Food was good but it took 50 mins for the food to come out and part of the side dish was cold. Obviously someone it was done in stages and someone was not communicating with the chief.
A little too loud
We had a 8:00. Reservation and were seated promptly. We were are party of six at a round table. There was a piano player at the front of the restaurant, and we were in the middle. We could not hear him or anyone at our table except the person right next to us. Dinner was very good, but not enough if you picked the Mahi special. It was two small pieces about 3 in. X 2in. Also, being a chocolate lover, there was nothing on the dessert menu for me. I would not recommend going there on a busy night, but will return again.
The ambience is very romantic. The quality of the food is just average. Ordered two appertizers, two meals and one dessert --- the calamari was excellent but the rest was just okay. As a local, I would rather go to another fine dining restaurant in the area. There are much better Capy May restaurants in the same price range. I hope the Cape Resorts corporation puts more effort in improving the food since the place could be a gold mine. It is a lovely environment to eat in but the food needs to be better.
A Special Evening
My wife and I went to the Ebbitt Room to celebrate the anniversary of the day we met. We were seated promptly and our waiter was at our table quickly. The food and the service were excellent. The atmosphere was romantic and quiet even though the bar area was crowded. It was Jazz Weekend in Cape May which added to our night since a very talented woman was singing with a string duo. We will definitely return and recommend the Ebbitt Room highly.
My husband and I vacation in Cape May quite frequently and always hear how nice the Ebbitt Room is. It was recently our anniversary and his birthday so we decided to make a reservation. It was our first time even inside the Virginia Hotel and it was so beautiful and cozy. The atmosphere alone is worth it! We were seated promptly and had a really sweet server. The menu is kind of small but they are farm to table focused which is nice- everything is seasonal and fresh. The steak & cake entree was delicious and the filet was cooked to perfection! We will definitely be back in the summertime to sit on the porch and enjoy the atmosphere!

This is our favorite restaurant in Cape May. We look forward to this night on every trip. The food is always amazing, the service is top notch and the piano player and the atmosphere at the bar always makes it difficult to leave! This particular evening was spent celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversary which they acknowledged upon our entering and then served us complimentary champagne after dinner. The Ebbitt Room is one of our favorites and never disappoints.
This was not what we expected at one of Cape May's premier dining locations. The food was very good, the service was very good, the prices were moderately high and it was almost impossible to hold a conversation. The bar and piano lounge are in the same room as the rather small dining room. We immediately asked to be moved to try to get farther away from the bar and happy, loud patrons, but two tables away wasn't enough. For all the good things I might have remembered about the Ebbitt Room, what will come to mind first is that it's a LOUD place for dinner. Maybe it was just the Saturday night we were there. If you're with people you want to talk with over dinner, try to be seated as far from the bar as possible. We dine in Cape May 6-8 times a year, but it's unlikely we'll be returning here.

We tried a menu item of scallops and the special hanger steak. The hanger steak was served with smashed roasted fingerling potatoes and scallop sausage. I can't remember the last time I had a steak this flavorful and tender. The scallop sausage was poached with an incredible delicate finish. Kudos!
Best dinner ever. We were celebrating my Husband's birthday. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly. We first sat at the bar and talked to the bartender and had a drink. He was very friendly and had great suggestions for dinner. The staff was very attentive. This was definitely the best dinner ever. I hope we get a chance to return.
Thirty-ninth First Date
Our first date was April Fools Day 1978. For the first fifteen years we were together, we went to the same restaurant. When that place closed we started going to various nice places. This year was our 39th "first date" and we went to the Ebbitt Room because our previous five visits were so good. This time was no exception. We were early and were given the option of being seated or having a drink so we headed to the bar. We ended up having a cocktail with a couple who were just having a drink in the bar area. It was so nice we were still there forty minutes after our reservation time, and were never rushed. As soon as we were ready we were seated and had a fabulous dinner, from the appetizers to the wine, to the service, and a reasonable price for such an elegant setting. The noise level was a tad high, but certainly manageable and didn't detract from the romantic aspect of the occasion. And when we were ready to go, the valet had already parked our car right in front so there was no waiting. It is so nice to enjoy a touch of class.

