El Chorro Ratings and Reviews
Always love your lamb chops.
Always love your lamb chops.
Love to share w/ out of town guests!
Since moving to the valley- this has been one of my favorite restaurants. I have never had a bad meal & the staff has always been friendly. This trip though i was a bit unimpressed by one of the bartenders - we were sitting at the bar waiting for our friends to join us. He was not friendly & acted like he was put out that we were just their to wait & not to dine at the bar. That was the only negative of the evening as the rest of our service was great! Nate- our waiter was perfect! My guests were impressed by the food & place - very good experience for them- thank you! I had told them this was one of the places I loved to share!
Fantastic place to visit
I took my girlfriend to El Chorro for her birthday and everything about our visit was fantastic - the ambiance, service, food, etc. When the weather is nice I would highly recommend the patio seating area. Facing south from the patio area you are met with a great view of Camelback mountain, and if you time your visit right the light from the setting sun off the mountain is nice treat. The entire staff was very friendly and seemed to be genuinely concerned that our dining experience was enjoyable. Ron was an excellent waiter that provided great service and recommendations for food selection. The Catch of the Day (swordfish) was excellent, as well as the roasted chicken (delicious mashed potatoes!). Overall, a fantastic place to visit. I've been told that the Sunday brunch is very good, and so we'll definitely try that soon.

One of pur favorites for special occasions and we are never disappointed..
Our waiter Chris was outstanding. Manager was wonderful as well. We've dined at El Chorro for many years, LOVE it........
have been going here for years
We drive from Queen Creek to dine here. The staff is top notch, and the food always excellent . We love sitting outside and enjoying the ambiance. Try the Bloody Mary! The sticky buns are always a favorite too!
I had the biscuits and gravy it came with 1 biscuit and no gravy had to order the gravy twice to get enough to cover the biscuit !
Classic Arizona restaurant
Classic Arizona place we have visited since the late 1970's. I would love to go more often, but the new ownership in 2009 increased prices to the level it is hard to justify. We used to love the blackened halibut as well as the Chateaubriand for 2 but now the Chateaubriand is $130.
Went her for dinner. Sat outside on the patio, so amazing! Great atmosphere, great service, great food. Love this place!!

old stand by still has it
We have been going to El Chorro for twenty some years and have always loved it. We stopped going a few years ago after the new owners bought it and changed the menu and did the re-model cause the food just was not as good. We gave it another try this time and it was unanimous we all had a great meal! We had to tweak the menu a little, but we were happy.
Very disappointed in choices and quality of food.
This much touted restaurant may have sticky buns, and an outside atmosphere; but there isn't anything on the menu choices to distinguish it from the chain breakfast restaurants, like Butterfields. In fact, Butterfields has an extensive menu, and much better service.
They've completed the renovation outside and with all the plants and flowers it was great. We've gone there for 40 years and they used to make wonderful Keoke coffees but not so good this time.

A friend and I went to have dinner on Saturday evening and could not have had a more relaxed and pleasant time at El Charro! The food was delicious---the chef certainly knows how to make fish delectable! I have gone to this restaurant for 38 years. It has never disappointed me. The atmosphere is outstanding -----beautiful flowers, beautiful setting!
Still a lovely place for Sunday brunch...
I returned to the Scottsdale area to visit after about a 20 year absence and, oh my, how it's changed. What used to be just desert space and a few resorts heading out Scottsdale Rd, is now very populated, both commercially and residentially. But what hasn't changed is the delicious food and gorgeous setting at El Chorro. I understand it went through a period during my time away when it closed and was then reopened and renovated. It looked as beautiful as I remembered and the service was still impeccable. And those sticky buns...yummo! I had the Eggs Benedict and my fiancé had their breakfast plate with eggs, bacon, and a side of sausage. All were fabulous! I'd highly recommend a visit to El Chorro and, if it's not too hot, ask to sit on the patio!
Great place for brunch
This is a wonderful place to go for Sunday brunch!! With friends or family! I have never been here for dinner , but the patio so wonderful and food good! I highly recommend !!
Great for outdoor brunch!
Our server was great! The whole serving team was very attentive, warm and efficient. We had a party of six, and were served quickly without feeling rushed. Make sure you sit on the patio! They have great umbrellas that keep you in the shade, and heaters for the cold summer afternoons! Great fresh ingredients! Will definitely be returning!
I've been to El Chorro several times for brunch and it has always been wonderful. This Sunday's brunch with family from out of town was so disappointing. Our waiter was snarky to the point of being rude. My husband wanted jalapenos in this omelette and the waiter refused, stating they had jalapenos but not for that particular omelette. The server continued to be rude and snippy the entire meal. I had the beet salad, which I've had before but it's been changed. It was 4 beets on a plate with a bit of lettuce and goat cheese on top. Definitely not a salad. This was such a disappointment that I don't plan on eating at El Chorro again.
The sticky buns and atmosphere were the highlights of this place. Both were great. The service and food (which seemed like banquet type food) just didn't do it for us. Seemed overpriced for what you received. I would stick to a salad and sticky buns if I came back.
I was impressed
Took my sister Emily, who is a local to El Chorro, upon her recommendation as it is an icon in the folklore of the industry of doing just about everything right. Sure enough they did. The next night I took the CEO, of a restaurant in the Pocono Mountains in PA, and it was just as good. Long story short - consistency in excellence for at least those two experiences makes it easy to know I'll be back next time in town. Cheers. Trip

