About Crux Cafe
Chef Stewart’s passion for cuisine was developed in his early days in South Philadelphia. He apprenticed at La Campagna in Cherry Hill where he eventually worked as a line cook, sous chef and finally Executive Chef. During his 16 years, Chef Stewart was awarded the “Wish Dish of the Year” five times, from the Make-A-Wish Foundation. He also displayed his talent in many private events, including a private dinner for the renowned Chef Paul Prudhomme of New Orleans.
Chef Stewart’s philosophy embraces the principle that “cuisine should be simple, using only fresh ingredients, so you can let the freshness of the ingredients speak for themselves.” Embarking on a lifelong desire to own and operate his own restaurant, Chef Stewart has created Crux Café, a cozy BYOB set in Audubon, NJ.
The word Crux has the meaning of essence or most important part of something. In this case, it is the start of a café with great food and hospitality for all his guests.

Always a fantastic meal with a lovely staff, food is always fresh and fabulous and changing with the seasons
Maybe it was an off night
It is a beautifully decorated place. I heard this was a great place, so we went. Extremely disappointed in every way, except the decor.

A nice place for dinner
We went early on a Saturday night and it was quiet. The french onion soup (with actual gruyere cheese) and mussels appetizer were very good. Our strip steaks were properly cooked and delicious. Everyone enjoyed the glazed carrots and the potatoes. The butter, oil, and roasted garlic that accompany the bread were also tasty. The chocolate cake was good. Both the chocolate and cheesecake sections of the tuxedo cake were dry. Overall, we had a pleasant dinner and will be back.

We love it here. We started with the Flatbread and the Lamb was delicious! I got the Salmon and my boyfriend got the duck and loved it. This was the first time we ordered all of these items and they were great. We went outside of our comfort zone and we were happy we did!
From our greeting from Sarah to the closing of the bill it was another lovely visit to your little gem in Audubon. We had a guest who had visited for lunch previously and she also was very, very pleased.
Kathy was a Wonderful Server :)
Kathy was a Wonderful Server :)
My wife and I decided to go to the Crux Cafe for a belated birthday celebration. The service was prompt and very friendly. The food was delicious. The flavors and textures were unexpected and were perfect with our bottle of red wine that we had brought with us. I highly recommend the Crux Cafe for all your special occasions or for just a great meal set in a small pike town neighborhood.
Second visit after first "okay" visit.
Good service. Food luke warm. Not many choices. Couldn't cut the english muffin with steak knife! Desserts looked like Dunkin' Donuts and store-bought cakes. Experience was not good and will not return. Do not recommend. Sorry to say, the service was pleasant but lacking somehow.

I always love it here!! I've had my bridal shower and rehearsal dinner here and I am never disappointed! The staff is so kind and friendly. The food is amazing! The Valentine's menu was so good(crab cakes were amazing) they had live music as well, which was great :)
We really enjoyed dinner. Our waitress was great.
My nephew and his wife gave us the gift certificate. We really enjoyed our meal and will be back.
wonderful as always
This time we went with a small group of 6. Everything was wonderful. Our friend said it was the best steak he ever had. We had the lobster ravioli and we loved it.
crux cafe, very nice dining experience
Crux cafe, Was a very nice find. Wedge salad was very good, nice touch with a deviled egg. Entrees were very good, pecan crusted salmon delish. Coffee service was an extra treat. Chefs service ground nutmeg, chocolate chips, whipped cream, and more. Highly recommended. And its a byob
Food was great as well as the service!
We highly recommend this gem! Stop in and you won't be disappointed.
Kathy was attentive to our needs as our waitress
The chef was flexible with his menu. He did substitute chicken for the veal saltimbocca. Very inventive with vegetables/ Salmon cooked to perfection and the lobster ravioli was a with the added shrimp
Amazing NYE dinner!
It was our first visit here. We were able to get a table for NYE and we were not disappointed! It was a 3 course dinner that was delicious. Our server was very sweet and attentive. We will definitely go back.
As usual, the dinner was delicious! This has to be my favorite place to eat!
Once again, outstanding. An amazing holiday feast.
New Years Eve dinner. Higher than normal prices, but the Chef and the Staff rose with the expectations. Fantastic fare. Lobster Bisque 1st course. Lobster tail & melt in your mouth filet mignon was perfection. A desert tray made made a fantastic ending to the evening. Great Job, Crux Cafe'
I have been here before for dinner with a group and was impressed with the food and service. Wanting a place to meet for a late lunch on NYE, I couldn't have made a better decision! The food was good, the service outstanding! Wishing them more success in 2016!
A must visit in South Jersey
This is, item for item, the best food we have found in the area. Menu is not extensive but wide enough to satisfy any taste. The appetizers are all made with an extra flair. Must try the mussels in cream sauce with duck fat truffled fries. Speaking of duck, the half crispy duck is done perfectly. Steak, short rib, monk fish, lobster ravioli and much more. Tough to chose a favorite. If it's only lunch, the Burger is one of the best anywhere and Sunday brunch is a special event. Very reasonable prices especially since it's a BYOB.
We have been ar Crux before. Decided to try out Throw Bacc Thursday. Excellent selection of comfort food. We both enjoyed the beef stroganoff. Excellent. Accompanied by very good wedding soup or Ceasar salad. We will be back to try the chicken pot pie.
We went for the Throwback Thursday $19. Although there were no vegetarian options, the owner was more than willing to add a vegetarian dish, with advance warning.

