Jake's Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Still the Best After all these Years!!
For a quick bite to eat on a Tuesday night, we decided on simple fare at Jake's in Brookfield. The place has been around for many years, and always dependable for a great steak on a special occasion. This night was a little different we arrived at 5:45 pm just in time for $5 drink specials. The cosmo was one of the best I've had in a long time. Sat down at 6:15 pm and enjoyed the best BURGER I've ever had! Heeping stacks of Jake's famous onion rings and a generous ceasar salad. I'm not just going back, I'm planning my next dinner there now!

If it's your first time to Jakes it may be a little confusing as to where the hostess is stationed. You will have to walk past the bar and she is hidden just past that. It's very pretty inside and had that nice steak house smell you hope to get. Everyone was extremely friendly and we were seated for our reservation immediately. The server was very outgoing and did a great job of explaining the menu and offering suggestions. We had the deviled eggs as a starter. They were not the best I have had but still very good....I love deviled eggs though! For our entree I had the 35 year dry aged New York strip and the person I was with had the short ribs. The waitress was a little hesitant in recommending the short ribs but didn't try to convince otherwise. The New York strip was made perfectly and was very good. Again not the best but worth what I paid for it for sure! The short ribs were some of the best that the person that had them has had in some time. The ambiance was perfect for a number of occasions. Being sat close to the fireplace would offer a more romantic feel if that's why you were there. The Resturant was quiet and the service was exceptional. They have a good wine and beer selection along with a full bar. I would recommend Jake's if you have never been before. It is a nice experience and the staff made what would have been a normal meal a better one.
Very disappointed overall. Server tried to up-sell at every turn. Did not mention the Friday Fish Fry but tried to oversell the most expensive "specials" . We were put in the back room with all the other parties of Two, so as to save the big room for larger parties even though there were only a few tables filled at our 6pm reservation. I could not see us ever going back.
Excellent mushroom soup, bread. Salad was ok. Steak had a nice exterior and flavor, but overcooked for medium rare. Very little juice - maybe from the aging? The ice cream desert was fantastic.
Fabulous Per Usual
Rob, our server, went over and above. Food was consistently great. Repeatable.
Monday's Steak Special
As usual the steak was delicious. Also the happy hour is always a relaxing way to start our dining experience.

The restaurant want almost 30 minutes late in seating our reservation. The waitress was not very attentive and there were times that we almost decided to walkout and go elsewhere. The food was good, but it wasn't good enough to make up for the other shortcomings.
Very Pleased. Great Food and Service
It was our first time at Jakes and we really enjoyed it. I had a bone in Ribeye and my wife had a New Your Strip. Both were done exactly right . Our server was prompt and helpful. Our food came out on time and hot. The only thing we thought was a little strange was the choice of a salad OR two sides. You could not have a salad and 1 side without an upcharge. I would definitely go back and would recommend this restaurant to friends and family
Haven't been disappointed yet while dining at Jakes. The steaks are some of the best in Milwaukee, though it hard to pass up their fish entrees.
The service and food were outstanding. I had the prawns and they were the largest I had ever seen. The prices seemed a little high but were expected and it was our anniversary. There are no booths and the tables were a little close so it's hard to have a quiet romantic evening. Somewhat loud but not too bad. I will probably go back but only on special occasions.

