La Riviera Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Great food way too noisy
The food was fantastic. They have waitress staff that is not very experienced. The noise was crazy such a loud restaurant. Not a place to take a date or someone you love. This was not what I expected. However the food was fantastic so props to the chef!!!!! If you want a fine meal at a good value this is the place. If your looking for somewhere nice this is not the place. Too loud and an un experienced staff.
Ring Day Dinner - Food was very good but services was a bit unorganized. Several occasions waiting for refill on water, 4 minute wait on salt and pepper.
Great Local Find
Our out of town friends recommended La Riviera to us. What a great local find. The service was excellent. There were a variety of menu options and a decent wine selection. The restaurant needs updated, it looks like they are in the process of doing that.
nice, but still in a strip mall
Being in a strip mall does not by itself make this restaurant any worse, but it carries a theme across my experience that I think is notable. I chose this restaurant for a "nice fancy-ish" dinner out with my sister. While it had the initial appearance of being really nice, there were some blatant things that jolted me out of my experience and reminding me that this is really just an above par dinner. Service: their biggest faux pas. From the moment we walked through the door I was confused. There was no host/hostess to greet us, and we waited, no idea where to go. When we got to the table, we waited some more until finally someone came over, wondering why we hadn't been served-- as if we knew! We finally got waited on, and ordered some food. They have some trained wait staff and some very inexperienced staff. One made us feel very comfortable; one made us feel very awkward, rambling on at an uncomfortable length, while making quirky StarWars jokes.. And I love starwars, but this was weird. Then they messed up my order (guess who? Quirky girl) and they were kind about it, bless her heart, but it was drawn out uncomfortably. I would have liked compensation or for them to drop it. Either one. I do have to say the girl that waited on us most of the time was very good. Always there to refil, but went unnoticed. Kind and humorous when appropriate, but knew what her job was still. Food: good in general, but pretty mediocre for fine dining. I tried the pork chop and the duck and they were both overcooked. The glazes and sources may have saved it though. The veggies were kind of thrown on the side- no inspiration in presentation, and almost felt like they came out of a frozen bag. Again a weird mix of fancy and "oh yeah we're in a strip mall". Ambiance: nice. Good lighting, and I liked the decoration, although it may appear tacky to some. Nice wine rack displays, and beautiful live music form the corner of the restaurant. All-in-all: Ok but I probably paid too much.
always a favorite
This is a great place to visit with friends while enjoying excellent, beautifully presented food. It is our Birthday Bunch's "go to" favorite place to meet.

We had the Chef's Tasting Menu. It was a great selection. The food was fantastic. Service was great as well. My husband had a pasta dish and I had the stuffed salmon. Both were great. Desserts were fantastic as always. Thanks for giving us a dinner away from reality.
Food great, service could use some work
My only negative comment is that the service was a little slow. We waited over 10 mins for the waitress to take our drink order! Other than that, service was good, food was great! My very picky boyfriend even enjoyed his meal without complaint.
Took 30min from the time we were seated until a waitress greeted us. Later, was asked if I wanted my ranch dressing on the side of my Caesar salad.... Enough said. For the upscale feel of the resturaunt, the waitress had a poor table side manner. Food was wonderful. But unprofessional service made the experience horrible.
They did a great job on Valentines Day
Overall the meal was very good, and it was nice to bring our own wine (although charged a cork fee of $12 per bottle). The server forgot to bring our coffee, and we waited about 15 minutes then reminded her. However, for a busy Valentine's evening, they did a good job on the service.

Food was excellent. For Valentine's Day, wait staff seemed to be new and not well trained. There was confusion about what could be served from the menu and we didn't know the menu was limited when we booked.
Worst Service in 10 Years
Was hopeful I could treat my daughter and her roommate to a nice Valentines dinner, but experienced the worst service I've had in many years. Clearly poor management, as the waitress was clueless to basic table service techniques. It was 50 minutes after getting seated that we got our salads. Had to get up and ask another waiter to for drink refills. Had to ask the waitress to remove the empty plates so I could sign a check with a mandatory 18% gratuity because we had six disappointed diners. And only four more customers in the restaurant. One and done here. Food was OK. Desserts were the highlight, but the bitter tast of poor service tarnished what should have been a good dining experience.

excellent date night
it was a wonderful night capped off by the awesome food and service
La Riviera continues to be bright spot in the BCS food scene. Latest foray was for Thanksgiving. The buffet was outstanding, full of a variety of tasty dishes. This is a great spot for any occasion.

