As I said, the food was nice. The premium beef tongue has always been my favorite and a must-have. The top three dishes including the short rib and other meat are also delicious. HOWEVER, when my friends and I went to the restaurant as a group of ten, one of the stove was not working in my table. The five of us who were sitting on the broken-stove table had to wait for the waitresses to 'fix' (they just turned the stove on and off for five times and told us to wait) while watching our friends devoured the food. It was heartbreaking for us and we were so bored waiting. Also, I think one of the tables burned the food and the smoke was all over the restaurant. Both my eyes and my noses were very uncomfortable. Overall, the food there was pleasant and had reasonable price. I will give it another try in the future cuz' I love Japanese BBQ.

Great experience!!

Excellent experience and food. I went there two nights in a row (Monday and Tuesday). I'm from Argentina and the price for that quality of food is insane!!

Poor choice for groups

Booked for a birthday dinner with 8 people. 2 hour time limit + 1 small grill + 3 non-beef eaters = regretful choice!

Everything was great! Great food, great place for loud crowds, great service. Especially great for birthday gatherings. No extra cost for cake cutting. They even ask if u want the staffs to sing a song for you! Love my last experience here

Overall, it was alright. Not the first time going there. Went there for dinner with my partner. Usually our food and drinks are served in a timely manner, but that night was a bit slow than usual. I'm not sure if they are under staff or something. Despite of this experience, we would still go there in the future.

Our reservation was for 6pm. We arrived early (5:50pm) and our server advised us that we could still order from the Happy Hour Menu (valid until 6pm) for our first round of orders. How generous! Our favrourite dishes were the Toro Beef and Beef Tongue (thick cut). Although we had only two hours for our sitting, we were able to fill up our stomachs well under 90 mins as the food were served quickly. Our bill was about $30 per person (incl. tax and tips), and that included at least 20 dishes of meat and veggies. This is great value considering this is downtown Vancouver. Will be back for sure!

Dined on March 20, 2016

Very disappointed. The server didn't know what she was doing. The food was mediocre at best. Very little authenticity to a real Japanese yakiniku restaurant. The 'fusion' sauces were relatively flavourless. If you're not in Japan better to stick to a Korean BBq restaurant here in Vancouver. Much better flavour and value and price. A tiny bowl of kimchee, barely enough for one was insufficient as a side order. In a Korean restaurant this, along with refills, would accompany the meal. Would definitely not recommend!

Super love the food, ambiance and service here. I like grilling my own food, it's fun and it strikes up conversations. Jason, the manager on duty when we came was really friendly and nice. He accomodated as really well. I always go here with groups and we always order different sets. (i.e., Samurai set for 4, Premium meat lovers for 2) there takoyaki is good too. This is one of my favourite restaurants in town and I highly recommend it to my friends and family. It's better to make reservations though since they're always pretty busy! ;)

Good BBQ place

Dined on January 9, 2016

Good BBQ place. It was very busy and has a long line up usually on busy days. The food is good. Your clothes will smell of BBQ after eating here usually. I found the place a bit pricier, but still fair for what you get. Try to go during Happy Hour to save a bit of money.

Our server was so friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. We ordered the Samurai menu and it was delicious, and such good value with at least 8 kinds of meat, vegetables, three appetizers, a stone bowl rice dish, miso soup, rice, and dessert. Definitely dying to go back!!!

The food is cheap and delicious. This barbecue place has became my favourite since my friend from Kobe recommended it to me. And this time it didn't disappoint me as usual:) However, the ventilation is not very ideal. I smelled like barbecued meat after the meal.

Dined on December 29, 2015

The menu is priced really well. Must try the beef tongue, harami beef - both grilling items. The beef stone rice bowl is great! We also had a tuna sushi on crispy rice that was really good. In my opinion the rice cake should be warmer when served. The sever was really nice and explained things and have recommended items. We had a great time.

Great BBQ Place

Dined on December 26, 2015

Gyu-Kaku is a really nice place for BBQ in Vancouver. Compared to the other BBQ place around, the food, the services, and the price range are all great. This restaurant is a good place for friends get-together, couples, and families. It's fun to do your own BBQs.

This is a really fun place for a group.

Dined on December 25, 2015

The waiter was super helpful and friendly, the food was moderately priced and the experience was lots of fun. There are a lot of choices on the menu. The men in our group shared a meat-lovers packages and I went for the lighter ala-carte scallops. I recommend it for families and groups. It's kid-friendly too.
