The wine selection was good. It had wines ranging from good and affordable to fabulous and expensive. The food was great. The lamb shank was terrific. Our server was knowledgeable. I would recommend this restaurant.
good quality italian food in SOMA
we enjoy dining at La Briciola since its near our apartment: the food is always fresh, well prepared, innovative and delicious. We strongly recommend La Briciola to those looking for authentic Italian cuisine.
It was extremely average
Everything about this restaurant was dated and long past its prime. The dishes, menus, flatware were all past their prime. Food at best was mediocre. There are better places to go.
Good food, ok service
I'd recommend for good Italian food. Our server was very nice, just very slow. There looked like there was only one server and one bus boy.
Pleasant dinner with friends
Very friendly staff and delicous food! Highly recommend the burrata and cheese plate for starters and the lasagna and mushroom tagliatelle for mains. The bottle of nebiollo paired well with the dishes. Keep up the great work!
good for foodies
This was the second time to La Briciola, not disappointed, the food was as food as the first time. Hope the quality will remain.
The wine was expensive by the glass. The food was just o.k. The octopus salad was the tastiest item I had. My friend had chicken Sauté of some kind but the chicken was overcooked and unexciting. The price was not what I expected.
The food here was amazing as always. The steak con fonduta was cooked exactly as I asked and my husband adored the lamb shanks. That's why we keep coming back every month!
neither here nor there
There was nothing I didn't like about this place. I just didn't find it notable in any way. The prices were reasonable but I felt like I overpaid for presentation and food that I rate as "OK."
Our favorite Italian restaurant
Consistently good food and wonderful service at moderate prices. We have never been disappointed in any of our many visits here.

Great but little known with the freshest Italian food, very close to Moscone center for business meetings
Nice local restaurant
Nice local restaurant, sweet decor and good service. The lasagna was amazing!
La Briciola is our neighborhood go-to trattoria.
Authentic food, impeccable service--attentive, good-natured and cordial without being hovering or overly familiar, as it seems only Italians know how to do. It is always quiet enough to chat. Highest recommendation.
Slow Service and Mediocre Food
Came here for my boss' birthday lunch, made a reservation for party of 5 at 11:30am on a Wednesday. We were the first guests to arrive, so I figured great we'll be in and out of the restaurant in roughly an hour or so, with time to share a dessert. This was not the case. The waiter's demeanor was a bit sour and though he wasn't rude, he also wasn't friendly. It took about 15 minutes for the waiter to take our order, when there was no one else in the restaurant. The bus boy did bring us fresh hot bread with oil and kalmata olives in the meantime, which helped with the waiting. The food came quickly once we ordered but it wasn't worth the prices. I'm glad we stuck with the Lunch Menu instead of the higher priced Main Menu. The Bruschette Assortite Zucchini and the bread were the highlights of the meal. I ordered the Scaloppina Di Limone, the veal was over cooked but the lemon caper sauce was tasty. The veggies, broccoli & spinach were overly steamed and bland. The bus boy and another gentleman served us our food and the waiter never came to check on us until after we finished eating, about 15 minutes after we were done. He never asked us if we wanted to see the dessert menu but simply brought us the check. I didn't make a fuss since we had to get back to the office and we passed up the hour mark from when we sat down in the restaurant. The slow un-attentive service really brought this place down for me. When we left there were only 2 other small tables in the restaurant.
I had been meaning to try out La Briciola and finally made reservations. It was worth it. My friend and I had great dishes , cooked well and full of flavor. The staff was attentive and helpful. I will be back!
Very good pasta
We enjoyed a nice dinner on Valentine's Day with the regular menu instead of a special Valentine's Day menu with fewer choices and higher prices as many other restaurants tend to do. There were, of course, daily specials. My husband enjoyed his black squid ink spaghetti with seafood and I thoroughly enjoyed my perfectly cooked tagliatelle with porcini mushrooms and truffle oil. Bread was crusty, fresh and warm. Dessert was very good and my salad was also a hit. Although tables are spaced close together, we were able to carry on a conversation without any problem. I would return to this unpretentious but very good Italian restaurant.
A Touch of Italy in SOMA
we typically dine at La Briciola weekly and have taken family members here for special occasions. we've never been disappointed: the fish dishes, meat and pastas are truly fantastic; service is personalized, the atmosphere resembling a trattoria in Italy.
Super Bowl Weekend
We had a group of 10 for dinner. While they were late in getting us seated, the table was able to comfortably accommodate our group. Most people liked their food, though one dish came out piping hot and wasn't able to be enjoyed. The wine selection was good. I'd suggest trying again when it's not such a busy weekend downtown.