We had a wonderful time from the moment we entered. Service was excellent as well as the food and drinks. Eclectic choices and super fresh dishes. The ambiance had a southern charm feel. They were very accommodating and friendly with our young children. Would highly recommend!

Took my husband to The Ebbitt Room for his birthday and could not have picked a better place. The room is lovely, the waiter was excellent and the food was outstanding! One of the best meals we have ever had!
If the food was better...
The food is ok...not great. We've eaten here twice, and both times were not the thrilled with the cuisine. The abviance is very romantic and they have a great little sitting area to grab a cocktail. If the food improved I would give it an A+ but instead give it a B-.

Everything was perfect. Awesome anniversary dinner, they surprised us with champagne! Favorite place in Cape May! Never disappoints and the ambience can't be beat.
the flank steak
ordered what the menu said would be Flank Steak. That is usually thinly sliced when served. What I got was a thick piece of meat, not sliced and very tough. could barely cut it..Did not send it back just didn't eat it. Was disappointed as I have had Flank Steak many places. Service was good and the place was nice..Nice piano music.

If Ebbitt Room is going to be open during the winter, they need to invest in a better heating system. It was very cold in all parts of the restaurant. To their credit, it was one of the coldest nights of the year. Outside of this, we had a very nice dinner and our waitress (Sylvia) was outstanding.
Good for Valentines Day
The special Valentines Day menu was good, but not quite as good as normal. Service was "leisurely" but good.
Excellent food and service. Valet parking a plus. Cape May is a treasure. A perfect destination.
Ask to be seated in the back room is romance is on the menu! Oysters were heavenly....biggest tastiest scallops I have ever had. Thought rib eye could have been more traditional, wasn't as tender as it should have been. Looked like a filet. Wine was outstanding. Candle light and quiet with excellent service made it a great night. Enjoyed A drink at the bar too. Ask for Vince, he was professional and attentive... We will be back

The service was amazing, the waiter was knowledgeable about the menu items and could explain to us how everything was plated and prepared. That steak and cake was the best steak I've had and the truffle mac and cheese was to die for.
Overall a great night was had
We love dining here and always enjoy ourselves. This time I had the scallops and my husband had the chicken. We started with the rabbit and deviled eggs. Everything was good, but there was something missing from making it great. As always the ambiance and the service are second to none. The bartender Helen is great and makes delicious drinks.
Service was excellent, food was questionable
Do not order the Steak and Cake, I love crab cakes and that thing on the plate was probably the worst crab cake I have ever had in 30 years of dining out. Tasteless, tiny and dry. My date enjoyed the lamb chop. Think I was overcharged for wine by the glass as well at like $15 a pop. We both enjoyed the bar and the very nice bartender. We come here several times a year.
Great food and warm cozy ambiance. Service skilled without being too intrusive
classic dining spot
We went to Cape May Jan.8th for my husbands birthday weekend. Love it when it's quiet and not overrun with tourists. Having gone there many times before, we tried one new restaurant and revisited the Ebbitt Room. We had an 8:00 reservation and were seated promptly. The tables are very close together, and unfortunately the setting did not lend itself to a romantic dinner. It was very crowded- surprising even to them (as our server mentioned) for this time of year. It was extremely loud- the wood walls and floor are beautiful, but do little to absorb the sound. Although our table was tiny, it was difficult to carry on a conversation. Ironically, we could hear virtually every word a gentleman was saying who was seated 2 tables away! On a positive note, the food was delicious and our server- Jason- did a great job. Price wise, consider this for a special occassion! Maybe in the summer we will sit on the porch!

