Fujiyama Japanese Steak House & Bar - Olympia Ratings and Reviews
Tasty but expensive
The food and sevice were excellent, but the Japanese restaurants we're used to serve larger portions at a much lower price. We're used to having ice cream come with the meal. And we're used to being able to order sushi as an appetizer.
Not bad, not particularly impressive
Pretty much follows the template of similar Japanese steakhouses in other cities. Some clever tricks, ok (albeit dated) ambiance and slightly above meh food. Probably worth a visit if the concept is new to you or you're going with a group. But there are other local places with better food for less money.
Bring ID for birthday guest of honor
My son turned 12 and chose Fujiyama for his special meal. It's an expensive place, so I had hoped that he would take advantage of the free birthday meal. It wouldn't have been something he would have ordered, and I would have helped him with it, exchanging plates or w/e. BUT.. they require ID, and of course he doesn't carry any nor do we carry his birth certificate around. Apart from that, Delicious Food served in an Entertaining Atmosphere!
We were a party of four and we sat last at the table. Already 6 people were seated and we found ourselves taking the last two seats on the hibachi table. The other two members from our party had to sit on the extra temporary table joining the two hibachi tables. Very awkward. Those two in our party did not get the full experience, and next time we will not accept to sit that way. The food is great and the show is always fun. But, please do not use this extra table to sit small parties. This table should only be used for a single party of more than 8.
While we understand it was Valentines Da ...
While we understand it was Valentines Day and expected it to be crowded we didn't realize that even with a reservation , we had to wait 45 minutes before being seated. However, once that happened the evening was perfect!
I had never been to Fujiyama, but heard so many great reviews. Definitely glad we tried it and will absolutely come back :) Totally worth what you'll pay, that's for sure. Everything was incredible: food, service, entertainment...
The chef was incredible and put on an amazing show for all of us. The food was done perfect and the open dining arrangement allows you to socialize with other diners. Top notch A++
Could have been better
I love the food. However, the waitress got our meals wrong and the cook had to keep asking for more meat. The cook also kept forgetting who ordered what. The cheese cake was obvious frozen store bought instead of bakery. Not as impressed as I thought I would be.
always the best food ever! I have been here before and I always come back! prices are on the medium-high, but the entertainment is great!
The food is always great and 99% of the time, you can't finish it. The cooks always make the experience a hood one and never a dull moment during dinner. It's a little pricey, but we'll worth the money. Good for special occasions and going aways.
Staff was friendly. Cook at table amusing and informative. Food tasty.
good food, long wait
Very good food and service. Do not go here if you are in a hurry. They had one chef rotating between 3 tables so the wait was a little long. The food and chef were both great.
Always a good experience and the food is great, service was excellent, our chef did a good job
Great for groups and kids
we took a group of 10 for a birthday celebration around 9pm on a Friday night. 6 adults and 4 kids were in our party. The ambiance left something to be desired. Would suggest making the atmosphere feel like you stepped into a Japanese garden or something nice. Felt like it's time for a re-model. We were seated in a decent time, but it seemed like forever before someone came to take our drink order. Then we had to wait again before our meal orders were taken. Took a long time for drink refills. The food from the Hibachi was good. Saving grace was our excellent Hibachi chef. He's the best we'd ever had. He didn't speak much, but he engaged us with tricks galore and was very entertaining. We've been to Benihanas and other similar venues and he topped them all. The steak was a little tough. Everything else he cooked had excellent flavor and texture. We ordered a few things that came directly from the kitchen. One dish was over salted and another (fried calamari) was a little too fishy tasting. dissapponted that there was no desert included. Usually you get a green tea sorbet or a small scoop of icecream at the end of the meal, but we didn't. at this place. Overall we were entertained. We would probably go back but it wouldn't be our first choice.
great food! over priced..
spendy for food portions... great food though! Entertaining! Have to wait your turn... patience is needed..
Dinner Cooked Well--But What About the Show?
We have had inconsistent cooking by chefs--this time, every bite was delicious (last time was overlooked and under seasoned). Each time I come, however, I am reminded that I am also paying for the 'show'--being entertained while my food is prepared at my table. This doesn't happen consistently. It is clear these chefs do multiple shows every night and are interacting with patrons on a pretty superficial level. Our chef had low energy, poor eye contact, and just didn't connect to our table to give us the show we are expecting.
We had a great time. Ray, our hibachi grill master was excellent. The server, not so much. We had to ask for drink refills. i guess he forgot one member in our party of 3, because he never did refill my drink. We went on a Thursday evening, so it wasn't overly packed. Besides the drink issue, great experience. Food was amazing. I never use the ginger sauce at these types of places. I don't like the taste, but I couldn't get enough of the ginger sauce!!
Not for a Birthday Boy
In advance, with my reservation, I told them it was my grandson's 16th birthday and could they seat us front and center. They didn't and then made us wait to get that seating, but no guarantees. They were quite uncooperative about it. We gave up and sat where we could. They never did anything re. his birthday even though other patrons at the table were letting them know too.
Student Group lunch
Overall, our experience was a good one for our middle school students lunch. Service was excellent and the kids enjoyed the chefs and food.