Rustic, contemporary atmosphere. Knowledgeable staff. With "old school" Wisconsin supper club trained bartenders and wait staff.
There is not enough words to describe how well Jake's does food!!! I have never been disappointed!! His servers bring a great dining experience with their knowledge of his menu. It is truly a great relaxing dining experience!!!! Been dining there for 20+ years. PS Don't get in a hurry.
all four of us had the 8oz filet and we were all very pleased. one was not at the right temperature and they corrected it immediately. the haystack onion rings were wonderful, as always, and the shrimp cocktail was great. service was excellent.
disappointing fish fry
Jakes was a favorite when my husband and I were growing up. We were looking to try a new place for Friday Fish Fry and made a reservation after seeing it on a list for best fish fry in the area. I don't know who votes for these things, but it was not a good fish fry. It felt dingy, old and a bit rickety and considering the fact that it's not priced lower to make up for that, I can't recommend this one. The service was friendly, however. But if you're a foodie-I'd skip this place.
Another Great Saturday Night at Jakes!
The food and service is always great! They have a nice selection of appetizers and salads. I've had their beet and apple salad, twice now, and it is very flavorful and crisp. The steaks come to your table perfectly prepared and there must be at least 12 different sauces and combinations to make your steak seem anything but plain. The ambiance is warm and romantic especially when sitting near the warm fireplace. The pricing is similar to other fine dining restaurants. The dress code is anything goes, which I feel takes away the feeling of going somewhere "special" on Saturday night. Like wise, I do feel the table setting could be more formal ( tablecloth please) and it would cut down on the noise. Bare wooden tables make me feel like I am in a pub instead of going out for dinner. Still one of my favorite places to go on cold Saturday night!
We'll definitely be back
Our dinner orders - two lamb chop meals and a salmon dish, were all delicious. The haystack onions are enough, by themselves, to insure that we will return. Our waitress was cheerful, attentive and knowledgeable. The blazing fire made the room seem cozy. We have lived here for over 5 years and just discovered Jake's, within 10 minutes of where we live. Our out-of-town guest who accompanied us wants to return on her next visit - bringing her teen-aged sons along next time to sample those onions.
This was my Birthday dinner
We went to Jake's because we received a $20 coupon in the mail. Although this place is 45 minutes away, food is always very good and service is good. I even got a nice dessert for my birthday!
Monday night dinner at Jakes
We visited Jake's for the Monday evening steak deal. You get an 8 ounce tenderloin for 13.95. This is not a low grade piece of meat but the same quality steak you expect from an upscale steakhouse. You will not be disappointed any night of the week but Monday is an exceptional value.
THE FOOD AND SERVICE WAS EXCELLENT .WE HAD THE MONDAY SPECIAL, TENDERLOIN AND ONE CHOICE AND THE FOOD WAS VERY GOOD. IT WAS MY WIFE'S BIRTHDAY AND THEY BOUGHT OUT A ICE CREAM SUNDAY FOR HER WITH 2 SPOONS. THANKS FOR A GREAT NIGHT
Family Dinner with Out of Towners
Our group decided on Jake's Restaurant as it was a nice midway point for out-of-towners. We loved the decor, the twinkly lights on the outside welcoming us in on a windy Friday night. Our hostess was great and had us seated right on time. Our waitress did a great job explaining the history of the restaurant and also why their steaks were so well known. Our only complaint was that each time logs were thrown on the fire, the room becomes quite smoky. It does settle down quickly but if you have breathing issues, you may want to be seated far away from the fireplace.
Noise levels were very high. Waiter disappeared through dinner until the bill came. We were never even offered a second cup of coffee.
they rushed us through, high priced drinks
they rushed us through, high priced drinks wont go back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jakes, a place for steaks
Food was phenomenal, service was excellent. Hostess was a little lacking --she wasn't bad or mean, just not on par with the rest of the experience. Oh well, the food, drinks, and service made up for it.
Will never go back. Awful experience!
The food is way too overpriced for what you get, the service was awful! The server was more interested in what was going on with his Apple Watch than what was happening at our table. The cuts of meat where really fatty and not cooked the way we ordered them.

