Kenichi Pacific will "wow" you with its highly praised Japanese Pan-Asian cuisine and sushi, and its contemporary ambiance. In a relaxed, elegant setting, Kenichi offers unforgettable original dishes, such as the Duck Confit, a Chinese five-spice cured duck leg served with russett potatoes and wild mushrooms in a delicious balsamic reduction sauce. The Ono Tataki grilled rare, stands out as well, with mashed yams, green beans, japanese mushrooms and a ponzu emulsion. Another "must try" is the Dynamite Shrimp, tempura shrimp baked with smelt aioli and teriyaki sauce.
The presentation and the flavors are equally superb. Of course, only the freshest fish and seafood are used, so the sushi is impeccable. The molten flourless chocolate cake is achieving legendary status, so save room for a delicious finish!

Our food was delicious! She had steak carpaccio and I had duck confit. Perfectly cooked, paired with sides that only complimented the flavors. This was our first time, but definitely not our last! Nice and quiet, staff were on it too. Great place for special evening!

Best restaurant in Keauhou Kona, Hawaii
Great food and great service and friendly staff. We have had wonderful food at kenichi for many years. It is a local gem and so nice to have a very professional restaurant locally. There are other good ethnic restaurants but Kenichi is very special especially for good friends and family to have dinner. The location is easy to find and the parking is not a problem.

Surprising Shopping Center Asian Eatery
Last night on the Big Island and on the south side of Kona, my wife and I used the OpenTable app to get some options. This was in the top 3 within 2 and 10 miles, so off we went. To our utter surprise seeing the restaurant in a strip center, we ventured in. The hostess and wait staff were very pleasant and attentive. The menu was diverse with so much it made it difficult to choose. After sticking to sushi, each and every roll was delicious, well made and a solid value. Strongly recommend this place.

As I walked past Keichi's several times I would see Mac nut. Encrusted lamb chops on the menu In fact everything on that menu looked inviting Four of us made reservations on line( really easy) for the next evening The service , beverages and nice outdoor seating were perfect Yes I had the lamb and it was fantastic We all enjoyed the entire evening and are going back next week We did not take advantage of the happy hour but heard it is outstanding

Still good, but...
We have been visiting Kenichi on the Big Island for many years, and have always loved the food, and the quiet little spot where you wouldn't expect to find a very nice restaurant. Everything is fresh, well prepared and our servers have always been friendly and knowledgeable. Our current trip was no exception in those areas, however, we did find that the portion sizes seem to be getting smaller. One of our favorite dishes has always been the beef Carpaccio - I don't think we've had a better one anywhere - ever. I normally don't even eat beef, but I make an exception for this dish!! However, on the last trip, the serving size was considerably smaller. Although still excellent, we were expecting more - both based on past experience and the fact that this is a pretty expensive dish! I still recommend Kenichi for all the reasons I listed, but with the number of good restaurant options around, the small changes we've seen might cause us to start going less often than before.

Great choice on a first day of the new year!
We arrived on time but waited a few before someone approached us. The "Wait to be seated" sign was visible but no one was attending the podium until a lady carrying a pot of hot tea came up and I approached her to announce our reservation. I immediately saw my name on her electronic screen and pointed it our to her. I'm not sure if Open Table is somewhere on that screen as to how the reservation was made, nothing was mentioned..hmmm. We then were seated to a table of our choice. We made a nice range of selecting several different items on the menu and all of it was absolutely Delicious - we are planning to return soon:). The night ended with a deep fried ice cream dessert that was well enjoyed!

Food was awful. Could not bite a piece of sushi in half due to a big sinewy mouthful. The sushi rice was also not properly made and very starchy. We also had the dim sum which was gummy, tasteless and stick to your teeth. I had a vegetable salad that was good. What a bummer.

Awesome sushi and service
Our second visit to Kenichi was as fantastic as the last. As usual, the staff was attention but not pushy, especially our server, Jamila. Her knowledge of the sushi helped us order a delicious meal. The chef obviously created our dishes with expertise and pride. Other staff worked as a team to make sure our table was well cared for. From the moment we walked in to the time we left, we were treated as VIPs. We will definitely be back when in town.

