minute wait to even be acknowledged at our table. We will enjoy John J. Jeffries next time. They offer coffee.
Taylor is extraordinarily creative, and his food just gets better and better! The Valentine's Day Weekend menu was superb. His staff is first rate as well, always knowledgeable, helpful, and courteous. Cannot wait for his new restaurant to open on West James Street!

Delicious food! Fresh. Creatively presented. Waitress friendly and knowledgable about food selections. The desserts were modest in size and exceptionally tasteful. Hope to visit again.

Bone marrow was fantastic - wild mushroom gnocchi was delicious as well, though very rich. Flavors were bold and presentation was well done. Only drawback was the limited space. I felt like I was in the way of the poor server trying to maneuver her way around. The people beside me were way to close for comfort and it felt awkward over hearing conversations.
My boyfriend and I have been going to Maison for the past three years, and have yet to be disappointed. The menu offers a variety of choices that are always changing based on the season. The staff have always been friendly and knowledgeable about the food choices, never hesitating to offer their suggestions. I would highly recommend this restaurant to those who appreciate good food that is fresh and offers support to local farmers.
The menu is always difficult to resist so I end up ordering extra plates and always finish them! If you love fresh farmed foods... yup, this is the place.
Seems to be hit or miss
We have dined here several times and have seen some dramatic swings. Not just night to night, but sometimes dish by dish the same night. This was not our best night, with my starter really lacking. I actually was not going to eat it, but my husband did ( I think more because he felt bad than because he liked it). They can turn out some fantastic dishes but also some duds. It is because of that, I have given a rather lackluster review.
Excellent service and delicious food
Amazing food and great service. I will definitely be returning.
It was okay.
My first time at Maison (I'm fairly new in town). Two friends who are foodies and classically trained ones at that, said it was the best in Lancaster. Service was very good. I thought the place had a good vibe. A little close on the seating, but that's okay. Burrata: Pretty tasty; maybe a little stingy on the burrata portions. Bone Marrow: Okay, not remarkable. Nice presentation. Veal gnocchi: My companion got this and raved about it. I had a taste - good, but way too cheesy for me. Lamb with sunchokes, potatoes, cippolinni onions, and more: Kind of disappointing. I love lamb. This was much too stringy and not very flavorful. Overcooked. The sunchokes were great, and the other vegetables were good. Hazelnut/chocolate mousse for dessert: Very good. Cool place inside, and our server - Kara, I think - was very good. I'd go back, but I wouldn't rush back. For the two of us, the bill was about $125 total. That's a little high, but not way out of line. If my lamb dish had been a homerun, I would feel like the experience had been great. The meal pretty much hung on the entrees, and mine was just okay.
This is definitely my new favorite restaurant. Everything was delicious. We will definitely be back for special occasions. I can't stop thinking about the salad with the egg on top. It was the best salad I have ever had.
Another Fantastic Meal
Everytime we visit we are amazed at the creativity of Taylor and his chefs. We have never been disappointed by the meal, and the Mussels on Toast appetizer is as good a mussel dish we have ever had.
I was so excited for my Saturday night visit to Maison... But we were so disappointed. While our server was very sweet the service was painfully slow. No menu - get up and use your phone to snap a pic of the chalk board... Really???? Slow turn over of tables meant people standing at the door with no where to go. Appetizers were good but entrees not so great. Don't think we will be making another visit - too many great restaurants to settle for so-so
love it, great food...did an open table reservation for 3 then changed it. open table did not change it at the restaurant..some glitch..ended up sharing seats..my res said 5 not sure why it did not go thru
Ma(I)son. Our favorite Lancaster Restaurant
Incredible food. BYOB. Every dish must pass the owner's inspection before it leaves the kitchen. I've dined in some fantastic places and this is one of the best.
New Year's Eve
A solid fixed price menu, though a little pricey for the area.
We have been enjoying Maison since their opening! Our meals have always been superb! However, the duck croquettes and the wild mushroom gnocchi were above and beyond anything we have had before!
Decadent date night.
Always a favorite date night spot and never disappoints!
Excellent! The food was incredible and service was great. We will highly recommend and return again soon!
Great small place for dinner.
This is a great place. We were seated quickly. Service was prompt and friendly. The menu was small but apparently changes all the time. They were more than willing accommodate the fact that I am a vegetarian. The food was beautiful. We both enjoyed the gnocchi. It was the most pillowy, tasty gnocchi I have ever tasted. The bread served with dinner was memorable. The place is very small but well decorated. We will be back.
Chef Taylor Mason is a brilliant, talented chef to which we are so lucky to have him in Lancaster. Came here for a pre-theater dinner before seeing a show at the Fulton. In and out in less than an hour and a half while eating 4 courses. Great spot and nice it being BYOB. As a fellow restaurateur, I can really appreciate the talent in Ma(i)son's food. Do not miss this spot.
Farm to table at its finest
Ma(i)son is probably one of the best restaurants I've been to in a long time! The menu is always filled with fresh seasonal selections (from local farms and suppliers too!) and the staff is warm and inviting. You never know what you'll find on the menu and I always struggle to pick just one item! Restaurant is BYOB, and reservations are pretty much required. Have nothing but good things to say about Ma(i)son in Lancaster!
I took my sweetheart here for birthday dinner after a recommendation from a friend. I am gluten free with some other weird food allergies and my partner is vegetarian. As someone with food allergies, you tend to be the "annoying" customer who has questions about everything. At Maison, our hostess/server extraordinaire was extremely well educated on the food and diligent about knowing what food I had issues with before coursing out our meal. They fed us an amazing, well curated, delicious 4 course meal that was tailored to each of us perfectly. We have since recommended the restaurant to about 6 of our friends and family. All the best wishes for your success so (selfishly) I can continue to make the trip to Lancaster to eat your amazing food.
Nice restaurant to hang out with friends
My friend recommended this place to me long time ago, but I didn't get a chance to eat there until last week. I don't usually have dinner in downtown area because of the inconvenience of parking. We parked two blocks away, not too bad. It's really a tiny restaurant with few tables, push and squeeze. The servants are busy all the time. But the food and the furnishment are pretty impressive, and the bill wasn't as expensive as I thought it would be. Worth the money, will go there again!
Maison Continues to Deliver!
Maison's fall/winter menu is first-rate, as usual! Though I had intended to try something else, I couldn't resist the home-made burrata, served with very thinly sliced persimmons on asian-pear jam with proscuitto for salty/savory contrast; it remains the best I've had. My friend's roasted cauliflower was first rate, as was my toothsome gnocchi with wild mushrooms and a hint of smoky bacon. Her lamb, served with preserved ramp aoli and various colorful vegetables, was likewise excellent. The apple-pear pie, drizzled with honey, was incredible! This is the 3rd review I've written for Maison over the past two and a half years, but I remain impressed at its consistent excellence. The only drawback: a limited menu, so for folks with strong food dislikes, it may not be the best choice. However, the limited menu enables the tiny kitchen to concentrate its effort and creativity on everything that is served. And the BYO policy keeps the price down. Maison remains my favorite restaurant in Lancaster.
