I loved the design of the space and the ambiance. The service was fantastic, as well as the food.
Lived up to my expectations
We took some friends from out of town to this restaurant. They wanted somewhere different to meet up . The lady is a gourmet cook herself and we knew she would enjoy both tasting the food and discussing it with the knowledgeable and helpful staff. The waitress was happy to discuss and assist with wine selections and helped us make a couple of great choices. It's always a relief when a recommendation works out even better than you hoped and I think this is one place you can feel confident of that happening.
Table of two
Great spot for an intimate dinner for two. Tristan our waiter, was excellent and more than willing to answer any and all questions.
Went to dinner here with a friend and it was unbelievable! Our server Amanda was fantistic! The food was sublime! Highly recommend trying Kris Bistro out!!
Business lunch - an gamble that paid off
We were meeting with a potential resource company CEO. We wanted to dine at a restaurant that was equidistant between our two office locations. Kris Bistro was found on Google Earth and the website was reviewed. The website had a great first impression. It was easy to make reservations. The menu was impressive and relatively competitive. One comment: provide the wine list without the patron having to request it. Make it just as available as a menu. The practice of exhibiting a wine bottle without the patron having an opportunity to discreetly review pricing. The entrée was cooked to perfection: grilled sea bass. Beggar's purse appetizers were delicious and the tiramisu dessert was very tasty. The wait staff were attentive and courteous; however, one of the staff made small talk and mentioned her husband had gotten laid off and is unemployed - I believe this was mentioned because she overheard some of our conversation. Wait staff need to remember their job is to enhance the patron's dining experience, not to become part of it. The meeting went well; the food came out hot, professionally plated and in a reasonable amount of time. Lastly, because the wine turned out to be $49.00, our companies split the bill; we agreed to pay for the food, the other company stated they would take care of the wine bill. We both provided our credit cards and explained who would pay for what but, when we got the bills back, I was charged for the wine and the other company was charged the food! Not sure what happened there. I really like concept that we were providing culinary students an opportunity to hone their skills. Kris Bistro would benefit from additional marketing to get the word out. Disadvantages: Tiny Kris Bistro sign, restaurant is effectively hidden in the Culinary institute. Terrible entrance into the restaurant; you feel like you are walking through someone's office to get to the restaurant - because you are! Maybe a side entrance that opens directly into Bistro?
Kris Bistro offers a Unique Experience
Kris Bistro offers a one of a kind experience. It is a little out of the way in a non traditional location but it is well worth the visit. Its like a hidden gem. The food is always excellent. The restaurant is quiet and romantic and almost always available. We eat dinner there 4-6 times a years. I especially enjoyed the Valentines Day event where five separate chef stations each prepared a serious of dishes and we could choose one or all of them.
Another great meal
We had a wonderful Valentine's Day buffet but noticed that a bit too much salt was being used in the string beans! We hope this is not an omen of change but rather a minor slip in an otherwise flawless meal.
Our Valentine's Day brunch was superb. With the 5 stations, there was something for everyone and enough to satisfy even the largest of hungers! Excellent quality, friendly chefs, a real dining pleasure!
Excellent food and service was efficient, friendly staff. Our server Norma was very good. The entire staff were friendly including the Manager John
A HIDDEN JEWEL!
This is one of Houston's hidden jewels. Everyone in the kitchen is expertly trained, and the Chefs who lead it all are instructors at the Culinary Institute LeNotre (a famous French Family, with a Culinary Institute here in Houston). You'd be hard pressed to find finer food anywhere in our area. FANTASTIC!!!

We are out of towers and were there at a Mardi Gras night we didn't know about. Service poor, too loud, but very good food. Will try again during regular day.

Meal started out great with starters then the soup was next, very good. Meals were ok. Seafood meal was cool, not hot. Gumbo was ok again not hot but cool. Service was average by server. Not very attentive and food took entrees took sometome to get out. I think he avoided us knowing that food was taking so long.
The food and service were great. The staff really try hard to please you and all the food came presented in a very nice presentation. It was delicious, I would go back.
Excellent dining experiences, we all enjoyed from the appetizers to main dish. We were pleasantly surprised, fantastic dishes. Mark our server was knowledgeable, friendly and efficient. Please send him our appreciation. We will definitely be back to try different dishes.

Great restaurant for authentic French cuisine, extensive wine list, with a very helpful waiter (Mark) to explain everything in very friendly, non-condescending manner. Since this restaurant is part of the "lab" for the students, the learning environment extends to the restaurant, where the staff is happy to explain everything on the menu, while you watch the students prepare delicious meals.

Amazing wine and excellent food at very reasonable prices. Ambiance is fair but fun if you enjoy looking at the kitchen
This is a culinary school with a dining room. The food is good. I asked for the music to be generationally fit. Everyone eating was above 35 years of age. They accomodated using Pandora.
Best kept secret
Food is always expertly prepared. Service is reliable, professional, knowledgeable. I love that our waiter never interrupted our conversation so he can complete his agenda, rather he stopped by every so often, lingered a few moments and let us decide to pause ourselves to ask him for service. Rare to find that level of restraint in even the highest end eateries in Houston. Standouts were the Beef Carpaccio, Moules fritte (delicious sauce so ask for extra bread for dunking), octopus & Scallop salad, and grilled sea bass. Ambiance is cozy and romantic if you chose table near the bar or can be entertaining if you choose table with window facing the kitchen. The staff are mostly students of the LeNotre Culinary Institute, making the experience so fulfilling. I can always count on Kris Bistro to give us a great evening. Keep up the good work!! A+++
Must try this place. The foie Gras is some the best in houston. Each dish was spectacular.