Great food at a respectable price
The chefs all seem to be experts in their trade. The show was great, and our chef was really good with children. Expect to pay about $30 or so a plate plus drinks. If you don't order the chicken-fried rice, you're going to have a bad time. I ordered the steak and scallops, my wife, the steak and shrimp. They were cooked to perfection. The wait staff were professional but a little slow on refills and they didn't seem very happy to be there. I would strongly encourage anyone to reserve a table if you don't like waiting. We did and we were very happy about it. Overall I would strongly recommend this place to anyone with the clause that you need to be ready for wait staff that are a little slow.
Wonderful food, good service.
Took a group of 10 people here after my college graduation. We had reservations for 6pm and were seated promptly. The service was good and we had a fun experience with our chef. Food was great. Will visit again!
So Delicious Surf and Turf
Husband and I enjoyed the surf and turf dinner, the shrimp and crab roll appetizer , and strawberry margarita. The food was spiced and cooked to our liking. We, also, enjoyed the company of the family that sat next to us and Robert who cooked our food and entertained us. Elissa did a fine job serving us.
The food was great and the server was very attentive to our needs. This is a great place to take your "someone special" for a romantic dinner without overdoing the romantic part. We were able to "share the moment" and still interact with others around us.
Overall good experience. One noteworthy comment: felt the dining experience was too rushed! the courses came too fast even with 8 people
Fun, family friendly dining experience.
Food was fresh and our steak was cooked exactly how we wanted. Our 7 year old was very entertained by the chef/cook at the table. He laughed and really enjoyed the experience. You get a lot of food for a reasonable price. I would highly recommend this place for family's.
Fun dining experience
Fujiyama is a popular choice with my kids for birthday meals. The food is always tasty, but the real draw is the entertaining chefs who cook the meal right in front of the diners.
We normally have great experiences here, but we took a family for a friends birthday that had never been before and we were so excited. The food was great and the people were nice but our chef was disappointing.. in the past we have had really fun chefs that did lots of fun things ( pretend to squirt water on people, throw pieces of chicken in our mouths, train whistles..) and were funny. Our chef did just the minimal amount of "extra" stuff and seemed very uninterested. That was disappointing because we had built it up to our friends... other than that it was a good night.
fun and yummy
We had a blast and the food was very good! Chef Robert was AWESOME! I would eat here again for sure, especially if we could get chef Robert again. our food was perfect and he kept us entertained a laughing the whole time. Our server was attentive and sweet. I always had a refill before my glass was empty
Keep coming back
Me, my friends, and family always come here for special occasions.
I decided to take my wife to fujiyamas for valentines day dinner. It was a first time experience and overall it was a great one . There was a little bit of a wait to get in but was worth it . Are server was very nice and helpful. the chef was very kind funny and entertaining and the food was excellent I would reccomend fujiyamas to friends and family for a great place to eat and a great experience.
We went for lunch on Valentine's Day and had a great time with some friends. The food was great.
ehhh...Fun Experience but not great food/service
The title of the review pretty much says it all. Lunch prices are worth the experience, maybe, but not worth the cost of dinner purchases. We waited for 20 min for menus and then another 30 min for the chef to come out - and it was not busy AND we had a reservation. Staff seemed generally lost and not very professional.
We received poor service when we ate at Fujiyama. It took over an hour from the time we were seated to when the chef arrived at our table to begin preparing our food. Also, several people at the table ordered frozen drinks and by the time they were served they looked like they had been sitting at the bar for about 20 minutes. The drinks were separating (ice and drink mixture), the glasses were covered with condensation, and the whipped topping had melted and dissolved into the drink. I couldn't believe that they actually still served them. The only positive part of the evening was the chef who prepared our meal. He was friendly and entertaining.
Was rushed by staff.
Over all the food was good, the chief show was ok. Restaurant was crowded, very close packed around the table. Was rushed by staff to turn over the table, were brining boxes before my mother and wife were finished eating.
Great hibachi experience. a special treat.
We go to fujiyamas once every few months as a special date night when we can afford it. The prices are higher than a lower income guy like myself can afford on a regular basis but it is worth every penny. Have never been let down.
We had a great time! We went with a group of people (11) for my husband's birthday and the experience was amazing. Our chef (Robert) was so funny and kept all of entertained the entire time. The food was delicious! I am so glad we found this place. We will definitely be back.
Our server Miguel was Fantastic! Our cook Rich was terrible! He started cooking our food before we even received our appetizers. He rushed through our meal without much of a show. Not a very well spent 200.00!!!
We went to lunch here to celebrate a birthday. 2 adults and 4 children and we had a wonderful time the staff was friendly and welcoming. The food was great! We ate around 2pm and not a single one of us felt hungry till 8pm we will definitely be back for more in the future!
Awesome as always! Love to eat there. Great service and our reservation is always on time.
Christmas Eve dinner
We've been in on Christmas eve before and was great. This year was very rushed. Felt like they wanted to get us in and out quickly. I get that working on Christmas eve is not the best but providing good, consistent service is still important. We had to wait 15 mins before ordering anything while they finished up with other customers. Once we got service we were asked to order our drinks, appitizers, and dinner at once. We got our drinks quickly and were immediately served our soup and salad. We weren't even half way, done when we got our appitizers. We weren't half way done and the chef was cooking our dinner. Food was good but it was obvious the cook didn't want to be there. He quickly cooked our meal, cleaned up and left. We weren't half way done eating and our cook walked out in street clothes and went to sit with others in the bar. As soon as our plates were clean but almost before we put our forks down our plates were whisked away. Like I said working on Christmas eve is no fun but as a customer I expected to have a relaxing dinner with my kids. Not the case this year.
