A mismatch for us

Dined on April 21, 2016

I attended dinner with a group of friends this April 2016. Unfortunately we were not told that a "wine tasting" event was scheduled for the same evening. While I am sure coordinating an event at the restaurant is taxing, as a group of 'regular' patrons we found or service very slow, and our entrees took an hour to arrive. The noise level was so high we strained to speak across the table. The food was fairly interesting though not extraordinary. I would recommend approaching this restaurant cautiously, yet I'd be willing to try it one more time under quieter conditions based on the high reviews of other diners.

Amazing food!

Dined on April 10, 2016

The sheer quality of the food is among the very best in the entire Front Range of Colorado; our starters were superb and my crispy duck breast was as good as anything I've had in France. My wife's sweetbreads were very good, though perhaps a bit too creamy. (Don't know if they do brunch or even lunch, so couldn't comment on that. They do have a couple of outdoor tables but I've never sat there so can't rate that either.)

Great for dinner but also very reasonable for lunch and the food is always excellent. I loooove L'atelier. Probably my most favourite restaurant in all of Boulder area.

Felt like a very dated experience

vip
Dined on May 9, 2015

First off - the service was very good. There were two drawbacks that keep me from recommending the place. The menu and food presentation seems very dated. The items were cooked very well - but the whole experience just felt like 1999. Second, we were seated in a booth and to accommodate a large party they extended one of the tables such that one of their guests rear-end essentially had dinner with us at our table. Waiters had to squeeze through - we all had to hold our wine glasses for fear they'd be clipped by someone trying to get by. If you are paying north of 50$ a person, you deserve to not feel like you are grabbing wings in a crowded college bar. They should know better.

Radek the Great

Dined on April 15, 2015

Our lunch was fabulous! Radek, who apprenticed with and recently revisited the phenomenal Paul Bocuse in France, returned with renewed vigor, as evidenced by his latest menu offerings. My chicken dish was so good, I'll return again soon. My wife swooned over her bouillabaisse, big fat mussels swimming in addictive sauce. Our guests were happily surprised too, think I'm a genius at finding wonderful restaurants. Bravo, Radek!!

Spectacular

Dined on April 5, 2015

Stunning, absolutely stunning. With the family dining elsewhere having exchange student obligations, we opted to dine at L'Atelier in Boulder on Easter Sunday, 2015. The owner was on site in his classic PJ looking gab, (what a terrific chef that man is!), and we ordered a couple of excellent Bloody Mary's to start off the brunch. Spicy to the right degree, we selected salads and Lobster Ravioli, (just amazing textures with a light touch to dressings and sauces), and moved into the fresh Salmon Benedict. They were delicious. I have no idea where they get their eggs, but nowhere in Boulder do you find eggs, and specifically, eggs cooked like the eggs we had at that brunch. However, what really impressed us was the service. They do have the best servers in Boulder/Boulder County...bar none. We doubled their tip they were that good and when you find servers, that actually make an effort to have your dining experience "extraordinary", tip them accordingly. Recently, we went around the world by private jet via the Savannas and the Amazon Islands. I thought the service exemplary, but on Easter Sunday, 2015, L'Atelier was its equal. Kudos to you, Chef Radek Cerny...and applause, applause to your marvelous staff.

Everything thing was very well done from the table location, service , food recommendations, quality and wine. We thoroughly enjoyed it and would go back in a heart beat. Only slight concern was the table's proximity to others. Loud talkers nearby were annoying but not so that they ruined the evening.

Retro French but delightfully delicious.

vip
Dined on March 23, 2015

This is a nice break from the consensus trends of small plates and interesting but not always tasty entrees. An interesting mushroom appetizer was sauced perfectly and deliciously although in a somewhat heavy sauce that I have not experienced for a long time. It brought back pleasant memories. The bouillabaisse was superb with a very rich complex broth. The addition of salmon while not traditional complemented the complexity of the soup. White fish and saffron enthusiasts might not be pleased. My partner had a delightful salad but found her butter poached lobster a bit much. I suspect that French traditionalists would find the dish sublime but this is not minimalist cooking. A wonderful red burgundy from Beaune was a bit pricey but worth it. Bananas Foster were not NOLA but were presented dramatically in glass with wood smoke. Overall this was a pleasant and charming evening and a nice culinary trip down memory lane.

Dined on March 22, 2015

We went there for our anniversary and our server did acknowledge our special day but that was it. Based on our experience with other nice restaurants in Boulder when we celebrate an anniversary or birthday we will receive a small glass of champagne at the beginning (Mateo's) or a small dessert at the end of our meal (The Cork, Chop House, Flagstaff House). L'ATELIER's food and the service is outstanding and would recommend going there for lunch or dinner but do not expect them to do something extra for a special occasion.

great food!

Dined on March 16, 2015

The best raw oysters I have ever had! The escargot and lobster ravioli appetizers were different from the usual, lighter but tastier, and presented wonderfully! And the duck was fantastic! The décor was a bit less than what I would have expected for a place with such amazing food, but it made for a more low key, casual atmosphere.

