    Food was good but the service could have been better given the fact that the restaurant was nearly empty. We ran out of water and had no silverware after our salad course; the waitstaff did not see this. No excuse.

    They charge for bread and refills of non-alcoholic drinks like my Arnold Palmer after I specially asked for a “refill” not “another” one. That was $10 extra for accepting bread and a second Arnold Palmer. A kids meat pasta meal with a side of Salmon was $27 and the meat sauce was dried out. So that was ~$15 extra for a side of salmon. $25 extra in a $177 bill for 5 people no appetizers no booze. Didn’t make me want to come back.

    Dine here (Walnut Creek) frequently. Yesterday we had our "regulars:" rigatoni alla vodka and tagliatelle bolognese. The food and drinks were, as they always are, good. The service was poor. Food was dropped off and waiter was never seen again. Never offered us grated cheese. Never asked how our meals were. Never filled water glasses. Never delivered wine ordered with dinner. I had to flag down a bus boy to get a spoon. Our server appeared to be inexperienced and have entirely too many tables (12ish) for even an experienced waiter to handle well. Poor service ruined an otherwise nice lunch. Little things were wrong, too. Like no cocktail menus on the tables. I blame Il Fornaio management for the serving fiasco. There were, at least, 2 big parties going on and it didn't have enough staff to handle its usual modest Sunday lunch crowd. Our waiter had tables both inside and outside. He seemed to spend much more time outside so we could never get his attention. He floundered and I smoldered. There does not appear to be anyone in charge on the floor. The bartender did his best to smooth over the situation, but to my knowledge he is not the manager. I have no idea who the manager is. It wasn't that much fun yesterday. Don't know when, or if, we will be back. Our experiences- with everything but the bar-have been increasingly inconsistent. Food is disappointing about 25% and service about 50% of the time in the last 2 years. It is not that cheap that we want to risk a bad meal, which is why we tend to stick to same dishes.

    We had made 6:30pm reservation and front desk had us wait for about 15 mins for the table. The restaurant was not busy at the moment and there were several available tables. After 15 mins waiting, we were seated. It took a long time before the server could take our order. It was about 45 mins later we finally were able to eat our bread. Food was great though! Service was nah..

    The restaurant was wonderful as expected. They went out of their way to make sure we got a table where our dog would be well cared for and loved and the staff are absolutely fabulous. The only reason I knocked them down on the noises since we were seated outside and there were bazillions of protesters. We kept hearing F this F that and you can imagine who it was against in this area. So anyway, the bottom line is I could have done without the protesters but the rest of the meal was fantastic
