Legal Sea Foods - Paramus Ratings and Reviews
A Steep Decline is Quality and Service
I had not been here in several years, but the quality of the service and the food and has declined considerably. The staff lacked the professionalism one would expect for the price and caliber of this restaurant. The first impression upon entering was of a host staff dressed in very casual attire, which I found odd for a restaurant that, while not exactly fine dining, purports to be a cut above casual. Our waiter, while very personable and pleasant, clearly was not properly trained. He was noticeably unfamiliar with the menu and the wine list. I had to repeat the name of the wine I wished to order three times, and when he still didn't know what I was saying, I had to point to it on the wine list. The same went for the menu. We had questions about certain items on the menu, which he was unable to answer. He also waited until after bringing out the appetizer to bring our wine and was generally inattentive to detail. Additionally, we asked to have the rest of our entrees wrapped up to take home after dinner. When I opened up the box the next day, I noticed that he simply dumped it into a box, taking no care. Everything was all muddled together, and he even scraped in the discarded shrimp tales I had put on the side of the plate that should have gone into the trash. I expect better than this kind of behavior and lack of very basic knowledge from servers at the local diner, let alone a restaurant like Legal Sea Foods. It seems this establishment does not bother to train its staff. Moreover, the quality of the food has declined considerably. The crabcake was dry and flavorless, and the scallops and shrimp were merely salted and grilled, much like what you would get from a by-the-numbers, freezer-to-plate chain like Applebees. The dessert was also bland and tasteless. It was quite clear that everything we were served was likely frozen or prepared days in advance. This restaurant has declined considerably from what I remember and is not worth the price.

Always great food, outstanding service and wonderful wine list that's not overpriced
Fresh well prepared fish. The service was excellent. They have the best prices on wine for restaurant dining.
Food was wonderful -- problem with service
As always the food was terrific. My wife asked about a side salad as she pointed to the side salad and the waitress said there was a smaller one -- so we both ordered one; later we were surprised at the $7.50 per salad charge which was the same as the one to which my wife was pointing. When this was addressed to the manager, the manager refunded us $2.00. In our opinion $2.00 was a pittance -- yes, we were offered a desert; which we declined, but still, this was not the appropriate way to deal with the situation.
Easter with the family.
We were a party of 8. Our server was great. She took care to address my food allergies & was very calm & caring while dealing with a demanding guest in our party. The food was delicious and plentiful. Everyone enjoyed their dish. Given that it was Easter we expected a long wait...nope. They were on point with everything.
Not a Good Birthday Dinner
Our latest visit was quite ungood. waited for service for 30min, wated for water for 30min, when i order "tuna grilled" i expect a little burn, none. ordered end of evening drink pref. johnny walker black. i was told by our waitress that there was"no more black lable", really? this was my birthday dinner with friends, not a good memory.

My husband Bob and I like to frequent your establishment as often as we can, but due to distance, we don't get there as often as we like. Well, we had dinner there on Friday night and was greeted by our waiter, Rob M. I must give accolades to your choice of employees, as he was one of the kindest, warmest, courteous and efficient waiters we've had. Be rest assured, we'll be back there sooner than later. Thank you, Rob, for spoiling us!
Worth the $$$
We found a special: on February 29, order one lobster and get two. We were delighted with the food, wine and service. Although we were cramped at a tiny table next to the kitchen, this remained a very fine meal. The bar is small, and people were eating this special at the bar. We could not find a seat at the bar. The rolls were excellent and the salads were equally fine. The wine list runs from $20 -$30 +. The lobster were perfectly steamed and the servers were happy to help you with a bib. You did get two side dishes with the lobster., salad is just $2- extra as a side dish. We also enjoyed dessert, Bananas Foster, with cinnamon ice cream instead of vanilla. The crowd made this meal less than perfect, as we had trouble navigating the restaurant and rest rooms.
lobster was very good
our dinner was very good, my only negative comment is the promotion was very misleading. we all thought it was 2 lobsters for $29 to share with 2 sides. when I ordered the lobster promotion dinner all 4 received 2 lobster dinners so our dinner were $60 a couple not $29. I tried to confirm this at the time we ordered but was not given clear information. we didn't intend on spending $200 for dinner but had no choice once the bill came.
Every year my family (8 adults) gathers here to celebrate my mom's birthday. The past 2 years we have seen a decline in the attentiveness and energy level of the server. They never told us their name. This year we were not informed of any specials and no suggestions were made Several of our group ordered soup and 2 of us ordered calms on the 1/2 shell. The soups were served and devoured and still no clams. One person from the party flagged down our server to ask what happened to the clams. When they came to the table both orders were combined on one platter. Good thing the 2 people who ordered them were across from each other.

Service was great, food to die for, very accommodating! Definitely will go back. Made reservations with open table app and when we arrived our table was waiting I should say booth that we has specifically asked for.
Tried something new - a little disappointed
I tried the vegetable, rice biryani. In my opinion, there was too much rice and too few vegetables so this was a bit disappointing. I was a little disappointed that there was no wild salmon; but was aware they don't always have it. Otherwise, the food was quite good and the service was excellent.

Absolutely great service. Really good food. You are at the mall. They do a good job keeping it separate but you know you're there, and I'd say it's pricey but the food and service were great!