We went on a recommendation from a local. The menu was extensive and had many choices the waiter made helpful suggestions. The crab cake appetizer was amazing as was the sushi. The passion fruit martini was also very good. We had a very enjoyable eating experience.
Overall we rate this place highly, as we have dined here before. Issue this time, however, was in regard to the actual 'portions' on the plate. We ordered a 'scallop' dinner, both of us for $32 each. Large hot plates were brought out and to our dismay only 4 small scallops on the plate. Also served with some small portions of veggies, but we were shocked at this. This 'sleight of hand' as I would call it, will hinder us from returning in the future. Most of the 5:00 crowd was over at the bar getting food at discount prices, still this was ridiculous.
A special place for us
we had our wedding reception dinner here in 2009 so this restaurant has a special place in our hearts. Not only do we get here each September for our anniversary dinner; but we make it here three or four times for our other special occasions. It's just a great restaurant!

Beef carpaccio is the BEST!!! Filet Mignon was cooked to perfection, very tender and flavorful and the presentation is like food art. Avocado Mac nut salad is a must. We love this place. It never disappoints

The dishes here are uniformly excellent with extremely fresh ingredients and creative preparations. It is probably one of the best if not the best places on the Kona coast for east-west fusion cuisine and would recommend it without reservation. A caution is that the happy hour ads are a bit misleading in that the discounts are only available in the bar and not through out the restaurant.
Big range between dishes
The special for the day was fresh ahi with mango wrapped in rice paper in a sweet pepper sauce and it was outstanding. On the other hand my wife ordered tempura prawns and the tempura was so greasy she had to scrape it off to eat the prawns.
Delicious fresh menu, not only Japanese or sushi for those wanting lamp, chicken or fresh fish, they have it ALL! I Love the new style sashimi and Tony's poke salad!

Mentionned that one of in our party had a seafood allergy.Well after bringing the sushi to the table the chef yeld to my son not to eat some of them...it was to late .He got a full food allergic reaction.Are they for real !had to leave on the spot.

The food was good, but everything else was subpar. It's a semi-expensive sushi restaurant that you would hope the ambiance and service would match, but unfortunately that was not the case for us. Our waitress was taking care of a much larger table than ours and spent the majority of the time tending to their needs, which is understandable to a degree. A couple things, however, we ordered steamed edame and our food came out before, no big deal, but when we got the edame she said here is the grilled edame (more expensive than steamed ) we told her we had ordered the steamed edame and she said yeah these were steamed. Of course, later the check charged us for the more expensive edame. Next, we had a 10percent discount that we informed her about at the beginning of dinner that was missed. She did fix it for us but, it just fit with the rest of the night. Like i said she seemed busy and overworked with the larger table, but it really affected our overall experience. Overall the ambience and service just didn't fit the price of the restaurant. Food was good, but wouldn't recommend this restaurant.
Good. Could be better.
Overall a good restaurant if you've never served. I don't think it's the servers fault but they have way to big of sections. Two servers are running the whole restaurant and it leads to some pretty bad service. Slow waters, order taking, slow table greets, etc.
Great food and service!
We truly enjoyed our experience at Kenichi's from the delightful host to the attentive server Jess to the most extraordinary meal we've had during our vacation in Kona. The black cod was buttery, rich and absolutely wonderful. The fish special was seared opah served on a bed of asparagus risotto and was excellent. We most certainly will return!
This restaurant is a great place to go to for that Japanese food that you are craving.
We checked in for our reservation for two on time, but they made us wait another 15 minutes for a table. After we were seated it took another 20 minutes before our waitress came and we got water. After the waitress took our beginning drink order, it took another 20 minutes before our wine came. So it was almost an hour after our dinner reservation time before we could place our food order. Although the food was very good when it came, the extra hour of delay had ruined our dinner for a special occasion.
Dinner at Kenichi Pacific
From appetizers to dessert our dining experience was a gustatory delight. The carpaccio presentation was lovely and the taste excellent. The miso soup with clams was tasty and the clams , presented in their shells, were fresh, and just right for the bowl. The California roll was all you'd expect from an upscale Japanese restaurant. My entree was the risotto with Hawaiian prawns. Again, the presentation lovely and the taste delicious. The risotto was creamy and flavorful! Bananas Foster was a delicious but personally I prefer it flaming at table side. All in all, it was a great meal and our server was attentive but not hovering. I plan on a return trip to enjoy other menu items on the extensive menu.

Kenichi Pacific offers consistently wonderful fare, fantastic service, and a great dining experience. I can honestly say I have never ordered anything there that was not exceptional. This is our favorite restaurant in Kona, hands down. Michael is an outstanding server, and his professional and friendly attitude, accompanied by the delectable menu at Kenichi, keeps us coming back! Great job, Kenichi!
