Bad Service and No flavor

Dined on April 9, 2016

We were a small group of people and every single time we had to ask for more soda, water, or mimosas. We had to constantly be asking for a fork because they would take it with the plate. The times that they passed we felt ignored. The variety of food was good, but not worth the price. The seafood had no flavor and for $36 + tax I expect some flavor on my food. No flavor on the crabs, fish or shrimp. For the Asian section there were dumplings and gyoza that tasted bland like dough and it was a disappointment. The ambiance couldn't solve the food, service and value, so overall my rating is poor.

Dined on April 3, 2016

This is such a great spot to catch up with friends. The food is delicious and there is a lot to choose from... It's not too crowded or loud so you can easily engage in conversation with your group. The staff was friendly. The bottomless mimosas was a big PLUS too.

Saturday Brunch HIT!!

Dined on April 2, 2016

My boyfriend and I came here for brunch on a saturday. What a great time we had! The view of the MOCA and the people visiting was enjoyable to watch as we sipped our bottomless mimosas and dined on snow crab and shrimp. Yummy carving station and omelettes. Delightful bite-sized desserts. We enjoyed the brunch and the energy in the place was great! People celebrating and enjoying family and friends. Great food and the mimosas were flowing. I would definitely recommend for couples, or a group of friends!

Buffets can be crowded and food runs out sometimes, but this was not the case at the Grand Cafe. Spacing of the tables from the food was good and food was re-stocked often which was nice. Great selections. I just miss the oysters, maybe they weren't in season.

Grand Cafe @Omni

Dined on March 13, 2016

We were there for Sunday Brunch, after 40 minutes, without asking, the waiter gave us the check and remove our glasses from our table. We have a minor, I indicated my son is 12 years old at check in, but he was being charge for adult. (he is a picky eater, he only eat fresh foods & one slice of prime rib) They seemed want to have our table in a rush, the other tables around us were eating there longer than us, We were the only Asians there, I hope that was not the reason, we were being over charged & rude services at the end. My niece was the one who paid for my birthday, I found out we were over charged after.

Books and Bubbles!

vip
Dined on February 28, 2016

My book club centers around unlimited mimosa brunches (don't judge us!) and saw Grand Cafe on a list online. I've eaten lunch here as I work across the street so I figured the food would be good. We had an 11a reservation and it wasn't too crowded (the crowds started after noon). We were seated promptly and all were impressed with the shrimp and crab station we passed on the way to our table. I don't typically eat shrimp at buffets (lack of cleaning) but this shrimp looked amazing...too all of us! The food was great, from the breakfast items, to the prime rib, to the partially shelled crab claws...and let's not forget the mimosa that kept on coming! We weren't even half way through our book discussion before we decided to come back for next month's meeting! I've been staying at various Omni's for the past couple of years and their customer service is top notch from the hotel to the restaurant!

Everyone but one of the managers was outstanding

Dined on February 21, 2016

Upon arrival to our reservation, my girlfriend and I were not acknowledged by one of the managers in the front. We stood there for a while until I addressed him and he was not very friendly for some reason. We came for mimosas and breakfast and he told us we weren't allowed to have mimosas before 11. It was already 10 so I said umm that's fine sir we can wait.) (Although I didn't understand why we weren't "allowed".) He then took us to our seating which was the absolute first table when you come in. I prefer more secluded areas and it was a beautiful day so I asked if we could sit at the patio/outdoor area... He became a bit frustrated and seemed adamant in the fact that there was no room for us there because of a soon to come large party. That's understandable, so then I asked what seemed to be the most insulting question he must have heard all his life. "Can we sit at the window there?" There was a cute window facing the Moca, perfect for me and my girlfriend to sit and talk but this manager almost fainted!?! He looked as if I asked could we sit on his face, or as if I Said something even more utterly disgusting. He reluctantly sat us at the window and my beautiful girlfriend and myself sat at the table feeling terrible about our experience thus far... We had no idea why we were being treated in such a manner but had several hypothesis we didn't want to assume. After he went away, we were highly uncomfortable until Augustus showed up. He took our orders and said we could have mimosas before 11 no problem. He Even made special ones with pineapple because my lady can't have Oj. Another lady, I want to say here name was Sandra? Kept our cups filled and from then on we had a wonderful time away from our first encounter. But we will never forget how he made us feel when we arrived. Wonderful people all around except for that erratic, frenzied manager.

Sunday Brunch

Dined on February 14, 2016

The Sunday Brunch was chock full of delectable options, I found the selection to be very vast which catered to even the most distinctive palate, I questioned the Champagne and juice used for the Mimosas; the Champagne was a bit too bitter for my taste, and the juice tasted more like a mixed fruit instead of the traditional orange juice, but the food made up for the unpleasant Mimosa. I would recommend the Grand Cafe to all of my family and friends, and whenever I'm on the west coast, I would definitely brunch with you guys again.

We do brunch about twice a month. Read a review on Open Table and the reviews stated they had a seafood station. I was sold. Loved, loved the seafood station. Oysters, crab claws, shrimp, crab legs, smoked salmon and flowing mimosas, what's not to like. Recommending to friends and family and we'll be back.

Hard to find

Dined on January 17, 2016

This restaurant is on the 3rd floor. It took me forever to find this place, all it has in the directions is the street address but this is a large hotel. The seating was OK but I am not sure what the people were talking about with regards to a view. The only thing of a view is a sculpture and some ponds, not bad but certainly not worth going there for. The buffet was excellent though!

