Grotto - Houston Ratings and Reviews
April 23 - PROM Dinner
I booked this restaurant for my daughter and her friends for Prom night dinner, reading that it was the #2 restaurant in Houston for Italian dining. I was disappointed to hear that they felt like they were being rushed. Wait staff attempted to remove plates when the diners were still eating and weren't as nice as they could have been. The food was good and prices were very reasonable but I'll hesitate to book another special event here.
Best ITALIAN food in Houston.
Best ITALIAN food in Houston.
Good was great, service was excellent! I couldn't understand what some things on the menu said, but that was part of the fun, and the weight or helped out! I will definitely be going back!
Good food, great value
I love Grotto. The atmosphere is relaxing, the food is excellent. The service is attentive but not overbearing. And what a value- appetizers, dinner, drinks, dessert, coffee and tip for $60 per person!
Lunch was fabulous as always!
Lunch was fabulous, and Rafael our server is a true gem. We will definitely be back. We sat on the patio and the overhead shade that was added is perfect.
Grottos food is consistently good. The wait staff is very attentive and are well seasoned. They make great recommendations as well. Love the bread basket. Always so fresh. I ordered the Sesame salmon-without the sauce and it came as ordered and was fresh and delicious. My husband had the liguine with clams and it was filled with clams and good flavors...Highly rec this restaurant.
Good time for dinner
Fresh hot food, great service. The waiters were on point and took excellent care of us.

Food wa excellent. Best Italian to be found in Houston. Great service. Definatelty going back again!!!!
Always a pleasure
I always have fun and delicious food when dining at Grotto whether for lunch or dinner. This time I had a wonderful chilled spinach, tomato, hearts of palm, avocado, endive salad with grilled chicken. Just the right amount of food. I don't enjoy overeating in the middle of the day (or ever really!) so this was perfect. Recommended by wonderful server Raphael.
Dinner before the Show
We have visited Grotto a few times, and always enjoy our experience. This is a kid friendly place that offers a children's menu. This is a plus. I was able to substitute my Type of Pasta, no problem. My husband ordered a seafood dish he felt wasn't that great. We have always had great tasting food. This will not stop us from returning.
A fantastic place
After booking our hotel, this restaurant showed up as a recommended dining place. After reading reviews, we gave it a try. Turned out to be a better experience than we expected. It was a Sat. night and place was packed. We made reservations and were seated when we arrived (people in front of us without resv were told 45 min wait). The server never made us feel rushed and was very attentive to our needs. The house salad was superior to other places and the server allowed us to split it between the two of us. The calamari was cooked to perfection. For the main dish, my wife chose the white fish w/ crab topping (special of the night) and was pleased with that decision. I had the Red Snapper w/ crab (I think it was called Siciliano). The fish was a little over-cooked and the green beans a little under-cooked, but still great tasting. Their dessert cart boasts a wonderful selection. It was my wife's b-day and server helped us celebrate by bringing a slice of cassata cake (with a sparkler as a candle) and a few of his fellow servers to sing to her. A terrific way to end the night. A huge Thank You to our server (Eddyn) and to all those who supported him during our experience there. We will definitely visit again on our next trip to Houston.
I love the restaurent I go on every trip to housto
But on this trip the service was terrible the waiter forgot things orders etc etc.
Dinner at Grotto
Food was good however, I felt service was rushed!! Check was presented before we had an opportunity to order desert! Server seemed angry when we turned down loyality program!! Since we live out of town we were not interested!!
Grotto is Great!
A friend of mine who lives in the Houston area recommended Grotto. From the moment we walked in, we were taken care of. Alfredo was our waiter and he was so friendly, helpful and just a delight! I had never experienced an antipasti bar and we loved it! I have the veal scaloppini which was delicious and my coworker had one of the pasta dishes which had spinach pasta and she loved it. To top it off, it was half price bottles of wine night and Alfredo helped me pick out the perfect wine Ca'Marcanda Promis 2012! We also couldn't resist sharing one of their delicious desserts! Next time I'm in Houston, I'll definitely go back!
We enjoyed the food, ambiance, and exceptional service. We were not rushed as we hung around to visit with each other. Will definitely return.
Excellent food, good atmosphere, average service
Good menu, and great food. The staff was slow to Revisit the table, and to ask for your order. However, they were helpful and friendly when they did.
Went to Grotto for a Girls Night Out. We dined for hours, and when we looked up from our conversation, we realized the restaurant was empty - we were the last patrons there! Everyone was so polite - not once did they ask us to leave or even indicate to us that the restaurant was closing. We thoroughly enjoyed not only the food but our overall experience at Grotto.
Good First-Time Experience
My expectations were a bit guarded, having had negative experiences at other Landry's restaurants, but Grotto neutralized some of those impressions. We had Linguine Pescatore, Pollo Francese and Veal Kickerillo. They were all well-prepared. Linguine and chicken portions were generous. Portion size for veal was adequate but was noticeably smaller in comparison (probably because it's veal). From hostess to servers, all were personable and attentive. Noise level made conversation difficult. Parking is a challenge as well as navigating through Galleria traffic. The restaurant served complimentary birthday dessert. Will definitely return.
My server was Very friendly and attentive.
My guest was one and half hour late on our lunch reservation. My server was very attentive and understanding . The food was great ( as always ). This is the best restaurant under Landry's flag. I wish all Landry's restaurant could be excellent as Grotto.

