Hau Tree Lanai Ratings and Reviews

The ambience is fantastic, the service was excellent, but I felt food had dropped a notch since last visit. Still very good, but less than the knock-your-socks off food from last time. All in all still a very fine restaurant and experience.
Always a Treat
One of our very favorite places in Waikiki for lunch....great food (the best Ahi Sandwich in Hawaii as far as I am concerned)...wonderful variety of eggs benedicts and overall just a wonderful place to enjoy dining while enjoying the beach/oceanfront views. One cannot go wrong dining at Hau Tree Lanai.
Go for the view, not the food
You don't go here for the food (which is mediocre at best), but for the location. Right on the beach in the shadow of Diamond Head, this is simply one of the most beautiful spots in the world to have breakfast.

One of our favorite places! Never a bad time at Hau Tree! Especially with the food...ONOLICIOUS!
Enduring Waikiki Icon
The Hau Tree Lanai is a Waikiki classic! Situated right on the beach, it is a unique experience without a doubt. The service was impeccable and the food was prepared beautifully. I had the curried chicken and vegetables which was delicious. It is difficult not to stop there when you are in Waikiki. Our server was Andy, who has been there many years, and he is the best!
It was very delicious.
The location of the table was also good. We look forward to be able to revisit the next time.
The staff was incredible and the food was great.
We had such a great time for my birthday dinner, we returned a few days later for brunch. At dinner, we enjoyed a beautiful sunset on the beachfront table. Brunch was just as lovely. It is our new favorite place to go when we vacation in Honolulu.
Including me, a family was satisfied very much. I want to revisit it by all means.
Ambience and good food
The atmosphere is one of fine dining with reasonable prices. The view is one of the best in Waikiki. The menu is varied and has some local favorites that both kama'aina and visitors can enjoy. It is a perfect place to take visitors so that they can experience the charm of Hawaii.
Great egg Benedicts as always!

Just not well put together
It has the setting and the backstory to be great but it just is not. The service is not on par with the pricing. It is fairly expensive and the food is ok. It came out and was lukewarm. The service was not good. The waiter just drifted away and did not come back. No one ordered dessert because it got so late just sitting there waiting for his return. The view is gorgeous and the trees and beautiful but it is not enough for me to recommend it to anyone.

We were placed on an extremely tight table from the one next to us. The seating was awkward as a result. The breakfast which is normally good was way below average. It came late, was not hot, and look liked it was just thrown on the plate. No garnishes to be found. Unattractive presentation. So unlike my past experience. Someone didn't show up for work.

We enjoyed an excellent meal here. The restaurant is small, so reservation essential. I love hot food; my entee came piping hot. The ahi, topped with crab and avocado, was succulent and flavorful.
Sunset view is just beautiful. Walk on Kalakaua avenue to Hau Tree Lanai before sunset is also amazing. One of the highlight in Honolulu.

Taro rolls were fabulous! The Yellow curry crab was outstanding! The Pad Thai was delightful. The Royal Hawaiian Dream (Mahi Mahi) was delicious! A great time was had by all!
Fantastic food and location
This is a great restaurant for a special romantic occasion with great views The food was fantastic
Easter sunset dinner
We have dined here dozens of times over the years and are never disappointed . Easter is a appropriate for a sunset dinner. We're tired of noisy buffets and big venues. To be dining alfresco in March is a huge bonus for livingredients in HI. Always order the fresh catch...pricey but delicious. Leave room for the lava cake afterwards. Expect a relaxed dining experience as the service tends to be a little slow for us. Enjoy a cocktail and watch the sun set in the Pacific. Chin chin.
Great Oahu Dining
Consistently excellent and a great getaway from the crowded spots elsewhere around town. The view is hard to beat.

No good service
We had reservation but they didn't keep our table, addition we asked one man who wears blue shirt said us just line up without asking our name of reservation. His service was really bad. Addition, the line was mixed no reservation people and reservation people. That means Open table was meaningless. After 10 minutes ,we could have sheet but it was the farthest to the beach. We thought this restaurant doesn't need open table system. It was good service except a man who wears blue shirt. We never go to there.

A wonderful, beautiful spot to eat great food and a view to die for....I will return and will recommend to my friends.
Fabulous sunset dining
We love going to the Hau Tree Lanai. We take out of town guests for the ambience.
This was a reunion dinner with someone I had not seen in 22 years. The staff made a special evening into a spectacular one. Highly recommend the Hau Tree.
The hau tree lanai has been one of our favorite hideaway places for years. The ambience is second to none. The food is always incredible. My only complaint is the service tends to be very slow, and forgetful. I ordered a second drink, and by the time the waiter told me it was coming, we were already done with lunch. Outside of the slow service, I will always go back.
From staff, food, atmosphere.. All superb! Highly recommend
Delicious food, lovely surroundings, friendly and professional service.
I wanted to bring my relatives for brunch because of the scenic view and food but I was very disappointed in the service. I had a hard time flagging down any waitstaff for a refill on my coffee. They stood around talking to each other instead of scanning the tables to see if any customers wanted anything. The food was good but I might find some place else to go for brunch.
Our favourite restaurant when in Honolulu. Outstanding views to go with an even better dining experience. Service is the best. The Prix-Fixe menu is always so creative.

I have been going there for maybe 50 years, and though there have been some changes, nothing can take away for the beach setting, nothing. For us local folks it is a great to have access to such a fine place. I will admit the prices have gone us and there are more tables in the place, but I understand the have to turn a profit. $5 parking is a bit much. on top of a $20 meal. Heat to see them chase the local folks away.
50th anniversary celebration
Seated underneath a gorgeous spreading tree overlooking the ocean. There were even fireworks. It could not have been a more lovely or romantic evening
My husband and I love dining here. We make a point to dine here every time we come to Honolulu, it never fails to delight us. The seafood lunch was great. Friendly service and efficient. The view is impeccable.
Although Hau Tree Lani has a laid-back, no rush atmosphere, the times we had to wait for drinks to be refilled or to ask for our check was a bit too long. I had to rush out without sampling any dessert...shucks.

We had a marvelous time. The sunset from this restaurant is truly one-of-a-kind.
Fresh fruit "garnish" is a wonderful side dish. The view and atmosphere is fantastic. Best breakfast on Waikiki.
I have had dinner at Hau Tree Lanai at least 20 times over the years. This time was a misery. No parking on property - took me 20 minutes to troll for a place on the street. Parking guy was quick and rude. Food was barely tolerable. Cold fish, very little sauce, everything else very plain. Service was terrific, however, so that can't be faulted.
Sunsets beautiful, great service
The real gem of the restaurant is its location where you can watch the sunset as you sip your MaiTai. The service was very good and it was very evident that they want to make your experience a memorable one. The food was good, not great. The appetizers are very good, but I found the main course to be just okay. Somewhat pricey, but that is Hawaii.
Not Like it used to be!
It is a over five years since we ate at the HauTree beach level restaurant. We had such wonderful memories of that previous occasion. Something has changed! The menu has virtually no feature items that are not replicated at every walk in cafe in Waikiki, the wait between ordering and service was exceptionally prolonged, waiter service unprofessional, table not wiped with remnants of previous diner which we requested to be rewiped, certainly nothing in our lunch experience to warrant the car drive to the Diamond Head Location and required $5. Parking fee. While an evening dinner may be a whole different ambiance our lunch, on the final day of a month long stay in Waikiki was extremely disappointing especially with a special guest involved!
