Left Bank Larkspur Ratings and Reviews
Decent food, but slow service
My recent visit proved to be very slow. I sat for 15 minutes simply waiting to be acknowledged by the waiter. I wasn't even provided with water prior.
lost its mojo
We have been many times, but never again. The food was poor. I had a hamburger--roll was stale, meet salty and overcooked.Fries cold We started with the charcuterie platter--have had many times and was pretty good. The rillettes were awful, but other pates were fine My wife had sardines--tasteless. the price has gone up and the quality down Something is wrong

Disappointed in food. Items were cold. Not very interesting. Rubbery pastrami in a brunch menu. Won't return. I'd been several times before and it was much better.
We were very disappointed in our experience at the Left Bank the other evening. There was a very long wait between our appetizer and main course. No one came to the table to apologize for the delay. When we asked, the waitress said she would check and then told us they had new people in the kitchen. We continued to wait for some time and when we finally received our meal two of the entrees were cold. They did reheat our meals but it made it uncomfortable for the other diner in our party whose meal arrived ready to eat. We felt that they should have been more concerned about the delay and the way the meals arrived. It would have been nice if they had showed more concern.

Petale Sole Poor Recipe
I love Petale Sole. This dish which included a stuffing and message sides was not tasty or worth the price.
The steak tartar was excellent. The place itself was busy and rather loud, esp for a Tuesday evening at 9pm. Would visit again...probably outdoors for lunch.
My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our Eggs Benedict; they do their own "muffin" bottom, have a delicious hollandaise and the potatoes were especially good. She had a crepe which she enjoyed. Side of fruit and dessert were weak points. The passion fruit crème brulee was too tart for us. Good service, but I would have liked them to check more frequently for coffee refills.

Nice ambience, not too noisy as we asked to be seated in back. But waitress very inattentive. So much do we paid our bill at bar because she never came around. Niçoise salad very bland.
We love this place!
We had a wonderful meal and the service was top notch. Lauren did an excellent job!! We are grateful.

French Flair in Larkspur
The ahi nicoise salad was excellent and the french onion soup was magnifique!
Dining at Left Bank
We sat outside, were served by a very nice and attentive female, enjoyed delicious and huge mussels as starters and trout to follow. One major complaint - I arrived slightly earlier than my guest, so waited at the bar, where I was completely ignored by a disinterested bar man. Not a pleasant feeling for a female on her own. Most people who work the bar have great personality. This was a first!
Good, but could stand a little tweaking
Appetizers: seafood sausage and accompaniments very good; kale salad -- death sentence if you don't serve kale in Marin, right? Really, what is there to say? Salmon good; could have been just a little less done for our taste; Provencal beef stew delicious, with fine, silky sauce reduction; beef should have been tenderer. Service was excellent. So was the Santa Ynez Valley gamay. Sound level never got intrusive, unusual and most welcome for a restaurant in the Bay Area. All in all, a satisfying and enjoyable evening.
A local favorite
A great place to grab a bite before a movie at The Lark -- just wish when you order a salad to share that it would be divided in the kitchen rather than asking the customers to do it.
They added a new "tin" ceiling that makes the place a lot noisier than previous. Hard to hear across the table without raising your voice.

Everything ! The service...the quiet table I requested...and the mussels we're incredible! Could not have been better...
Always a great experience at Left Bank
Great place to celebrate...really nice ambience and really good food. It feels special and yet is not stuffy at all. Celebrated my son's high school graduation here and just took my boyfriend here to celebrate his birthday. Steak tartare was perfect, as were the daybook scallops. They have a great standard menu as well as wonderful seasonal specials.
It was a busy night. Service was good, but the food has been better in the past. The special Seabass had no flavor and the sauce failed to compliment the fish. Steak was good as usual.
Not for Valentine's Day
I knew better, but the Left Bank is a romantic favorite for us so when it was time to pick a restaurant for Valentine's Day I forgot my brains and picked this Corte Madera spot. Fun and bustling, good food, the Left Bank can be a great place for dinner; an after-movie spot. But for a special occasion, avoid it on big nights. We were sent back to Siberia -- the cold, silent far back room. It's depressing and they should never use it except perhaps for private events (and even then ...?). The only bright spot: we were not neglected. Our waitress was charming. Good thing. I really don't feel much inclination to go back. It was just such a let-down. Anyway, here's a hint. Be sure and specify that you don't want the far back room. I don't even much like the second room but that's a matter of taste. The first room can be loud and crowded and some people might not like that -- then the second room is a good option.
Unexceptional food, uneven service
We have been to Left Bank many times. I'm sorry to report our most recent visit was a great disappointment--with the exception of the appetizer and one main course, all other dishes were subpar. Service was very, very uneven--by the end of the evening I was not even sure who our waiter was...he was no where to be seen. We'll probably return as we love the steak/frites and escargot but will be careful.

Left Bank has the best steak tartar and the escargot follows a close second. The beet salad was delicious, light and fresh. Their wine list is pleasing. And we were quite impressed with the service. I highly recommend the Left Bank experience. Cheers! ~Natalie Charles
Left Bank is a shining example of how it should be done. Great food and stellar service appropriate to the occasion. I brought my oldest pal here here to celebrate a big birthday. She comes regularly. I'm delighted. The waiter gave us the best service I've ever had on this continent, gracious, attentive, and adept. Thank you!
Our Perinnial Favorite
Whenever we come home from a trip we head to Left Bank. It feels like home. I have the salmon which was fabulous and my husband had the duck. We couldn't decide which was our favorite.
Lunch at my favorite restaurant having the BEST Steak Tartare in the Bay Area.
All that a brasserie should be
All that a brasserie should be: good food, good drink, good service, with crisp white linens, indoor-outdoor dining; the relaxed, pleasant ambiance coupled with a slight buzz and nervosity-- a neighborhood gem. For lunch, the salade nicoise can't be beat!
The cassoulet was tasteless. I understand it was preprepared but whoever reheated it just dumped some water on it and didn't mix it into the beans and vegetables. So it just tasted like water. Salt helped a little bit but I'd never order it again. and this is one of their signature dishes.

Wonderful food, great staff, memorable experiences. I last celebrated my birthday there and the staff made it very special.
Great food. Great service.
The food and service is always outstanding. Best wait staff of any restaurant in Marin.

The pork belly tart was horrible. In fact, it was inedible. Never had such a bad meal there.