Not what I was expecting based the reviews posted. The food was prepared well, but lacked any flavor or excitement.
Good 1st experience.
My wife and i had a date night dinner and the food was excellent. Good list of wines. Nice atmosphere and reasonable prices.

Table of 4 with 4 different choices--all well prepared & attractive. Only sorry we couldn't sample the desserts--hopefully next time,
Good food - especially salads
Good meal - if it was on University it would be packed. The salads are always top notch. Fish and beef were good. A/C was not working well, despite only being in the mid 90's. That needs to be fixed in SE Texas.
Made a reservation for my moms birthday. We arrived on time. We were sat in the middle of the restaurant by a person I'm presuming was a waiter. And there we sat for 15 minutes. Waiters and person claiming to be a manager walked past us repeatedly. No stopped to see why we had nothing in front of us, including the waiter that sat us. Did I mention that there were 6 tables in there?!?! So we sat for 15 minutes and were ignored! We got up and was leaving and spoke to the "manager". She offered to wait on us personally, which really meant nothing since she herself had walked past us several times. Bad business! I would never recommend this place to anyone ever. I make it a point to tell people how bad it was!

The food was good at La Riviera. However, our adult daughter has a dairy allergy and the cook was not able to accommodate her. The only item on the menu she could eat was fried calamari. In my opinion a restaurant that's cooking fresh food should be able to leave out the dairy and make adjustments in order to accommodate food allergies. We were literally told by our server that the only food the chef could adjust was the calamari. This is why I gave the restaurant an overall fair rating and a poor service rating. It is a pricey place. We spent well over $200.00. This would not have been bad if all of us could have ordered a nice meal.
The food is good-clearly a great chef, but it is like eating in a lit up strip center. We will eat there again but probably do take out.

We always enjoy eating at La Riviera! The food is delicious and it is not as noisy as many of the other restaurants in town. We can have a quiet discussion and hear ourselves speak, unlike many places in town. The tablecloths and flower on the table give it a "special occasion" feel without making it too formal. And of course, as I said before, the food is always delicious!
Missing Customer Service
First of all the wait staff was great, the night we went they only had two waiters for the entire restaurant and were short staffed in the kitchen. With this limitation they still did a great job. The food was great, everything cooked to perfection. The problem which we were a little miffed about is when an hour after being seated, they finally noticed that our ticket was lost. The owner/manager never came around to explain, apologize or even acknowledge a mistake was made. We weren't expecting to be comp'd or anything, just a basic appearance from the owner/manager explaining the situation would have been nice. When cain restaurants out class you in this matter you might need to take a good look in the mirror....
Perfect for Ladies Lunch
LaRiviera is the perfect restaurant for a 'ladies' lunch!' The menu has a wonderful variety of options which will please every appetite. The spinach and chicken crepes are divine! This is my favorite place to meet girlfriends for lunch!
Respardo de La Riveria
We were looking for a nice location to celebrate our son’s 19 Birthday and his acceptance into Texas A&M. We arrived 15 minutes prior to our reservation—the outward appearance of the restaurant created a little skepticism in contrast with what we had mentally envisioned. Once we entered our apprehensions were alleviated as the interior is decorated with a perfect blend of a high end steak house without being overly imposing. Our waiter, Austin, quickly sat us in spite of our premature arrival. We mentioned that we were celebrating a birthday and college acceptance. He offered a sincere congratulations and stated that he would do all he could to assist us in a fine dining experience. Austin recommended crab cakes as an appetizer while he served hot freshly baked breads. The appetizer was sensational and perfectly complimented with the house wine. We ordered four entrees, The Lonestar Steak (Ribeye), Spinach & Smoked Chicken Crepes, Beef Tenderloin Medallions, and Seafood Stuffed Salmon. Each entrée was cooked exactly as specified and the seasonings were nothing short of sensational. We selected such a wide variety of entrees that we felt compelled to share with each other as we each felt as though our entrée was the best. I would like to offer a recommendation as to which one to order and I will simply have to say yes, as in order any of it and you can’t go wrong. The dessert tray affords a plethora of options and we selected crème brulee and Snicker cheesecake. Austin delivered the crème brulee with an inscription written in chocolate “Happy Birthday & Gig’Em” a very nice touch to make the experience that much more special and personalized. The crème brulee was exceptional although I am partial to the richness of the Snicker cheesecake. I highly encourage you to dine at La Riveria if you have not already, if you are interested in dining on what feels like a high end steak house without the accompaniment of the high end steak prices, this is the place for you.
We made reservations for 12 at the restaurant via Open Table back on March 30 for our June 5 graduation luncheon, hoping it would be a special occasion for my son and the family who was traveling in to see him. We were very surprised to find the restaurant had no reservation for us, even though I have the e-mail record from Open Table. So either the restaurant is no longer using Open Table to accept reservations and Open Table hasn't updated its website, or the restaurant management isn't checking with Open Table for reservations. So while they were able to seat us, they certainly weren't expecting such a large group and weren't prepared for our celebration. The food was delicious, which I was happy for.
The food was great! I felt a little rushed by the server to finish my meal quickly. The ambiance of the resturaunt could have been a bit dimmer to feel a little more cozy. Overall, I would go back for a work lunch, but not for a special occasion.
Excellent chef owned
We have known of this place for some time and never fail to enjoy it. Wonderful food and nice enough for special occasions, but reasonably enough priced that you can go for lunch occasionally. The lunch menu is not huge but big enough, quite varied, and the service is prompt. The waitstaff is well trained, courteous but personable, and attentive but not intrusive. Reservations may not always be necessary, but they are easy to make online. We did that for five of us about 40 minutes before we arrived. The appearance is nice but not stuffy, quiet enough to easily carry on a conversation at a large table, and the entire feel is unhurried. Parking is always easy in the large lot off Texas Avenue.
La Riviera has is a hidden gem
La Riviera has become my favorite place to eat in the BCS area. I recently moved to the area from Houston which is known for it " s fine dining. I would rank La Riviera up there with any of the finest restaurants in Houston. The food is incredible and service and ambiance are wonderful. You will not be dissapointed. Desserts are awesome as well.
Food is good, but our waitress was on Mars
My family and I dined at LaRiviera recently and it was not our first time there. Our experiences had been positive in the past. This time, however, our waitress was missing in action for most of the time. We waited over 1 hour to get just entrees. We didn't order any appetizers or anything from the bar (maybe this was the problem?). In fact, we ordered our meals the moment she came to take our drink order (we have small children). The food was good, as it usually is, once it came; it just took way too long. Overall, our experience lasted an 1.5 hours and all we ordered were entrees. We had wanted to get dessert, but had to forgo it because of the slow service. It's unfortunate, but it will be a while before we return.