French onion soup: onion sliced too thick, not enough cooking, difficult to chew. Too much onion, not enough soup. French Fries: I always think Kris Bistro has the best French fries in town . But I was a bit disappointed this time . it was not crispy enough, some fries only less than one inch long. WILD MUSHROOM AGNOLOTTI : too salty Dessert: very good but pricey
Impressed by Every Dish
We ate six different dishes and they ranged from very good to excellent. Blown away by the appearance of the dishes and the fact that there was uniqueness to each dish. Service was great. The price we paid was great for the value that we received. The wine that we bought was the most reasonable wine for the quality that I have purchased in years at a restaurant.
Don't let the location and building mislead you. The food is outstanding and the service is very attentive. We had a 3-course meal and everything is delicious. First time I try duck confit in a stew / pot pie - very creative! Dessert is heavenly. This restaurant is definitely a keeper.
Rusia place is always great we love it. Food is always spectacular. You get to watch the students while they cook. The bread and butter are amazing. The oysters and beef are yummy. Cheese plate is great.
Amazing food, great ambiance, fantastic wine
Such an amazing meal, all of the food is delicious and the wine pairings were spot on. Great place to spend a Saturday night. Definitely save room for dessert!
Fun and unique!
There's always something new and innovative on the menu to try. Everyone in our party ordered something different and had a great time sampling one another's food. I had a foie gras creme brulee served with homemade ginger snaps that was WONDERFUL! That's just a sample of the sort of thoughtful and tasty selections you'll get to play with. It wasn't our first time here, and it won't be our last.
Hidden Gem in Houston
Kris Bistro is fantastic. I saved the newspaper article from 2012 announcing their opening and could not get anyone to join me there until last week. Unknown entity, unknown part of town. my friend and I were thrilled with the whole experience, including seeing the students working away in the classroom kitchens and entering the restaurant space after walking down the school halls very special most excellent meal cannot wait to return
Fine culinary school bistro
Kris Bistro is one of our favorite restaurants. While it is in a somewhat awkward area to visit from where we live, the parking area always feels secure and the drive is not bad. We always feel welcome and the staff is friendly and efficient. The cuisine is deliciously imaginative and inspired. And it is beautifully presented. There is a nice wine list, very fairly priced. And one can bring ones own wine for an extremely reasonable $10 corkage fee. Kris Bistro is well worth a visit for a delicious, relaxed and quiet meal. And I seriously doubt if it will be your last time there!
Everything here is amazing, especially for the money. It has gone up a little since we were here last, but definitely worth every penny. Loved the duck confit gumbo and the curry ketchup that came with the fries was spectacular.
Our 25th Anniversary was Memorable!
My wife and I started our evening out with an elegant dinner at Kris Bistro & Wine Lounge. The food was magnificent and the proportions were perfect. The staff is the most attentive I have ever experienced in a 5 star restaurant.
I took my fiancée here for her birthday. The food was really good, service was great and watching the students in class was good theater for our meal. Wine list was a good size and spanned many regions and price points. Overall, we had a great time. The location, as others note, is unusual in that it is part of the Culinary school. However, it is a romantic full service restaurant that lets you watch the students learn and make dishes. Final note, the Level 3 (near graduation) students are the only ones cooking for you under executive chef supervision. It was real fun and I look forward to bringing friends here.
Definitely a great find
There were eight of us in our party, we were made to feel welcome and had a great evening. The food was superb, the service excellent and the cost very reasonable. The staff were knowledgeable and more than willing to discuss our menu selections with us describing each dish in detail. The wine selection was great. We had a wonderful evening and all would be happy to visit again. This is a restaurant you can recommend with no fear of a bad experience.
Interesting if you go when students in class to see cooking school activity thru window. Menu great, also served complimentary chocolates.
Devine food! Great wine!
The salmon was perfectly prepared. The accompaniments were perfect. Great service. Excellent attention to detail, and quality of ingredients. I will definitely be back.
Great Food, great Service
Loved the food, very inventive, not extreme, service was attentive. The wine selection was good and inexpensive. There were 3 of us, appetizers, main course and desert, we chose different items on each course. There were good choices and excellent choices. The excellent choices caused what would have been an excellent choice elsewhere to be down graded to good here. Glad they are part of Restaurant Week, glad to have Discovered them.
We went at dinner during the Houston Restaurant Week for my wife's birthday. We had an excellent experience. The food was superb and the service was exceptional. We had lots of smiles and happy faces. We have traveled and vacationed a few times in France, and this meal was superior to most of what I ever had on the French soil. Well done, Kris Bistro, really well done. We will be back again. You are a Houston gem. Cheers,
This was a repeat visit to this restaurant. Our first time here was a true delight. The food was excellent, and every course had some surprises in it. We also had an excellent server who apparently took a real interest in the food, where it came from and what had been done to it in the kitchen. This last visit was ok. The food was good, and was delivered to the table in a timely manner. It was very busy, so I guess there was no time to waste - efficient. If anybody from Kris reads this, try moving those little side tables out of the dining room. Patrons and servers run into them all the time, they remind me of hospital food trays, and really serve no function.

Kris Bistro definitely exceeded our expectations from the wine to the desert.

We had the restaurant week dinner menu. All are excellent! Service is great! If only all the restaurants in Houston have this kinda attentiveness & politeness, it will be an awesome dining city!
Great food and outstanding staff!
The food was incredible!! There were so many options on the HRW menu that anyone could find something they like. The waitstaff and restaurant staff were so helpful when it came to food and drink recommendations - we learned about some of the beers they offered that we'd never heard of. It was a really enjoyable experience and I have been telling anyone who will listen!!
FABULOUS RESTAURANT CONNECTED TO ONE OF THO BEST COOKING SCHOOLS IN THE COOUNTRY