Overall we love Jakes. The food was excellent, cooked well and delicious.
Comfy, cozy, delicious!
We dined on Sat night before VDay. Restaurant was packed! Bar area too. We had reservations and they were running 20-30 min behind, but we didn't mind. When finally seated, we had the best service ever! MaryJo was kind, attentive and very thorough. She was mindful of our wait and apologized. Again, we didn't mind as we were enjoying our night out. And food was worth the wait! Perfectly cooked steaks, great sides. Odd that dinner came with choice of one salad or two sides. Pick the sides! Twice baked potato with Neuske's bacon....yes, please. We were then "forced" to select a complimentary dessert to make up for slow service. Um, ok. (But we really didn't mind the wait!) Great evening. Will definitely be back! Next time we may have to try the onion strings app. We appeared to be the only diners who didn't order this mountain of what I can only imagine is pure deliciousness.
Food is always top notch, can always expect great specials. Service even better.

My wife and I have been coming here for special occasions, and 'just because' for several years. Actually our second date was at Jakes. It's been a constant up and down experience. Some dinners were great while others were frustrating. Basically boils down that if you have the right server you'll have a wonderful experience. This experience was not the enjoyable type. From being sat in the bar area even though we made the reservation over a week in advance to waiting 15 minutes for our server to come to our table it was a pretty sad evening. An almost inedible salad, and then two bottles of wine that were a different year from the wine list, however not mentioned. No big deal for a dinner at a regular priced restaurant, however when you're having a $400 meal for two I would expect better. Sorry to say, but this tradition for my wife and I has ended.
Grest experience, I would definitely recommend Jakes as a quality steakhouse.
35.00 dollars for filet and no potato and crowded and no mood what so ever
Good food and great service
Service and food were great all around. Our server was very attentive and we didnt have to wait for anything. My wife's bone in filet was one of the best i have ever tasted and the brussel sprouts were amazing. Some past review complaints said that everything had to be ordered alacarte, but i can assure you now that is not true. You no longer have to order ala carte as each steak comes with two sides and i definitely didn't leave hungry. Make sure you save room for the flour-less chocolate cake, also extremely good. We will definitely be back!
Will definitely return!
Food was great! Had amazing time! Will definitely return and recommend!
Our food was excellent. Our service was poor.
We waited over 1 1/2 hours for our dinners. After waiting for 1 hour + , we were served 4 shrimp as a token for our patience. Really? Very disappointing based on dollars spent for a nice dinner out. What was additionally disappointing was that other guests came, ordered, ate appetizers, had dinner and left before we ever got our dinner.
Second time there in two weeks.
I took my girlfriend there for her birthday. We were both so delighted and impressed she took her son, his girlfriend, and me there for HIS birthday. Needless to say, we. are. fans. And we are just looking for reasons to return.
We started our anniversary dinner at the bar. Great whiskey old fashion, great perfect whiskey Manhattan. We enjoyed the French onion soup and beet salad to start. We both ordered filet and a twice baked potato. The 6 oz filet looked miniature! The filets and potatoes were served on a huge, white dinner plate. The potatoes were overcooked, almost burned. We ordered Brussel sprouts as a side and were disappointed by the portion size. The mushrooms we ordered were SO salty we could not eat them. We were there on a Wednesday night, which is 1/2 price bottle of wine night ( for $50 and less bottles). We ordered a bottle of wine and when our bill was presented to us we found that we had been charged more than full price for the bottle! Menu listed the bottle as $32, we were charged $36 when we should have been charged $16. As we both scrutinized our bill, our waitress came to the table to state she realized she had charged us full price (an incorrect full price). Look at your bill carefully! On a bright note, we did receive a free dessert because we were there for our anniversary! Overall, we concluded we will not be returning. Overpriced for what we got. A disappointing 20th anniversary dinner.
Food and drinks were great. The only problem I had was they have a wood burning fireplace they were using as it was really cold outside. All of my cloths and coat smelled like campfire which I don't really care for. That is the reason for the low ambiance score. If you go you may want to ask if they are using the fire place
Good Food, Great Service, Nice Large Fire Place.
The service was great, the food was good, the price was a little on the high side. The fire place was beautiful. The only downside was the food particles on the floor.