Food, drink service and atmosphere are wonderful; however the restaurant mixed up the reservation time and kept moving us as they had the seating disorganized.
Disappointment for a High Price
Very little food available - never saw salmon. Pork chop very dry. Tenderloin was extremely raw. 18% required gratuity for being served tea that we had to pay for.
We took our family to LaRivera for their EASTER Buffet because we just didn't feel up to preparing the normal yearly feast at home. The selections were attractively displayed with a nice variety of choices, and the food was good. As with any buffet, not everything was as hot as if it was ordered off the menu, but we expected that. The wait staff was attentive to our table and the kitchen staff kept the buffet table well stocked. All in all it was a pleasant experience. We have lunch there from time to time and that is always perfectly prepared and delicious.
One of best places in the Area.
If you are in the Bryan College Station area, put La Riveria on your list as one of the best restaurants you can find. La Riveria has become one of our first choices for nice dining. A good selection of wines, reasonably priced, and a good menu. Also known for imaginative desserts.
Great place for fine quality, easy-going dining.
I have without except always had a fine experience dining at La Riviera. This restaurant offers excellent quality food at a very modest price. The service is prompt, attentive, and unpretentious, and the noise level usually low. All around, La Riviera is a great place to enjoy a very savory, relaxing meal.
Great food, good price, but the service is poor.
Took forever to get anything, they ran out of bread, served water in a glass with lipstick on the rim, and 3 of us finished eating before the 4th person got her meal (and it was only a salad). They appear to be horribly understafffed or very disorganized. We're going to try it one more time to see if it was a fluke. The food was that good.
Took a group of 15 to La Riviera for graduation dinner. It appeared that they didn't have our reservation when we got there...they thought another group was us. Waited about 15 minutes to be seated. When we were seated, the waitress had way too many tables - she was working our table and then had two other groups that totaled another 10+ people. She completely forgot our wine order and we had to ask for it twice. Once the food was served, most plates were delicious - steak cooked perfectly and fish dishes weren't overly cooked. However, we did have to send two plates back because the pork was dry and over cooked. All in all, we had a great time. The appetizers were great, I enjoyed by steak and shrimp and the desserts were enjoyed by all. I think with a few more waiters, and a bit more attention in the kitchen, I would rate it 5-stars. Oh, and by the way, the prices are extremely reasonable for the internal atmosphere and food served.
