The noise level was louder than I had expected but the food was great and definitely worth it.
Visited for Easter Brunch. Offered both lunch and breakfast menu's. Lots of choices on both. Excellent food. Loved the roasted mussels. It was a bit loud but we attributed that to a loud patron behind us. Once they left it was much less boisterous in the dining area. Enjoyed the Peach Bellini's. We will be back.
Great food and service. We were seated close to the TV, which the noise from TV was loud. Otherwise great evening.
Left before we ate
We waited over an hour for food. Our waitress kept telling us it would be a minute. Finally after an hour we just left. The place was not even that busy. We went next door to Ingredient and had our food in 15 mins.
There was a blip this time
We go to Genovese with some regularity. Typically, service, atmosphere and food are outstanding. Not so much this time. Food was still excellent, but it took 10 minutes to get waited on, and then only have I went to reception. This was our first time in the front upstairs room. It was freezing until the waitress turned off the air conditioner. Once things finally got organized things went smoothly, and our waitress was attentive.
We like everything about your restaurant but we also think that the pasta dishes are too small for the price. Bigger portions would be great.

The place they say is was beautiful and the host who sat us let us change where we were going to be sat so that was great! We only saw our server a few times and my girlfriends drink went dry and was never refilled. That was annoying. Overall good experience. I would rather go to longhorn for the prices though. I could have gotten a large steak for the price I paid for a small pasta dish.

Brunch- Nothing unique, but the food was good. First cup of coffee luke warm, second was hot.
The food, atmosphere, and service were all wonderful! The only issue was that the heat wasn't working so it was very chilly, however, I know things like this happen. I will go back and I will recommend this restaurant to others.
Great homemade pasta
We had a nice family dinner on Valentine's Day weekend - the restaurant was busy but it didn't affect the quality of the food or service. We all had dishes with pasta made by Genovese - great choice if you go to this restaurant. We also had the house salad, which was a little bland - just mixed greens, and the meat & cheese plate for an appetizer. For the main course, the small portion was fine for us since we had salads and an appetizer.
Not sure what other reviewers see in this place.
Was looking for a restaurant in Lawrence to get something to eat before going to a concert. Based on the comments about the pasta and steak, we decided to give Genovese a try. Arrived early for the reservation but was seated immediately. This unfortunately was the only thing that went well the rest of the evening. Waited for the server and when she finally arrived, we ordered the meal along with an appetizer and drinks. Fifteen minutes later, the appetizer arrived. The drinks arrived after the appetizer was done. Another fifteen to twenty minutes passed and the food showed up. The asparagus and wild mushroom ravioli was bland and had no real flavor beyond the over salted butter sauce that it was served with. There was also the addition of a bay leaf in the bowl buried under the ravioli and sauce but maybe that was a effort to add flavor to an otherwise bland forgettable and definitely not home made dish. The steak was ordered medium rare and came out underdone in spite of the fact that the side that was visible was charred to a black crisp. The server offered to have the cook prepare another one but given how long it took for the first one to come out, I passed. Maybe it was an off night but based on this one time, we won't be coming back and would not recommend it to others.
Just the ABSOLUTE best Italian food in KC area
Just the ABSOLUTE best Italian food in KC area..vegetarian friendly...its a delight to find such a top class place.
The service was pretty slow, but the homemade pasta is delicious.
Fabulous Pasta dishes
The pasta dishes here are like the ones you would get in Italy. The best penne with bolognese sauce in the Kansas City area. The salads are very fresh and lightly dressed. One of our favorite restaurants in Lawrence. Wish this restaurant could find a better layout. The front window seating is always cold and the upstairs area facing the street was freezing cold. Just a strange layout for a restaurant with the kitchen taking up most of the first floor.

Great food, great chef, excellent wait staff!
Outstanding authentic northern italian food with a local farm to table flair! We will be back!

I had heard many good things about this restaurant. I thought the food was just fair and our waitress was really slow and didn't pay attention to our table. It was very disappointing. There are a lot better restaurants in Lawrence, KS that I would go next time.

I have been to Genovese twice in last 3 months. Food and service were great both times.
The open table ap was fantastic and we were seated as soon as we arrived. However, because of where we were seated we could see the kitchen prep area and we were disappointed to see that our food (waffles and potatoes) was coming from frozen packages. Unfortunately, giving them a try and hoping for the best, we were served under toasted waffles. Most of the food was served Luke warm. The service and ambiance were wonderful though!
Was Better Before
I have been here numerous times and had the grilled mussels and the arugula salad. I brought some one here from DC and told her it was amazing. Our server was great but way overworked. The poor little mussels should have had at least another year on the mussel farrm. The arugula salad was a very poor imitation of what I have had previously. So sorry for this review, but even sorrier that your quality was so much worse. Maybe it was because we came on a Saturday evening this time and not during the week. Though it would seem there would be the goal to SHINE on a Saturday.
Great Experience Every Time
We stop in Lawrence in our annual trek from Minnesota to Texas. For the third year in a row we have eaten at Genovese and had a great meal. We really like the upstair balcony seating. The food is great and the service very good.
Swing and a Miss
We have been many times. Tried some new dishes off our regular fare. We did not care for them. Linguini and meatballs, the meatballs were tasteless. Our server said it was a new chef in the kitchen. We just didn't enjoy the dishes this time. We will try again, have had good meals normally at this place.

