Lemaire at The Jefferson Hotel Ratings and Reviews
Good & average
Some of our food was very good, some average. My wife's mussels were very good- her strawberry ricotta maple salad was average. My Spring Lamb Porterhouse were very good & my hearts of romaine salad was good, but not outstanding. Her dessert, milk chocolate caramel bar , was not very good and she only had a couple of bites. My dessert, frozen blueberry cheesecake, was good but disappointing in that it was nothing like the cheesecake I was expecting. But all considering, the prices were not excessive.

Setting beautiful and historic restored to period time the food was presented well great tasting meal would recommend the halibut and crab cakes
My fiancee and I dined here to celebrate our engagement and were extremely pleased with the wonderful and amazing food and service. The tuna loin, in particular, was out of this world, as was the shrimp tartine.
5 star dining at the Jefferson
We had a great meal at the Jefferson's LeMaire. Food and service were great! However, the rock and roll music piped into a speaker on the other side of the dining room seemed out of place. When asked to adjust the music to something more soothing and appropriate for the setting, say Frank Sinatra or John Coltrane, nothing was done. The halogen lights from the entrance to the hotel shined into my companion's eyes. The waiter remedied that by closing the heavy floor to ceiling drapes. All together, still a 5 star dining experience.

Wonderful food and service in a gorgeous setting!
Great experience, wonderful service.
We had the pleasure of dining at Lemaire for a special occasion of friends getting together after not seeing each other for years. It was a fabulous time. There was no rush to the dinner. Each course was delivered in a timely manner but allowed us to enjoy our company and time together. Although on the higher end pricewise it was worth it. A definite place to eat in Richmond, inside a glorious hotel.
Spectacular food, with amazing taste combinations! Lovely service, impressive surroundings! It was perfect for the birthday surprise I had planned.
Loved it! I would recommend and go back in a second. The fried oysters were my favorite!
Absolutely fantastic from start to finish. Everything was just great!
Old Jefferson Hotel
Wonderful restaurant in old Jefferson Hotel, great food and service. Highly recommend. Watch out for alligators in the fountain.
Lovely and lucious
For a special occasion dining experience you just can't beat Lemaire. The food was wonderful and we even had enough for lunch the next day. We were seated by the window facing Franklin Street which was a charming view of old Richmond residences. The bar scene looked like great fun and we will be back!
Great Place to Go
This should be a must stop if in Richmond. The food was outstanding and the service was perfect.
One of Richmond's best restaurants
Never disappointed with the Lemaire at theJefferson. The food is excellent and the service is exceptional.
Sisters Night Out
We wanted to have a great meal and we wanted to contribute to a good cause. LeMaire was contributing some portion of restaurant proceeds to local good causes and that was our impetus for coming. Our meals (Tuna & Scallops) were extraordinary in taste and presentation; the appetizers (Oysters and Butter Lettuce) were delicious; last, the dessert (Pineapple Upside Down cake) was a great finish to our three-hour dining excursion.

Wonderful restaurant, undoubtedly the best ambiance and the best food in Richmond.
Every bite of this food tasted so fresh and delicious that it was hard not to try everyones dish. The prices were reasonable for this high of quality food.
Great Romantic Dinner
We had some of the best food we have had in Richmond at Lemaire. We went for my girlfriend's birthday and it was perfect.

Great Service and Delicious Food
The special, rockfish, was delicious. And the service was attentive. We enjoyed our dinner.

