We started with the tuna tartar. Then I had the special, sword fish with mashed potatoes, spinach, and mango sauce. My wife ordered the Hawaiian roll and the Hawaiian dragon roll. We finished with the chocolate lava cake. Everything was absolutely delicious. The flavor explodes in my mouth and I wanted more. The service was outstanding. The waitress checked up on us and made sure we were OK. To top it off, the soft music in the background was all island reggae, which is my favorite genre.

We took the waiter's recommendations. The miso sea bass was great, but the ribs were pretty bad, dry and bland...Yelp had really good reviews but I was not impressed.

A taste of Hawaii in the mountains
The fried ahi tuna alone is worth the drive from San Francisco! We had a great dinner and possibly some of the best sushi I've ever had. We will be back!
Always a stop when in south Lake Tahoe
Their sea bass is a specialty my favorite, sushi and steaks are also really good. Spent 4 hours there eating sushi and drinks and then followed by dinner with friends didn't even know it was 4 hours until we left, it was a great time!

Fine dining gem
Kalani is very conveniently located in Heavenly Village, so it was a short walk to our hotel. Food was excellent! Great selection of sushi!! Service was just okay. Our waitress did not check in with us after we were served dinner, and she did not refill our drinks. As far as value, Kalani's is definitely higher priced for entrées than I would normally pay for ($35+ for most entrees) so it is good for special occasions, but wouldn't make it a weekend habit.

Love the food, happy hour deal and I just love the vibe!
I would have given this five stars if it's wasn't for two things. The girls at the front were very rude no greeting when you walked in or left just snooty attitudes and the restaurant was pretty empty and we were sat at a tiny table for two and they had another couple come in eight after us and they say them at the table about 12 inches away from us....we were practically at the same table! There were a ton of open tables all of the restaurant but they had to sit them right next to us. Our food was amazing and our waiter was great!

We very much enjoyed our meal and they have a great wine selection. We shared a salad (if you split it yourself they don't charge you an extra dollar or two for them to do it) and we had the Hawaiian sea bass, which is excellent. And our waitress was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and wine. Definitely recommend this place.

Solid Asian Japanese food with Hawaiian influenced. We go here at least once each time we r in the area
Disappointing and overpriced
Service was ok but slow; the lettuce wraps and heavenly salad were excellent but the Thai chicken and sea bass were horrible and way overpriced. The chicken was burned and tasted like ash, the Thai curry was watery and had no flavor. Never coming back.

It was a busy night when my husband and I ate at Kalani's. Walking in with reservations, we waited about 5 minutes for our table, completely reasonable. Once seated it took our server a bit of time to ask for our drink order or for water and bread to be brought over. By this time we were already set to order without hearing the specials as it had been some time. Our server returned to let us know they were out of our beer selection. We over heard the tables around us receiving similar messages about drinks and side orders. They seemed to run out of a lot of things. Once we received our food, we very much enjoyed our meal. It would have been nice if it was a tad quieter, as it was difficult to hear one another at times. We are not the type to need a silent atmosphere for dinner, but I felt like we were yelling to each other some times. Over all the food was great, the service was ok and we would return.
Great for special occasions!
My husband and I are locals. Though we've enjoyed Kalani's happy hour many times, it's the exquisite preparation of their appetizers that compelled us to go there for dinner to celebrate my husband's birthday. It was quite a treat with their entrees being just as good as the appetizers; exceedingly tasty and a delight for the eyes! We lingered, staying for dessert, and it was a very enjoyable evening.
Hawaii in Tahoe
We lucked upon this restaurant a few years back, and have been back many times since. If you love sushi, this is a fantastic place to eat it, always fresh and delicious. They have many other fabulous items on their menu as well if sushi isn't your thing, like coconut shrimp, lobster bisque, and a Karobuta pork chop. It is an interesting menu which reminds me of Hawaii, yet located in the mountains. They also have fabulous drinks, like a Blueberry Cucumber Fizz.
We decided to eat here and the food was just delicious! I got the seabass and my fiance got the duck. Both FANTASTIC!

Always enjoy this place, we come every year. Nice hostess, fine server. However, I was shocked when discovered my Rainbow roll was pre-made!! Will not return!
I made a reservation for Kalani's. When we arrived, there were 2 ladies at the front desk, neither of them acknowledged us for 4-5 minutes. When I told them we had a reservation, we were told that they would be cleaning our table shortly. We had to wait 15 minutes to be seated. Why make a reservation if you still have to wait. Seems to me that they went ahead and took walk ins ahead of my reservation. Not cool. Would not go back just based on how we were treated. Spent $300 to be treated poorly...