Mediocre

Dined on January 1, 2016

Stopped here for breakfast. The chicken sausage was incredibly dry with a tough outer skin. The miso soup station was nice, but other than that the offerings were very generic and bland. The host also cut me off while I was speaking to tell him I had a reservation using Opentable that we were early for. For $26 dollars a person for breakfast far better options are available nearby.

From 7 to 92, Everyone was pleased

Dined on December 27, 2015

The restaurant is very classy, but comfortable. I made the reservations for 17, but 20 of my relatives showed up and the waiters were very accommodating, quickly adding two additional tables. All of the plates, glasses and utensils were spotless. Plates were nicely warmed for the hot food and there was an endless flow of mimosas, water juice and coffee at our table. The food was all delicious. The omelet station master prepared each omelet per your request to perfection. The fried chicken and waffles were delicious, the chicken breasts were especially tender and tasty. The lox, large,tail-on shrimp and crab legs were incredible. The sausage varieties and bacon cooked to perfection were ideal companions to the scrambled eggs, pancakes, french toast, eggs Benedict, toast, muffins, bagels and danish pastries abundantly waiting. There were several types of cheese and sliced meats, as well as fresh green salads and fresh fruit, sweet and wonderful. My favorite was the baked halibut and sauteed brussel sprouts, which I have never liked, but these were scrumptious. There were several petite pastries for desert: pecan and pumpkin pie, various cheese cakes, fruit tarts and chocolate covered strawberries all delicious and all of this for $28 per adult and $10 per child. Valet parking for $7. An unbeatable experience for the food, ambiance, excellent service and friendliness of the other patrons and staff. My family says it is definitely worth coming back for more.

A Pleasant Surprise

Dined on December 19, 2015

This was a Brunch with very dear friends who we see once a year because of the distance between us. I was looking for a location that was about equidistant from each party and downtown LA proved to be the best choice. There was a variety of dietary needs and I really wanted a round table for the Brunch. In short, an excellent Brunch and an excellent value. But what really made it special was the people. All of the service people from the Valet parking attendant to the bus boys and the omelette chef were really outstanding. There are more lavish Brunch deals LA but none with this level of service and top value pricing.

My organization has held it's annual holiday recognition breakfast at this location for the past few years. However, this is the first time we were very disappointed. The reservation was for a party of 15 and our seating consisted of two separated tables. This was not conducive for a group conversation. In the past we've always been seated at the longest table with a good view at the back of the restaurant. The president of the organization was very dissatisfied with the service as well. The waiters were not timely in their service delivery. He asked that we peruse a new location for next years celebration.

Brunch

Dined on December 13, 2015

Their brunch is a buffet with bottomless mimosas or you could order from their menu. Their diversity of options is a delight. I very much enjoyed their eggs benedict, salmon, seasoned potatoes, and the fact that my glass was almost always filled. I did notice the gentleman behind the omelette counter was a bit not friendly. He did not look like he wanted to be working. Gentleman behind the meat carving station on the other hand was just incredible. He greeted everyone walking in or passing him and gave generous portions. I will definitely return soon!

Thanksgiving Brunch

Dined on November 26, 2015

First year enjoying the Brunch at Thanksgiving. The meal was good, the food quality was good. I think the Grand Cafe found close to a good balance on food and price. This was definitely not the most bountiful Thanksgiving buffet, but at the same time the price was not outrageous. I found other buffets that were $75 per person and up and while they looked nice I could not justify spending that kind of money.

Good food!

Dined on November 26, 2015

This is the second year in a row that I've taken my elderly mom to the Thanksgiving Brunch at the Grand Cafe at the Omni hotel. Our new tradition - works for us because I'm vegetarian (omelettes! Yum!) and my mom craves a taste of traditional Thanksgiving sides along with turkey and prime rib. And the selection of desserts works for both of us! The 2015 experience was quite different than the 2014 experience, but each was good, in its way. In 2014, the brunch serving area was limited to the brunch bar area and a carving station. Great selection, and even the simplest things (butter cookies) were of the highest quality. The restaurant itself was not terribly busy, the ambiance was quite and subdued, and the wait staff very friendly and attentive (and I discovered my new favorite tea, Tea Forte). When we came back in 2015 - big changes! the brunch serving area extended into the restaurant, and included a plethora of seafood (good for my mom, not for me!). And the restaurant was much more crowded and noisy, including a very large group that we were seated adjacent to. The wait staff was much more scarce. We were seated near the door to the patio, and it kept being propped open - brrrr. Had to get up and close it a couple of times. The food, however, was excellent, both times. My mom had a slight quibble - in 2015 (unlike 2014) the turkey was in the form of a turkey roll, meaning she couldn't get her favorite dark meat. In general the quality of the food seemed a little less than 2014 - but still above other nearby hotel brunches I've tried. We'll be back for 2016.

I will return the next time in LA, but family I brought there will be returning real soon! What a wonderful reservation...thank you Open Table!

I had a large group of 21 people for brunch. The staff was amazing and kept our mimosas full at all times throughout the entire brunch of over 2 hours. The food was buffet style and it was all amazing, from the delightful fluffy scrambled eggs, to the homemade omelets and so much more. There was a wide variety to choose from. We were all treated so well by the staff and would definitely go back to this great find!

Lunch before matinee

Dined on November 14, 2015

The Grand Cafe is a perfect place to have lunch before a 2:00 matinee at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. It was relaxed with a lovely day in LA, and we enjoyed being at a table by the window so we could see the fountain and reflecting pools, and the passers-by. My husband thought that the French onion soup was good, and we shared a tuna melt sandwich was flavorful and just the right amount for us seniors. I appreciated the choice of having fruit and cottage on the side. Also the service was prompt, and the server was pleasant. We will definitely return.