This place was outstanding. We got there an thought we would have to wait because it was Valentine's Day weekend but they took us right on time, a little early even. The appetizers were awesome and fairly priced. The main meal was to die for Ive shown the picture of my meal to everyone I know and they are just like "wow!" The bottle of wine we ordered was deliciously perfect. The staff was outstanding and very attentive and extremely friendly. They knew their stuff! We didn't even have room for dessert because the meals were just such of great portion ! I would definitely rate this place a 10 and recommend all my friends and family.
great food and atmosphere
First time there. Was told it was similar to Red Lobster. NO WAY!! The food was great and the prices good. The atmosphere was much nicer than a Red Lobster. Would go back again anytime.
Good Service, High Prices
The menu was very concise and offered the best choices for seafood. The prices were very high and prevented me from fully enjoying some entrees that I could have afforded elsewhere.
the thai calamari and the fried clams with the bellies are always good.
I was a little disappointed that wild salmon was not on the menu, but the other dishes were very good. The service was truly exceptional.
Really outstanding service---maybe because it was early on a Wednesday and not full of people. Moderately sized appetizer but HUGE entree portions, maybe TOO huge. My almond-encrusted salmon would have been perfect with a little less butter in the sauce. However, the accompanying spinach was not overly saturated with that same sauce.

Server was very solicitous and quick to anticipate our every need. The food was okay. We got the mussels appetizers and it was inedible because it was so sandy. The meal itself was good but the appetizer really made the balance of the evening disappointing.
I like going to this restaurant - they have good, fresh seafood. Their cioppino and casserole are always on point. The lobster bisque and clam chowder are one of the best I've tasted.

Everything was as expected from a fine seafood restaurant. We were in a rush the waitress was very accommodating to our need. Good food and great service.
Great service, delicious good.
The service was excellent. The grilled trout was delicious. The kitchen was accommodating. We would go back for sure!
Fresh and consistent seafood.
Legals is very consistent and the fish always fresh. We love the light clam chowder and thought the bill was a good value. Service was terrific and there seem to be plenty of help.
Legal Seafood: A reliable standby
We go here frequently before or after seeing at movie at the AMC Garden State Plaza. The food is always great. They consistently have the best broccoli I've ever tasted in a restaurant. The mushrooms side is also a favorite. If you're not up for fish, the salads are great and they have burgers. Sometimes the service can be a little slow, so if you're in a rush to make a movie, good idea to let your server know your time constraints.

Our Favorite "Go To" restaurant
We've never been disappointed by the meals served at Legal Seafood at The Garden State Plaza, Paramus, NJ. The food is great, the staff are great. The anjou pear cocktail - delicious! Highly recommended.
Love this place!
I am never disappointed by this restaurant. I go frequently and love the crab cake - the best I have ever had! The servers are attentive and very personable. I always feel like I have had a great meal and a good time at this place. Love it!
Food was delicious. Everyone was so great with my 95 year old grandmother and her walker! Lol...we really enjoyed our first Christmas dinner out. Thanks!
Great server, disappointing food
Food was a big disappointment! Our server was very sweet and attentive, and the restaurant is attractive, but the food is hugely sub-par. I don't recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Very Good Seafood, Too Expensive
We dined here on Christmas Eve, and certainly didn't order expensive dishes. The food was very good, and we did enjoy our meals (my seafood casserole was especially good). However, the bill was a shock, mostly due to the high prices for our wine, and we certainly cannot afford to come back again soon. Too bad....
Better Than Most
We were looking for someplace to eat while Christmas shopping, so we booked a table at Legal Sea Foods in the Garden State Plaza mega mall. Our expectations were not set too high, since we knew it was a chain... And from Boston (Yankee Fan here). However, given our expectations and the price point, Legal's really hit it out of the ballpark. I ordered the Baked Boston Scrod and it was outstanding. My wife had the Rainbow Trout and was very happy. Before dinner we both had a fruity martini, both of which were mixed to perfection. We will definitely return to Legal Sea Foods!

Great Dinner! Only place to go for fresh seafood! Shrimp and Garlic delicious! Service was excellent! Our Server Don exceeded our expectations .
Food is usually so good, not so great this time. The fish in Fish and Chips was not really very good and portion was much smaller than usual. Also, did not care for the big clump of fried onions on top of the fish, it must be something new to make it look like there was more fish. It was a mass of uncooked batter in the center, maybe if onions were fried longer... I was disappointed in the dinner. Oysters were excellent!! Service was good.
Legal Sea Food Great Away from Home
As a New Englander visiting family in NJ, it was great to find a Boston favorite nearby. One of the pluses of this location is that while it is at a huge (and very busy) shopping mall during the Christmas rush, it only has an outside entrance which allows you to exhale and forget about the mall madness on the other of the wall. The valet parking was also a plus. The service was outstanding and the timing and pace of the meal were perfect. We enjoyed having some time between courses, though our server did keep us updated on when things would arrive. We've been to nearly all Legal locations in the Boston area and would say that the Paramus location was every bit as good as any in MA.

Service was excellent. Food was prepared just how I asked. The only drawback is the price. I ordered grilled shrimp and felt that prices at other restaurants are more competitive.