I have been to Kalani's numerous times. The food is consistently great. The sea bass, sushi rolls and mahi mahi & crab are fantastic. The price is a bit high but the quality is the best around. Kalani's is a nice place for date night or special occasion.
Their sushis were subpar.
We tried this restaurant several times, and in general, we like this place although it's rather expensive. Previously, we ordered their steaks and seafoods, which were rather good. This time, however, we decided to order their sushis. Unfortunately, their sushis, especially, nigiri's, were subpar in my opinion. For example, their Assorted Sushi & Sashimi cost $40, but it was not too different from sushi's you get from your local supermarkets. They consisted of just the standard type of sashimi's and nigiri's: regular (not too tasty) maguro, salmon, octopus, hamachi, ebi. Nothing fancy: no ikura; no uni. So, we were quite dissapointed. If you want to have sushi's in South Lake Tahoe, I would recommend The Naked Fish instead.
Hawaiian inspired Tahoe gem
Elegant, comfortable space; superb sushi and seafood, elegantly presented with impeccable service. I'm a picky foodie with a restaurant background and Kalani's exceeded my expectations on all fronts. Waitstaff were welcoming, friendly and also did everything correctly on a very busy night.
Great place in South Tahoe
The food here is very consistent and tasty. It has become our go to place every time we are in town. They have great selections of quality meals. A bit pricey but has nice ambiance.
Great South Lake Tahoe Spot
Kahalini's is one of a kind. The happy hour is terrific, the food fabulous, and the staff is outstanding. We enjoyed the duck lumpia and vegetable sushi roll in the bar and then had fish entrees in the main dining room. We would definitely recommend it to others and the place was quite popular.
An ok thanksgiving dinner
I picked this restaurant to have our thanksgiving dinner because it looked interesting. The decor and ambiance were great! It is a nice place. They had a special traditional dinner: a crab chowder or salad (both very good), turkey with all the trimmings and a choice of dessert. You were not given a choice between white and dark meat, which I would have liked and the mashed potatoes were too garlicky. The gravy was pretty bland. We did the wine pairing and it was great. I would go back. I would just order a la carte.
We have dined at this restaurant before but at this visit the food was exceptional! The service was excellent and the whole experience was very enjoyable!
Outstanding experience .
Maybe the best dinner place in South Lake Tahoe. Every thing was perfect on a quiet Thursday night. All sea food dishes are creative and delicious. Service was impeccable and the dining room was quiet and beautiful. Was hard to find, buried in the huge shopping plaza - but, asking around the Hyatt Residence got directions to the parking garage and into the mall.

Our server was very good.
Great for lunch or dinner. Something for everyone. I really enjoy the sushi. I've been here with big groups and small groups and each person in the group had a good experience.

Came back for the duck, this time was not as good, too rare! Duck sushi is not something I'm into. #sampler appetizer was NOT worth $33. $20 at the most.
Pork belly lettuce wrap appetizer and misoyaki sea bass were so ono! A Hawaiian gem in Tahoe...loved it.
Always Spot On
Love this place for many reasons, we usually sit at the Sushi Bar and let the chefs select for us. We have never been disappointed!
All around a great experience
The food and drinks were above average in taste and preperation. Beautiful night. Great service. We stayed while they were removing the linens from the tables after closing and was told that we were more than welcome to continue sitting and enjoying our evening.

Loved it. Varied menu. Nice sushi and rolls. Fabulous seabass and soft shell crab. Impressive wine list. The chef doesn't over play the Hawaiian aspect of the cuisine - seems to strike a great fusion balance of island fruit with classic, mostly seafood dishes. Very nicely done. Professional waitstaff. Definitely worth a try.
Simply excellent all around
i went here with my girlfriend on my birthday. We got salmon, tuna, eel, and crab nigiri sushi and they were all fantastic, particularly the crab and eel. The fish was so fresh that it melted in your mouth, the rice was cooked perfectly, and the ginger and wasabi were fresh. We only got sushi so I can't speak to other food in the menu, but if it's even close to as good as th sushi it will be a great meal. We also got a bottle of wine and our server let us taste a couple different wines before buying a bottle, which was very nice of him. Our server (don't remember his name, started with a T?) was great. He was accommodating yet confident and knowledgable enough to make recommendations that were suited for what we told him we were looking for. Loves it so much I went back for lunch th next day. Overall it was an excellent place to have dinner.