Service was great, food was delicious! Highly recommend the Spinach and fresh ricotta ravioli as well as the fire roasted vegetables.
The house made pasta is fabulous. My husband had the ravioli - asparagus and cheese. Pasta melt in the mouth. Our guest also had a pasta dish with sausage - excellent. I had the gnocchi with pork ragu - very good. All of us would order our entrees again. We started with the grilled octopus and arugula salad. Very tasty dressing and combination. Would definitely eat at this restaurant again.
Dinner was fresh and vibrant! Service excellent. Flavor town! A must experience.
Great homemade pasta
Our group of 8 was very pleased with the food, wine, and service. Some of us had been there before, but others had not. I love the asparagus and mushroom ravioli; I can't seem to order anything else! It's so fresh, and I am always looking for pasta dishes that aren't covered in a heavy cream/alfredo-type sauce. We will be back!
Good food and great service
The food was delishious and our service was outstanding. The wine list is extremely long and honestly a little overhwelming. We got the $20 bottle of Pinot Nior and it was really tasty. Pasta was homemade. The only thing is the portion sizes were quite small and it did leave me feeling a little hungry. Not the smallest portions I've ever experienced but still on the small side.
Second Time Back
We came from a nearby city to dine here again. We like the menu and the specials. The staff is pleasant and the service is quick. The food is always great.

Breakfast food was decent, but nothing to brag about. I'm guessing their Italian food is better.
Food and drinks were amazing! The cucumber martini and pomegranate martini was great! The deboned 1/2 chicken was spectacular! Also the lobster & crab ravioli was also amazing. Everything was seasoned perfectly and the service was great! Seating upstairs is perfect and not to loud
Wonderful Food and Celebration
My gal and I celebrated New Year's at Genovese. We have eaten there a number of times, so we expected a good meal. However, the chef stepped things up a notch for the festivities and produced a meal that was incredibly delicious and savory. The meal was enhanced by the quality of service that was well paced and set the stage for a relaxed and romantic meal. The only negative for the evening was that the noise levels at times were distracting.
This is one of our favorite places in town. The salads are great. We love the pizzas. The service is always friendly. sadly I ordered a pork chop again and was reminded that I had ordered it before it was terrible the time before. I will go again but will order the things I know to be great.

Had a great waiter. brought our wine fast, and the check when we were ready- and split it 3 ways. Also tried the mussels- they were fantastic.
We looked for a place to celebrate two family birthdays. Genovese was a very nice place for just that. The food was good and the service was equally good. It is a bit loud at times, but we didn't care since we were celebrating birthdays. Also, the table we sat at was not as clean as I would have wanted . . . stuff on the floor mostly. All in all, we enjoyed our time at Genovese and I recommend that you give it a try if you're in Lawrence, KS.
This is authentic italian food. A hot skillet of mussels was at nearby tables so we started with the same. Then we each had a different type of pasta and loved all of them. Service started a little slow, but the wait was worth it.
My wife and I have been to Genovese a number of times, and have been very pleased with the atmosphere, service, and quality of food. This is one of our few go-to spots in town. When Lawrence Restaurant Week rolled around, we thought this would be a great opportunity to really see Genovese at its best. We were both disappointed. There was a 3 course special for restaurant week, which we both ordered from, along with the paired wine flight. All 3 courses tasted bland and pre-prepared. The paired wine flight tasted flat and low quality in general. In hindsight, we should've gone elsewhere. The meal wasn't poor, but was certainly uninspired and not what I expected for our $100 combined tab.
LFK Restaurant Week
We did not end up needing our reservation for a Tuesday night during restaurant week. We arrived early and they sat us immediately. We basically had our choice of the place. We sat on the upper balcony and really enjoyed it. The weather was nice and they never used the middle of the 3 outside tables so we felt like we had more privacy. The food was delicious!!! My boyfriend and I ordered different items (except we got the same chocolate dessert) so we were able to try more things. He had beer and I choose the wine pairing. The drinks seemed to take awhile from the bar even though the place was mostly empty. Other than that, our overall date night experience was very enjoyable. (Serious compliments to the chef and cooks. IT WAS DELICIOUS!!!)