This was our fourth visit to the hotel. We like the fact that there is a restaurant in the hotel especially since we come in the wither months. The food this time was only average. The salad with the squash was really not good and one of our guest got burnt broccoli. The prices seemed high for the quality of the food. Bar is very nice and the bartender was very pleasant.

This was our third visit to Ebbitt Room will most likely be our last. We had a reservation for 8:15 pm they were running 1/2 hour behind. Poor. communication hostess said well we are busy. Not a response that you should give to a guess who spend 50 at the bar and followed by a diner bill for 200. The work staff needs some Coaching on edict and class. Food quality was Not up to par for the Enbitt Room service was again young lack of experience. Must have been holiday help. Not worth the value.
Amazing as always. Service, atmosphere & food.
Wonderful food, cocktails & service. One of our favorite restaurants in Cape May. Or fostered the ricotta donuts with coffee. Coffee came but no donuts. When the waiter finally discovered this he brought them immediately but didn't charge us! We had no complaint that they didn't come. Just a great place to dine if you love food.

New Year's Eve Elegance
After not dining at the Ebbitt Room for a few years due to good, but not excellent food and service, we decided to give it another try. The new bar area is a bit noisy but once seated it was not an issue. All four of us had the wine pairing with our meal which allowed us to sample new and different wines with each course. The food and service was excellent and probably the best meal we have had in Cape May in a number of years. The pork bellies and scallops were particularly good. Our server explained each of the wine choices with each course and helped to make our New Year's dinner pleasant and fund.
Nice, but value wasn't there.
Went for NYE dinner, booked online was not told about prefix menu. The first course we took the salad option, but proportions were all over the place comparing to other groups.Second course was small and not really worth it unless you took the Oyster option. The dinner we took the steak, was a great portion and was good. The dessert was a sampler and wasn't really anything great and was sort of a joke.Being NYE, I understand the $100 price tag per person, but was not told initially about the prefixed menu, and the value in food proportions or options were not there. The tasting of our options were good but certainly not on the same level as an higher end restaurant where I would have expected a higher priced meal.
We go to the Ebbitt Room every visit to Cape May and we always have a fantastic experience. This was our first time at the Holidays and the decorations were spectacular with a touch of whimsy. The oysters were the best we had in Cape May, and we had Cape May salts in 3 other establishments. The poached monkfish was delicate and perfectly cooked and the chicken was moist and flavorful. Service is always impeccable especially the cocktail waitress, she was really attentive and quickly cleaned up when other diners left with a smile. Thanks for the holiday treat!
A meal to remember...
Having dined in many fine Cape May restaurants over the years, this has to be the best meal yet, which is a real feat in that gourmet group! All of the presentations were done exquisitely too. Festive decorations for the Christmas season made it even more special as well...
I have eaten here several times.....NEVER disappointed!! Alway delicious....

Beautifully decorated for Christmas as always. Chef Matt and crew did a great job, well executed menu. April did a phenomenal job being our server for the evening. Highly recommended!!
My wife and I dined at the Ebbitt Room for our 8th wedding anniversary and we enjoyed every moment! The staff was extremely friendly and our server was exceptional. The food was creative, fresh and finished to perfection. My wife and I enjoyed our meal so much, we have already tried to recreate several of the dishes. The atmosphere, staff and food all combined to make for quite a memorable evening.
loved the private dining room in the back
We had an amazing dinner the weekend before Christmas. The food and cocktails were top notch but the best part was hosting my mother and her guests and our family with teen-aged children in the private dining room in the back. We loved the special treatment and are looking forward to returning in the future.
Not knowing where I wanted to go for a date night, I scrolled through some cape may restaurants specifically in hotels, the Victorian hotels add to the romantic ambiance. The ebbit room's menu sold me on my decision. Huge selection of cocktails and wines which was good for my date, and organic farm to table menu was great for myself. Though slightly expensive, the quality of the food makes up for it. Wait staff was attentive and always followed up.
Ebbitt Room -- Neverending Charm
Excellent food + excellent service + elegant atmosphere = Ebbitt Room
