About Il Fornaio - Irvine
Step inside Il Fornaio and take a culinary journey through Italy. Early mornings bring rustic, crisp crusted bread hot from the oven accompanied by the scent of fresh brewed espresso. During lunch and dinner hours, pastas and flavorful sauces simmer while meats and vegetables roast over hot coals. Bottles of wine from small, regional wineries are uncorked to complement the dishes, which have been crafted in the custom of Italy's chefs, bakers and homemakers. Great Birthday Celebration
It was a 16 year old's birthday and we had the entire inside patio to ourselves for dinner. They had my favorite wine, Chateau Montelena, by the glass! Everyone had a great time and the service people were on top of it and great.
We celebrated a family birthday here and sat on the patio. This was a great option and made for a relaxing family time. The service was outstanding and the various entrees delicious.
A special night out
The service is always friendly and efficient. The meals are magnificent, very authentic. We like the monthly regional meals, always a look forward to night. We also like to stop by at the bar for happy hour or a meal at the bar.
Outstanding food and service.
My son and I dined here to celebrate his acceptance into UCLA. The food was delicious the service outstanding and overall a spectacular experience. They made a special day extra special !
Another excellent meal
Thank you so much for an excellent dinner and service. Thanks so much
Always a great spot for fantastic Italian cuisine with a fun and relaxing atmosphere. A little bocci with wine after a great meal, with or without the kids make for a great night out. Perfect for getting a break from the crowded and overpriced NB restaurants!
Always a great lunch
Il Fornaio is walking distance to my work, and I always enjoy eating there...the seabass special was SO delicious! The serve quickly during lunch, so you can get in and out in an hour.
Each year Il Fornaio sponsors a different Italian region each month. We have been to 4-6 in the past and wanted to try Tuscany food this time. The food was excellent and supported by good Tuscan wine. Very worthwhile. We will repeat

Il Fornaio is favorite Italian restaurant
The staff at Il Fornaio always treat everyone like you are part of their famiy. The food is great, the service is great, and the Manager Marcello is the best! All the waiters, and busboys are very helpful, and attentive, and every month there is a different regionale menu. We go there a least once a month, if not more often, and have for over 20 years.
It's like visitin Rome for lunch!!!!
The food is always great and with true italian flavors and style. On this last visit we started with the most amazing Cioppino seafood soup that had me licking the bowl with my bread!! Very consistent and the service is good. Would recommend for business lunch and everyday dinning.
One of my favorites.
Just go and see for yourself. You will not be dissapointed.

A favorite of our family
Great place for lunch or dinner! Service always attentive. Food well prepared and authentic Italian. Coming in for just pizza, a quick bite or a full multi course dinner the staff and service is most welcoming. Our friends loved the specialty Il Fornaio bread and Calamari Fritti. So sad we do not have one in the Palm Springs/La Quinta area. I am sorry I did not get our servers name, but very nice and thank you to the manager, Marcello.
We are regulars and always enjoy Il Fornaio. The food is exceptional and service usually stellar! However, on this last particular visit we were disappointed by our server; was our first time in this server's station. Not very friendly, forgot our to-go order at the end of the dine in meal and didn't apologize in any manner for this. There are more details about this poor service experience (things I wouldn't expect from an Il Fornaio representative!), but I rather not go into it as mentioned previously, service is usually stellar, this was an anomaly. Il Fornaio will still be on my regular rotation of local restaurants my wife and I frequent!
Excellent service and ambiance. Waiter provided a superb service.
Another fabulous regional menu dinner
This month's regional menu featured Liguria and it was delicious. I especially recommend the perfectly cooked mussels with garlic and white wine for a starter. They were so tender and flavorful, some of the best mussels I have tasted. The black cod entree is also not to be missed, a generous portion of succulent white fish, expertly cooked on the grill. And the pasta is always great at Il Fornaio. Service, as usual, was friendly and efficient.

My wife meal reminded her of a dish she had in Rome. Mine was good as well. I just realized I'm not that into rizzoto. Dessert was excellent. We did have to track someone down for drink refills. Our waiter was pretty busy with a larger table and forgot about us. Overall everyone left full with a happy belly.

