Great for carnivores, just ok if you aren't .

My husband and I were in NYC for the weekend and we were really excited to visit Keen's for dinner Friday night. My first impression was surprise at how many tables they have jammed into the dining room we were seated in. We were seated very close to our neighboring diners. Fortunately, both couples were very friendly so it was not a problem. My husband had a filet and he loved it. We had the bacon appetizer that I had heard was delicious. It was a little undercooked for my taste but still tasty. I had the Caesar salad and a baked potato as I can't really eat much red meat. The salad had several large pieces of anchovies in it, other than that it was great! Overall, I was happy with the service, the waiters were friendly and attentive. I was a little surprised that they don't give you the menu until after you have been seated and served cocktails. We have many friends and family who are serious about their steaks, I will certainly recommend Keen's to them to try on their next visits to NYC.

We have been to Keen's on a few occasions, and it has always been wonderful. The service is attentive, knowledgeable and professional. My father could not have been happier to celebrate his birthday dinner here. The food was perfectly executed and delicious, with a diverse wine list to match. Will certainly be back - my favorite steakhouse in NYC!

A classic steakhouse and a NYC landmark.

Unbeatable single malt list, bar scene, and steaks. A NYC landmark that has made the transition from its 19th century roots to 21st century relevance. It's a magnet.

My husband and I both ordered Prime Rib, medium rare. It was perfection plus. Never tasted such juicy delicious meat. All we did was ooh and ahh as we ate every ounce. Few places in the world can cook Prime Rib this well. We also shared a baked potato and brown butter carrots. It's worth the trip from California to dine here once or twice a year. We made our Thanksgiving reservation already. This is our favorite restaurant in NYC. Have tried several other steakhouses but much prefer this old time establishment. Everything is done to distinction here.

Liking Keens!

Took clients to Keens while in NYC. Great place. Food was a little pricey, but hey, it's New York. Make reservations early because it gets packed. I'll be back.

Not worth the price and hype

Dined on April 22, 2016

We chose to eat at Keen's Steakhouse based on the rave reviews we were seeing online, but I don't understand what the hype was all about. I had the 8oz filet with fries, and my husband had the NY sirloin with a baked potato. We also ordered the bacon for an appetizer. The best part of the meal was the bacon. It was delicious. The steaks were very bland. I will give them credit for their homemade steak sauce - I wish it was sold commercially. Overall, however, we'd have been better off going to some other place to eat for half the price we paid. I would also like to note that our server, whose name I cannot recall, was exceptional.

Love this place!

Dined on April 21, 2016

Have been here many times, and it never disappoints. I rarely order meat elsewhere because Keens has spoiled me. Great porterhouse and lamb chops this time. Excellent sides (roasted cauliflower and hash brown). Good wine list, with many bottles under $100.

Excellnt Business Lunch

Dined on April 21, 2016

The staff at Keens is wonderful. All of us felt the meal was fantastic, fillet, rib eye and sea bass. Side of spinach was delicious. We had plenty of time to enjoy the moose room speak with indoor voices and enjoy sharing a bibble for dessert. I would highly recommend eating in history and enjoying it from start to finish here.

Not impressed with the muttonchop big to eat piece of me. Would've been much more desirable if it was half as thick you could cut it. The New York strip sirloin is also very thick and not a good under piece of meat I'll stick with Wolfgang's

First visit to Keens and it was all that was expected. Great steaks , food and wine selection. Would have rated the place higher but the front door staff acted particular unfriendly on our arrival. The rest of the team was however brilliant and made up for this during the rest of the evening. Can only recommend Keens.

Just Okay

Dined on April 17, 2016

Wasn't our favorite steak house, but wasn't the worst. For the amount of money you spend here I would have expected a little better service (more attentive, and faster) and much tastier food (steak was at least cooked correctly but was extremely hard to cut and eat. sides were very good though -- very creamy mashed potatoes). Decor is really cool but overall the experience was just okay.

Not just a steakhouse

Dined on April 16, 2016

Eating at Keen's is not just a meal but an occasion. From the outside you have no idea of what lies within. When inside you realise that you have entered somewhere special that has seen and delivered great food throughout history. From the wooden panels on the walls to the high standard of service , this restaurant delivers. When it comes to the food, it cannot be faulted. Every course is a delight to the senses, with the steaks cooked to perfection. Yes, you might say that it is a little pricey but to eat this well and in these surroundings, I certainly don't mind paying a little more at times.

Ugh.

Dined on April 15, 2016

I had really high hopes for this place. I put in a lot of research into picking out a good steakhouse for dinner in midtown, as I was coming from out of state and I don't spend a lot of time in midtown if I can help it. This restaurant was so disappointing. Our waiter was unpleasant. Incredibly so, and we could overhear him and the other waitresses talking about a party they attended the night before and how hung over he was. The food was mediocre. My steak was not cooked to my liking (I ordered rare and it was much closer to medium). I would have returned it but honestly, I was anxious to leave. I personally think my money would have done much better somewhere else, but lesson learned..

Really enjoyed

Dined on April 12, 2016

As an Englishman in New York, this was a great place to go to experience an American steakhouse. The food quality was outstanding and the atmosphere great. This did not seem to be a tourist hot-spot and, as such, had standards designed to attract repeat business rather than the one-off visitor. We were fortunate to have chosen something that matched our eating capacity. Tempting as the Ribeye might have been, the filet mignon at 8 oz with a healthy sized chunk of lobster worked well - at 24 oz, the Ribeye may well have been uncomfortable (for us, at least). Great place, enjoyed it. It will be on our list for the next visit.

If you are looking for a romantic or nice place, this is not it. Tables r so close every New Yorker is not talking quitely. Service is terrible. But I came for the Mutton Chop and it didn't disappoint. Was delicious. I wouldn't go back jus for the Mutton Chop as the environment ruins it. The fillet was jus ok

Worth a visit

Dined on April 11, 2016

Had dinner at Keens on a Monday night. Waiter said they were slow that night and only had 550 reservations. It is a very busy, energetic place, but not off putting. Service was professional and friendly. Waiter knew the menu and was not adverse to making suggestions. My husband and I both had steak and it was among the best we had ever had. I like mine medium rare and he is a well done. Both were cooked exactly as ordered. Shared a salad which was average, and cauliflower/broccoli mix. Quite good and not overdone. Hubby had crème brulee for dessert and loved it. I had key lime pie. It was tasty, but not authentic (I have spent a lot of time in keys). Recommend it, for food and décor, and history, all of which is interesting. Been in business since 1885 so they definitely know what they are doing.
