About Knickerbocker Bar and Grill
"The place where New Yorkers eat"
Knickerbocker is known for its great Jazz and its 28 oz. T- Bone Steaks and is a favorite among many celebrities including F. Murray Abraham, Chris Noth and Alec Baldwin. Racheal Ray listed us in her "NYC Favorites" and has praised our Shrimp Cocktail, Creamed Spinach, and of course our T- Bone Steaks.
The word "Knickerbocker" itself, says "New York". Upon entering, you’ll know you're in the Village. Its wood paneled walls sport rare turn of the century posters and original caricatures by Al Hirschfield. Large leather booths line the walls and brass rails accent the 100 year old marble bar, where Charles Lindbergh signed his Trans Atlantic contract.
We have survived the times by using the freshest ingredients from local markets, and offering good solid value and quality. We serve until late (weekends 1:00 AM) and offer a Bistro Menu with lighter fare.

We have live jazz on Friday & Saturday nights, starting at 9:45pm till 2:00am. There is a small $3.50 cover charge at the tables after 10:15 pm, or just stop in at the bar for a drink, with no cover.

Great music and food. Wonderful experience.
This is a classic old place. A lot of the clientele seems like they've been coming there for decades. The food is pretty good. A bit too expensive for what it is but it's good. My wife and I and our two kids have been here a lot, we got into the habit of coming here on birthdays when they were little and we still do. It's a block from where we live. But we always leave there wanting it to be better. The longer you sit there (waiting half an hour for your food), the charm of the old-fashioned interior, the stadium-level wattage of the lighting, and the gruff manner of the pot-bellied host wears thin.

Always a nice place to visit whenever I am in the neighborhood. Lovely decor and cozy atmosphere. More energized towards the end of the work week. The free chocolate soufflé was hard to pass up during our visit.
Great local restaurant
I've been meeting friends at this restaurant for years and it holds many good memories. Centrally located for friends coming from anywhere. Had the ribs ... Delicious. Service was attentive. Will keep returning.
Having visited many steak restaurants, this pretends to be one. From a non sizzling double cut T-Bone served improperly (basting it and spilling congealed fat on the table) to clearing the table and spilling crumbs everywhere, the experience was subpar.
My wife and I visited NYC from the UK and chose Knickerbocker after reading an article by the author Alafair Burke saying it was one of her favourite dining spots. We felt the restaurant gave us a taste of New York in more ways than one. Food and service were excellent and I would recommend a visit.
Great well established neighborhood place
My experience at Knickerbocker Bar & Grill was exceptional. From the waiter's very personable and professional demeanor to the excellent T-bone steak, the entire meal was memorable. I will certainly return.
Reminds me of the last days of Tavern on the Green -- a neighborhood gem that is perhaps relying too much on its once-deserved reputation. The place is unchanged and the staff is excellent but the food (brunch) was mediocre.
LOVE THIS PLACE
Always reliable!! Neighborhood favorite!! Its a fun lively village spot with delicious food- Espcially the Steak & the chocolate souffle!

Wonderful atmosphere and Delicious food. Definitely a must visit while in the city!
Great food, good service
We happened to be in this neighborhood so decided to try. It was much nicer than anticipated. I was expecting a sports bar but it was nice. Quiet with good service.
A little jazz gem
Amazing food, chilled out ambience, attentive waitressing . Our most expensive meal of the trip, but we'll worth the money. You get what you pay for! Would definitely come again should we return to NYC.
Go for sure...maybe just not on a holiday!
I have been going to Knickerbocker’s for years, numerous times without a complaint and will go back. But this was Easter Sunday. I probably won’t go back on a holiday ever again. The waitress said she started work at 10am, we sat down at 6:30 and they close at 10:00pm. She said she was exhausted but that should not be a reason to be rude. Everything was an annoyance from a glass of ice to a takeout container. The manager did give us a discount so at least that was fair. If you are in the village looking for a good steak dinner, it’s worth going. It’s not cheap but the value is good. Go with friends and share a T-Bone. The sautéed mushrooms are delish. If you are a slow eater DON’T order the Chocolate Soufflé or tell your server ahead of time to keep an eye on your progress so it doesn’t fall. We didn’t and ended up with just a dish of chocolate. The Banana Bread Pudding is amazing…make sure it’s served hot. So go! Enjoy! The food is really good and if your server is not overworked and exhausted everything will be great!
great neighborhood gem
The food was delish, as usual. The service was great, too. The place is always accommodating and that is very much appreciated.
great steak, ok fish
this is my second time here. first time was at night during winter - the place was buzzing and cozy. food was great and wines are reasonable. this time the steaks were just as great but the fish was so so. Servers are always entertaining. would recommend for groups who like steak

My husband and I always love the Knickerbocker Bar and Grill. Service and food are always great and the ambience is comfortable and warm. Charlie the manager is always terrific. Try the fresh baked chocolate chip cookie for dessert! Wonderful! And for a special treat, go in the weekend and listen to the Jazz!
Great Neighborhood find
..always consistently terrific….had a wonderful tuna tartare, roasted chicken, and all 5 friends had various dinners, all very pleased. I'll try the sausage bolenese next…looked great
go for the music
the food is over priced. 1 out of our 3 dishes was good. shrimp was over cooked and the steak (although their specialty) was disappointing. the waiter forgot our dessert order so we waited for it for 30 mins after our meal. the music was great! the atmosphere was nice. over all, it isn't worth the cost.
Great food, so so service
The last two times we visited Knickerbockers, the food was great but the service was lacking. The wait for our dinner was much longer than it should have been. We will probably lay off for a bit and visit other steak houses around town.

