Fior D'Italia Ratings and Reviews
Nice back story and the waiter was friendly, but..
the food was a little meh. Nice location - walking distance to Bimbo's 365 club. Not crowded. Able to take our time eating and chat... weren't rushed at any time
Food was $$$$ for what you got.
Chicken. How is a chicken breast $25? It came with 3 over cooked potato slices???? My lady had the steak. I will give some props to the steak...that was pretty good. With the segment of food I tasted and the prices I saw on the menu I won't be turning back. Gimme a break. Not worth it.

Food was absolutely delicious and the live jazz band added to a really wonderful meal. Freshly made pasta was particularly good!
Four D'italia was recommended to us by my dentist in KnoxvilleTN. We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience. This small authentic Italian restaurant is truly a treat. Food was excellent! There was even a small jazz band entertaining which was very special to us. Within a couple of blocks to where we stayed so it was an easy walk to and from

The food was wonderful, however the place really needs a coat of paint and some TLC.
A little ho hum
Chose this restaurant because I was looking for a classic North Beach restaurant to take some out of town visitors. It was really just okay. The service was very attentive, but the food was pretty uninspired and frankly a bit dull.
Oldest does not mean the best
We chose this restaurant since it is the oldest Italian restaurant in the country. It is within walking distance of the Wharf, China Town, Union Square, etc. It has a nice atmosphere and decent service. The menu is small. The food was a bit of a disappointment. The tomato sauce was creamy. The bread was warm, but with a very hard shell. There are many Italian restaurants in the area with better food, but you can say you went to the oldest in the country!
Visiting SF from NY - celebrating wedding anniversary. Was the perfect spot for our quiet celebration. Food was wonderful!
Crazy night at Fior!
I took a friend there this past Saturday night. The place was unbelievably busy - somewhat unusual for Fior. Most of the folks were dressed in 20's garb and were attending the Art Deco event at Bimbo's. As a result, the place was more hectic than usual and the wait staff a little rattled. Suggest you check before you go to ensure they aren't having a big party - especially if you are trying to have a restful and/or romantic dinner.
Delicious food, romantic environment.
Lovely hidden restaurant in the heart of North Beach.

As usual, the food and service were excellent. We are never disappointed.
fun early dinner
Overall, we had a very good experience here. Our waiter was great, so personable. The food was very good. There were a couple of large parties at the same time and that was a bit challenging for our server, but the manager jumped right in to assist. Overall, we were pleased. There were a few little glitches, but nothing serious. We would dine there again.
Our entire experience was great. The food was spot on, some of the best Italian fare I have had outside Italy. It was a totally enjoyable experience.
Ain't What It Used to Be!!
We'd been to the Fior many, many times in its former location. (over many, many years). This was the first time at the Mason Street location. What a difference - in a negative sense! Our group all felt the food quality was less than the "old days" and was very overpriced (maybe reflecting the rent). $36 for a few pieces of very average veal was typical of the menu. We'll try many of the other Italian restaurant in the North Beach Area before we go back to the Fior -- just take a look at Tripadvisor for many of the options.

This place was just what my husband and I wanted; classic, authentic, Italian. The ambiance was perfect, classic north beach store front on a quiet street, pre-war architecture, white tablecloth. My husband ordered the New York steak and it was great!
The food was very nicely prepared and tasty!
Great food, energetic but sophisticated ambiance in a great neighborhood location. Full bar, but the wine list provided all that was needed. Good for a date night or family gathering, either one.

The host (Lalo) and our server (Gilberto) were wonderful. They even took the kids into the kitchen for gelato... Drinks, food and wine were excellent - old school Italian with newness including creative salads and gluten free pasta options as well. We are San Francisco locals and we will go back again and again

This was a wonderful place to have dinner for our 10 year anniversary. The food was amazing and everyone from the moment we walked in to the moment we left was attentive to our needs.
We dined on the Sunday of a three-day Valentine's weekend. The food and service were mostly excellent (although we were offered only a single piece of bread before dinner). However, the restaurant was out of gelato and sorbet for dessert. A small thing, but it prevented the evening from being perfect. Nonetheless, the food was so good that we will return.
I was thrilled to discover that the restaurant had availability on Valentine's Day, and it was a fantastic spot. The menu was reasonably priced, and the servers were above average. The food itself provided for an excellent meal. You may find better-tasting food elsewhere, but I know that I had a really good meal here.

Excellent service. From the moment we walked through the door the staff was very attentive. Great, entertaining humor from the host. Felt like my own family was running the establishment. Very charming little place.
The food is reliably very good to memorable. The wait staff is efficient, the ambiance is perfectly "old North Beach."

Great neighborhood restaurant. Always love the veal and the spaghetti and meatballs with red sauce and the fresh bread is to die for! Friendly waiters, great service.
Best pasta ever
Fior has the best pasta and sauce I have ever had, really; and I am not a twenty-something. The service was great while the restaurant was quiet so I cannot comment on a busy night. Bar staff and wait staff were friendly and attentive. Wine list had some affordable US wines as well as a wide range of Italian. A private room or two can be used for groups and some nights there is music eg Wednesday.

The Mel Sharoe jazz group is fantastic. So much fun to sit and listen to them and their talent. The food is okay, nothing very special, but worth a visit on jazz night.

Quiet & Romantic
We went on a Monday night and had excellent service, and mostly excellent food. The only item that wasn't great was a chicken with ham & fontina cheese, which was tough and overly salty.
The Oldest Italian Restaurant in America
this came as a shock but what a distinction. The food was very good, attentive service, my party of 5 all enjoyed their meals. worth a trip to North North Beach,
A continued San Francisco treat
Good food and service in a quiet environment. You can always depend upon Il Fior delivering both at good vakue.
Time to get off your Laurels and Cook
Never going back here. Never recommending it again. The fact that it is the oldest restaurant in SF is not enough to make up for the subpar food and the subpar service.

Oldest Italian restaurant in the u.s.a. ! Nuff said! Thank you chef!
Disappointed evening, below their standards
Having eaten at this and the older locations many times we were disappointed in the quality of both food and service. A single piece of burnt bread was provided setting the tone, cold burnt and hard! My seafood combination pasta dish contained two pawns, one scallop cut in half, a few other items, the pasta was sticky, sauce was cold, I think that was due to the very cold room temperature. As a landmark restaurant they need to clean their act up

We have been coming to Fior for many many years and stayed with it when they moved. But the satisfaction level has fallen to the point we will scratch Fior from the favorites list. Our special reservation requests made far in advance were ignored and explained away with a shrug. The food was just average and they were out of veal piccata and scallopini because they "had been busy". Sorry...the truth hurts.
Day after Christmas
Great place for lunch after Christmas. Restaurant to self for 45 minutes, then a couple shows, and a third couple much later. Good for a quiet gathering after a busy holiday. Was there a year ago Christmas day. Very hectic. Day after Christmas is more enjoyable, but restaurant did deplete certain foods the day before.