Always Impressed

vip
Dined on March 13, 2015

I love this restaurant! They always have duck on the menu (A+ thank you!) and it is prepared beautifully. My dining companions also enjoyed their Filet and Lamb. We had two bottles of a very nice Pinot which rounded out the meal nicely. The server was very tolerant about our inability to focus on the menu due to our conversations, which we very much appreciated. Sorry for being the last table there, but we were thoroughly enjoying ourselves.

Dined on March 13, 2015

Table was ready. Wait person(s) were great (not too much attention, not too little). Food was exceptional. We particularly appreciate the sauces with the main dishes. We don't eat out a lot, but L'ATELIER has been on our 'we'll come back again' list for years

We love this place. This was our second visit in a month. My wife loves the crab salad with tomatoes. (Used to be called Peeky-toe crab. Same recipe. Different name.) Try the Sipsmith gin in a martini. Excellent. I had the spicy shrimp and mushrooms appetizer. New on the menu. It was unique and very tasty. Rack of lamb was terrific with excellent roasted vegetables. Bread pudding for dessert was the perfect ending.

Food was MAGNIFICENT. Service was mediocre.

Dined on February 15, 2015

Wonderful Valentines dinner. Lobster, Steak, Champagne and Chocolate was superb. The service was a bit unorganized with the number of tables at one time. The hostess seemed stressed when we arrived and we definitely were forgot about a few times at our table. The dinner was unbelievable though. I hope they get the whole act together for future events like this. Special place.

Dined on February 14, 2015

Our meat was a little tough, but it was a set menu as we went on Valentine's day. I would have asked them to remake the main dish on any other day, but that being said I understand quality control is difficult on those busy occasions. That being said, it was all very good! Beautiful restaurant, beautiful food, amazing service.

Valentine Love

Dined on February 14, 2015

We went for the Valentines Day brunch special, billed as "lobster, champagne and chocolate". All 5 courses were fabulous, although I am not a big chocolate fan and the bread pudding was a bit too much chocolate flavor for me (my husband loved it). Every course had a wine pairing. I thought the first course of lobster ravioli was particularly well matched, and we used some of the fabulous bread to sop up the delicious sauce. Too put the experience over the top, the Chef (Radek) gave every woman a beautiful red rose, which I still have in a bud vase 3 days later. I have never been disappointed at L'Atelier, and their special events are excellent values.

Best Birthday Ever!

Dined on February 11, 2015

Dinner with my most handsome husband was at my favorite French restaurant L'ATELIER. We had the private back booth curtained off so I didn't see the beautiful flower arrangement until we were inside. The florist added a touch of earthiness to the bouquet by adding rosemary and evergreen to the roses and other flowers enhancing our evening. We enjoyed champagne (compliments from the Chef) lusciously presented escargot, Caesar salad (white anchovies of course) delicious pork saltimboca for me and succulent scallops for my sweetheart, followed by chocolate chocolate chocolate cake for me and soft lemon cheesecake for my love. A bottle of French Chablis and we were in heaven. The presentation was exquisite on the food, as beautiful as the paintings on the walls and the statues in the lighted recessed boxes.

Pleasurable Experience

Dined on February 8, 2015

We choose L'Atelier to celebrate our son's 21st birthday. The wait staff were very friendly and helped us to navigate the menu and assisted in wine pairings that enhanced our selections. The noise level was quiet and allowed for a reasonable conversation. The food was well prepared, flavorful and offered unique but not exotic taste. The overall experience was satisfying and a return to L'Atelier is in due order.

We love L'Atelier. Great food and wine. I had the pork saltimbocca. Pork tenderloin was perfectly cooked. Dish was perfectly sauced. Mashed potatoes were silky. Apple strudel for desert was the perfect ending. Terrific wine list and helpful waitstaff.

Good food, great service

Dined on February 1, 2015

Food was very good, though quite rich, and service excellent. Our server was especially well informed. Only problem occurred when I asked for a preprandial sherry and was served a very sweet after dinner port instead. Especially enjoyed the parsnip puree to go with my very large, meaty scallops. Bananas Foster for dessert was delicious and an unique experience with the smoke in the bowl. The smokiness added just the right counterbalance to the sweetness. Restaurant is small, so unfortunately, not the best for large groups. But intimate groups and couples will enjoy it immensely.

We really enjoyed L'Atelier! It was a small, but very elegant French restaurant. Food was very tasty and we enjoyed our time reconnecting with friends. White table cloths, excellent food and great service make this an excellent place for special occasions! We closed the place since we hadn't seen our friends in over 5 years and the wait staff was very patient with us and didn't rush us out at all. We would certainly return here on our next visit!

IIts the little things that count

vip
Dined on January 17, 2015

L'Atalier has been our go to place for family celebrations for a few years now. When I made the reservation I mentioned that we were celebrating a birthday and requested a candle for the dessert. I mentioned this again when the reservation was confimered and again at the restaurant. When the dessert arrived without a candle I mentioned it again. Still no candle . It seems like a small thing perhaps but I do think that it is a very big deal considering the caliber of the restaurant and the prices. A request should always be honored. The food was good, not great, and the service was slower than we are used to. I hope that attention is being paid to these lapses, I am not as anxious to return as I have been in the past.