Terrible service, not unfriendly, just poorly managed and unprofessional. Was 30 minutes waiting to get served. Food was not great. Will not eat there again. Would not recommend.
've been coming to Knickerbocker for at least 20 years and it's always been excellent. Best steak house in New York, in my opinion.
Excellent pork chop special. Moist

Knickerbocker's Bar & Grille
Good food cooked to perfection and nice serving sizes, Server was very professional and knowledgeable but too serious (kind of deadpan). Never cracked a smile. At least he wasn't rude.
Great steaks at a reasonable price for an NYC steakhouse. My daughter had to leave early to attend an event and the waitress was very attentive to that. Great cookie to end the meal too!
Their 28 oz T-bone steak is the best. Comes with creamed spinach and choice of potato. Big enough for 2 to share. Menu skews toward meat, but is varied enough for those who don't indulge. Live jazz starts at 9pm on Fri and Sat. There are 2 sets a night. No cover for 1st set. Minimal cover for 2nd. Music loud enough to hear, but low enough so that your dinner conversation can be continued at a normal volume. Atmosphere and service give you a feel for old New York. I've gone there with guests old and young, with locals and visitors, and all have enjoyed it enough to want to return.
Gets better all the time
Have been coming here for years and this last meal was really delicious..as good as any restaurant with real American food..Artwork, and energy.
High quality food with an unfussy vibe
We always enjoy a meal, whether brunch or dinner or just drinks at the bar, at Knickerbocker. The food is interesting and well prepared and the service friendly and competent. There is no rushing, but service is prompt.
A great meal
We always enjoy eating at the Knickerbocker. It is a real neighborhood gem. You can have a burger, pasta or a great steak. The service is great and if you are there at the right time the music is great too. We had a wait a few minutes on a busy night even though we had a reservation. The whole thing was handled professionally and we were soon seated and enjoying the wonderful food and service.
lovely and local
we love the knickerbocker, old school vibe, very cozy. love love love. great live jazz piano bar. warm atmosphere. great oysters and steaks!
The service is top notch and the food is perfect.
It's one of my husband's favorite steak houses with old time ambiance. It's been in the neighborhood for ages. They still have a jazz night. The service is impeccable. The steaks aged and are cooked to perfection. Extensive wine list.
We had a nice time at the restaurant as the waiter was a pleasure. The food is "almost good" however. I still don't understand why NY restaurants continue to service fish they don't know how to prepare. This is a meat and potatoes restaurant so stick with what you know. Drop the fish as this is the second time I've had fish and the experience was forgettable. You know somethings up when you smell your fish being brought to the table. I was raised on the water and it's not necessary to have a strong fish odor when served. Also, change your wine glasses. You use thick, libby-type dorm room wine glasses. They do nothing for the bouquet or taste as they are small. They are something you'd take on a picnic. What happened to a nice size wine glass that enhances the experience. The wine glass experience is really bush league especially when your paying top dollar for wine. Overall though I had fun at the restaurant.

T Bone was T all Fatty. Got Luke warm martinis Shrimp scampi taste like paper the pasta was a salt lick They made you feel you were lucky to eat there. Tables are on top of each other so they bump into you all night without An apology. The waiter was way over whelmed Never going to eat here again . A miserable experience. I never write reviews but this experience drove me to it
Great food, service lacked just a bit
As always, the food was wonderful. Our waiter seemed a little distracted and we did not get the service we usually do. We had to find him to get bread, drinks and when our steak was delivered, we served ourselves. He came back 5-6 minutes later to serve it but..... This may be a one off, but we have come to expect more at Knickerbockers.

The food is really bad for stake house in New York standards . The service was average , in our group of 4 we had one person only joining for drinks, but we were told that he needed to order at least one plate or we cannot stay, so we were forced to order for him even though we were not going to eat it.
Always excellent in the Village
Today, as it always is, the Knickerbocker was a great place to have lunch. Not crowded at noon so the atmosphere was peaceful. Good waiter, excellent lamb burger, sweet dessert, good coffee. The perfect neighborhood lunch spot.
Knickerbocker Never Disappoints
Excellent food in a classy and luxurious atmosphere.
Outstanding, once again
We've visited Knickerbocker many times over the years, this time for brunch. The Cobb Salad was outstanding as was the staff and service. We love the room, but when it is full it can get a little loud. Small price to pay for this treasure.
The Knickerbocker is like a local club. Never had a bad meal here and the ambiance is warm and inviting.
I love this restaurant--it's close to me and the food is good. They make incredible stake and chopped salad. The service is spotty unfortunately. Good jazz on Saturday(?)...the wine list is OK.
