Jean Claude 2 Ratings and Reviews
Good French food and great service
We enjoyed an authentic French meal and had excellent service. We'll be back!
Well-prepared French bistro food. Their mussels mariniere are to die for. I just wish the seating were a bit less cramped and more comfortable.
Best little french bistro on the UES
the owner is a professional the food is delicious at a reasonable price This little place is a gem in the UES you will feel like you are in a Paris bistro
Jean-Claude II was delicious and delightful, with pleasant service. We dined at Jean Claude II many years ago and remembered a bar (and the option to order hard liquor). We quickly overcame our minor disappointment and enjoyed a great meal. We'll return.
Superb fois gras, excellent pork loin, perfect creme brulee. And QUIET. You don't have to shout to be heard by your dining companion sitting across from you. Quiet, smooth service.
Lovely intimate neighborhood bistro
Have dined here on three occasions. Excellent onion soup, moderately priced main dishes, pleasant service. We've taken friends here and the only complaint is that they are wine only...so all the vodka, gin lovers were a little disappointed.

everything was great but waiter had an off day. got a couple of things wrong with order. comped a dessert to make up for it so all good in the end.

The ambience and noise level was perfect for an early dinner. The worst part of it was they didn't even have a blocker(curtain) for the cold weather in Valentine's Day. Yes when you have multiple guests coming in and out of the restaurant holding the door unapologetically letting the cold air in. cold air +plus hot food =cold food. Yes rude people need to be accounted for. Food was ok. Not great. A bit over priced for a well done steak. Would not go back even if it were good weather. Couldn't get out of there fast enough.
love this place. we go all the time...its right around the corner. the staff couldn't be friendlier and the food is always yummy!

We were welcomed graciously and the atmosphere was very upbeat. Our dinners were delicious and the service was perfect
Very yummy accompanied by a wonderful value.
On a recent business trip to NY to attend an auction at Sotheby's, I had the opportunity to have a late lunch at Jean Claude's. Not being familiar with any restaurants near the auction house, I found a number of favorable reviews with regard to this restaurant being the following: "A neighborhood gem, wonderful staff with a charming ambiance and overall excellent food at a bargain price for New York". I found all of the above to be accurate. Since I was there by myself, the owner came over and sat at my table for a few minutes to chat. He explained that although I was there for a very late lunch, the next time I should try dinner as they have two, different accomplished chefs. The restaurant was quiet (which I loved). The French Onion Soup was about as good as it gets, and I settled for a Hanger Steak with Pomme Frites with a glass of a French Red. All were very tasty I certainly will be back, and looking forward to working my way through their menu in subsequent trips. Especially, since the prices are so reasonable for the quality and experience. Would recommend this establishment for those seeking a quieter place with a small group-1-4 folks.
I had the hanger steak that was cooked to perfection and my partner (who doesn't always care for seafood) had the skate which he devoured. We walked out wondering why we don't come here more often and we plan to in the future.

Owned by two brothers who are spirited souls, this restaurant is a pleasure. It boasts very good cuisine, a charming atmosphere, and gracious service!
Staff exceedingly accommodating. Meal delicious. We were dining with older parents and the host went to great lengths to seat us comfortably in a less crowded nook. Treated like VIPs. Lovely evening. Thank you!

Excellent Local Restaurant
Great little neighborhood restaurant with ambience of french cafe. Good food, lively, good service, good wines. Always welcoming.
Great neighborhood restaurant
Always reliable, good food, friendly and efficient service
Kindness speaks volumes
The two gentlemen onsite provided the kindest service I have had in a long time. They were attentive, but not overbearing and engaged but not overly conversational. Quite a balance and a perfect lunch for two.
Fantastic food. The foie gras was unforgettable. Gracious and attentive service. I recommend to everyone I know going to New York.
We are not from New York but go out of our way to have at least dinner at Jean Claude II. It's the closest to a real French Bistro in NY. We especially enjoyed the service; the pace a just right... Not hurried but also not delayed. And lastly, the French Onion Soup is the best...
Feels LIke Home
We love this place -- it never disappoints and we feel like family. We were a group of 6 with 4 enjoying JC2 for the first time -- all now in love. The bistro-style food is well-prepared, and often has some forward-leaning touches. The buzz is convivial and upbeat.
At best, second-rate
My onglet was nearly cold and cooked beyond medium rare, as I had asked. My friend's steak was grey, although she had ordered it rare. The bottle of Bordeaux we ordered was close to vinegar. The waiter/maitre de restaurant cheerfully took it back, to his credit. We thought we could not go wrong with a Rhone, but it too was nearly undrinkable. I suspect the reason is that the wines had not been kept in a cool place. Despite the cheerful service, the meal was a fairly expensive disaster.
Lovely, local resturant
Jean Claude II was recommended to me by a friend. We had the opportunity to try it this past Saturday. The restaurant is tiny. This can be a good thing. We were there early and got lots of attention. We were happy with our food. We would go back.

A darling little eastside bistro
this French cuisine is always 5 stars...exceptional friendly service each time we arrive.I love this cozy cafe...makes you feel like your dining in Toulouse
Excellent service and good food in a relaxed ambience conducive to good conversation. It is a neighborhood gem.
Great French neighborhood restaurant
Love this place. We go there every time we are in the city.
Solid brunch place
The brunch menu has it all - steak, burger, eggs, veggie sandwich, ham and cheese, salads, you name it. The restaurant was almost empty when we went (a Saturday at noon) and the service was great but not overbearing either. Food was good.
Would like to try again . . .
Overall, great find in upper east side area. Food and coffee was very good. Just puzzled as to why I was charged $2 extra per plate ($14) when the lunch menu stated our dishes are $12. Didn't inquire because I was with someone very special.
The food was superb, the restaurant es so cozy and charming, and the service from the guy with glasses was excellent and by the way: he is so charming!
The food was great and so was the service
The food was very good and the service was very attentive.

We are always so happy to be in this warm, lovely little restaurant. This week's lamb loin special was outstanding, as usual!
Jean Claude 2 transports you to Paris. A true bistro atmosphere and good bistro fare.
Like dining in a village near Aix en Provence
Really tasty French cuisine presented beautifully in a warm cozy room. We love to dine here because of the friendly on point staff and ambiance. Thanks again
Loved the food, loved the atmosphere, the host and waiters were exceptional and truly went out of their way to accommodate us. The rabbit was perfection.
NICE LITTLE NEIGBORHOOD FIND
Frequent this restaurant for both brunch and dinner. Food is always consistently good as is the service. Would recommend for a change of pace for mid-week dining .

I went for Sunday brunch. Food was ok. The staff is very friendly and attemptive and I felt very comfortable with my two kids. I would have to revisit and try their lunch and dinner menu in order to better rate this joint.
