Da Silvano Ratings and Reviews
Good but wasn't wowed.
Service was just okay... first course took FOREVER to come out. Thought we had been forgotten.
LOVE THIS VILLAGE GEM!
GREAT FOOD AND SERVICE! SILVANO IS A STAPLE AND VERY ENTERTAINING. SO MANY GOOD OPTIONS!
Excellent is an understatement!
This was my first time eating at Da Silvano and I must say I was very impressed. I came with a friend for dinner. The food was amazing along with the service and entire ambience. I will definitely recommend to family members, friends and colleagues. I look forward to coming back and trying brunch.

Good Solid Southern Italian
We were very pleased with the price to quality & quantity of food. Very busy place, expect to speak up for Service. More than a few additions and specials; worthwhile even at the price. If you are a fussy foodie, try somewhere else.
Excellent food. Mediocre service
We had dinner on 2/13. Although the food was good the service was mediocre. We had to ask our server multiple times for bread. Although my friends were still having dessert and I had a glass of wine. A server asked us to leave that we were holding up the table. Which was very rude.

I recently, accidentally made a reservation on Open Table, however, it was for the wrong night. I called the restaurant, Da Silvano in NYC, immediately to apologize and cancel the reservation. And ohh did I get an ear full! Not only was I yelled at over the phone and was told I was "bologna." They then proceeded to call me back and leave a very nasty voicemail saying this is not Cirque du Solei and so on. I used to be a patron of the restaurant but will now never go again if this is the way I am going to be treated!
Italian Food as Good as in Italy
There are literally hundreds of "Italian" restaurants in NYC but few of them offer anything like good authentic Italian food. The food at da Silvano's is the real thing! Chef and owner Silvano Marchetto still operates the same restaurant he opened more than 30 years ago and serves the very best ingredients made as only a fine restaurant in Italy does. The first time we visited here was shortly after 9/11, when we had read that Silvano was offering free meals to the police and firemen dealing with that horrible event. We decided to support him by visiting and we were more than amply rewarded. It was like we were transported to Tuscany - the wild boar ragu on the al dente pasta was perfect and as authentic as any restaurant in Tuscany could serve. Everything from the peppery olive oil, the fresh baked focaccia, the parmesan cheese , bistecca alla fiorentina and the dolci were perfect. Ditto for the meal we just had there. How many restaurants in NYC can keep up such a high quality level over a 30+ year time span? Do yourself a favor and visit! You won't regret it.
We make this a go to place for a special dinner. We come to NYC to visit a couple times a year and love Da Silvano! Amazing food and terrific service.
Service is the worst
Heads up- Management is very unaccommodating . We also had an opentable gift card that they argued with us for 45 mins they wouldn't take. Food was average. Service really disappointed.
Always a Gem
Always a great meal with great service in a nice local restaurant. We will return!
we love it, and it really does have astonishing food.... of course it is very very $$$$ BUT it is worth it...

Got a last min rez here for a Friday night. Was expecting good and instead got GREAT - absolutely delicious. The pasta with sausage, peas and tomato cream sauce was out of this world.
We have been coming to da silvano occasionally for 20 years and had dinner recently that was awful I mean dog food awful. The decor is garish, the techno music was out of place and loud, the crowd straight New Jersey, the wine list the most laughably overpriced I have ever seen 6x retail, and worst of all the food was truly awful and the kick in the teeth is that it is way expensive. This place used to be overpriced good Italian where you would go sit outside and be surrounded by interesting people now it is just overpriced garbage. I don't usually write negative reviews but this was such a horrible all around experience.

First time to this restaurant and tourists to NYC. On watching throughout the night the staff seem to sit visitors in entrance area not through the main area and from the moment you sit down although in s friendly way, try to get you to take appetisers to share, sell you specials, bottled water without the option of tap etc etc. Overall the staff and good were very good but s bit pricey especially if you fall for the tricks. 20% gratuity automatically added.

Former New York resident friends in Houston recommended this place while we were in town. LOVED IT!!! Great food and atmosphere...going back next week.
Overhyped and average
I had a disappointing experience at Da Silvano's. I hadn't been in a while and don't remember the place being so loud and unfriendly. When my friend and I arrived for our reservation and tried to register with the host, there was no obvious person greeting and checking people in. Then a couple of staff members told me that I should go outside the restaurant and wait there without giving me any information on when we'd get seated, even though it was time for our reservation. It was a cold evening out so I didn't appreciate being chased out of the restaurant to wait outside. When we finally got seated, the staff rushed through our order, rushed through collecting our dishes before we were finished...In addition, the restaurant was extremely loud. It was very hard to hear one another. The food was quite average which surprised me as I remember DaSilvano's being an excellent Italian restaurant in years past.

The food was really low-average. Rice overcooked. Fried zucchini flowers ridicolous. In price and quantity. Ravioli? Surely not home made. So sorry but really to much expensive. Never again.
Silvano is Numbah 1
Anything, and I mean anything that comes out of his kitchen - from the sides to the steaks to fish or pasta is always fantastic. I'd eat here every night if I could. I absolutely love this place. Service is always on game and if you have an issue - they do the right thing.