Gorgeous location, excellent service snd amazing food.
We had Easter Brunch here for the second year in a row and find the setting to be beautiful and inviting. The food is very good ( above average) but not Great for the price charged. The service was down this year, having to wait for long periods to get water, coffee etc. and when the water guys did come around they splashed the water all over and sometime got you wet. (not OK) I heard more than one person complain to the chef at the carving station for not having gravy for the Turkey or mashed potatoes. Overall the Ambiance saved the day.
Wonderful easter celebration !!
We really enjoyed the meal and special time with our guests from out of state. Buffet was wonderful.
Excellent service even though a very busy Easter Sunday brunch crowd.
We love this place!
We love to eat here. Went for Easter Brunch, as did everyone else. They were a bit understaffed; however the food was good. Desserts just fair.
Disappointed for Easter Brunch
We have brunched all over the valley and eaten at El Chorro before. This Easter Brunch was very lack-luster and left a lot to be desired. Have been to many buffet brunches previously, this price point should have offered a lot more. We were a part of 5 and all disappointed by over-cooked meats, burnt bread with the benedicts and soggy salads. I would not recommend this experience to anyone.
Excellent food, service, menu, ambiance, and what a setting. The views of Camelback and Mummy Mountains are superb.
I recommend the following food changes to your buffet.1.The eggs Benedict muffin was very difficult to cut. It was dry and hard. I recommend you make arrangements for an eggs and omelette bar. 2. The young lady was extremely selfish with her beef cut. Even after I asked her for another piece she gave me a 1/8 inch cut the size of a coffee cup opening. Clearly we expect more than what she was told to serve. I gave up and moved to the other server. I was disappointed with the food considering the price paid. My service was excellent.
El Chorro is one of Phoenix's local dining treasures and is worth visiting time and again. So why my relatively low rating? This rating is based on an Easter Sunday Brunch, at which the food was very good but not spectacular, nor were the choices vast, as they are at a close by neighbor. Nonetheless, the offerings were well done, with a few not-so-usual dishes, e.g. green chile enchiladas and an exceptional beet and goat cheese salad. But basically I do not believe a restaurant, as a restaurant, should be judged on the basis of a major holiday brunch. On the other hand, El Chorro does offer a truly spectacular desert setting, a well-trained, polite staff and thoroughly pleasant ambiance.
Great atmosphere, fantastic views, excellent service but the food was standard buffet quality. Was hoping for a little more from El Chorro.
As Always, Excellent!
El Chorro is a favorite spot of ours, and we eat there frequently as a couple, and also with friends and clients. The cocktails are innovative and delish, and the wine list always has something for everyone. Don't leave without dessert!!
A 1937 classic restuarant in Scottsdale
Terrific outdoor venue with wide menu great service and value.
The stars are coming off.
I always recommended this restaurant in the past but I'm going to have to change my recommendations as a result of my most recent dining experience. The ambience is wonderful, the service was good, I just cannot give the food a rating above 3 stars. I do not feel my meal was as delicious as the prices indicated it would be. Our server was attentive and it was not his fault that we experienced a gap between our salads and entres because there were large groups there at the same time. I give one of my past fav restaurants a 3.5. :-(
Quintessential Scottsdale Evening
The view never disappointments; the ambiance of the south patio is delightful. The sole almondine was delicious; the beef Strogonoff got mixed reviews. Nice wine selection. The sticky buns are a throw back to the past which we enjoy at the end rather than the beginning of the meal. They don't complement a nice glass of wine or martini but make a delicious sweet at the end.

Dined outdoors on the patio. Heaters everywhere. Food, drink, service were great. We hit El Chorro whenever in town!
Historic and Beautiful
A great place to wow your out of town guests. Wander around and enjoy original western artwork, including photography by Barry Goldwater. The founding members of Cowboy Artists of America used to bend their elbows in the original bar. Delicious food and famous, complimentary, sticky buns. Gracious staff will answer all your questions about this historic Arizona landmark . . . with a smile. Enjoy!
