Iron Gate, located near Dupont Circle, stands as one of the district’s oldest continuously operating restaurants and is split between a sumptuous dining room, a wisteria covered patio and a handsomely enclosed carriageway that houses the bar.

Chef Anthony Chittum, a native of Maryland’s Eastern Shore, and his team have revitalized the space with a menu that takes inspiration for the cuisines of Greece, Sicily, Sardinian and Southern Italy, interpreting those traditions and techniques using the finest products and seasonal ingredients of the Mid-Atlantic.

    Our experience was incredible. My fiancée and I went to Iron Gate shortly after we were engaged to celebrate the moment, and Iron Gate was so excited for us. Lemlem was our server and she was fantastic. Very personable, answered our questions about the menu, and even gave us champagne to celebrate! The food was also amazing, fantastic meal with great mezze and excellent entrees. Amazing time at Iron Gate, we will be back for sure!

    Disappointing visit to Iron Gate this time. A group of 5 friends and I went for an early dinner on Sunday. Patio was lovely and we were accommodated with a fan which helped make the temps comfortable. I asked for a taste of one of the roses on the BTG list and wasn't brought one, instead a very stingy pour as my first glass (similarly stiny pour for my second). My friends ordered a bottle of red to share which they enjoyed. The Sommelier was very knowledgeable and helpful with their order. At times too long of a pause in checking on us from our server, though I understood we had taken awhile to decide on food at the beginning of our order. The food was mostly very good as always. Though my swordfish was just ok. Was it supposed to be hot or cold, I don't know. It was in between temperatures and not so great. The mezze salads (both beet and fava bean) were delightful as was the focaccia. Of course I will be back again, and with high hopes.

    I like that they have the la carte option and I should have gone with that - the chef’s menu was just too much food. All delicious 😋 Chef even sent out samples! Outdoor patio was cozy and comfortable with many fans running! Service was excellent.

    My husband and I celebrated our fourth wedding anniversary here and chose to share the tasting menu. The food was delicious and the service was great. This is a good restaurant if you want to have a romantic dinner and a bit of a quieter setting. For those wondering about accessibility, I use a power chair and found the restaurant and the restroom to be accessible . We will definitely come back again .

    We had a wonderful anniversary dinner at Iron Gate. We did the family menu with the wine pairing, which was excellent. We particularly like the oyster mezze and the fava bean mezze. The grilled branzino was delicious, as was the panna cotta dessert.

    Overall, this was a good experience. The only negative is that it seemed as if the air conditioning wasn’t working effectively, and it was a hot evening in DC.