We had a very uneven experience. The chick pea soup and the grilled octopus appetizer were great. I loved the black ink seafood spaghetti special. My companions both had pasta dishes off the menu and were disappointed. Neither could eat more than a few bites.
Although the service was okay, my partner almost got the wrong food. I had to keep asking for butter, and my pasta was so ardent I could barely eat it. The calamari was greasy so we didn't finish it, but the desert was good, and it only ran over $100. Obviously, we won't be going back their again. It is a neighborhood nightmare!
Third time is stall a charm
This is our 3rd time visiting La Bricola and we had a wonderful time. Brought several old country Italians and they LOVED the food! From the moment we sat down until the end of the meal, the wait staff, front of the house manager and our waiter could not have been more attentive or helpful....they made the night memorable. The food was outstanding once again, from the carpaccio, burrata, crostini & calamari appetizers to the rabbit (awesome), the risotto (to die for) or the gnocchi, there was not a miss to be had. We WILL be back!
Treated like family!
We love this gem of a restaurant. It always feels like visiting family when we come. They remember us and make us feel welcome. The food is not your American red sauce and spaghetti type menu. It's authentic and sophisticated Northern Italian. On our latest visit, we had someone with us who is lactose intolerant. They handled his special food needs perfectly and made him feel like he was pampered. Have the profiteroles for dessert. They are the best! The only issue this time was it was a hopping Friday night and we seemed to have been forgotten at the end of our meal. We had to ask for the check and then ask again for them to take our money! That certainly won't stop us from coming back again and again.
One of the great San Francisco secrets
This unassuming place South of Market is one of the best Italian restaurants in the city. With a great variety of dishes and spectacular service, it ranks right up there with the more famous competitors. The seafood was done beautifully and the salads were excellent. Service was attentive and friendly and feel of the place is warm without being inauthentic. Gnocchi was great too. I recommend very highly.
Best Dining Experience. Better Than Italy!
One of the best dining experiences I've had. The food was amazing! Great flavour and the portions were generous. I tried the ink squid spaghetti and the braised lamb special. The servers were attentive. Definitely a cosy, nice and romantic restaurant.
Our kind of italian dinner
The crowd was as light as we have ever seen it here, but the food, wine and service eere as great as always, and we enjoyed the Viello Valdestano as much as always. Great value and highly enjoyable1
Classic Italian Bistro
If you're looking for the classic San Francisco bistro that the tourists have yet to discover, this is the place. Small, quiet, great food (the seafood lasagna, though a pairing I had never had before, was outstanding), attentive service. Conveniently located, a 20-minute walk along 3rd Street from either the Montgomery Street BART station or from AT&T Park. This was my wife's and my first visit, but we'll be back. Reservations recommended.
La Briciola is a bit of Italy in SF.
We always enjoy eating at La Briciola and make an effort to have at least one meal there when we are in town. It reminds us of some of the great neighborhood restaurants in Rome.
Another good lunch at Briciola
We've been coming to Briciola for years now for our company holiday lunch, once again they did not disappoint!
Authentic Italian Cuisine
We dined here for the second time after three years, and La Briciola confirms to be an authentic Italian restaurant, among many that pretend to be like that. As an Italian born and raised, I can tell that the dishes were prepared according to the tradition and with very good quality ingredients. The lasagna was outstanding, exactly the same that I could expect in a traditional Italian home (and that takes a lot of time to be properly prepared). Interesting wine list, with some "excellent" bottles (although, expect to pay a good amount of money if you want one of them). I would definitely recommend La Briciola

Pasta was awesome, but the t-bone stark was horrible and burnt, The steak was suppose to be cooked medium. They never brought another steak out so my husband left hungry. Very sad about that T-bone steak being black and hard! Don't order steak at a Italian Resturant
Great Northern Italian food
We needed a nice place close by to celebrate a birthday, so we chose La Braciola. All our diners were very pleased with their food. AND, My lasagna was simply the best I've ever had in a restaurant. Service was great, attentive but not cloying. And the Italian Barbera wine was as delicious as any I remember having in Italy.
My husband and I arrived to our reservation about 30 minutes early. The host seating us put us all the way in the back. I'm not sure if it's because we were in jeans and hoodies (trendy, but still casual) so he wanted to hide us or if it was because he wanted us to have the most romantic seat in the house. Unfortunately, I think it may be the former but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and go with the latter. Once sat, we were greeted and taken care of by the kindest server. He seemed genuinely interested in making sure our dinner was wonderful. We asked for recommendations from him and he steered us well! My husband had the lamb ragout and I had the ravioli with lobster sauce. Both were delicious. I think our favorite thing was the panna cotta with cherry coulis. Whatever you do, get this. Paired with a cup of coffee (comes with biscotti), it makes a perfect ending to a wonderful dinner.

While LA Bricola is listed as a $$ restaurant, the prices were a little on the high end of $$, low end of $$$. We had a good experience there though.
Gracious service. Delicious food. Classics w a twist done well

Nice little place in the City. There were several more than 4 people table but the noisy level didn't go up high so we could carry on a quite conversation. Ordered Della Casa salad which was tasty and portion was huge! We could have done with the salad. Ordered Filetto Con Fonduta AL Tartufo, a filet mignon, fontana cheese and black truffle. Cooked perfect medium and just enough truffle not to overwhelm the steak itself. Hubby ordered Vitello Alla Valdostana, rolled veal, spek, fontina cheese, white wine, but it was a bit tough and salty. Maybe used salt cured prosciutto since I don't know what spek is? Overall good evening with good service and decent food and Great Price!