We had a lovely meal at the grotto our waiter raphael was exceedingly helpful they very kindly gave us a appetizer of Meatballs since we booked through the JW Marriott my friend had the lasagna which he cleaned the plate of I had the veal with mushrooms and spinach which was very tender and nicely flavored Raphael has just been a wonderful wine. Nicely with our food a very enjoyable experience
We usually do not go out to dinner on Valentine's Day because of the crowds, etc. We decided to go out for a Valentine dinner this year after a play and selected Grotto. We sure were glad that we did! The salad was very authentic and the food was delicious! But, we care as much for service as we do good food. The service was better than we've had in a long time at other restaurants. And, we're talking about a night that was busy. Oh, cannot forget the dessert cart. Really appreciated all the selections and the piece of coconut pie was huge and great! We will certainly consider the Grotto again.

A really great experience. Food was outstanding appetizers through dessert.
GROTTO is such a bargain for the top quality food they serve. The snapper was PERFECT as was the Caesar Salad...Lump Crab meat on top of snapper was a meal by itself...I can't wait to go back.
Surprised at the mediocrity
This used to be one of my favorite Italian spots. The pasta was not too exciting and the service didn't make up for the food. I'm sorry to spout this criticism, but I think on balance, you'd do better going to Carrabba's on Kirby or even the original Mandola's Deli on the east end.
Great outside date night
We ate outside on the patio and were seated right away for a 7:00pm reservation. The service was great and the food was wonderful. love the free cookies for dessert!
Used this location before and will continue to do so.
Saturday night with the wife
We enjoyed the service and recommendations. Had a great meal.
Grottos is the top ones in my list!
Maybe a lot of restaurants in Houston they are better or maybe more upscale, or anything different, but Grottos is one on the top in my list, I am attending Grottos from long time because the food is good, you can perform your plate according your food habits or diet, waiter service is amazing and is located near to my office, I have none complain, zero, because is really a good place to eat, other thing is the terrace is nice to enjoy and drink a good Italian wine. Thanks
Great place for a date night. Staff is excellent and knowledgeable about the menu and wines. Great experience from the first step in the door until we left.
First Time Visit
Enjoyed my first visit to Grotto's. Ambiance was good. Noise levels high, but still able to enjoy conversation of dining party. Salmon was excellent. Wait staff knowledgeable of menu items. Will definitely go back to try other items on the menu.
We were promptly seated in a fabulous location near the fireplace and at the window. This made for a delightfully private conversation in a noisy restaurant due to lack of fabric. Service was spot-on and the food was served at correct temperatures! Wonderful experience.

extraordinary service, very attentive waiter, very good waiter, excellent food, but the lord of the door a little rude
Lunch at the Grotto
Everything was very good; the only caveat is the noise level, which was on the high side. Sometimes I had a hard time hearing my guests...
Food was really good but the service was outstanding. Highly recommend
Grotto is Great!
Consistency is the key to Grotto being great. We have been eating out at the Grotto for the last 10 years and never a bad or even less than great meal, service, and overall experience.
Convenient and Delicious!
The Snapper Siciliano is just over the top delicious! Fresh, delicate, and flavorful! The Farwell salad is delish and enough to share! The veal my husband ordered was tender but nothing to write home about and fettucine was a little dry. The lobster bisque was smooth and small bites of lobster are added to make it the perfect size appetizer. The waiters were attentive and we were seated right away. We were near the pizza preparation area, which meant waiters were constantlu squeezing by, but overall it was an enjoyable dinner.
We love this place and will always eat there when we are in Houston. This was the 1st time we ate on a Friday night and I have to say we felt RUSHED!!
A wonderful evening
We had a wonderful evening of great food, service and ambiance. We had reservations through Open Table; we arrived and were immediately seated and they showed our guest to our table when he arrived. Wait staff was polite and efficient. Love the artwork on the walls and the general "feel" of the restaurant
My husband and I went for the first time Saturday night. I had a Snapper entrée and he had the mixed seafood with Linguini. I really was prepared to love it as a friend had suggested it. The wine, bread and Caesar salad were very good but entrees we had were very uninspired and lacking flavor. The sauce on the snapper was thick and bland. The crab on top was too strong. My husband dish was OK but nothing special or delicious. It was a mediocre meal. I loved the ambience and wish we had had a better food experience. The staff was very helpful and courteous. Not what I expected.
Great with the exception of the waiter not discounting oor bottles of wine. Had to have the chech corrected
