Nice menu selection & the service was excellent. I had the Predator Old Vine Zinfandel & it was awesome!
What's hapen to Joe
We have been to this restaurant several times and enjoyed our meals every time until this visit. Food was bland. My fish was under cooked. Desert (flourless chocolate cake) was generous & delicious. My wife's peach infused prosecco was strange.
Food was good, music was horrible
Our food was good, hot and tasty. The apple dessert was very good, but the pastry part was not flaky, far from it. Our server was nice, but their uniforms need to be clean and pressed-first impression. They had a musician and he was in my opinion, awful and way too loud. Jo, the gm, was their, working away, being very friendly, Jimmy, her assistant was very helpful. We'll be back as clearly they have improved a lot.
Small by Suprise
This restaurant was amazing. They had lovely staff and the food was great. The staff was friendly, and offered great menu suggestions. I ordered a burger and my mother ordered a fish filet sandwich. Both meals were delightful.
We ordered the lobster roll, steak and salmon— all were delicious! Bread with olives is a great way to start the meal. Did feel a tiny bit rushed as the server cleared so much off the table as we were finishing up. She was very nice about it though. Other than that, it was a great experience!
Great location in the downtown area with intimate seating arrangements. Service was excellent and the food was top notch all around. Prices were fair for the area and our party of 7 had high 5's all around for the total experience. Thanks ..!!
We had an excellent experience at Jo's. Great food, great service, great value! It was Restaurant Week so we got in on a three course meal for $35 per person.
We have not been disappointed at Jo's yet. When friends come to town, we take them here because the food is delicious, the wine, drinks are great and we always have great service. It is a nice place, but also pretty casual. The fried oysters are our "go to" appetizer. I think they know when we walk in to just put 2 orders in before we even order drinks! Highly recommend Jo's America Bistro.
Outstanding dishes all the way around.
Took advantage of Restaurant weeks 3 course dinners. The lobster pasta dish was incredible...must have had half a lobster in it and very tasty, for $35 the diner was a steal. The ambiance nice, service very attentive and engaging/fun. This moves way up the list of places to go in Newport.
Great staff, food mediocre
The food wasn't the best, wasn't bad either. Staff was very attentive and the ambiance was good.
Jo's is one of our go to restaurants in Newport
Never had a bad meal there and they always treat you well. They are also willing to customize some dishes. An all around fine restaurant. Also love the bar and decor
So good we went back
Went to Jo's for my birthday in August. My husband has a severe issue with soy and often has trouble finding food at restaurants. Because Jo's chefs make all the sauces and marinades and even desserts my husband was able to eat much on the menu. It was so easy in August that we just went back for a quick weekend away in Newport just to go eat again at Jo's. Again they had great selections for him to eat - including the salad dressing and the chocolate flourless cake. Cannot remember the last time he was able to eat a delicious chocolate dessert at a restaurant. He had the swordfish the first time and the pork chop this time. I had steak the first time and the duck this time and all were superb. We'll be back.
Food was awesome . Dessert looked awesome but all of them had alcohol so for folks in recovery limited choices ice cream only. Diet Coke was watery but fixable.
An all-around positive experience.
It was a rainy Monday night in March, definitely an off time in the off season, but we were greeted warmly and treated well. The mid-week winter special is a real steal, $20.95 for an appetizer, entree and glass of wine. A tasty, substantial salad was followed by perfectly-prepared salmon on lentils, and the warm olive rolls were a welcome addition. All four of us were tempted by dessert and my chocolate stout with vanilla ice-cream was odd, but a fun way to end the meal. I'll definitely return.
Fried Oyster appetizer was amazing!
Fried Oyster appetizer was amazing!
Had some of the best food here. It was delicious, and I know food. I like a place that takes typical food and adds flavors that are unusual. This is what they do. Fried polenta. Red cabbage that has added flavors. A pork chop that is juicy. Crispy cooked kale. A wonderful dinner. The ambience is perfect, a bit rustic, though with white table clothes. Very friendly staff and attentive, friendly service. All and all a great dining experience.
A relaxing atmosphere & great food
We usually visit Newport in the summer and understand why Jo's always has a crowd. The food is excellent. Our server (Neil) was attentive without being intrusive. We will definitely return and recommend Jo's to our friends.
Excellent service! Staff were warm and attentive. Food was delicious.
Wonderful food and service, excellent value!
My husband and I enjoyed wonderful meals from the Prix Fixe menu. Service was terrific and the food extremely well-priced for the quality. The wine list was unusual and very fairly priced. Our server couldn't have been better. Thanks!
Very nice on a cold weekend.
Strip steak was a little tough. Bar was nice. Service was very good.
First visit was a success! Owner could not have been more accommodating and friendly. Server was personable and extremely competent. Food was delicious, above expectations to be honest. Prices were fair. Wonderful night and loved the atmosphere and friendly neighborhood yet romantic feel. Well done!
A Charming Spot
We've been to Jo's American Bistro a few times and it's always been quite a fun night. This past visit was no exception. Wonderful food and warm, efficient service. The calamari is great, with fried lemon slices and a tart, delicious sauce (served in a plastic ramekin though which is somewhat off-brand). The pork chop was excellent as was the steak frites. A slight hiccup in service was gracefully taken care of by the manager. I was somewhat apprehensive to see that there was live music. After a long week, I want to talk to my husband and relax. The good thing about JAB is that the music really did enhance the evening and was not disruptive; just a nice backdrop (though many were actively enjoying it in the bar).
Fantastic restaurant with great food.
Our server Alex. was great ,she was able to guide us through the menu explaining what the entree tasted like and a visual of it and service.
A new favorite
As a local who mostly avoids going into Newport in the summer we had not yet tried Jo's, a relatively new restaurant in town. We finally tried it and were pleasantly surprised to discover a terrific place that is now at the top of our fave list for a special dinner. Decor is pleasing - elegant yet cozy. Service was friendly and expert and our party of six ordered a variety of selections that all received rave reviews regarding presentation and taste. Entrees included duck, seafood fra diavolo, pork chop, salmon, and shrimp - all delicious. Prices were fair for the high quality of the menu offerings and service. We were headed to a play and did not have time to order desserts so will look forward to that on our next visit. Which will be soon!
Just the kind of food we were looking for. Friendly, helpful staff. Good food. Not a huge menu. Winter deals. Very pleasant evening. Hope they are still there when we visit again.