Outstanding food. Overpriced wine but fantastic cocktails Impeccable service.
Everything about Lemaire was outstanding. The food and service were exceptional and the historic dining room is an architectural gem.
Perfect for a special occasion
We treated our adult children and spouses to a lovely and meaningful evening. Service was unobtrusive and informative. We enjoyed each delicious course served during our 2 1/2 hour meal. This was our first dining experience here and highly recommend. Plan to spend $100 per person if you enjoy everything.
Best value for high end dinner
My husband and I have dined at Top of the Rock in NYC and enjoyed lavish dinners in Europe. Lemaire rivaled any dinner we have previously had while beating them all out in price. We have paid double what we paid at Lemaire for food half as good. Overly impressed with service, food, and value.
Still the best...new chef and all
I must say I was curious to see what Lemaire was going to be like after Walter Bundy...and I was impressed there was 6 specialties for the evening and I ordered the Rockfish with shrimp over some oddly shaped pasta with mushrooms...it was divine!! The new chef took the rockfish to the next level....the oysters were amazing as well...and the cheese platter was lovely but the smoked fig jam was simply to die for. Lemaire is still the finest in Richmond and the new chef has made sure it hasn't skipped a beat...
Food was very good, wine was excellent, but the Sommelier was even better, suggesting a perfect wine, but making it very clear if for any reason we were not satisfied, we could select another wine. Not a usual policy....
The loveliest restaurant in Richmond
Lemaire is not only a feast for the eyes with its beautiful decor but a feast for the tummies, too ... everything is prepared with care and deliciously ... from cocktails to dessert. Be sure you have dinner there and know you have experienced something very special.
We went for my boyfriend's birthday and our waitress, Melanie, could not have been better. Service was amazing and the food was out of this world. We had a 2 course meal with one drink and the bill was around $110.00. I live in New York and this food rivaled some of the best restaurants that I've been to in New York City. They also knew ahead of time that it was his birthday so they had printed "Happy Birthday" on the menu, and sat us at a table right by the fireplace. It was a night to remember. Job well done!
Elegant, friendly and great food
Le aired has been on our list for awhile. I took my husband there for his birthday. It started with the friendly valet service. You walk through the spectacular Jefferson lobby to the restaurant. The restaurant is lovely. The tables are far enough apart for quiet and privacy. The service was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. We both had he duck breast. It was perfectly cooked to order with beautifully balanced accompaniments of oats, cranberry and apple butter. There was a nice selection of wine by the glass. Dessert was a lovely chocolate and raspberry confection we shared.
Great Happy Birthday Dinner
I took my wife to Lemaire for her birthday. I let the restaurant know if was my wife's birthday and they seated us at a table for two in front of the fireplace, gave us menus with "Happy Birthday" printed at the top of the menu, and gave her a special desert. It was a very special evening.
Everything about this visit was terrific. Our server Mark was very knowledgable and friendly-made great suggestions. The food was a real treat-and more reasonable than you would expect.

Service was outstanding and the food was absolutely delicious. We will definitely be going back. Do yourself a favor and eat here.
Took my sister for her birthday. All facets of the evening were memorable, superb cocktails, stellar wine list, dinner to rival any that I've had with expert service (Melanie) Stately and elegant surroundings with a wealth of history as a foundation. Incredible evening.
Excellent dinning experience
Fabulous service, food, ambiance. I had a wonderful time the wine was great, the rib-eye fabulous, the service top notch and fantastic scallops. This is my third time and I will go again and again. Never had a complaint!
The actual restaurant is beautiful but the food and service does not live up. No fresh flowers, no candles, waiter was nice but not serving on the level of a high end restaurant. If you are looking for organic, farm to table modern cuisine, this is not it. There is not a lot of innovation here and I suspect a lot of gluten was thrown in to make the sauces. Very overpriced for what you are actually getting.
Very good but not great
I took my wife to Lemaire for her birthday. We split an ahi tuna appetizer that was very good. We enjoyed it. I then had the handmade egg fettucini and my wife had the filet. Mine was fantastic. Very unique and worth it. The filet was (as my wife said) something she could have made at home. It was good but not as good as would have been expected. Bottomline - we greatly enjoyed Lemaire but for everything we had heard, it did not quite live up to the expectation. We would go again though. The ambiance is amazing.
I took a very special woman there for our 1st date and not only was everything perfect but the scenery matched her beauty and I will never forget that evening. She never smiled so hard a day in her life and neither did I.
Wonderful birthday dinner!
My husband and I celebrated our birthdays here on Saturday. We had a wonderful evening. The food and service we're both excellent! I would highly recommend this place. Free valet parking as well. We are definitely planning on going back.
Had an elegant dinner with my husband to celebrate his birthday. The service was incredible. From the valet, the server, even the bus boy. Everyone made it clear that their goal was for us to enjoy our dining experience. The food was well done and all at a very reasonable price. We have already encouraged others to go and plan on returning soon.
Have been here several times and always have excellent service and food. We split the fried oysters which were wonderful. My wife had the lamb chops and I had the duck and they were both prepared perfectly. They have an inexpensive wine list with interesting choices. Our waiter recommended a wine we'd never heard of and it was excellent. The ambiance is exceptional in the main dining room. The old architecture gives it a warm and elegant feel. We try to come every holiday season to see the decorations of the old Jefferson Hotel with the giant Christmas tree. Top restaurant in Richmond, Va. without being overly pricey. Parking is provided and is easy in and out which is a challenge for Richmond restaurants. A very good choice for a special evening out. Guaranteed to impress your date.