I dined at Crux with 5 of my friends on Wed. 11/11. The food and service were excellent from beginning to end. Our appetizers were delicious, from the flat bread, calamari and , the Surf and Turf to dessert, everything was excellent. I strongly recommend you get out there and try it, you won't be disappointed!
We eaten at Crux Cafe many times for lunch, dinner
We refer our friends. We think the restaurant is outstanding.

Fabulous as always
We went for my son's birthday. Chef Joe special ordered bone-in filets and a porterhouse steak for us. He prepared them wonderfully along with a variety of steak house side dishes. Everything was out of this world. Especially the caramelized onions and mushrooms. There was so much attention to detail including wishing my son "Happy Birthday" from all of the staff members. My favorite restaurant!

Fantastic food, exceptional service that felt like we were having dinner at a close friends home. Chef Joe Stewart and the Crux Cafe are a true diamond in the rough in South Jersey. Don't miss this one!
The food was good, but not great. Service friendly and prompt with the "family" feel. But at the end of the meal, it just did not feel like good value for money.
A Refreshing Twist
Chef has nice twist on food that makes it stand out from other restaurants
Had a lovely brunch here. Never felt rushed. Food was tasty and everyone was pleased with their choices. Service was attentive.

We planned this visit to experience Restaurant Week at Crux.... They did not disappoint... All 4 courses were amazing... I never had Monkfish, but enjoyed it. The mussels Appetizer was accompanied by Seasoned French Fries with Truffle Mayo, that was outstanding and unique.... Love the Crux
Great Dining Experience
First, our server Lauren was excellent. The food was expertly arranged and seasoned, I reccomend the Summer Salad. The setting is intimate and great for conversation with your party. The menu is a little limited but the meals are delicious.
Great little neighborhood find!
We were pleasantly surprised at the variety of choices on the menu. A little disappointed that they didn't have any oysters, but were thrilled with the appetizer special of Lobster Risotto.
We went to Crux to try the Surf & Turf Wednesday Special..... The best value I've enjoyed in a long time.... Filet cooked perfectly, a whole lobster, perfectly prepared and served, and with mashed and asparagus....all for a great price.... In the cutest BYOB around..... Thanks, Chef Joe
Best Brunch! Modern Decor!
Enjoyed the omelets, especially the seafood one. Service was very nice and I like the elegant surroundings. Definitely will be eating here, again.
Make it a point to dine at Crux Cafe!
We celebrated our 22nd anniversary at Crux Cafe and could not have been more pleased with our whole experience. From the moment we walked in, we felt welcomed and relaxed. Our server was lovely, funny, and attentive. The clams casino appetizer was terrific, as was the calamari dish. No heavily breaded calamari! The entree selections made a final decision difficult because they were all enticing. The beef short ribs and duck entrees did not disappoint! We would go back to Crux Cafe in a heartbeat. (If you go, don't forget that it is BYOB.)
My family of four each chose the Surf & Turf Wednesday special which did not disappoint. The filets were grilled to our liking, and the lobster was served to be eaten easily. Our appetizers were excellent...one French onion soup, Eggplant Involtini ("You wouldn't even know it was eggplant") and Crispy Fried Calamari. Service was pleasant and attentive. As always, Chef Stewart checked on us to be sure we were pleased with our selections.