The Ideal Dinner
We were a group of four with very different taste in food. The restaurant was ideal as the menu offered a nice selection of options. The quality, value and taste was excellent. There are many choices in Newport but we would definitely eat here again if we are return. The server was attentive and friendly.
We were offered a table right next to a table with two young children, which we declined.. and things got much better after that. Nice meal, friendly waitress.
We had another great dinner at Jo's and truly enjoyed all of the food and drinks! We asked to sign up for their frequent diner's club and since we had been there before, they gave us a credit on goodwill. Excellent service and excellent food. We will be back again. P.S. Order the truffle French fries!
I absolutely adore this restaurant. The service is spectacular. Accommodating and welcoming without overbearing, and the owner is an absolute delight! I've ordered the Steak Frites and Four Cheese Pasta, both of which were spectacular! Flavorful and expertly prepared.
New Year's Eve dinner
This was our first visit to the restaurant, chosen based on open table reviews. This was a dining experience a step above some of the "brass rail" type restaurants in Newport. I selected the prix fix menu and my boyfriend ordered from the regular menu. Both dinners were equally enjoyable. We had a table in the upstairs dining room which was intimate and nicely lighted. Service was attentive but not intrusive. We will definitely return to Jo's on our next trip to Newport.

Had a wonderful time. Great food, good service, attentive staff. Already planning our next trip back
Good place. Try it.
Had this restaurant recommended by our Innkeeper the first time. Had better service, food and much better price then many of the more pricey spots we tried. We made a point of returning on this trip. Again, good food, good and friendly service and good price in a cozy spot. Enough said!
Excellent Moderately-priced Restaurant
There are several expensive well-regarded restaurants in Newport that qualify as places for a special occasion, but Jo's is a worthwhile alternative if you are just looking for a good meal. We enjoyed the spicy calamari with the fried lemon in particular, but the salmon and duck breast were also tasty and memorable - the vanilla glaze on the duck complemented the fowl quite well. Our waitress was solicitous throughout the meal, and her suggestions provided a helpful guide.

Dinner @ Jo's American Bistro
My wife and I had dinner for our anniversary, we ordered the fried oysters and this was the start of a WOW dinner. The presentation was outstanding, 6 oysters each in their spoon with a delightful sauce and they just were a delight to the palate. Rolls were also served, which were fresh and warm. Then the lobster bisque, served at room temperature, another delight. We both ordered the cod, the presentation superb, vegetables on the side decorating the plate, a healthy serving of cod, and very fresh. Dessert was no disappointment, apple cobbler of some sort, soft pastry with apples, very nice. Each serving was brought by someone other than the waiter who was just delightful and charming. Can't wait to return in the future, we are not from the area.
Great food with great service
Loved the food and the service. Hot and delicious in a great atmosphere. Bar was hopping so make ressies. Worth every penny!
Highly recommend, especially if you're in a hurry.
Lovely restaurant; fabulous meal! Too many table attendants--meal felt rushed.
Great addition to Newport
This was my first time at Jo's and I went for restaurant week. One problem with RW is most restaurants kind of skimp on what they serve where it's supposed to be an opportunity to show new diners why they should come back. This place did not skimp at all and definitely impressed. The duck drumettes were amazing. the lobster carbonara had PLENTY of lobster and was very delicious. I was impressed, actually. The weakest part was the creme brule. It lacked flavor and sweeteness. This is why the food gets 4 instead of 5 stars.

As always a great meal! The clam chowder was amazing! Lobster carbonara had a generous portion of lobster. The short rib was fall off the bone tender and vegis were perfectly cooked.