Awesome, fantastic, excellent. This is not a paid review. We were in town for the weekend. Made a reservation via open table, and were treated to fantastic food and even better service. It was the restaurant we compared the rest on our trip on.
I could repeat
I'm Italian and very exigent and even if people say you shouldn't eat Italian out of Italy I don't mind trying... I wasn't deceived at all. I must admit I had one of the best "ossobuco con risotto" here. I could go back and try other dishes.

Fantastic experience - Mr. Silvano and the staff are exemplary.
Best pasta dish EVER
you MUST order the rigatoni w double smoked bacon, parsley, garlic, oil. light tomatoe sauce and light cream sauce $18.50 only-can't wait to eat that again- BTW, my first time back in 36 years- won't wait that long again
Good service. Unimpressive food.
Good service. Unimpressive food.
good but ungodly expensive
The food at Da Silvano is good, and the service was friendly and attentive, having said that , to pay over 300 dollars including tip, for 3 glasses of wine, 3 entrees 2 desserts and 2 appetizers, shared, none of which that would have cost, combined 30 bucks if made at home, is literally outrageously expensive. I know it is NYC, I know we were served at a table and all, but I have had better food in Rome for 1/3 of the price. New Yorkers are way too willing to spend beaucoup money for restaurant food.
Not quite what it used to be...
We had not been to Da Silvano in a very long time, so we were very eager to try it again. While I would probably recommend it, it would not be with the same enthusiasm as in the past. It seems to have lost something over the years. The service was very good but the food was somewhat mediocre. Our pasta appetizers were satisfactory enough, but the main courses were a different story. I ordered grilled lobster which was good, but my companion ordered the roast duck and it was practically burnt and fairly tasteless. I will say that dessert was lovely, but overall the meal was hit & miss. I feel like the restaurant is resting on it's past reputation and that is always a shame when that happens to what was once a top choice for us.
Big Mistake All Around
The food was poor. We began with panzanella. The bread was soggy, as were the greens. It must have been sitting for at least an hour. Calves brains were meager and swimming in acidic caper sauce which obscured their taste totally. Service was confused, friendly, but erratic. Water was offered as "still or sparkling" and I mistook "still" for "tap", $9.50 mistake. It is a very popular place, but I regret wasting an evening, a meal and too much money.
Best Food in the City of New York
Da Silvano never disappoints, I've been there several times and I've only had amazing experiences, there food is delectable and you never want to leave, of course it's an Italian restaurant and you'll want to get pasta, but try their arrangement of meats and their amazing fish. They cater to your every need at Da Silvano, there is no reason to try any other Italian restaurant in the city if you go to Da Silvano first! It's affordable, tasty and the atmosphere is one never to forget

Great service Nice people Beatific spot
My wife and I have eaten occasionally at da Silvano since the 80's. For most of those years, it was a great pleasure but lately we have been disappointed. It seems to be turning into something like a scene from a Fellini movie. On two occasions at least two different waiters asked for drink orders - who's IS our waitert?!?! Servers never know who gets what when the food arrives. On one occasion, a member of our party got the wrong dish entirely. Staff tends to stand around outside tables having loud conversations. It's slipping big time.
My husband and I had a delicious meal. I felt like pasta with seafood and the chef prepared a special dish with clams, mussels, shrimp and calamari in a lite tomato sauce. The noise level was quite loud, because large groups are accommodated inside the restaurant. We usually sit outdoors because we enjoy people watching. This is a fun place to enjoy fine Italian cuisine.
Longtime favorite for a reason - it's great menu is simple but complex at the same time Service is excellent - pricing is reasonable for the dining experience
Great Italian Food!
If you want an authentic Italian experience this place is great! The service is excellent, the food superb and the atmosphere is fun and exciting (I got a kick out of the Ferrari parked out front). The waitstaff is very accommodating and made great recommendations. Everything on the menu looked delicious so it was hard to decide but we finally settled on the calamari to start, Tagliatelle Alla Bolognese pasta and the Branzino for main course. Everything was masterfully cooked to perfection and came out in a timely fashion. Da Silvano will definitely be in the regular rotation of restaurants we frequent.
Three times in one week!
This is a great Business meeting - group outing - special occasion - intimate dinner - celebrity watching - patio drinking spot! I have been here on most of these occasions and the location and patio and especially the cuisine, is stellar and notable! A must! Go there!
Still Good After All These Years
I hadn't been to Da Silvano in since the mid 1970s when it first opened. My memory then was of a good high quality meal. I am pleased to report that the 40 some odd years since then the restaurant has only gotten better. a standout was the potato gnocchi with truffles which was amazing. Lots of truffles in a cream sauce.
This restaurant was amazing, the food was sheer perfection. The staff was so warm & friendly and so attentive. I cannot wait to go back.
This Place Is The Best
Da Silvano is the Gold Standard in Italian in NYC. The guy knows what he's doing and does it incredibly. Pasta, Fish, Meat all terrific. Portions are perfect - while the price is moderate, the wine selection is one of the most intelligent I have seen. You get what you pay for here - an amazing time.