Came here with a group of 8 people. The atmosphere is very nice and the staff is on point with accommodating. Treat you like family and always very attentive. I would come back here again. Everyone enjoyed their food as did I. One of the best restaurants I've been to.

A great team building place in Irvine. Everything was awesome.
The food is extremely good without being over-the-top pretentious. The wine flight and "Taste of Liguria" (menu changes) were great deals. Our fussier teenagers found things to eat that they liked. It is a bit noisy.

Good option near airport
Meeting friends before catching a plane, this restaurant provided good food and service that worked really well for us. It's becoming an annual tradition and our positive experience means we'll be back next year.
Not able to react to increased activity...
We love eating at Il Fornaio and have visited several of their locations so our experience was likely a fluke. But, that being said we were disappointed. Our server forgot drink orders, served some salads, forgot others etc. The restaurant ran out of minestrone soup-our server notified us 20 minutes later apologizing and stating that they were very busy, much busier than expected with walk in diners. As a party of five with reservations it was disheartening to hear our experience was being diminished due to their inability to handle walk in diners..
Long wait and overpriced
Despite having a reservation, we waited half an hour to be seated, with nowhere to sit while we waited, having been told, "We are overbooked tonight." Then we waited another twenty minutes before our food order was taken, twenty more minutes to get appetizers. The table was very crowded, the noise was deafening, and the dinner was overpriced in terms of food and overall experience. We left without ordering dessert, just too unpleasant.

A very crowded and busy Saturday night dinner. Service was a tad slow but the food did not disappoint. A large menu selection and pricing is fair based on location, food quality and selection. Large wine catalog with selections to satisfy almost all who enjoy Overall, a very good experience except for a slow service probably because each table was filled. Nice part was we weren't rushed to turn the table

Hostess was delightful- but our server was not. Terse and difficult to track down- waited almost 10 mins just to get the drink I ordered! Food was tasty though. Thankfully have had good experience with Il Fornaio previously, otherwise this would've really soured it for us.

My fiance and i went for restaurant week and were surprised by the monthly special menu. We ordered one meal selection from each menu. The pasta was cooked to a perfect el dente and each of our choices was comforting, flavorful, and rich without being heavy. I ordered the veal scalopine and both loved it. The lemon added a wonderful brightness to the dish. We were a bit disappointed in the pancetta-wrapped veal sausage. It was a little over cooked and under seasoned. The affogato was the perfect end to the meal. Great drinks and friendly service, too!
Il Fornaio - Lunch
I went for restaurant week, and sometimes during restaurant week places get hectic and service lacking. This wasn't the case with Il Fornaio. Service was very attentive and prompt, and the food was delicious. Great setting and nice to step away from the office for a quick lunch break.
Fast service with attention to detail
Prompt seating. Excellent wait staff. Immediate delivery of cocktails and some excellent bread to much on. Food was delicious (Minestrone soup, butternut squash ravioli, tube pasta with vodka tomato sauce) Good selection of wine. The table was a bit cramped for two, and the chairs were not too comfortable.
The service was very attentive. Good for a chain.
Our entrees were served quickly and my friend had the mushroom risotto which was fresh and delicious. I had the linguine with fresh fish which was also very good and I had to take half of the portion home as it was filling. The vibe is noisy but perhaps that's OC. We both would go back and plan to visit our location in Del Mar.
I would say that overall the food was a little heavy for my taste, I expected the Kalahari grotto to be lightly battered and crispy. The angioplasty was not very appetizing. I expected a little more as I have been to other I'm Fornaio restaurants which were quite good. Obviously this is just my opinion.
Fabulous Italian but a little noisy
The food is always good at Il Fornaio but the noise level and proximity to kitchen or a serving station can be a little off putting. Try to get a table away from the hustle and bustle and you'll have a wonderful dinner.
Il Fornaio always pleases
We came with a group and were seated in a semi-private table at the back. Service was excellent. Even in our secluded spot, it was loud for a group consisting of older adults (50+0), but we had a memorable time and enjoyed our entrees and desserts.
Amazing dining experience.
The food was amazing, our server was on it, and the overall dining experience was excellent. Menu prices are on point - great value for authentic italian food.

Another wonderful dinner for Festa Regionale. The region was Umbria this month. The soup was very good and the lamb chops were so delicious and perfectly cooked. The wine flight was very enjoyable too!
